Safari ios8

Since I upgraded to ios8 I can no longer close out of my initial website.  There used to be an x to click on the top of page.  Even if I close out the app the page remains next time I open Safari.  Is there another way?

Yes. Tap the icon at the bottom right of the screen (looks like 2 overlapping pages). If the icons at the bottom of the screen aren't visible, scroll the screen so you are at the top of the web page.  Then click the x at the top left of the page you want to close.

Click at the top of the browser where it looks like an open book that should do it.

  • Dragging bug on safari ios8

Actually I can drag all other text based application like ever-notes.
    Only safari dosen't work properly.
I couldn't drag at the desired location and even if it is dragged, I can't remove dragging line by simply touching the non-dragged area.
This problem has been a while(I think it started after ios8) and I don't know how to fix it.

this makes sense except that the problem is not limited to safari folks - i am using lion, but in all browsers (safari, chrome, firefox) the behaviour is the same.
granted that if there's a bug in lion apple need to fix it, but given that other scrolling sites are still working fine here there must be something in the way muse is coding these scrolling links, too, no? would be great if both ends could be looked at.
some of the scrolling links on some sites are no longer working AT ALL in safari though, which is even more worrying as it means content isn't even being accessed in an inelegant way.

  • Safari iOS8: Disable display of optional app?

Is there any way to disable the display of optional apps at the top of the page in iOS8 Safari searches? For example, if you do a search and you open a link to Yelp!, the browser will display the App at the top of the page.  As far as I can tell there is no option to turn this off. If that's the case, looking for recommendations of other browsers with this feature.  Also looking for a browser that will masquerade as a Mac/PC browser so websites don't automatically present their dumbed-down mobile website.

    Thanks Faust.
Duly moved. I hadn't realised that the application side of XE was treated as a separate product on the forums.

  • Disappearing nav buttons in Safari iOS8 - are you kidding?

How much screen space does this really save? A few millimeters by my measurement! Not worth having to do an extra tap just to get the buttons to reappear (I'm referring to the forward/back buttons on top in Safari). This is so unnecessary and stupid.

    this is what i'm getting:
Tried refreshing and cleared out browsing cache. Not a huge deal I can just use another browser but still it's weird.

  • App store opening from safari ios8

I'm browsing on Safari on iPad Air iOS 8. When going to various websites such as ABC news, Bizpacreview, Reuters etc the app store will spontaniously open and try to get me to download a game. How do I disable the app store from opening except when I explicitly open it

I know it isn't apple doing the hijacking. But it is Apples products that are being hijacked. Since usability and customer experience translate into more purchases and loyalty Apple has a vested interest in helping to fix this. I was hoping that there was an app store or safari setting that I could use. I think that they attempted a fix because from time to time I get a message asking if I want to open the app. Half the time it works and the other half it doesn't.
As to boycotting, one person won't have an impact. All I would be doing is denying myself the pleasure of surfing the news and commenting on articles. No profit to that if you will. Besides if the code is (as I suspect) imbedded in google adwords and other high volume banners then any site can be afflicted. Like I said I was hoping that an obscure setting would lock the appstore.
Complaining to the game site is pretty time consuming but offers a bit of personal satisfaction.
    All great feedback. Thanks guys.

Since updating my iPad 2 to ios8, it safari has been slow and crashing and some of the apps acting wierd. The password app doesn't work at all so had to find another way of retrieving all my passwords. Very very dissapointing. It appears from these forums that a lot of people are having the same problems wit this latest update.

    Hi erastyle,
Actually the Licensing information for the package is missing hence it is not launching any applications. You need to Reserialize the products using APTEE which you can find it on the Machine where you have created the package. If you dont have the access to that Machine then please download and install Creative Cloud Packager and it will download APTEE in the below mentioned location.
    Windows:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\CCP\utilities
Once downloaded please follow this KB article to use the Tool.

Please let us know if it helps.

  • When is Apple going to fix the problems with IOS8 Safari either won't work or is very slow.why can't you contact Apple themselves rather than this method?

ssince updating my IPad to IOS8 Safari does not work properly ie Marriott website it tells me no server is available yet Google works and other web search have the same problem when is Apple going to get fixes out soon I hope. Also why can't we contact Apple direct on this matter ?

Try some basic troubleshooting steps. Clear Safari, force close the app and reset the iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
In order to close apps in iOS 8, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
There re are ways to contact Apple directly. Look here for help.

  • Since IOS8 update I can no longer open .rtf files in Safari

We have a system at work where by we have a lot of emails saved in our records as .rtf files. We access these on our iPad through safari by visiting our website, on the previous IOS they could just be opened within safari and they popped up in a new tab. Since the update they do not open, instead we get an error message dying that the file cannot be opened- "unable to read document, An error occurred while reading the document.".
Is there a fix for this?

I have the same problem with Safari, it will not open any Rich Text File attachments in Gmail. I can see people thinking why is he using Gmail in safari? Two co-workers and I share a work related account and important stuff comes in by RTF file, the duty person can see it instantly there.
Anyway, I need to open RTF files using safari.  A process of elimination, I found a free App that will let you "Open in" when you get an attachment in the mail.
IT is Called RTF Write by Mach Software Design.
(Apple you guys still need to pull your finger out and sort the IOS8 Issues. The RTF problem has been reported as a "Bug")

  • I just upgraded my iPad to iOS8.  I use VPN for work, when I start Safari up with the VPN on, Safari crashes the VPN.  VPN stays up when I use Chrome or Opera, but not Safari.  I had no problem with iOS7.

I use my iPad for work when I'm out of the office.  I have to use VPN to access my company's applications and servers.  I just upgraded my iPad (an iPad Air) to iOS8 from iOS7.  Now, every time I start Safari up, it crashes VPN.  If I use either Chrome or Opera, the VPN stays up.  It also works fine with Mail, etc.  Only Safari crashes the VPN.  Anyone else experiencing this?  It always worked fine with iOS7.

More info, it's not simply when I start up Safari, it's when I open multiple tabs and go from one tab to the next in Safari.  Doing this sporadically caused the VPN to turn off.   It happens whether I'm on a work web page, or I simply open up several public sites like CNN, MSN, etc.  I've had to go to using Chrome all the time when using the VPN so that the VPN will stay up (it stayed up all day yesterday while I was on Chrome, while using work web sites, and public web sites).  I tried getting back into Safari at the end of the day, opened a couple of tabs, went back and forth to the opened tabs and VPN immediately shut off.

  • Why does autofill in safari no longer work in iOS8?

Autofill no longer functions as before now that I have upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS8. It no longer fills in my username and password automatically when I go to a website. Instead I have to put the cursor in the username space and then an autofill option pops up....choosing autofill then does put in the username and password....but this involves extra steps and more time. This is time I cannot afford. I get substitute teaching jobs texted to me and many others at the same time. Whoever logs in first and accepts the job gets the job. It has always taken seemingly microseconds before others get the job before you because they logged in faster. With extra steps now to autofill I won't get any jobs. I know this sounds strange but it is true. Am I overlooking something to get the username and password to autofill as soon as the website is chosen? Thanks.

You are correct in that iOS 8 changed how Safari Autofill enters user names and passwords on some websites. While some sites function as before, other require tapping in the text entry area, then tapping Autofill password and finally tapping Sign In. As far as I know there is no way around this. Send feedback to Apple here:

  • New Safari on IOS8 on iPad air.

Hi. I just upgraded to IOS8 on my iPad air yesterday and wish I never bothered because the new Safari is ridiculously annoying to use. The address bar disappears when u scroll down and reappears when u scroll up. This is largely pointless to begin with but its a nice extra to let you use the whole screen, that's of course if it was practical and actually made browsing better.
You have to scroll far too far up to get the address bar and tabs back again. It's just so stupid why make people do that to change a tab. Why add that extra annoyance?
Also, when u zoom out on a page you are suddenly thrown into an odd windows where you can see all your open tabs. Why? Why would anyone want this? Not knowing anything about the feature I have closed tabs by simply not knowing what's happening.
This isn't related but I've been literally tortured with safari on ipad with tabs constantly refreshing which everyone has heard of and agree that it's very annoying. This just makes using safari a real chore.
If i was in charge of this and could sack people behind this I would sack them all. I love Apple software because it's so easy to use but no one seems to support that approach at apple any more.
Anyway im off to check safaris settings to see if I can disable these annoyances and get back to the easy to use safari. I cant check now because if I leave this page for a short while the oage will refresh and I'll have to type this all again lol. Dear goodness what is happening!
    Rant over.

great solution skydiver--to say go find another browser. Hate to be mean about it, not your fault.
but apple screwed up on this one. acting more and more like MS and for example MS office which expands to do so much that only power users appreciate it.
I have had apples since 1982 and the 2e and this update pushed me over the edge.
I hate the keyboard and the new icon figure at the bottom, which if you have been typing for decades its easy to touch/swipe and change the keyboard.
do not like the pull down for books marks changing back to left side and function pull down swithching back to right side not that I am comfortable with the reverse change of 2 years ago.
and do not like the idea of the bookmark pulldown staying there and making screen smaller so an extra tap is required to close teh pull down. Whose idea was that?
as long as I am here, the new iphone--actually some people like a smartphone with the smaller screen that gives functionality in  small package that could easily fit in a shirt pocket or slacks. ANot everybody is searching for a one unit solution to everything. any larger and we need bigger restaurant tables to hold 4-6 computers.
done with my rant too--it appears many others wil wake up today and upgrade and be surprised.

  • Video behind http authentication does not play in Safari on iOS8.

Videos (quicktime and probably others) that are sitting behind http authenticated sites do not play properly in IOS8. This is true even with the new 8.0.2. When clicking on the mov file, Safari starts the integrated player (the player with the play button), but nothing plays and you can't press the play button.
Since I have access to the Apache web server that serves up the video, I can see what's happening on the backend. I see that Safari or the iOS video player Safari starts up fails to pass the authentication credentials to the server. I see a bunch of http 401 error messages (failed authentication) in the logs. When moving the same video to a not authenticated site, iOS8 does the right thing.
iOS7 (and before) and Safari on OSX does the right thing on authenticated sites. It authenticates properly with the server and plays the video.
Chrome on iOS8 also doesn't work either. Safari and Chrome use different versions of webkit, so I'm assuming its the video player that the browsers call on that's not passing the authentication off to the web server when making the http request.
Anyone else run into this problem or have a workaround? I reported this as a bug, but Apple hasn't acknowledged it yet.

I also have the same Exact Problem, only your explanition appears more technical and understandable. This problem appears more severe on YouTube.com videos and alike, however it is also severly choppy and problematic on other sites. Surprisingly Live Broadcast videos work better than not Live videos, however this is not something I'd like when my data isn't throttled yet. I crosstested it to see if there is any issues on my iPhone 4S (iOS 6, last version) and Galaxy S4 (Android Kit Kat, last version on S4) and there is no issues on those devices so it is an iOS 8(+0.1/0.2) and iOS 8.1 problem and I am 100% confident about it.
I do think it is the video player's problem with Websites and Webstreaming. There is no problems playing music videos on my device's storage. I didn't get that many error messages but it just doesn't play properly on Safari and Chrome, like what you are experiencing too. I may go ahead and report it too because it is gotten to a point where it is annoying to watch videos. It is not just an over 4G (+ or - LTE) only issue, it is also via Wifi even so it is a tad better. I can't tolerate playing a video 15 seconds in, have to wait 15 more seconds for it to play, it plays to 0:35 then I have to wait 15 more seconds. Even a 240p video, it does it so, it is clearly not a tolerable bug. I don't have a work around so far (tried everything from reset to wipe the phone and reinstall all the apps).
My Device is an iPhone 6+ with iOS 8.1 (yes, it is not just exclusive to the iPhone 5S. I assume it also effects the iPhone 6 based on technical specifications).
