Safari is INCREDIBLY slow loading my website.

So, for the last few months (since I updated to the latest version of Safari, as far as I can tell), my personal website (maxwelltielman.com) has been loading INCREDIBLY slowly in Safari. Basically, it will load the top half of the site's images, but stall about half way down, usually until the browser displays a message. This does not occur on any other browser and seems to be happening only to my own personal website. I've tried using safari on many, many other computers (my school is all mac) all with the same results. I tried removing elements of the site (tables, rows of images, etc) all to no avail. Ocassionally, I can get the site to load, but if I hit refresh or empty my cache, I get the same problems. I can not for the life of me figure out what is going on here, but it is incredibly frustrating. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The W3C site validation tool shows 90 errors and 2 warnings on your home page. Safari is somewhat less tolerant of such things than some other browsers.

  • Safari is extremely slow loading web pages, i have to latest software, no updating needed

Safari is really slow loading internet pages and uploading images. I have the latest software update. I just purchased this mac book pro within the last 3 months..just frustrating that it's already this slow so soon....Any suggestions? I called tech support and nothing they walked me through helped. He was going to reinstall everything but I wanted to wait and see if there was anything else I could possible do before considering I just got this notebook, I hate to reinstall everything. It seems like there should be a simpler solution...

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Safari is Extremely slow loading pages, like Hotmail, eBay, CNN,

For the past few days, Safari has been extremely slow loading most all pages, especially Hotmail, eBay, CNN, etc. Apple support hasn't been able to help. Hve done all the normal stuff, Reset Safari, restarted, etc.... eventually reloaded Leopard, with all updates, 10.5.2. Still slow uploading pages. Have checked network with speedtest.net, Download 5019 kb/s, Upload 363 kb/s. Was told by everyone I asked, these were good speeds, "normal." But it takes 20 seconds - 60 seconds sometime to upload a page. Have watched "activity monitor" under network, "data sent" goes out fast, data received seems to come back but then stalls. I'm not sure of what numbers I should be getting on the return. Any suggestions????

  • Slow loading on website

I am new to Quicktime Pro, but have found it very easy to use with great quality results endoding my FC files for the web. My problem is that when a user clicks to open my video sample, the file has a very slow load time. Some specifics:
input file: 1.8 GB file exported from FCE as uncompressed 8-bit
output file: in QTPro - encoded with H.264, 15 fps, 100 key frame, 800 kbps, set for streaming (fast start), 640X480, deinterlacing checked. file size 8 MB.
As I said, the quality is great (except that the deinterlacing filter doesn't seem to do anything), but the playback outpaces the load very quickly. It takes almost 2-3 minutes for the file to be ready to start automatically. I've been told that an 800 kbps file should load in a few seconds.
Is there anything you could tell me to enhance the load time? I'm wondering if I'm missing a simple step since QT has been so easy to start to use.
Thanks so much for your help!! Jo

Nothing at all wrong with your QuickTime file but your html code at http://aftglow.com/ directly links to it rather than calling the quickTime browser plug-in.
That may be the source of your troubles. You need to use special html page code for QuickTime:

  • Suddenly slow loading of websites and RBB in Safari and Chrome

I'm working with a MBPro 17" 2009, Mavericks 10.9.4 and suddenly RAM seems to be full especially when using Chrome or Safari Broswers. I know there is a problem with a sector of my hard drive, this is an old story; the slow web page loading and rotating beach ball are new. My ethernet connection is reasonably fast, 29 ms ping + 6mbps down + 2mbps up. I tested DNS with name bench and changed to the fastest servers.
Occasionally also seeing this slowness with iPhoto, or when moving photos to an email, etc.
Posted below is my EtreCheck summary and also a snapshot of a SmartUtility run tonight, which indicates the hard drive problem.
One thing I notice is that even after uninstalling Chrome (which had become practically impossible to use), I still see some references to Chrome as a user login item and internet plug-in. I don't know how to remove these, if that would help. (Uninstalling Chrome helped.)
Also attached are screenshots of Activity Monitor showing CPU usage and Memory usage.
    Thanks for any advice.

are you suggesting a used hard drive?
No; $35 is sufficient for a brand new 320 GB internal hard disk drive with a warranty. Another $19 will buy one with three times that capacity. Do not buy "used".
And do you think this is the problem I've described?
It is a problem that must be corrected before addressing anything else that could be a contributing factor. It is premature to conclude it is the only problem though.
Consider yourself fortunate in that you have been given advance warning of its impending doom, and that you already have a Time Machine backup. Hard disk drives often fail with no warning at all. They are all wear items that should be considered disposable, given their replacement cost.

  • Safari 4 incredibly slow to load

Downloaded Safari 4 this morning - it's taking over 30 seconds to load pages that used to take a few seconds. Seems stable enough, and the bells and whistles are pretty, but I'd rather trade them for the speed of v3. Anyone else?

    Claude,
You should start your own topic but in any event read this post from Klaus1.

  • Safari pause & start slow loading for live internet video & question marks

    Hello,
I like to watch this live show on marilyn.ca and if I use Safari a segment takes forever to load and when it does it stops and starts and keeps loading after a few seconds. This never happens on Firefox with the same URL.
Then I sometimes open a new page and see a question mark where there should be a photo. I have Perian installed and Flip 4 Mac. Again in Firefox I have no problems. I used to always use Firefox then switched back to Safari. Is there a way to solve these 2 problems?

    Hi,
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions.
If you have any installed, turn that off, try that site.
For photos... back to the menu bar, click Safari / Preferences then select the Appearance tab.
Make sure: *Display images when the pages loads* is selected.

  • New MacBook Pro is sometimes slow loading a website

I got a MacBook Pro for Christmas and have noticed that sometimes (not everytime) it takes forever to load a certain page. It doesn't happen to a certain website just at random times. My wifi is perfectly fine too. I use Google Chrome by the way. Please please please help me!

    I get the message:
Google Chrome could not load the webpage because google.com took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.
    Check your Internet connection.
Check any cables and reboot any routers, modems, or other network devices you may be using.
Allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings.
If it is already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server...
Check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server: Go to Applications > System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies and deselect any proxies that have been selected.

  • Safari slow loading sites j

All of a sudden Safari is very slow loading web pages. The blue bar will start and then it will freeze and stay there. If I hit stop and refresh it zips right across and loads. I have emptied the cache, reset Safari and run Disk Utility. Any suggestions?

Hi again, researching further, I found a poster who wrote:
_+If that doesn't work try changing your dns settings. I had a similar issue and after a visit to opendns.com and changing my settings, things are better than before. Plus I changed the settings on my router and which solved the problem for all my computers._+
though I did the other two things, the .com.apple file thing and the macfixit (well I tried some of those) this is what worked, going to the above mentioned webpage and following the very simple steps. I have no idea what the heck I did actually, but it worked. I also do not know why all of a sudden everything changed and I had to do this trouble shooting. Made me feel like I was back in PC Land.

  • Quicktime audio files extremely slow loading on webpage

I have loaded four audio files onto one page of my website that I created using iWeb. This page is incredibly slow loading and just won't play on many people's computers (mac and pc alike) (including mine!).
Is there something I can use for audio files besides the quicktime player? Is there a way to have the page load faster?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes. You can use a flash player like the examples on this demo page: Audio Players.
More player types and even a jutebox player is explained and demoed on Roddy's iWeb for Musicians sitge on this page:Music Players.

  • Reader Slow Loading?

    Hi,
Since getting Safari 5.0.1 with Reader, it seems Safari is much slower loading pages now.
I'm not certain that it is reader slowing page loading but going to the same sites in Firefox and other browsers the pages load much faster.
I'll open a page in Safari, say CNN, and it takes so much longer to load now and it looks like the page will not open until Reader has done it's job.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Empty your Safari cache more often. From your Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache.
Web pages include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. *These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down.* It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh.
*To delete Safari's icon using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

  • Website slow loading

So I am having a problem with one website that I frequent. It it much slower loading than other websites I visit. The progress bar seems to freeze for several seconds. Sometimes if I hit the x then the reload symbol the page loads right away. I have asked other people, it is a forum site, if they have had problems lately and nobody has experienced the slow loading problem I have. One person suggested clearing the history which I did. That didn't work so I researched the web and found a suggestion to delete the cache from the library and also clear history. I did that as well and nothing has improved. It only happens on this one site and has only started happening in the last two maybe three weeks.
Any suggestions on what else I could try? I do not want to use another browser to see if it works in another browser. It used to work fine but doesn't now. Just looking for other things I could try to resolve the issue.

Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, restart as usual and post the results.

My MacBook Pro won't load any websites on Safari (except this site, Facebook and Google). Opera and Mozilla Firefox won't load any sites whatsoever. I already did the "Reset Safari" several times, restarted the computer half a dozen times, and I can't find this alleged "caches.db" file to delete. I virus scanned the computer with Sophos, Avast, and iAntiVirus and it looks clean.

Is iAntiVirus the best virus protection to use for a MacBook?
The best anti-virus protection is your own common sense, and what you already bought and paid for with your Mac. Third party products such as "iAntiVirus" convey no additional benefit, and as you already determined are very capable of causing trouble.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

    Safari Problems
Safari - Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
