Safari is not opening certain websites

it seems ever since the latest software updates on Safari and Security preferences a couple of weeks ago I have been having problems loading websites that have loaded before with out any problem. I put in the websites and they try and load and they just hang there and I can find any reason why they dont load .They are not problems with the websites because i have another website (http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/) in which I can type in an address to check if something is wrong with there server or if its my problem.
I am not super techie but I have tried some things through forums searches such as trying Open DNS (i think thats what is is ) and doing other things that have been recommended in order to fix the problem I am having ut nothing seems to work thus far.
I was hoping someone might be able to help me fix this problem because I am going mad. These are just some of the website that were working before but not any more
http://beautifuldecay.com/
http://jakedavis.typepad.com/jakedavis/
http://www.manystuff.org/
http://www.ns.nl/
I have looked at my activity window and for the beautiful decay website out of 14 items it is able to load 13 and seems to hang or get stuck on this line
http://d1.openx.org/spcjs.php?id=14416&target=_blank
with the message 0 bytes of ? I dont know what that means in the end after a while it say 1 error that same line and a gray grayed out cancelled remark after it
for the ns.nl page i get this message
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.ns.nl/” because the network connection was reset. This problem can occur if either the server or the network connection is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.
which is strange because it would load it fine before the update
the other two website as far as the activity window is concerned show no info while they are trying to load
Any help I would greatly appreciate, also any direction given may have to be very specific since i am not used to having to fix any technical problems on my mac so am unfamiliar for the most part where any special settings and such would be that you wouldn't use on a daily basis
thanks to any one that can lend a hand

Just for clarification these are the things i have tried already
set up my computer to an open DNS system
Disk repair
Reset Safari
cleared cache
deleted this file. com.apple.safari.plist
I went into the terminal window and copy pasted a cache clearing command from one of the forums but that didn't seem to work because it gave me a message like unknown command or something like that
and i think thats about it for now. I f there is any way to fix this i would appreciate any help as i am first time user of the forum
thanks

  • Safari will not open certain websites

    Aloha,
I'm new to mac, and so far so good. The problem is that I can't get safari (or firefox) to open certain websites. The one that bugs me the most is https://www.navo.navy.mil/products/geo.htm . I use it to get weather information that is not available in more mainstream sites.
It is a military product, and what I should get is three windows/frames/boxes that
when you click one thing, it gives you options for the next box, which opens information that you want.
This site works, in pc no problem (win98, win2000, XP, running firefox, ie or opera). Is there a work around to this problem? Is there another browser that will open this site up in mac?
I've tried to find this information elsewhere to no avail. In my business it's essential information.
    Help please!
Oh, and how do I find out what version os I'm running?
    Mahalo Chris

    Hi Chris,
    Welcome to Discussions.
I'm not sure what the Navy site is supposed to look like, but it appears to load ok in both Safari 3.0.3 (public beta for OS X 10.4) and Camino 1.5.3. Here's a screenshot of what I see:
I can't seem to access any data though as each search tells me the service is temporarily unavailable (is that expected?). What do you see when you try to enter this website?
Oh, and how do I find out what version os I'm running?

  • Safari will not open certain websites (Google, etc)

Hello all. I bought a MacBook a few months back and safari worked fine for about a month. Then I noticed it wouldn't access Google and other pages (ABC.com, NIN news, etc). I've read most of the threads regarding this kind of problem, but the suggestions haven't worked. I noticed most of the threads were more than a year old, so I figured I'd ask to see if anyone is encountering this problem right now and any suggestions they may have on how to fix this issue.
    Thanks ahead of time!

    Hi Opheilia13,
Do you get any messages when you can not access these sites?
Do you use a router & is it up to date on firmware?
See if this topic helps you any. Also check that your routers firewall is configured properly,so that it is not blocking Google & the other sites you mention.
Which do work for me on same os 10.4.8 & Intel macbook pro & powerbook. It is something specific to your browser user name or system.
The other issue could be Net Barrier, do you use that Firewall? Read
    Andyball_uk's reply here
Another still could be DNS# lacking in your Dns# servers in the Networks
TCP/IP tab... Find your ISP and the DNS#.
    What have you tried?
Have you tried another user, or Test account, to see if this is an issue
specific only to your username account or system wide. If not I would try that test. Please let us know.

  • Safari won't open certain websites... why?

Safari will not open certain sites. I cannot get onto youtube, but i can get on apple site??? i want this working so i can change my homepage and never have to come back here, download firefox, because safari has given me NOTHING AT ALL, besides RUN AROUNDS AND PROBLEMS. thanks
Somebody help me before I switch to PC... seriously

I am also unable to load some websites. In my case, they are all Australian websites. These are websites that I have previously used for many years.
I have an Apple MacBook Pro and recently upgraded to Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8  and Safari 6). I contacted Apple support by phone. They responded immediately, and spent 30 minutes with me trying a number of ways to correct the problem. They finally advised that it is not an Apple problem; that I need to contact website support at each of the websites that are not loading; and that I may need a unique plugin app from each website. Unfortunately, there are a lot of websites that are not loading. Any advice?

  • Safari won't open certain websites

I am sorry if this already has a thread but I couldn't find it. My question is whether anyone can give me some advice about how to get over the problem of safari not opening certain websites. I have followed Apple's suggestion's to add "index/html" following the address but it does not work. They also suggest to contact each websites adminstrator which I don't have the time as there are a number of websites in which I have encountered this problem. Also, it seems to be a deficiency of the Safari rather than the other websites. How do I get over this obestacle? TX!

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I just experienced something very strange.
First of all, I installed Leopard 36 hours ago, and except for a small email issue, it's been great. Until this...
I was on my own website, when it suddenly said it couldn't open my page because it couldn't find the server. I checked with my host, and everything was fine. I tried going there with an old version of IE, and I got right on. Tried again with Safari, and no dice. I studied the addresses to see if anything was different, and noticed that in IE, there was no "www." in the address. So, I deleted the www from the address in Safari, and it found the website. However, all the images were X's because their address starts with a www.
This lasted about 10 minutes, and then everything was fine. During that time, other websites seemed to work fine.
My head is starting to hurt again.

  • SAFARI DOES NOT OPEN CERTAIN WEBPAGES, INSTEAD DOWNLOADS ASPX EXTENSIONFILE

Safari doesnot open certain webpages, instead it downloads a file with .ASPX extension.
I opened the Mac in safeboot and run Disk Utility and repaired Disk permissions under it. In safe boot, safari (or other) browser opens all the webpages very well, but when I open the system in normal mode, again .aspx issue appears.
I am getting so upset with the system. Can you please help me?
    Thank you in advance

We had this problem on a few websites over here and in our case the administrators of the pages had to make some changes to the pages to make them Safari compatible.
A workaround we used in the meantime was to set Acrobat to open aspx files using the finders Get Info window.
Then we set Firefox as the default browser.
Then when we clicked on ASPX links the files downloaded to the disk and when we double clicked them in Firefoxes downloads window they opened in a PDF window inside Firefox.
I hope you get what I'm talking about.
    H.

  • Safari is not opening certain web pages

Why isn't Safari opening certain web pages?

If you are using any non-Apple "anti-virus" software, uninstall it according to its instructions and do not reinstall it.
There are a variety of other potential reasons for that message. First try restarting your Mac in "Safe Mode" (see below). Attempt to load the same webpage again. If that works it will reduce the number of potential causes.
Determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • OSX 10.6.6. blocking (or at least not opening) certain websites

Why would my Mac Book Pro block only certain websites when I am at another office?

The other office network likely has a web content filter of some sort installed.

  • Firefox will not open certain websites, unless I close and restart the browser. Anyone hear of this ?

Some webpages, for example newegg.com, will not open at all. But if I close ff and then restart ff - newegg.com will load up almost instantly. Yahoo's pages have problems as well - especially if there is a video with a news article. Many times - there simply wont even be a placeholder. I will read the article - and then realize there should be a video accompanying it - I'll have to view in IE - which I hate.

I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. Can you please tell me how that service will get along with LastPass which does basically the same thing as Synch-it is probably spelled wrong as it looks wrong to me but if I click back to where this issue began, I will lose all of this question so please respond for the upcoming service synch.

  • Safari not opening certain websites

When I try to open Facebook or Google I get the following error message:
    Invalid URL
The requested URL "/", is invalid.
In addition, websites that normally come up pretty quickly seem to be taking an extremely long time to load.
To be sure that this isn't a problem with my internet provider I logged onto my craptastic Windows-based laptop and opened both Facebook and Google on it with Safari and these websites came right up and with no delay.
Anyone know wha the problem is and if there is a solution?  And no, I have not yet upgraded to Mountain Lion yet as I am replacing my hard drive this afternoon and will upgrade after that.

If it happens again, try deleting the cache associated with Safari.
    Quit Safari.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.

  • Have mac 10.6.8 firefox will not open certain websites and if you do open them logins fail , also with safari and chrome, please help

recently updated mac to this version, and since then certain web pages timeout or server not found or they just hang, you get the address come up but the blue wheel spins and the page never loads. (this is the same in safari and chrome) but i can access some pages, and also thunderbird, msn messenger etc, i have cleared history, checked firewall, and done updates still no luck, also if i do get a page to appear ie: ebay / paypal etc they are in a strange format and then it fails at logins, is this a https/http problem or due to a upgrade or more sinister, please advise

You can try to reset (power off/on) the router.
You can try to disable IPv6<br />
