Safari is unable to connect to websites

Okay, Safari works without a problem on my computer, unless I visit www.nfl.com (it works perfectly on all other computers). When I attempt to load this site, the Safari does not finish loading it. If I hit "Stop" and attempt to visit other sites, I can no longer connect to other servers or visit other websites. What is wrong with this, and why does a specific web site set this off? How do I fix this?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
These are simpler things to try first after emptying the cache,
I would think.
(Hi, Barry
1. Empty your History setting via the Safari menu
2. Trash your Icons Folder:
HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
3. You might want to check all three "auto" preferences in Safari. Sometimes those lists gets very long and need pruning. (I turned all autofill boxes off, and have no problems.)
4. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this one at a time for each font with a bullet next to it.
If you're still having problems:
5. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
Hope this helps

  • Why won't safari load images and connect to websites?

We've had this problem intermittently for several months. When visiting SOME websites (though never the same ones twice) instead of loading images, it comes up with a blue question mark in a box. if we try to reload the page, it will do one of two things: it will either reload exactly the same, or, it will reload in a format that shows vertical written links - no images. it almost looks like programming language, but it's readable.
also, when we go between links, we often get the message that "safari can't find the server". this is, again, erratic. If i try to go directly to the same website by typing in the address in the bar, i will get the connection. (so, if i go from youtube for example to try to connect to another website it won't work. but if i try to go directly to that website by just typing in the address myself, i can get it.) as i said, it doesn't always happen, but when it does it's a real pain!
lately, i've had a new problem too, which seems to relate: when using hulu.com, it will not load the show saying it is unavailable and to clear my cache. I've done that... and it still won't reload. yet, when i go to google, and search hulu.com, and go to the website that way, i can get to the show page no problem. Or, i have to quit safari and then go back to hulu and, again, no problem.
sometimes we can go for days without the problem, sometimes not.
any ideas on how to help this problem would be MOST appreciated! thanks

    blue question mark in box
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Make sure Display images when the page opens is selected.
For server issues, try turning off the router for a few minutes, then restart it.
Hulu requires the Flash plugin. Uninstall your current copy of Flash, then reinstall >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Try emptying the Safari cache more often.
And reset Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
And how much free space on the startup disk?     Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Try Safari in another user account. Same problems there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility.  /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Safari/Firefox will not connect to websites.  BUT Entourage works normal.

For the past 2 weeks both my iMac and MacBook Pro have experienced the same problem. Neither can connect to a website via Safari or Firefox BUT both send/receive email from Entourage. When i troubleshoot the Airport it says all is working properly.
This happens at both my home office (apple router) and downtown office (Belkin).
Ideas anyone? The only software installed lately is for a wireless printer with WiFi. But i don't see how that is relevant.
    Thanks for any ideas!

    Hi. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your problem seems a little weird. Have you tried trashing preference files?
Safari's is located in user>library>preferences and is called com.apple.safari.plist
I'm not sure about Firefox's, but it is probably inside a folder called Mozilla or Firefox.
    Hope this helps

Firefox's may be in the same location as Safari's and could be called something like com.mozilla.firefox.plist

  • Wifi unable to connect to websites getting problem like bottle neck issue.

    hi all,
we are facing a problem with our wifi network in our company, we residency for students nearly 338 rooms per room 2 students so its nearly 700 students staying in our residency and we have 16 perfectly place Access points in our premises there is no problem in the signal coverage, also getting 2Mbps to 8 Mbps speed, during peak hours (we have 110Mbps bandwidth) after 6pm in the night till 3 in the morning, we are unable to browse any sites even though we are getting 8Mbps speed, some times after 20 sec its connection some times keep on prograssing we did all the basic steps like blocking the overflowing UDP protocol, we blocked torrentz, we even blocked skype also same problem getting for the last two months.pls help us to resolve this or guide us to troubleshoot,

Just to add to everyone's post.. That is a lot of users for that amount of AP's and I can see why they have issues.
Can you see the utilization on the switchport the AP's are connected to or even the utilization from that building to your core? If you have lightweight AP's and WCS, you should also be able to see the utilization at a given time on each AP. I have worked on College dorms and apartment units and we have installed much more than that. I would have to guess maybe 25 or less students per AP. this was also due to attenuation. They do love their gaming systems though:)

  • I am unable to connect to the internet, there is a pop-up that says "We're sorry, but the Safari browse version you are currently using dos no support the community toolbar". My computer does say that it is connected to the internet until I open Safari.

I am unable to connect to the interent. At the top of the screen my computer says that I am connected. When I open up Safari there is a pop up that say "Community Toolbar          We're sorry, but the Safari browser version you are currently using does not support the community toolbar" and when the Safari page opens up it says "You are not connected to the Internet. Safari can't open the page .... because your computer isn't connected to the Internet." I have tried Network Diagnostics and tried to reset Sfari, empty Cache as well as deleted all of my interent history. I am unable to use Time Machine because I never set it up. • I AM UNABLE TO CONNECT TO ANY WEBSITE USING FIREFOX. EVEN THOUGH, I HAVE BEEN USING FIREFOX ON THE SAME COMPUTER FOR YEARS WITH NO DIFFICULTY. THE PROBLEM AROSE AFTER COMCAST, MY ISP, RECOVERED FROM A WIDESPREAD OUTAGE THAT LASTED 5 HOURS.

I SUCCEEDED IN TRANSFERING ALL MY BOOKMARKS TO GOOGLE CHROME. THIS WILL ALLOW ME ACCESS TO WEBSITES WHILE I WAIT FOR A METHOD TO REPAIR MY FIREFOX PROGRAM. IN A PREVIOUS MESSAGE, I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCESS ANY WEBSITE USING FIREFOX AFTER COMCAST, MY ISP, RECOVERED FROM AN OUTAGE THAT LASTED 5 HOURS. WHENEVER I TRIED TO CONNECT TO A SITE, A POP-UP MESSAGE APPEARED INDICATING: "UNABLE TO INITIALIZE THE APPLICATION'S SECURITY COMPONENT. THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS PROBLEMS WITH FILES IN YOUR APPLICATION'S PROFILE DIRECTORY. CHECK THAT THIS DIRECTORY HAS NO READ/WRITE RESTRICTIONS." I EVEN REMOVED FIREFOX FROM MY COMPUTER AND DOWNLOADED IT AGAIN, FIGURING THAT BY NOT MERELY USING AN UPGRADE, I WOULD BE INSTALLING A COMPLETELY FRESH DOWNLOAD. UNFORTUNATELY, I RECEIVED THE SAME DISAPPOINTING RESULT, WITH THE SAME POP-UP MESSAGE RE-APPEARING. HOWEVER USING BOTH GOOGLE CHROME AND INTERNET EXPLORER, I WAS ABLE TO CONNECT TO WEBSITES. SO I HAVE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH MY INTERNET CONNECTION.

Press '''START + R''' in keyboard to open the '''Run''' box(or '''start''' then '''run''') , type in the RUN box '''%APPDATA%''' (or copied in just i wrote, bold text) then click '''OK'''. A Windows Explorer window will appear, in this window, choose '''Mozilla''' then '''Firefox''' then '''Profiles'''. Each folder in the "Profiles" folder (e.g., "xxxxxxxx.default") is a profile on your computer (maybe is one file if you have only one profile).

  • I have a ipad mini and it says that it has perect wifi yet when i go into safari it says unable to connect with the server how can i fix this?

I have a ipad mini and i have had it for less then a year, it says that i have perfect wifi up in the left corner where the wifi is always at  but when ever i go into the built in safari it says that it is unable to connect with the server. How can i fix this because with out it connecting to the server or internet it is kind of useless to me. I do have ios7 if that helps

The wifi symbol only indicates the presence/signal strength of wifi. Not that you are connected.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
