Safari is very slow

Last weeks Safari on my iMac is running very slow. The problems is not in the internet speed since that is almost running at maximum speed. I've run an EtreCheck this morning. Maybe someone can help me with the results.
Problem description:

There are many possible causes for problems with web browsing. Below are some simple steps that may help either to solve the problem or isolate the cause.
Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Restart your router and also your broadband device, if they're separate.
2. If you connect to the the router with Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi and then back on.
3. If you connect with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi.
4. If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed.
5. Select the Extensions tab in the Preferences window. Turn all extensions OFF and test. If there's an improvement, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
6. If you're running OS X 10.10 or later, select the Search tab. Uncheck the box marked
          Enable Quick Website Search
if it's checked.
7. If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
          Stop plug-ins to save power
Quit and relaunch the browser.
8. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest.
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
9. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
10. If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test.
11. If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test.
12. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the boxes marked Safari and Photos, if they're checked.
13. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and if so, are they affected?
14. If you can, test Safari on another network.
15. Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.

Do you get a notice that Safari has quit unexpectedly? If so, please do the following.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

Nope. You can always reverse that if you choose.

Since several days ago Safari runs very slow. I have cleaned the computer, big files, reseted safari, turned off DNS, turned on again.. and many more tips found  but no luck. I would apprecieate you help.
    thanks

If you have not done so lately, empty the Safari cache. Press Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting plug-ins and extensions ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not a plug-in issue, select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.  If that made a difference, uninstall one at a time, quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the culprit.
When you post, it helps to tell us which OS X your Mac has installed, and in this case, which version of Safari.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.

If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Safari brow. very slow on windows platform. Why ?

    Hello everyone!
I am Italian and this is my first post, and I want your help.
Using Safari on a Vaio Sony with Windows XP SP3, and I have a big problem:
The opening of the Safari browser when the computer is very..very slow!
Indeed, to start Safari it takes from 40 to 50 seconds, and other
sometimes even more ... how can I solve this problem?
    Thank you all !
    massimo

I seems to have the same problem too!
It is like Safari is frozen but this only happen when I first launch Safari. After about a minute or so, Safari 'wakes up' and start loading web pages, and browsing seems to be fine. This issue I think started ever since I install XP SP3.
I am using AMD Atholon 64 X2 3800, with 2GB of RAM. Checked Task Manager and Safari is only using around 90MB so it is not hogging all the memory. Not sure why this happen.
Now I just start Safari, walked away for a coffee and leave it running throughout.

  • Safari is very slow on iPad 2 running iOS 5.1.

I'm running ios 5.1.1 on my iPad 2. For the past few days, safari has been very slow. it can take 20 seconds for a web page to load. If I force quit, it gets better for a short time, but then the problem starts up again.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

  • New installed 10.9.1 and yahoo mail in safari is very slow to respond

installed Mavericks yesterday. Safari yahoo mail very slow to load and respond. Not a problem on Firefox.

There is a strong possibility that your Mac's hard drive is failing.
Purchase and external hard drive and format it for Mac extended format with GUID partition scheme and backup your entire system and data using a data cloning app such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to created a bootable copy (clone) of your Mac's internal hard drive to the external drive.
Then you need to bring your Mac into an Apple Store or Apple authorized service center for free diagnosis and quote for repair/ hardware replacement.
    Good Luck!

  • Safari is very slow compared to other ipod

When using safari it is very slow tobrowse web pages. My wife also has an ipod touch and she can browse the internet no problem. it makes no difference if only my ipod is connected ti the net or both of them, my wifes is always a lot quicker. Sometimes it is taking 30-60 seconds to open a page.
    any suggestions?

I realize that, but I also got the same speeds with my other wireless laptop (thinkpad t420s). The speed should be at around 50 Mbps regardless of whether it's wired or wireless according to my test.
So if it's an antenna issue, does it mean I need to have the macbook serviced at an apple store?
I'm not really interested in getting a range extender, it's not something I feel I should need, especially when I have another laptop getting 3x faster speeds without the need for one.

  • Upgraded to 4.2 and now Mail and Safari are VERY SLOW...

For some reason since I upgraded to 4.2, both my email and safari are MUCH slower than they were before. Web pages take longer to load and when the Mail program checks for mail it takes forever. I checked out our internet connection (cable modem and Airport Extreme) and the connection is still very fast using our computers. This slowness issue is ONLY with the iPad. Has anyone else noticed internet speed issues with 4.2? ; Is there any solution? I have tried switching on and off the wifi option on the iPad and even restarting the unit but nothing seems to help.
    Thanks!
    Steven

    Hi Steven,
Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Sometimes resetting to default factory settings can help a connection issue.
