Safari issue
Hi everyone.
Having installed an auto update of Safari and Itunes I now have problems with Safari. It will not open and a message says: Safari closed unexpectedly. I then ditched the prog. and downloaded it from the Website. But that didn't work either.
Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you overcome it?
Frank
Welcome to the forums!
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
Safari 4.1.2 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
Safari 5.0.2 for Leopard (and Snow Leopard) can be downloaded from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta and which was updated to v.3.1.2, and now Tiger uses Safari 4.1.2 and Leopard uses Safari 5.0.2, as does Snow Leopard albeit a different version. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
• Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
• Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

System Preferences and Safari issues
Hi I have a very concerning issue with system preferences and a smaller issue with Safari (7.0). When I open system preferences and navigate to the "internet accounts" page and try to remove an account or click the "Advanced" button, nothing happens. I see a faint flicker of the system prefs window but nothing changes. Another example is when I click on the "networks" page and try and open the "Advanced" window, nothing happens. I also can't sign out of iCloud or view my iCloud account information the buttons seem to do nothing. I've already tried installing mavericks again, deleting appropriate plists, resetting PRAM/NVRAM, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions to no avail and I really need to find a solution. If this helps, the guest account does not have any issues described above. The safari issue is minor but when Safari opens, there is a gray box around the page title in the top bar of safari no matter what webpage im on. I have tried resetting safari, deleting caches and extensions but nothing works. I really appreciate any help with these issues.
Here is an example of the Safari issue.Do you have the installer DVD? If you do:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the OS X Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current. -
Youtube and Safari Issues on iPad/Apple devices.
For the last few days I have had a problem with all my apple devices. For some reason Youtube videos will not play, I keep getting the message "This video is currently unavailable" when I try to play any video. This only happens on Youtube through Safari, the app on my 3gs works fine but the app is not for iPad. Another problem that I get only on my iPad is that Safari is acting all weird. When I try to click on a link nothing happens and when I press the back button it goes back 2 or more pages instead of the previous page like its supposed to. Steps I've tried to resolve the problem:
Force close the apps.
Force restart the iPad/All apple devices.
Reset all settings.
Restore iPad through iTunes.
None of the above steps have worked for me and I just don't know what to do. This only happens through wifi but I am certain their is nothing wrong with my wifi as my android devices and my laptop/desktop computer work fine when trying to view youtube videos. As I mentioned this is happening on all Apple devices which include:
iPad 2
iPhone 3gs
iPhone 5
iPod touch 4th gen.
The weird safari issue is only occurring on my iPad.
Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.call your isp

I've been experiencing a few issues lately but not sure they're related.
1. I receive emails that will not always display the pictures (sometimes they're viewable). Instead, I get the blue box with a question mark. However I can view the same email without issue using my iPhone and iPad, or even from a different email account (I forwarded the email to another one of my accounts to narrow down if it's an email issue, Safari issue or something else).
2. Safari freezes at some point almost everyday and I get the spinning ball. Most of the time, I can't click on other applications so I'm forced to perform a Force Quit. I haven't noticed a pattern such as specific sites, adobe related, etc. It's very frustrating.
3. The overall system performance is slower than it used to be. Sites that used to come up quickly will now sit and wait.
I cleared my cache, and removed a webpageicons.db file based on suggestions in this forum but haven't noticed any changes.
Anyone have any input about my issues?
Thank you!Hi,
The overall system performance is slower than it used to be. Sites that used to come up quickly will now sit and wait.
Check the startup disk for problems, it may need repairing.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free space.

Am using Safari 6.0.5, suddenly my Yahoo mail account won't keep me logged in and the 'keep me logged in' button has disappeared. It is still there on Chrome so am assuming it is a Safari issue. It just happened suddenly. Have reset Safari, cache and also changed my Yahoo password but problem is still there.
I still don't understand what the problem that you are experiencing is. If you get to a page where yahoo is asking JUST for your password, and there is no box for username (it may have your username displayed, but not in a enter box), then you ARE "being kept signed in" You can verify this by instead of entering your password, go to www.yahoo.com home page, and it will say something like "Hi, Amber" This means you ARE signed in.
When you get that page asking for just your password, you are NOT being asked to sign in again. You are simply being asked to verify/enter your assword an Nth time. If you get that page right after entering your username and password, try clicking the "back" (previous page) button. It might just go to your inbox.
If this is the case, your problem has nothing to do with being kept signed in or not, the problem is that for some (unknown to me) reason, yahoo is asking you to re-enter your password, kind of like when your mac asks for your mac password when changing system settings. Yahoo does this as a safety feature when you go to account settings, and apparently abritary other times. I wish I understood just why I get it every time after signing in.
It could be because I have java turned off. It could be because I don't accept third party cookies. Maybe a cache file. Or a hundred other things... I don't know. It could simply be yahoo is scrooing safari users. I have glanced at the html, but to really understand it, it would take me days. There are over 25 places where username and password are in the html "source" code of the yahoo login page, and even understanding that may not tell me. In the past, I have seen code essentiall saying "if IE x.3.2" do this, if chrome do that, if mozilla do something else, otherwise make it next to impossible...."
My problem is not only I get asked for my assword a second time, but also (and only very recently) I do not get a prompt to save username and pasword. I have gone to yahoo help pages to try to figure it out, and I feel like I just run in circles. If one wants to send a question in, they have to answer half a dozen questions disclosing private information. And I pay yahoo $20/year. grrr
If when you are trying to access your yahoo mail and you are being asked to enter both your username and password, but didn't sign out of yahoo, then indeed your are not being "kept signed in" -

Safari issues being posted lately?
Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed there seems to be an increase of Safari issues with malware. Is there something leading to this? Maybe a common website breached? Just curious. But more to educate myself
FOR the record, I love Safari. It's my favorite browser!Major reason is that there are more and more adware injecting sites nowadays.
Major Mac publications promote useless applications like MacKeeper to increase revenue. -
Dept of Worforce Website and Safari issues
I was using the website, most everything works, but I get this on hyperlinks:
Error 404: SRVE0190E: File not found: /CSSWebHelp/CSS_Field_Level_Help/CSS_401K_MonthlyDistribution.htm>>cap=Field Level Help>>pan=1
any ideas? No, 404 errors happen all the time, usually with the redesign of a web site, pages that were previously there are taken out or given a new home and people might still have the old page bookmarked, or the site designers didn't update the site navigation to redirect requests for the old page to the new one. It's definitely not a Safari issue; you'd get the same result with Firefox or any other browser.

Safari Issues - Mavericks 10.9.1
Hi everyone.
I have been having major issues with Safari in the last week.
Basically, when I first open the App, it doesn't open. It is displayed in the Menu Bar at the top as being open, but it's not.
The only way I can actually get the Safari window to open is to Reset Safari from the menu (Which I have done).
All of my bookmarks have disappeared, and pages cease to load properly.
I constantly get the pinwheel of death, and can't exit out of tabs!
After browsing the support communities, these are the actions I have taken:
Reset Safari
Disable Extensions, Plug-Ins - Removed appropriate files from Library.
Attempt to access the Safari file in my library (see photo below - it appears to be somewhat missing? Along with messages and mail, which I have also had issues with, not a big deal because I do not use these apps frequently on my Macbook)
And lastly, I have reinstalled/reset Mavericks about 3 times.
I have copied and pasted the Diagnostic Report in hope that somebody is able to help me.
Please let me know if i've included the correct information and whether or not there is anything else I can provide to help diagnose the problem!

Safari issue: Multiple browser pages from the past are resident!
Having an issue with safari. When i open up the app, there are 7 previous pages that were accessed in the past that are open. I have tried to delete cookies, history, hard reset, etc. I can close out all of the previous open pages but the next time that a reset or power cycle is performed, they reappear! Has anyone experienced this same issue?
ScottIn Safari, press the little number icon in the lower right (I think the number tells how many windows are open). Then you can browse those windows (use your finger to move back and forth). Press the red X on any that you want to close.
That's what I do. -
Safari issues, iPad 3rd gen iOS 5,1,1
Right, I bought an iPad 3rd gen and I've been having to reset it 2-3 times daily because of this issue.
When generally surfing the web, doesnt matter what sites it seems, safari just decides.
I'm not going to load the link you just clicked on :P
The site address changes, a small portion of the progress bar turns blue and nothing. It just freezes.
Nothing I've tried (clearing all caches etc) makes any difference, except a reset. Quite annoying.
I had no such issues on my iPad 2.
This issue doesnt appear to be limited to safari though. I've had problems with lovefilm and my speed test app as well so I'm guessing its a general wifi problem.
After safari froze I decided to check the speed of my connection. It didn't come back with a ping, I waited 10 mins still nothing.
At the same time my iPhone (4s) with the same app came back with a ping of 30ms and d/l speed of 15MB/s.
I'm now confused as to whether this is a software or hardware issue.
Any advice would be appreciated.Swingflaps-
One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) your iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

Safari issues after updating to Mac OS X 10.8.5
I recently upgraded to the newest version of Mac OS X 10.8.5 in my Macbook Pro. I am limited on memory and did not upgrade to Mavericks OS X. Ever since this upgrade I have not been able to open Safari or my Canon Navigator (to scan documents into my computer for email purposes). Upon trying to open Safari, all I get is a spinning wheel. It never opens; I have to force quit the application (and it says not responding). The Canon Navigator opens and immediately closes and issues an error report. Please help. I have all of the websites that I use for business stored in my bookmarks bar, and I do not know how to access them otherwise. As far as my Canon printer, I have to scan signed documents and email the return documents, but am unable to utilize this either. I do not have fax capabilities, so at this moment I am at a standstill.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

IOS 8.2 on iPhone 4S - (major) Safari issue?
Hi everyone,
after getting pretty excited while watching the Keynote earlier today, I think I made a big mistake updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8.2 immediately after release as I have a major issue with Safari now - I will try to explain:
It will take Safari several minutes to load even the most simple website (google) on the first try. If not interrupted during this time, the website will eventually load and after that Safari is as fast as it should be when opening other websites, tabs or using the address bar to search. After closing Safari - and re opening it will again, load any given site (tried NYTimes, WSJ, google, Highsnobiety, Selectism, gmail) painfully slow and after that, again work as fast as it should be.
If Safari is interrupted during this first opening of a site, it will freeze and finally shut down.
What it also kinda funny: If a site like nytimes.com has a re-deriction, to mobile.nytimes.com in this instance - Safari will notice that immediately/as fast as it should, but then takes minutes to load the site.
Internet connection via W-Lan or mobile works at the desired speed, as do apps like Mail, NYTimes, WSJ i.e.
What I tried so far:
Shut down phone and restarted - didn't help.
Reseted phone - didn't help.
What I could do:
Make a clean iOS 8.2 install ("new iPhone")
Recover from Backup.
Since it is Tuesday (10.03.2015) at 02:20 AM where I am located, I'm not really in the mood to completely restore my phone (that I need) anew right now. I will see if there will be a 8.2.1 to fix this rather soon and keep Safari opened in background, or if I will have to put up with configuring my iPhone anew in the coming week...
Greetings and thank you very much for any input you might have.
OliverThank you very much for bringing that up jakefsf!
Although I didn't mess with the DNS servers in my settings in first place, I figured it couldn't hurt to try to change it - and I was right, Safari works (for) now - as it should - every-time.
What I did: I changed the DNS Server's address from my original address to 8.8.8.8 (google's DNS server) - after that Safari worked like a charm. I changed back to the original address, Safari still works like a charm. So I guess something got clogged/*whatever* - and that "playing" with the addresses removed it.
(I forgot to mention in my original post, that I too tried to delete the cache and stuff - but that didn't do the trick.)
So I guess either the Update caused the "clogging" or my Router/ISP (Which I doubt, because everything was fine on my MacBook Air - using the same Router/W-Lan) - thankfully I'm fine now with a fully operational phone.
Thank you very much for bringing this very helpful solution jakefsf!!
@jimdouglas, It can't hurt if you try to do the same. Settings -> WiFi -> tap on the circled i behind the WiFi you're using, and change the DNS Server's address to 8.8.8.8 - see if Safari works. If it does, you can go back to the settings, remove 8.8.8.8 (leave it blank) it will automatically get the address back from your router - if it still works, it did the trick.
Greetings,
Oliver -
HT204245 Safari issue on iPad.
I Am facing an issue where all urls gets redirect to some malicious website and opens iTunes. It is similar to what is mentioned in security updates in CVE-2014-8840. is someone else facing similar issue? Please help if there is a solution.
Try doing the following and see if it still happens :
- clear Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear History And Website Data
- close Safari via the iPad’s taskbar : double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Safari app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
- soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
when I try to log in to a site using Safari it will not log in. I am currently on iPhone 5s with OS 7.0.3 My wife is on iPhone 5 with OS 7 and does NOT have this issue.
Any suggestions on if there is a setting I need to change? To the moderator. Thank you for approving my post, but how am I suppose to show what I am talking about if you go and remove the url examples I put in my post? The links were not bad, spam or etc, they were just examples paths I made up.

Safari issues following latest update
Hello,
Am having issues with Safari following the ios8 update - pages not loading, menus not selectable. I am running torch as an emergency and have no issues with that.
All seems to have happened after yesterdays software update.........imac, IOS8
Any suggestions?
dazPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
