Safari just not working like it used to

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not on the leading edge with my software – I'm still running OS X 10.2.8 and Safari 1.0.3 on my Mirror Drive Door G4. But lately, Safari seems like it doesn't want to work with some web pages. For example, when I go to the Apple site, I get a big black void on the new iPhone landing page – I know there's supposed to be something there, but it's not showing up. On some other sites (particularly those using active server pages), some links are no longer clickable. Even Safari's pop-up blocker seems to get defeated more often lately. (For the record: I've got plug-ins, Java and Javascript enabled, and I'm always accepting cookies. I also clear the cache regularly and have cleaned up my permissions and preferences.) My current work-around is simply to browse troublesome pages in Firefox instead. But I'd like to continue using Safari.
Am I correct in suspecting that there's nothing wrong with my machine or software, but that web technology is changing rapidly and that Safari 1.0.3 is just obsolete? I realize that Apple's "Help" says to always use the latest version of Safari. For me, I guess that means purchasing Tiger or Leopard. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet? Thanks.
Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

garp --
I understand your situation.
You would love Tiger, but given your current Jaguar
here's a list of basic cleaning up things to do.
Do these & report back, OK ?
1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
2. Trash your Icons Folder:
HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
3. Unfortunately, you don't have Font Book with Jaguar. Do you have a font manager? You might want to check for duplicate fonts on your Mac. By adding new apps & peripherals, extra fonts have been added, and you may have duplicates or font conflicts which can slow things down considerably.
Do not touch any fonts located in the HD>System>Library>Fonts folder.
Question for you: Do you have internet apps SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer ? Or Norton or Virex? Sometimes non-apple internet apps need updating or uninstalling. If you do, let us know which ones and which version, please.
If you're still having problems:
4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
Safari 1.0.3 is very old, and it is entirely possible that it's just not reading sites well. But if you do all of the above, at least it should be better.
Hope this helps

  • After the official 10.1 os update my bluetooth in car does not work like it used to.

    ***SORRY THIS IS CLONED of this http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Z10/In-car-bluetooth-not-working-properly-after-10...
    New to forum sorry.
    I have a BB Z10 and whenever I entered my vehicle the in-car bluetooth would connect/pair to the phone and the music which was great and had no problems with listening to music and making phone calls.
    But recently with the 10.1 update it's all gone wrong the phone does not respond anymore to making calls, but the music still plays and I can still remote control the music via the steering wheel. however there is  no call audio the call starts and it shows it being connected but no audio from the in car bluetooth.
    Now I did some CSI investigations into the matter and I have narrowed it down to anything previous to the 10.1 update works fine.
    I backed up the phone via BB link and then rolled back the updates and I found that 10.0.09.2372 works just fine with the in-car bluetooth with making calls and playing music I literally just tested this. I then installed the leaked 10.1.0.1880 hoping it was fixed but no improvement over the official 10.1 it still does not play call audio.
    I have now reverted back to the official 10.1 and restored phone backup and then once again tried as before with all the pairing one has patience for, it just will not work in my car. I desperately need my Z10 to work in my car!
    Is this issue going to be addressed very soon??? I am not the only one with this problem. Help anyone...
    I would also like it that the music doesn’t start automatically as I have deezer and would like that to be an option to play that music instead.
    Anyway thanks for your time... any help with who to contact or whatever would be appreciated.

    Same problem with my z10 since 10.1 OS update. Please help.

  • HFP STILL NOT WORKING LIKE IT USED TO IN iOS7

    When using iMaps turn by turn directions before iOS8, you could leave your car radio on an FM station and when a directions was spoken, it would stop the FM broadcast for a moment, speak the direction over the car's speakers and then go back to FM. Since iOS8, it won't do this. You can only hear the directions if you leave the radio on bluetooth. Is this going to be fixed?

    Yes. When I click on it, it gives me volume control and output control. The output can be iphone or HandsFreeLink. When using HFL, it only works when my radio is tuned to bluetooth. It doesn't work when I use FM radio like I used to. I don;t want to keep my radio on bluetooth just to hear directions every now and then, I want to listen to the radio and have iMAPs break in when it needs to.

  • Blue Tooth Stereo not working like it used to (Lollipop Upgrade)

    I have an LG G3 - All around I really love this phone. However, last week the Lollipop OS came out and I upgraded it to that 5.0.1 OS. I now regret doing so and wish I could go back to the previous OS.
    Here's my issue - The Bluetooth stereo no longer plays as it used to. Now if I try to play a song either through Spotify or the Music Player App I will get frequent interrupts to the song almost like the song is buffering. I don't experience this issue with phone calls and I have no problems with the receiving phone calls. I've tried clearing the system memory both on the stereo and the phone, and repaired the device but at most I get a minute of music before I get the interrupts again.
    This is a huge flaw. My phone is my default device I use when I listen to music in my car and I've had to resort to using an AUX cable. And while that is a work around, I'd like my phone to operate as it did before the Lollipop upgrade.
    If you could look into this  Verizon Wireless Customer Support and get a fix or work or a way to revert to the old OS, I'd much appreciate it.
    Thanks!
    Aime

        Hey there jordy1282! I loves me some Network Extender. I'm sorry that the reason you've come to share your experience with it is the result of there being a problem. Still, I'm happy to help! First, you mentioned that using the service in your home is almost like the extender isn't there at all. Have you tried disabling/turning off the device and trying to make calls using direct connection to our network? How's your home internet service working out? Any trouble with your broadband connection recently? Finally, what zip code are you in?

  • Mouse and trackpad just not working - can't use machine

    Hi there,
    I have a late 2009 iMac running an up to date version of Mountain Lion and all has been well until today.
    My iMac behaving very oddly with my trackpad. I have tried switching it our for a wired mouse and I get the same results. This is what I am experiencing:
    The iMac behaves as though I have either:
    clicked and held my finger down - on my desktop when  I move the cursor around the iMac thinks I'm trying to select an area
    right clicked - when I try and click on an icon in the dock, the right click options appear
    Additionally I am experiencing the following
    iMac doesn't respond to me clicking on an icon
    I can't select an option, ie if I do select an option such as 'Continue' (more of that later*) I  can't get the iMac to respond to me clicking it
    Before switching over to my mouse I replaced the batteries in my BT keyboard and the trackpad. I've also tried attaching a USB keyboard (albeit a PC one)
    I have tried the following:
    resetting the V/P RAM
    booting in Safe Mode
    Shutting down, unplugging everything (inc power cord) and left for 10 mins before rebooting
    Booting in recovery mode and reinstalling M Lion - I can't even do this
    * When presented with the recovery options I can scroll through the 4 options with the up down arrow keys, I can select 'Continue' with the mouse or trackpad (it goes a solid blue colour) but I move forward - either by clicking it or hitting Enter on the keyboard.
    I'm now totally stuck as when I reboot (there's been a fair few forced ones) I can't even select my user profile (or any of the Resart/Shut Down options)
    Time to make a Genius Bar apppointment, or is there something else I can do?
    Thanks
    EDIT: I did manage to select my wife's user profile and eventually got into the system, and very strangley if I access the iMac via LogMeIn on my work PC it responds excatly as it should. I can click, select as normal. Even when I'm doing this remotely my trackpad and mouse continue to behave incorrectly (as described above

    Man.. I is such a fool sometimes.
    So I reinstalled ML - which on my cruddy 4 MB ADSL connection took a fair while. And still the problem was there.
    Then I tried one small thing... take the batteries out of the trackpad and then try using the wired mouse. BINGO.
    After a few more tests it has bceome clear that it was the trackpad that was at fault. Not my iMac, not my OS. Having it on would screw up what the wired mouse was trying to do. Should've checked that HOURS ago.
    I have a spare trackpad (I used to have a Mac from work and bought myself a trackpad for it. No longer have a Mac for work as a switched employers, but ironcially willbe getting one next week!). I have installed the 2nd trackpad and all works fine.
    Lesson learned - do more thorough diagnostics!
    I'm off to cancel my Genius Bar apppointment

  • Lock Fill for Gradient Not Working (like it used to)

    This used to work on my last version of Flash (CS5.5):
    I use the brush tool to paint a gradient fill area. I then sample it with the eyedropper tool (either right afterwards or later) and notice that the Lock Fill tool option is now on. So far so good. I then continue painting, expecting the gradient to extend itself, because Lock Fill is now on. Instead, a solid fill color (somewhere between the 2 color stops) is painted. The only way I can extend the gradient is to paint the new fill area, then sample the original gradient fill and use the Paint Bucket on the new fill area. Argh...
    Is this a bug, a Flash setting that I can modify somewhere, or a planned change in the way Lock Fill works? I've tried this on 2 PC's running Windows 7 and get the same result.

    Please see DownloadHelper support for help with their add-on.

  • Button/UiLoader Code just not working like I want it to.

    Can anyone tell me why my forward button (next_btn3) isn't working?  I've got a uiLoader (printLoader) which loads three images.  Everything works fine, I can see the button but can't use it.  Thanks in advance.
    next_btn3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextImage3);
    var imageNumber3:Number = 1;
    function checkNumber3():void{
    next_btn3.visible=true;
    back_btn3.visible=true;
    if(imageNumber3==3){
      trace(imageNumber3);
      next_btn3.visible = false;
      if(imageNumber3==1){
       trace(imageNumber3);
       back_btn3.visible = false;
    checkNumber3();
    function nextImage3(evtObj:MouseEvent):void{
    imageNumber3++;
    printLoader.source = "images/print_images/image"+imageNumber3+".jpg";
    checkNumber3();
    back_btn3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, backImage3);
    function backImage3(evtObj:MouseEvent):void
    imageNumber3--;
    printLoader.source = "images/print_images/image"+imageNumber3+".jpg";
    checkNumber3();

    Thanks for responding.
    If I rename the back_btn instance to next_btn and the next_btn to back_btn and click the back button, this is the error:
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

  • Keyboard backlight not working like it used to

    For some reason my keyboard will not let me manually adjust the back light.
    I tried unselecting the "illuminate in low light" in settings- but that doesn't help. And when I go back into preferences it shows as being selected again. How do I override the backlight so that I have full manual control in all lighting conditions?

  • HT4623 i can no longer access Safari.  It's not the phone because Apple just sent a new one and it still does not work.  I use the same computer to sync my ipodtouch5 and it has Safari.  My iphone4 does not.  What is the problem?

    I can no longer access Safari.  It's not the phone because Apple just sent a new one and it  (Safari) still does not work.  I use the same computer to sync my ipodtouch5 and Safari is operable.   However, Safari on my iphone is not.  What is the problem?

    That is the way it works. It designed to do that.
    In addition to everything else you have to this other person's computer you would have to move your complete iTunes library over also. Only then will it recognize youriTouch.

  • Just installed Office 2011 on my MacBook Pro Retina and now Safari does not work

    Just installed Micro Office 2011 on my 13" MacBook Retina and now Safari is not working correctly. Pages load very slowly or not at all.
    Any idea of what's wrong?
    Thanks

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
    When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

    That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
    Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
    Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
    Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
    Select First Aid in the Main panel.
    (Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
    Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
    If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
    If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
    If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
    First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.
