Safari keeps asking for non-signin keychain password

My macbook Pro running OSx10.x keeps asking me for the password for a non-sign-in keychain every time Safari boots-up.

I had similar problems but with me it was the AirPort keychain.
Here's the advice I followed from (16.1.1.1) was in this thread, courtesy of Jim R:
Hi all,
The trick is to delete the keychain item in the system keychain for the resource that's giving you the trouble, e.g. Airport network password.
1. Open the Keychain program
2. Select System keychain.
3. Select the keychain item you want to delete, and choose Delete from the Edit menu (you won't need to enter a password).
4. Next time you enter the password to access the network and save to keychain, the item will be recreated.

You should find Keychain app in your Utilities folder.
Hope it works.

  • MacBook keeps asking for the 'login' keychain password?

Well I updated my Macbook to Mavericks and after restarting it a couple days later, a window annoyingly keeps popping up asking for the keychain password which I've unfortunately forgotten. I researched a little and someone suggested trying the KeyChain First Aid and if that fails, to delete it but neither work. How can I stop this from constantly popping up on my screen?
    Thankyou!!!

If you are repeatedly prompted for your login keychain password, you may find the following article helpful:

  • My Mac keeps asking for my "login" keychain after I changed my password on my Mac. How do I stop the popups?

I forgot the password to my Mac, so I reset my password, and ever since then, there have been popups asking for my "login" keychain password. I enter it every time, but they still pop up. Also, my Mail keeps asking for the password to my email, and iMessage is on, but I can't receive any messages, and the window won't even pop up.
Does anyone know the solution for this?

Go to your Utilities folder and open Keychain Access. Follow the steps here: Mac OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password.

  • I just upgraded to Lion. I was trying to set up the iCloud and it asked for my "login" keychain password. I've never been asked for that before. I've tried every password I can think of and nothing works. Is there a way to reset the keychain password?

I just upgraded to Lion. I was trying to set up iCloud and it asked for my "login" keychain password. I've never been asked for the keychain password before. I've tried every password I can think of and nothing works. I'm normally asked for the password to my machine when upgrading software, signing on, etc. but this is different apparently. I tried the same password and it didn't work either. I read a couple of posts and they all want to take me through Applications/Utilities but that requires knowing your password in order to change it. I don't know it. Don't remember ever setting up a keychain password. Does anyone know how to change the keychain password if you don't know the keychain password???

Most of the time your Keychain password is the same as your login password. If you configured your computer to log you in automatically, you may not have used your login password in so long you forgot it.
There is no way to retrieve the "login" Keychain password, but you can reset the Keychain from the Preferences menu: select it in the Keychain Access menu and select "Reset My Default Keychain". This will create a new, empty Keychain but the old one will be saved should you ever remember its password.
The result of this is that you will have to supply passwords for everything that requires it, since without your Keychain they will no longer automatically fill themselves. However, once you supply them and store them in your new Keychain, they will be remembered.

  • Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them

Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them.  What can I do?

Try the advice here. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
You have to delete the "SC Info" folder from /Users/Shared. You will have to use Terminal to enable you to see this folder first. Make sure iTunes is not running when you delete the "SC Info" folder
There is an article from Apple on this here. The "SC Info" folder contains iTunes authorization information.
I did this two weeks ago and iTunes accepted by login. I haven't been asked for my AppleID or password since.

You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/resync your content to it

  • System Keychain asks for separate (unknown) keychain password

Okay-- so I'm not alone with this problem-- but here goes, so "listen" close.
In the keychain panel, there's three keychains:
    System,
    and X509Anchors.
All three unlock when I type in my system password.
Login also shows all password requests when I type in said system password.
X509 has nothing in it, so it doesn't matter.
SYSTEM however keeps asking for keychain password that is not the same as the system password.
Now before you say "try the first aid preferences and then try the first aid panel", I already have. No option in the F.A. preference panel resets, changes, or turns whatever magical password it is into my system password.
No combination of said options does either. I've tried it all.
It also bears mentioning that when you highlight the System keychain, in the Edit menu the option to change the password and the settings is grayed out, untouchable.
So, tell me: is there a default password or is there a way I can reset it without needing to wipe out an entire set of passwords? The odd thing is I used to be able to see said passwords (usually just my wi-fi pw's), but now I get this secondary password that I have no idea what it is. Even if I could (but don't want to since I have a ton of wireless passwords saved on it), I couldn't delete the chain-- the option simply isn't allowed.
Finally, I'd just like to mention that to the best of my knowledge, this computer has had the exact same system password since the very day I turned it on 5 years ago when I got it factory delivered.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Now before you say "try the first aid preferences and then try the first aid panel", I already have. No option in the F.A. preference panel resets, changes, or turns whatever magical password it is into my system password.
Does that mean youused Keychain First Aid under the Window menu item?
    Does any of this apply...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1631
    http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-mac-os-x-keychain-password.shtml
I was thinking perhaps that if you change your account password using Accounts preferences, it might toggle something, even if you change it to the same one.
It also bears mentioning that when you highlight the System keychain, in the Edit menu the option to change the password and the settings is grayed out, untouchable.
In the Finder do a Get Info on...
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
Does it report Ownership & Privileges of...
    Owner = system = R&W
    Group = Admin = RO
    Others = RO

  • Why does the iTunes Store (iTunes 11.2) keep asking for my Apple ID password on launch?

    iTunes 11.2, Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.3
The iTunes Store keeps asking for Apple ID password on launch, and with every download, even when I am already logged in to the iTunes Store with my Apple ID. I am using iCloud, my iCloud account is set up on my iMac and I am using iCloud Keychain. My Apple ID password is stored in my Keychain. So why can't the iTunes Store remember me?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • What to do when your iPad keeps asking for the iTunes Store Password

I was using my iPad last night when it just started asking for my iTunes store password and I was browsing the web in safari. I just entered it and scratched my head. Later I was playing a game - the same prompt interrupted the game.
    http://skitch.com/mbrad/dru2p/full-screen
It happened about five times before I finally went to the settings app and signed out of the app store. I don't think it's related to any one app since the prompt was happening at seemingly random intervals no matter what I was doing (even on the home screen with no app "running")
Signing out seems to have corrected the problem. Apps still run and I will try signing in again later once I need to download anything. I haven't done much other than update 5 apps earlier in the day.
Does anyone else have experience on what caused this?
    Here's what it's not:
    1) Time - I checked the date/time on the iPad - they were within seconds of my mac which sets time automatically on the internet.
    2) Password wrong - I downloaded a free app from the store app on the device after entering the password - so the password was fine for a purchase/download after the prompt. (Yet the prompt came back again within 30 minutes)
    Thanks,
    Mike

Thanks for the suggestion! I did have two downloads for free songs I got from a card at Starbucks. They started but never came on my iPad (and that was 4 days ago). The store error is happening only yesterday - possible but a long time after the "failed download". I just got those songs after your suggestion on my mac by checking for available downloads. Maybe that was the root cause?
Add rebooting to "here's what it's not" - I forgot to write that down. Also - I was not interested in restoring the iPad - like taking a firehose to water a flower, that certainly would fix it at cost of overkill. (and maybe only until the backup was restored if the file causing the issue is something that would be backed up).
The problem seems to be that the device either doesn't save the password or something is causing it to be periodically marked as bad. Both ideas have me scratching my head. Rebooting didn't resolve the issue - only signing out from the store.

  • TS4002 icloud keeps asking for me enter my password, when i do...it asks again and again..

icloud mail keeps asking me to enter my password over and over...very frustrating.

    Here is the fix:
    1. Shut down Mail.  Next, deselect "iCloud Mail" in the iCloud preferences pane in System Preferences FIRST.  If not, it will automatically pre-populate the wrong p9X.mail.me.com server names again overwriting all your work.
    2. Now restart Mail and go to preferences.  If "iCloud" mail is still showing, select it and click on the "-" at the bottom to remove it.
    3. Now follow the instructions here: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html (disregard that this is for Snow Leopard, it DOES work on Lion) paying attention to the use of the "option" key when needed to avoid Mail automatically "creating" the account and closing out the preferences window.
    4. Ensure the correct server names of "imap.mail.me.com and smtp.mail.me.com" are still there and close Mail preferences and now select "get mail".  It may prompt one last time for your iCloud password, enter it and you are done.
    Good Luck.
