Safari Keeps Losing all my Cookies

It seems that when I log out (maybe not, could be totally random) I lose all my Safari cookies. This is starting to get on my nerves, and seems to have started after installing 10.5.1. Has anybody else experienced this and have a fix?
--Thanks.

Either you are or you aren't. Which is it? What's giving you that idea? What do you have set under Safari->Preferences->Security->Cookies?

  • Safari is losing it's cookies.  Again.  Or Still.

I've spent countless hours trying to debug our helpdesk software, only to finally reach the conclusion that Safari was simply losing it's cookies.  Then I found a thread here, "Safari keeps logging me out..." and see that I'm hardly alone.  I added to that (old) thread and it was recommended that I start the discussion again here.
The symptom is I log into the helpdesk.  Some period of time later ranging from hours to days, I get an invalid login error (note that this is a web page that automatically refreshes every five minutes).  Tracing the helpdesk code when this happens, I see that it has reached a point where it can find no valid authentication method, including cookies.  In other words, it wasn't presented any cookies.  I've debugged the helpdesk code that sets the cookies, and it only runs when it's supposed to, on initial login.  The session id is still active in the helpdesk database.  The software isn't unsetting these cookies.
The cookies disappear from the Show Cookies list in Preferences.  They disappear from the Cookies.plist file.  Other cookies which are older and expire sooner are not being deleted, so this doesn't look like some kind of house cleaning thing.
Based on the previous discussions, a lot of people seem to think this has something to do with size or number of cookies.  I'm setting two cookies, which Web Inspector lists as 51 and 19 bytes respectively.  There are two other active cookies for this web page, set by some other application with a more global domain name (e.g. I'm using helpdesk.foo.edu, and these cookies are for .foo.edu).  The other two cookies list as 60 and 347 bytes.  I'm hardly hitting any limits here.  Overall there are about 30 cookies generally within the foo.edu domain, but most of these are limited to other subdomains.
One bit of weirdness here though, is that Web Inspector says "4 cookies (13.51KB)".  Even in the long form storage in Cookies.plist, these four cookies only use about 2K, so maybe this is one big hint.
Here's a laundry list of other related facts:
The cookies in question are set to expire in one year
No one else here seems to be having this problem.  Everyone else is on Linux.
    Currently: Safary 5.0.5, OSX 10.6.7.
Problem existed on earlier versions of both Safari and OS X (but maybe only Snow Leopard?)
    No Safari extensions installed.
    Cookies.plist is around 4.5 MB
My home is an NFS home directory
I'm usually running next to nothing: Safari, Thunderbird, Terminal, X11
Cookies can get lost at any time - when I'm actively browsing elsewhere, or when I've been away from the desk for hours.
I don't see this anywhere else, but every other site I can think of either I use very short sessions (15 minutes, like banking or something), or I'm using session cookies (e.g. Twitter I don't ask it to remember my login).

So yes, just now I had some cookies vanish again.  But in this case, I wasn't even using the web pages (or website) where the cookies are stored (I didn't have the auto-reloading helpdesk page open).
I left a script running which was watching my ~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist file, and would send me a text message if the helpdesk cookies disappeared.
I sat down at the computer which hadn't been used in a day, and reloaded a twitter page.  Followed by a text message that my helpdesk cookies had disappeared.  The cookies were set to expire August 18th 2012.  Many of the cookies in my 4.5 MB Cookies.plist are much older cookies, set to expire much sooner than that.
So it is absolutely 100% verified that Safari is dropping cookies which are not set to expire, and are not even involved in current web activity.

  • Safari keeps losing some of my tabs?

I usually have several tabs open in Safari. Sometimes when I reopen safari, it only opens 1 or 2 of my tabs, and then I have to dig through my history to find the other pages. This is at least the 3rd time this has happened and I'm getting sick of it. Is there a reason why this is happening? Would exiting instead of just clicking the red X fix the problem?

OK, I got it to work again - but not sure what did it ...
First I did the software update to Safari 6.0 [the one with the ugly broad Tabs  :-(  ]. However, I don't thnk it was this, as opening it I lost again 6 Tabs (one gets empty Tabs, just their title is left).
So I looked for more advanced cleanup and came across one posting
"When things go haywire with a browser, try maintenance...", of Carolyn Samit, see https://discussions.apple.com/message/11014741#11014741
There are quite a few things to do (empty the cache {in Safari 6.0 you need to switch on the 'Develop' menue to do so}, Reset Safari {as to Carolyn take the top five}, then checked plugins/input managers {don't have many of them, but tried to reload all the ones I could figure out how to get updates, and deleted the remainder - including one Adobe file needed for a old version of Flash which, as to others, was obsolete and may even slow Safari}, all accoprding to the http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594 link.
Then deleted the Cookies.plist file, the Cache.db file, the preference files, ...
    {com.apple.Safari.plist, com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.binarycookies, Cookies.binarycookies, History.plist, http_www.ebay.de_0.localstorage {there might be more like this}, LastSession.plist, LocationPermissions.plist, WebpageIcons.db},
then restarted my Mac. Restarted again, then started Safari (you'll end up on the Apple site as if it"s the first time running). Collected my windows and Tabs - and finally quit and relaunched, then Reopened all Windows from Last Session - what a surprise, the Tabs were all filled!!!
    So happy now ...
    Cheers, jk

  • Keep losing all bookmarks

I bought an iPad last week & when I started using safari, I suddenly lost ALL my bookmarks in both my computers & my iPad. I put them back in & cannot keep them. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I am having the same issues. I was just about to turn off the MobileMe sync, thinking that was the problem, but then I remembered you can turn off the bookmarks sync in the info section under "Other". But the weird thing is when you sync, even though you've turned it off, it turns itself back on.
    Needs a fix I think.

  • Why is my ipad suggesting bookmarks from my iPhone? I turned off iCloud safari and deleted all history, cookies.

I keep getting suggestions when I type a URL in safari and they are bookmarks synced to my iPhone. I did sync these bookmarks at one point to my iPad over iCloud, but since have deleted all bookmarks, cleared cache and history, turned off safari sync in iCloud between devices, turned off my iPad as well as removed safari from the multi tasking bar and I still can't figure out why these suggestions keep turning up when I type a URL. Does anyone have this problem as well, is there anyone with a solution? I turned off all safari syncing on iCloud on all of my devices as well. I have an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2 iPad 4 iOS 6.0.1. Thank you Apple community for devoting you're knowledge and time to us Apple users in need of assistance. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help. If there is such a thing in this situation.

Have you poked around in the settings? there are a lot of things defaulted to on that you may not need, such as background app updates, background app refresh and notifications.

  • Help keep losing all apps on my iPad hd

Guys please help this is the third time I have to restore all my apps and frankly this is annoying I had the 3G have the 4 and 4s but I never experienced this with them, is this a firmware issue or something? Please note I lose my apps like poof! I was just browsing through my apps then it went back to the main apps only that they were factory apps nothing else no more columns. Another thing is that my iPad hd somewhat crashes a lot my only solution is restarting the unit...this has not been dropped and is 1 month old I bought it brand new. Thanks in advance!

I have no idea what columns you are referring to on the iPad. I don't have a columns view and I never heard of one either. If you are actually losing apps off of the device - and the iPad is only one month old - make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar - let them have a look - or ask for a replacement.
Apps do not just disappear off of the iPad.

  • Safari keeps losing preferences

This has been happening for a few months now, cannot remember after which "upgrade". Extremely annoying.
I don't want the Apple page to be my startup page, I do not want the default settings.
I have mentioned the problem to Apple a few times as bug report but nothing has happened. Reading the other posts on this subject it seems there is no cure. Other people are worse off as they have many crashes as well. Safari rarely crashes on me - only sometimes when there are movies/flv files involved.
So I am moving to Firefox (reluctantly) until there is a fix.

So I am moving to Firefox (reluctantly) until there is a fix.
That's not going to help you at all. There is no fix because there is no bug to fix here.
Why don't you just delete your Safari preferences, then restart Safari and recreate your preference settings? That would ensure you don't have a corrupted preferences file, which is what causes this.

  • Safari keeps losing Internet connection.

MBPr, 10.8.2, all other devices on the wifi network run fine, other software on MBP are actively connected to the net and wifi connection still showing as connected..it is just safari.
Reconnecting to network shows no love, have to restart computer to get working safari for less than ten minutes then same problem comes back.
Any help or similar problems appreciated.
Oh this has only started since I upgraded to 10.8.2....

I just tried resetting safari, this allowed me to successfully load one page, and then it went back to being unable to load again..

  • Keep losing all service, and phone restarts on it's own

So...my Razr maxx kept restarting on it's own after only being on for about 30 seconds and it also was receiving no signal. I did all the troubleshooting tools and nothing seemed to be able to fix it. So i successfully traded it in for a refurbished Razr with a new SIM card. I was able to set it up just fine last night and had no problems with it. However today while at work it just quit receiving a signal. It also has restarted itself multiple times. Seems like the same issue except on a smaller scale. It gets intermittent service and has only restarted itself a couple times. I went through all the settings and everything seems fine. The only thing i can think is that there might be a virus on my microSD card that's causing my phones to act like this. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Of course Verizon support will just tell me like they tried last time that their working on the towers right now. I don't know if they'll let me get another replacement. I think you only get one every 6 months with insurance. Please help.

My Razr Maxx was doing the same thing. Now it appears to be booting (constantly), but never actually boots. I can not even turn it off now. The only way it turns off is to let the battery die.
I've tried all the recommended fixes. In my research, this is a common problem with these phones. The only solution seems to be a new phone. These phones are too expensive to need replacing so often. Hmm...who does that benefit?
I've lost all interest in owning another Motorola. I'm seriously considering changing providers, as well.

  • Just recently I keep losing all my notes even though backed unto thje iCloud is this aprblem with the latest update to IOS 7.11?

In the last week I have now lost my notes back to a blank set, the trouble is it syncs & I lose it on every device.  I have now switched on to only sync withe the computer so it doesnt happen again then change each note & allow it to sync to cloud so they get them back.
    Anyone else expriencing this?

After some troubleshooting, I decided to order a new battery.  I replaced the battery and was then able to get it to restore, however--after I restore it and it comes time to restart the phone, it gets stuck and doesn't turn on.
Sorry, your repair ruined the iPhone.
She does not have apple care and even though she loved this device, she isn't going to buy another iPhone because of all the problems shes had with this one (it's just over a year old).
After you ruined the iPhone with DIY, Apple won't touch it anymore. You should have asked before all these had happened.
I'm an android user myself and I love rooting/flashing new ROMS, so if jailbreaking her phone or doing some kind of super-restore with 3rd party programs might help, I'm all for it-
Yeah, all Android user can think of is Jailbreaking, read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

    ~/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db
Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash.
Now type or copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

  • Why do i keep losing all the addresses in my address book. happened about 3 times already

had a problem with my computer and when I got it back and my emails I had nothing in my address book.

When you connect for the first time and the computer is blank, the computer will erase the contents and replace with what is on the computer. If you have unique contacts on the computer, then you will have the option to merge.
After this, then it will sync - meaning both ways. The newest info will be on both computer and iphone.
The iphone is not a stand alone device - it is meant to be used with your computer. When you change computers, it is a good idea to move all of the info from your old computer ( or your back up info) to your new computer, then sync. This way all of the info is on the computer when you first sync.
The iphone is not intended to be a back up device.

  • Help! My IPod Mini keeps losing all the songs I put on it!

A while ago I noticed that the battery life of my IPod mini(original) was getting shorter, however didnt really mind because I didnt use it that often. However I updated it with the new ipod software that my itunes suggested when I plugged it in to my computer. However since then its been going crazy. It wont play anything and just switches back to the apple sign. So I restored it using the ipod updater but it still has the same problem. Ill leave it to update, then it will list everything on it, but once I select something to play it turns it self off. Then once I manage to turn it back on again all the titles are gone. Have tried all the steps on the support page, really dont know what to do with it now!

"Have tried all the steps on the support page, really dont know what to do with it now!"
Have you considered that it may need battery replacement, especially since you said battery life was getting noticeably shorter? Is it still under warranty?
If not, Google "ipod batteries" for alternatives to Apple.
If you want to use Apple, they do an out of warranty battery replacement programme.

  • My Iphone (4) rings ..but keeps losing all other tones (mesage mail etc) ..., My Iphone (4) rings ..but keeps losing all other tones (mesage mail etc) ..., My Iphone (4) rings ..but keeps losing all other tones (mesage mail etc) ...

Can anyone help. My Iphone 4 (9 months old) rings ok, but 3 time in the last weekend the tones have just stopped working. when I notice it and check a fewq settings ..nothing has changed. 3 times when I have connected to 'itunes' on my macbook ..the tones have 'come back' ... any one help please?

OK I have found the answer, and NO thanks to Apple support!!! who had me running in circles around the website support rubbish, denying my guarantee (after recognising my serial number by the way) and telling me my phone number (in Hanoi) is NOT valid. disapointing APPLE ..... its the first time I have ever said that!
The solution is very simple - clean your docking port with a toothbrush!!! it is simply a matter of dirt and foreign objects getting into the port and fooling the phone into 'thinking it is docked' ....
Get a grip Apple support I should not have to find this out from strangers ......
