Safari Keychain Error

Periodically I get an error in safari saying that "A keychain cannot be found to store 'Safari.'" Not sure why I am getting it or how I can fix it, any suggestions.

HI,
Sounds like your Keychain preference files are corrupted. Locate this file:
com.apple.keychainaccess.plist /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from your Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.
If that doesn't help...
1) Quit Safari
2) Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities) Find the "Safari AutoFill" item. Delete it.
3) Relaunch Safari. Next time it asks for authorization, click "Always Allow".

  • Safari Keychain error after installing Office 2008 for Macs

I installed Office 2008 for Macs this morning. It then checked for updates to download, found a couple of big ones, and they were downloaded.
Since then, when in Safari, I keep getting a message saying something like "A keychain cannot be found for Safari" with 2 options: Cancel or Return to Default. Neither one changes anything.
I use only web-based email (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) so this is a major annoyance for me.
From Office 2008 for Macs, I really only need to use Word & Excel, so I would like to uninstall Entourage, Messenger and probably PowerPoint as well. However, at this point I'm, afraid to do anything else. (Also, i thought it was strange I didn't have a chance to pick w/ Office products to install.)
Any ideas on how to get rid of this Keychain message in Safari?
    MTIA!

Follow Up: A few days later, there was a Apple software update. After it was installed, the keychain error message went away.
The keychain error was so annoying, I had decided not to install Office for Macs on my iMac, but since there's no longer a problem on my MacBook, I will probably go ahead and put it on the iMac.

  • The latest osx update has caused keychain errors on my macbook pro...what should I do?

I downloaded and installed the latest osx update last night (10.9.2) and now I'm getting login errors when trying to download emails and keychain errors when using Google Chrome or Safari. I have no idea how to solve the problems caused by this update. My macbook pro is older - 2008. Help, please? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I should have clarified above....."keychain errors", not just login errors. Thanks again.

  • DIfferent Keychain Error - pls advise

First, I've searched for my keychain error, and cannot find any post dealing with it.
I've upgraded to Leopard on both my G4 powerbook and my new iMac. Both have the same error.
When I go to a website and enter a password, I get the typical "would you like to save this password" popup. If I select YES, I get:
"Keychain [insert name of keychain here] cannot be found to store [login name] your keychain may have been renamed, deleted, or its on an unmounted volume."
This gives me 2 options to select: Cancel or Reset to Defaults.
I just ran the Keychain First Aid, got errors, tried to repair them and ran another test. This is the result:
    Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for [redacted] (user ID=501)
    Home directory is /Users/[redacted]
    Checked login keychain
    Checked default keychain
Warning: keychain ~/Library/Keychains/[redacted] is missing the .keychain extension
    Checked keychain search list
Keychain ~/Library/Keychains/[redacted].keychain could not be found
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/MicrosoftIntermediateCertificates
Problems were found; you should choose the Repair option to fix them
    Verification failed
Now, I did (at one point) select "reset to defaults". However, that hasn't helped apparently.
    Thoughts?
    This is really annoying.
    Thanks.
    Robert
Leopard Annoyances: Deleted printers, changed desktops, lost keychain, slower Safari, etc. Now why did I upgrade?

Nope. I went into the keychain library, duplicated the login.keychain file and renamed it with my login name.keychain.
Then in the keychain utility, I can see that (icon as well) and it contains all my login info as does the login.keychain keychain.
However, after a restart, I still get the same error message from my first post.
Running the repair utility shows that your fix (basically what I did) fixed ONE of the 2 errors:
    Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for [redacted] (user ID=501)
    Home directory is /Users/[redacted]
    Checked login keychain
    Checked default keychain
Warning: keychain ~/Library/Keychains/[redacted] is missing the .keychain extension
    Checked keychain search list
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/MicrosoftIntermediateCertificates
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/[redacted].keychain
    Verification completed
so I'm still missing the .keychain extension....
    Thoughts anyone?

  • Keychain error -25299 when trying to access Time Machine

I am in the process of migrating to a new iMac and am having trouble getting Time Machine to work on my Time Capsule. It was working fine with my old iMac and it still works fine with my Macbook but when I try to access it on the new machine I am asked for the Time Machine password and the I get the message: "Keychain error -25299 occurred while creating a System Keychain entry for the username "XXXXX XXXX" and URL "XXXXXXX"
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

This is a Time Capsule problem, not Time Machine itself.
It sounds like you need to set up a new password for your TC, or use the one from your old Mac.
You might do better in the Time Capsule forum, as many of us here (including me) aren't very familiar with TCs.
The TC forum is hiding in the Digital Life section, and is at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1253

  • Keychain error while setting up Time Machine

I'm trying to back up my computer onto a time capsule using time machine. When I try to configure a back up disk, it prompts me for my time capsule password. After entering the correct password, it displays the following error message: Keychain error -25299 occurred while creating a System Keychain entry for the username “<USERNAME>” and URL “<LOCATION OF BACK UP DISK>”. I have verified and repaired the Keychain Access, and no errors were found.

I had the same problem. WD does indeed support Time Machine set up on the WD World.
The acrobat file walking you through the 15 second set up [hurrah] can be found here: http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=mbworld [click on the user guide link to download].
My problem was that I was trying to login using my user name rather than the wd_backup that is required via Time Machine.... did not read the set up instructions very carefully.

  • Keychain error when trying to start backup on time machine

I have not been able to get my time machine working. It appears to be set up but when I put my password in it says there is a keychain error -25299. I have tried repair, restart keychain back to factory setting. Does anyone have answers? Thanks

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Safari Keychain Password

    Hello,
    My k0mp00ter skillz arent goodly.
I'm migrating over from IE to Safari, and everytime I look up, there's a pop up, asking for my keychain password. Well, I have no clue WTH it is. I dont ever remember messing with Safari to make a password. As of right now, Safari is letting me do whatever I need, but that **** pop up is annoying.
Is there a way to reset my Safari Keychain thingie, so I know for sure what my password is? Is there a way I can go digging in Macintosh HD to find the password. Should I shoot my Mac?
    Regards,
    Brian

    Hi Oly
did you do this, from the helper in keychainaccess
2nd option for safari keychain autofill:
    ( Deleting a keychain
If your keychain has become inaccessible for some reason (for example, if you've forgotten the password), you can delete it and manually create a new keychain.
When you delete the keychain, you have two options:
    ▪ Delete References removes the keychain from the keychain list but does not remove the keychain file from your disk. If you remember your password later, you can recover the items stored in the keychain by choosing File > Add Keychain and opening this file.
➔ ▪ Delete References & Files removes the keychain from the keychain
list and removes the file from your disk. You might choose this if the
file is corrupted or damaged in some way and you don't want to recover it
    1) Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities.
    2) Click Show Keychains if the keychain drawer is closed, then select the keychain you want to delete.
    3) Choose File > Delete "keychain" (the command will show the name of the selected keychain).
    4) Click Delete References or Delete References & Files. )
Also what happens if you Un-check "Autofill items in Safari preferences?
i have it off on both 10.3.9 & Tiger 10.4.4 on power book.
    let us know, Eme

    Hi,
Go to /Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file to the Trash. Restart your Mac.
    Now try Software Updates.
If the same error appears, try the suggestion at this link by :

  • Can connect to ftp - password wont be stored and keychain error message

    Hey there,
I was trying to hook up my ftp with fcs and in my admin window where I am entering the device info the password always disappears after saving the changes. Then when i try to enter the device via the device window it gives me an error: Password not retrieved from keychain: get from keychain error: The specified item could not be found in the keychain.(-25300)
Can anyone help me out with that?
    cheers

Network devices must be added via the System Preferences pane. The Java admin panel will always error out like that when you attept to create a device that requires authentication credentials.

  • Restore Safari Keychain data after Remove All

Restore Safari Keychain data after Remove All
I mistakenly removed all Safari Keychain data, which, of course, also removed the data from my iOS devices.  I attempted a restore with a "Keychain" folder.  It's on my desktop, but I'm not sure what to do with it or if it's even the right data.  Can anyone help with how to restore keychain with Mozy?  Thanks!!

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the AutoFill tab.
    Select:  User names and passwords
Visit a website. Enter the login data. You will be prompted tos save that data to a new keychain.
Restore...  as I mentioned previously, Mozy is not compatible with Keychain Access. There is no way to restore with Mozy.
In the future, you may want to use iCloud  Keycahin to store login data.
Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.

  • Keychain error preventing iTunes access

I am running iTunes 7.02 on a Mac G5 (OS 10.3.9). I can go to the iTunes store, but anytime I try to login I get a keychain error. I have run the keychain repair as suggested 5 times. I have even reset my keychain. This problem occured when I downloaded and installed iTunes 7. It never happened before and I have no other Keychain issues with other programs. Any suggestions?

I "repaired" and "reset" my keychain by going to the Utilities folder and opening the Kechain Access. Run Keychain First Aid under the Window menu. None of this worked. Let me know if you find anything out.
Did you say you called Apple Care? I am going to try that tomorrow.
