Safari killed iPsec driver
I installed the Safari beta on my Mac. After the reboot i wasnt able to connect via my VPN-Client.
It logs:
Function DeviceIoControl failed and
Failed to initialise ipsec driver.
I tried:
- removing the Safari beta
- repairing Rights
- reinstalling the VPN-Client
Nothing helped.
Any Ideas, anyone?
Greets Bernd (Germany).
Hi Jon,
I guess noone knows the answer, I certainly don't I'm afraid.
Since your site works correctly in the latest builds of WebKit the odds are it's simply a bug in Safari.
Hopefully the next non-security related update will include the fix.

Internet doesn't work with Killer Ethernet driver installed! PLEASE HELP!
Hi guys,
First of all I might as well start off by saying that I recently upgraded my system to a new build, and so bought some new parts. The motherboard I chose was a MSI z87 gd65 gaming and by gosh is it good to look at, my only problem is that when I install the driver of the disc is that the Killer Ethernet driver doesn't allow me to get internet access (but I am connected to my router).
I have reset windows, reinstalled the driver, restarted my pc, made the bios default and it still persists not to work! I am not sure if it doesn't won't to work with windows 8 because I had to boot from the installation cd. I can't update to windows 8.1 either because I don't have the internet connect/access Nd I can't get another driver because of the same reason!
Has anyone else come across this issue?Remove Killer driver and suite using >>Killer Cleaner<<. After reboot just install pure drivers: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174229.0

Cordialement,

Is this normal? Every time I launch Safari my hard drive starts to be noisy. It's this usual hard drive clicking but it's really fast and noisy clicking. What's worse that it takes few minutes. It's really annoying in quiet room. It looks like hard drive try to read some data for using Safari. I cleaned everything I can using MainMenu app - cache, history, temporary files. Nothing happened. I use MBP 2,2GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD - late 2007.
Have you got the same problem or know reason and solution?
Really thank youHi, sorry for late response. Yes, it still does the weird ticking noises. I tried to reinstall operating system and not just Safari and it still does that. I was talking to my colleagues (they're hard drive specialists) and first time they told me that my HDD is going to crash any day soon. Then I told them that the HDD is doing it for several months. They were confused. They told me cause of this noises is that HDD is writing and reading from multiple sectors of the disk.
So, my HDD still does it and I got used to it. What about yours HDD? -

MacPro keeps killing hard drives!
Hi all,
I had a search on here beforehand to see if anyone else has had this issue. I couldn't find a close match, but my apologies if I missed one.
I have an early model Mac Pro (v1.1) and last week the original hard drive (a good 6 years old) suddenly died. It was without any warning as previously the computer had been working fine. The only problem I noticed was immediately before the drive died, Firefox locked up my Mac to the point where I had to do a hard reset. When I turned the Mac back on, it would hang at the Blue screen with a spinning beachball.
I booted from the Snow Leopard install disk and did a HDD repair, where I learnt the drive was dead.
Promptly I bought a brand spanking new WD 1TB HDD, and reinstalled everything. I then tried to use a data recovery app (Disk Driller) to copy what it could off the old HDD, which was running off one of the internal SATA conenctions. This seemed to cause problems again, locking up the computer and so forth, to the point where again I had to reinstall Snow Leopard.
Now, I have the original dead 250gb HDD in an external case, attempting a restore by backing it up as a DMG to the new HDD. AGAIN, this froze over night while it was doing it's thing. Ordinarily I'd give up, but there was 30gb of photos on this drive as well as old work I wanted to keep.
SO: Now it appears my new HDD is dead.
I don't know that I've explained this very well, but here's my question. Is it possible there is something in my MacPro (software -- I'm looking at you Disk Driller!) or otherwise that is killing my HDDs?
The first HDD was getting on, so I can see how that could have died (although, it was suspiciously sudden). However, my new HDD is now only FOUR DAYS OLD and when I run Disk Utility from my install disk, it warns that the HDD has failed and to back up what I can.
Appreciate any help I can get!
DaveAHT does not necessarily mean that a test with no error reported is a clean bill of health.
If you have a system drive that is corrupted directory it WILL or can block booting - from any device, even from DVDs.
External is fine, turn it on after boot. Turn it on after Disk Warrior is running.
And my lecture point: always have bootable backup clones and even if it was owrking it was old slow and out of warranty and your new WD Black 1TB is much faster. But then buy a data drive, one for backup too.
You should never need to reinstall an OS other than when a new OS to start clean (and use Setup Assist to import your old apps).
So play with just the new drive and leave the other to rest.
Do NOT copy data or recvover to your good drive.
Need a recovery drive for that.
you don't need to use a sparse disk image.
Most people try Data Rescue 3 demo to see if it will read and chance to recovery before buying $99.
Use Carbon Copy Cloner to make copies of your drives and be able to boot from.

Wireless Killer n1525 driver ath10k
Hello,
I bought a new laptop last week, and has for wireless card killer n1525. After some research I found out that this card has this chipset
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Qualcomm_Athe … ss-AC_1525
WI1 chip1: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174
and I need the new ath10k driver which will be part of the new kernel 3.20 (or 4.0).
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use … ers/ath10k
2015-01-27 QCA6174 support added, will be in 3.20.
So, I was thinking that either I can install the latest ath10k from git using
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use … /backports
and
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use … k/firmware
or
uncomment testing core and do a full upgrade to kernel 4.0 from the testing repos.
However, I read somewhere that there were some problems with the nvidia proprietary drivers.
Since, both are pretty new for me, ( I have installed arch linux in two laptops and one desktop, however I had no similar problems), which option do you suggest me to follow?
Furthermore, I installed plasma desktop ("kde 5") and I had a problem opening the desktop (startx etc.) (is called x-server right?). I tested with xorg and had no problem, and as I read I have to properly configure the drivers for nvidia and intel and bumblebee (optimus). So, if I eventually upgrade to core testing and kernel 4.0, should I properly configure the gpu drivers, or first upgrade and then install/configure the drivers?
Thank you very much
P.S. I hope this was the right place to post thisHi,
the n1525 does not work even with latest kernel (4.0.5) and firmware from win8 drivers. Only way at this point of time is to build custom kernel and then use the firmware.
As for the X - this is usually started automatically - like if you use sddm login manager.
As for the nvidia+intel I personally do not recommend optimus due to its poor performance. I have nvidia gtx980m and the difference is beyond bearable. Try running separate X with nvidia (more info in my thread) - scripts are here
I didnt create a AUR package for it yet but if there would be someone wanting it i will. -
An alternative to the buggy e2200 Killer Ethernet Driver/Software (GE60)
After several crashes related to the bad Bigfoot Killer Ethernet software and driver, I decided to dig a little deeper.
Most people will be able to tell you that the "Killer Ethernet" is fairy pointless, I didn't buy the laptop for it at any rate.
It's worse than pointless when it causes system instability and crashes.
After a little research I determined that the "Qualcomm Atheros llama Ke2200 Series PCI-E Ethernet Controller" is actually a "Qualcomm Atheros AR813X/AR815X/816X Series PCI-E Ethernet Controller"
Specifically it's a slightly modified AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet [1969:1091].
As such you can download newer, unmodified drivers from Atheros directly, just google for: atheros+download and visit the first link.
On the Atheros site under "AR816X Family Drivers" choose the "WIN_AR816X" option from the dropdown box.
However, the vendor and device ID won't match, so you'll need to do the following to install it.
Keep in mind that these are raw drivers, they're work perfectly, but include none of the fancy (useless) "Killer" software features.
Lets get started!
Download the file above and extract it to a temporary location.
First, (because removing the killer Ethernet software is part of the goal here) you should go to control panel and uninstall the existing bigfoot killer Ethernet package from "Programs and Features".
1) Head to control panel and open "Device Manager".
2) Under "Network Adapters" right click on the e2200 Killer network card and choose "Update Driver Software".
3) Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
4) Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
5) Click "Have Disk".
6) Click "Browse"
7) Find the folder you extracted and navigate to "AR813x_AR815x_AR816x_v2.1.0.15_WHQL\Common_Dri\Win8_64"
8) Select "L1C63x64.inf" and click Open, then OK.
9) From the list of drivers choose "Qualcomm Atheros 8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)"
10) Choose "Yes".
11) Now choose "Close".
In Control Panel your network card will now be called "Qualcomm Atheros 8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)"
You're now running the latest Atheros driver for your rebranded Atheros AR8161 Ethernet Card.Quote from: mish on 10-April-13, 17:48:06

How do I re-install Safari adobe flash drive?
How do I re-install the adobe flash drive? We have had it for years and now it is gone. Message says "missing plug in". We have tried to un-install the old one and re-install the new one for the past many months. Our computer is a Mac, OSX, version 10.5.8, safari. Everything else works great on the computer.
Depends on what Mac you have:
You can check here what version of Flash player you actually have installed: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
* Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work. -
My iPhone 5 did this every now and then if my phone was sitting on my MacBook Pro, on top of hard drive area, and received a call or text. Now my iPhone 5s, with newly updated firmware, keeps killing my hard drive if it is within a foot of my laptop. Does anyone know why? And how to prevent this. This is absolutely frustrating. I have to keep turning my MacBook back on and loose everything I'm working on. I have owned every iPhone and am now starting to consider venturing out because this is rediculous!
I see, well your post is in the macbook Air forum.
It still nevertheless wouldnt be your HD, as I have well over 100 HD, theres never been a report in any mention in history in recollection of cellphone EMI or RFI causing shutdown of same.
I can output 50 full watts of power from UHF and not affect a HD operation (this has been tested actually).
cellphones put out absolutely nothing even CLOSE to this level.
It would have to be another component in your macbook Pro. There can only be a faulty RFI sensitive (since you now mention talking on your phone) component on the logic board.
However even at typical peak your phone is only putting out about 200mw to 250mw of power, which is almost nothing. -
I have started to use Safari more in Leopard than I ever did before. I started to realize that every time I visit a page or go back to a previous page the hard drive on my iBook is accessed for several seconds.
Performing the same operation with Firefox does not result in this same drive access.
I tried to find some type of option in Safari about cache size or location but couldn't find anything. A search didn't turn up any posts here on this subject either.
Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions for a solution?Hi Duane,
The cache folders are located here in Tiger:
/Users/YourUsername/Library/Caches/Safari/
I hope they're in the same location on Leopard and if they are try trashing them.
Maybe they're some corruption in the cached data that is causing Safari to reload the cache files over and over.
How's your memory looking at the moment as well? Is there some free or has the system started paging a bit more as well?
Edit: This [article|http://mactechnotes.blogspot.com/2005/10/controlling-webkit-and-safari -through.html] also lists some 'defaults' settings in WebKit that you could try tweaking. The article is a couple of years old though, so I'm not sure if all those preferences still exist in the version shipped with Leopard. -
Safari is periodically churning my hard drive every couple of seconds. It causes a pause with the spinning beach ball in most apps. I've switched to Firefox for now because I couldn't track down the cause. Has anyone else come up against this issue? I've seen a few postings on the Web, but no answers that applied.
I tried it, but same problem. It's not really churning. There's still periodic disk access that slows everything down. No problem with Firefox.

Z97 Gaming 5 Sumbus driver and Killer Nic Driver?
After having installed my Msi MB Z97 in the device manager their is the "Smbus" not having a driver. Now I know that usually intels inf drivers come into play here. But after installing them its still in the unknown device category. I went to MSI's website and the inf drivers on their are the same as intel's site. Is this just a case of the drivers aren't out yet or am I missing something. Also is their just a driver for the Killer Nic without all the software that it installs? Just a basic driver for internet...
Thanks>>Posting Guide<<
every time I have seen that message its either a Missing Chipset or Graphics Driver for the computer! have you installed the Chipset drivers and Graphics Drivers? -
Hello,
I'm using Safari 4. When I open Safari for the first time on turning my Mac on, it runs for a very short while fine, then the hard drive starts crunching for a couple of minutes. Then it stops crunching and all is well again.
This doesn't happen when I turn my Mac on and open another browser -- just Safari.
Does anyone know what Safari's doing when it starts crunching and how I can stop it?
Thanks,
Jonathan. Thanks -- I've just disabled it to see if that stops the crunching. I'll let you know if it's successful.
What sort of websites does the feature warn against? I don't recall having ever seen a warning saying that a site I'm visiting or trying to visit is fraudulent. I tend to buy from a limited range of websites (train companies, amazon and a few shops I use).
If I don't particularly go beyond these sites, and turning the feature off prevents Safari from crunching, could I keep the feature off? Basically, what I'm trying to ask is: is it just about common sense over which websites you put payment details into, or does it do something more complicated?
Thanks,
Jonathan. -
Safari Killing My Internet Connection?
Ok, here is the background:
I usually run 2 internet browsers...Opera 9.26 is my primary browser, and I've been using Safari for items that Opera cannot correctly or sufficiently provide (usually Gmail, Facebook, CNN, and 1 or 2 other sites) I also run iChat and Colloquy as other internet-use apps.
For the past 1-2 weeks, Safari, I believe, has intermittently killed my internet connection. Usually it will be loading a local newspaper website or acting strangely on Facebook...then it will start to be very slow, the rainbow sphere will appear, and my internet will die...as in, nothing on Opera works, iChat disconnects, etc.
Today was exceptionally bad as it kept happening every few seconds. I had to switch to Camino for Gmail, Facebook, and CNN...and this resolved the problem.
Any idea at all? Is this happening to anyone else?Hi

DNS server codes seem to remedy the page loading lag. Follow these steps:
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
- Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
- Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use Ethernet or Airport (wireless) for your setup: Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
- Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, on separate lines in the DNS servers box enter Verizon's public DNS server codes: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.
Select "apply".
Restart Safari or Camino.
