Safari launching Reader? not Pro?

I have Leopard 10.5.6, with Safari and Acrobat 9 Pro installed.
In the Acrobat preferences, under Internet, it appears that Acrobat Pro is specified for PDFs
But when I click on a PDF link in the Safari browser it seems to fire READER in a browser window. I want to annotate the PDF and so I want the full Acrobat Pro to somehow launch.. either in a plug-in (in a Safari window), or separately.
If I click on a PDF on the desktop, then Acrobat pro launches with all the tool to annotate the PDF.
Is this correct?.. in that .. it appears that Safari is launching the reader and there is no way to change that?
Can Safari be configured to launch the full Acrobat Pro from within a browser window? or how can it be configured to launch the full Acrobat Pro as an independent app?

Phillip, I applaud your continued suggestions..
Holding down the left mouse button over a PDF link does nothing in Safari 4 and most recent Leopard.. It starts to launch something.. but doesn't finish the actual load until the mouse button is released.
The shubert PDF viewer is really nice.. and gave me some clues as to what to try..
It is likely as simple as this.. although I'll need to test on my office Mac where Adobe Acrobat is installed.
1. Acrobat, when it installed, changed the default PDF application to Acrobat .. If it didn't, it is easy to do this for ALL PDFs by using the GET INFO option of any one PDF.. You don't need to select multiple PDFs.
2. Simply remove the Adobe Viewer plug in from the /Library/Internet plug ins directory and restart Safari.
3. Click on a PDF and it views with the built in Safari viewer.. (I thought it was preview, but it wasn't)..
4. Hover the mouse over the bottom centre of the PDF window and a rectangular area appears with + and - zoom keys and a middle 'icon' that has hover text "open in preview".. However, this really opens the PDF in the default PDF viewer.. so if this is changed to Acrobat, I expect clicking this button will open the PDF in Acrobat.. as I want..
The Shubert viewer won't add any features better than the above; however it seems to work nicely.. although for me, it doesn't offer that much more than what I'd want from Preview..

I did this task already. This does not change the behaviour in Mail client, doing so if you duble clic a PDF it will be opened with Reader, this is good. But the mail attachments are opened with Pro

It semms unpossible to change this behaviour withou unistalling Pro. ...or I have to find the exact key in the regedit, but there are a lot of keys regarding Adobe and this task were a big risk....

Safari pdf reader not recognizing page numbers

Is there a way to code a link to a pdf so that Safari will open to a particular page within the pdf rather than to the front page?

I think I've discovered the problem, but I'm no expert, so you'd have to test it or apply your knowledge to determine if I'm correct. The Adobe document I liked to says that you must use the format
A HREF="http://www.example.com/myfile.pdf#page=4" (with < and > symbols at the beginning and end to enclose the link.)
for targeted links, and that you can't use "URLS containing local hard drive addresses (c:\folder\), then you cannot link to page numbers or set destinations."
The latter appears to be what you are doing; i.e., http://www.franciscan.edu/uploadedFiles/TopLevel/About/FactBook/FactBook.pdf#page=11
So if you were to change it to the former method, it should work.
As for testing, creating new User accounts is just like creating your own account initially: open system Preferences > Accounts and click on the "+" sign at the bottom left, give it a name and a password, then you can logout of the account you're in and into the new account for testing.

Why does Safari launch so slowly on my MacBook Pro?

Safari on my MacBook Pro 2012 has been acting a little strange since I bought it.
Launching the app takes quite some time (almost five or six bounces on the dock) on my Mac, but on display models in stores, Safari can launch instantly.
I thought this might have some relationship to a slow hard drive, so I bought an OCZ Agility 4 SSD to replace the old HDD.
The app still takes some time to launch, although a bit faster (4 or 5 bounces on the dock).
Then, recently my sister asked me to create an account for her to use.
On that second account, when I clicked on Safari, it could launch instantly!
Why doesn't it work for my account?
Note: I reseted Safari after finding that the other account's Safari could launch instantly, but mine still lagged.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
If any extensions are installed, disable them and test.

I am unable to quit or launch Safari. (Quit Safari option is not highlighted in menu) I cannot logout without quitting Safari. Can anyone help?

If you are still not able to quit Safari, or shutdown/restart your Mac, I would force quit the application with any of these instructions that work for you:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
Choose Quit by right-clicking or control-clicking on an app's icon in the Dock.
If your app does not close using the steps above, use any of these steps to force the app to quit:
Switch to another app, such as the Finder, then choose Force Quit from the Apple menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
Press Command-Option-Esc, then select the unresponsive app from the Force Quit window that appears, and click Force Quit.
If Safari continues to become unresponsive such as in this case, a 3rd party plug-in may be the culprit, and this article will help you troubleshoot that:
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

Adobe Reader X Pro serial number popup on launch (windows 7)

I have Adobe CS6 and part of this volume licence comes Adober reder X. 10.0.0
Unfortunately I'm having issues when deploying the Adober reader X package, I get a popup saying I have x amount of days left of my trial. (and it is actually counting down)
I've allocated the CS6 suite out to many PC's maybe 700 or so, and then allocated the Adobe reder X pro out. This is a side loading application from my understanding and depends on the full CS6 to be out first. The results I'm finding are mixed. Some staions are working fine, no popup's what so ever and others when opening a PDF or launch the application will produce the popup. This does seem to be computer specific I've tested the same network user on different stations and get different results. working, not working! I've also tried the full suite + adobe reader x pro on windows XP stations and so far it's never had the same issues, unfortunately out networks are quickly moving to windows 7, this seems to be the OS I have the problems with. I've not fully checked the difference with installed application from one station from another, I can do if required but most stations get the same apps installed via a 3rd party deployment tool.
I used the Customisation wizard to create the application and cut down on as many popups/updates as possible using this little tool. All works as you would expect apart from this serial number behaviour. This is causing major issues in all our education establishments and I really need to find some solution to this problem that doesn't involve de-installing the applications, it's too far spread.
I've been readign the forums and see a few different issues relating to serial number popup issues. Is this a software design fault?

You've provided details about the problem, but not about your configuration and deployment steps.
First, follow the steps in the Admin and Wizard Guides here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/index.html. Pay attention to the Activation methodologies. You may have done all that, but double check.

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Simply take it to an Apple Store or reseller if it's in warranty. Your Mac will be repaired or replaced for free because it looks a hardware problem rather than a software issue.
If it's not in warranty, hold Command and R keys while your MacBook is starting up, and reinstall OS X. If it doesn't work, you can't do much more to solve the problem

Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro (Editable PDF Combobox Search is not working properly.)

I have created Editable PDF using itext(5.3.0) in java. I have used Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro. But in editable PDF combobox search is not working properly.
It's only search first character.

My (admittedly old and slow) system did this too the first time I opened Reader 11, but it "unfroze" after about fifteen seconds, (an eternity in computing time, I know, but it did eventually open all the way) What you're seeing on the right is the "Tools" panel initializing. That's exactly where mine would freeze up on starting. Once it did finally open fully, I clicked the "Tools" link at the top to close the panel, and I opened and viewed a document that way, then closed reader. Now when I open Reader, the Tools panel doesn't initialize and it opens immediately.
Reboot and before you open anything else, open Reader. When you open it, DO NOT try to do anything with it until it fully opens, don't click anything, don't try to switch to another app. Give it time to open fully, and then click the Tools link to close it. Then, open and view a document, and close it. Close Reader and reopen it. the Tools panel should remain closed and Reader should open fully immediately.

Preference to have Safari launch with previously open webpages not showing up

In Mountalin Lion v. 10.8.2, there was supposed to be a preference to have Safari launch with previously open webpages. I have looked multiple times in the preferences for Safari and can't find this setting.

That new Safari preference only appears if you have 'Close windows when quitting an application' checked in System Preferences>General.
If you do 'close windows when quitting an application', then allowing Safari to reopen its windows is a useful option. If you don't 'close windows when quitting an application', then Safari windows should reopen automatically anyway on launch so you don't need the extra preference setting.

We need to find out what you actually have here. There is no Adobe Reader Pro. There is Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
With Acrobat Pro, you may be able to do some editing after running OCR. With Adobe Reader, you cannot edit.
