Safari loads blank pages

Hello
A problem has recently started on my MacBook with Safari, I can browse the web fine and get on all the websites I want to. However sometimes when I click on a link safari looks like it is loading the page as normal and takes the normal amount of time but fails to display anything, I just end up with a white page! This consistently occurs with the same pages, I then just have to refresh the page and it loads fine every time!
If I Ctrl-click on the page and select 'view source' the source of the page is displayed!
All the pages that fail to display have worked fine in the past, I'm not really sure when or why the problem started.
I have repaired permissions and deleted the Safari preferences file.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bryan

ewww, why on earth would you want to look at that? . . .
Seriously, though. The page does download properly for me (and quite quickly too). That suggests a problem with your settings. If you have another account, try to download the page with that. (It is sometimes a good idea to have an alternative account so that one can test for any differences.)
One might also try with another browser.
With Safari, however, I would check two things, both in the Safari menu (top left of your screen):
(A) Block popup windows (if on, turn off; of off, turn on -- perverse I know. Mine is showing blocked)
(B) Empty cache.
And with both of those, restart Safari. You might also consider (down the line a bit) a restart of the computer and a restart of your router.
You do not say how you connect to the internet, but many people do now use broadband/adsl/networks. Restarting the router would give a new external IP number and thus the site would recognise it as a new connection (this works when sometimes the iTunes shop lags).

When I click a link on a webpage, the page often comes up blank. Please help. Thnx.

    Hi...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that doesn't help, go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Safari load blank page EVERY time

I had just installed an update containing a couple different things, none of which were related to Safari (as I can remember), but after rebooting, I opened Safari and now all pages are completely blank. Another thing I noticed was that the report bug button was back to normal, but before, I had a plugin installed to change it to a new tab button. I'm pretty sure it didn't install Safari 3, because I tried running the Safari 3 uninstaller, and it said it couldn't find any restorable versions of Safari.

I upgraded to Leopard and everything is fine.

  • Safari 4.0.1 Loads Blank Page

Since updating to Safari 4.0.1, I have been having issues with loading my Earthlink home page. Safari will load roughly 75 percent of the page and then I get a completely blank page. A message in the Status Bar indicates Canceled opening the page." When I click the reload icon the page loads properly. Any suggestions?

I'm seeing the same problem. All users are affected, and I tried an archive and install, not preserving users or network settings - same issue. It seems to load pages, but they they appear to be white. The text is actually there, since I can do a find for text that I know to be there.
Could you try finding within a page? I'm curious to know if my problem is the same as yours?
This problem only began after installing Safari 4.0.1, and it seems to affect some other WebKit applications, such as Mail and the CarbonWebApp example included with the developer tools. Downgrading Safari to a 3.x version fixes the issue.
It's definitely not a Safari issue, but it does appear to be related to WebKit.
My system is about as clean as they come, and there are no third-party plug-ins.
The following pages no-longer load for me:
www.google.ie (first page is fine, but test results are invisible)
news.bbc.co.uk (Grey with no visible text)

  • Website problems in Safari - half loaded / blank pages

I'm having problems with my website - http://kevadamson.com - in Safari (4) on both Mac (10.5.8) and PC (Vista) (Version 4). I have asked my fellow web developer and programmer colleagues what they think, without finding a reason for the problems.
    *Problems as follows:*
= Pages often load with missing images (both and CSS background images)
= Pages often do not load at all - displaying just a blank page
= Pages often load with failed JavaScript elements
    *I have checked the following:*
= Other browsers and it works fine (IE6/7/8, FF3.5, Chrome, Opera 10)
= Disabling CSS and JavaScript, and I still get the same issues
    = Re-installing Safari
= Asked others to check on their machines (Mac and PC) and they see the same problems
= Choosing different options from user agents list - still get same problems
    *Other info:*
= The server is Apache 2
    = XHTML transitional and CSS3
    Anyone have any thoughts?

Don't mess around with reinstalling Safari; that's not the problem at all. Instead, try this:
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.Safari.plist file.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari, reset its preferences and see if the problem continues.

I am having issues with Safari on Lion (All up-to-date)...
Facebook comes up as a mostly blank page until I hit reload. (Header and footer show up)
Twitter usually is the same, header, background and footer but no content. (Rare and less often than facebook)
Even this very forums are not working, the "text box" never shows up, just the spinning circle.
It's getting annoying, any idea what could me the problem?

Try deleting the cookies associated with both sites.
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab. Click Details.
In the search field top right corner of that window type in   facebook     click Remove All > Done.
    Do the same for Twitter.
Now go to the Safari menu bar, click Safari > Empty Cache.

Restart your Mac. See if those sites will load pages.

  • Safari loads web page as a white blank page (source code present, however)

I created a personal website for my portfolio. Before updating it would only load in safari if...
I typed the address in the url and hit enter, then added www. and hit enter, and finally once I erased the www. the page would finally load.
Now with the update it only loads when it wants to?!?!
The source code is always visible, but it usually only shows up as a blank white page!
Please help me, this is ridiculously frustrating considering it works in every other browser.

  • Safari 6 blank page at startup

[I added this as a reply to "Safari 5.1 blank page..." but thought it deserved a discussion of its own]
I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday (July 26, 2012). Coincident with that was an upgrade to Safari 6. I've found that, upon startup, Safari begins with a blank page, and the "omnibar" contains a prompt to enter a URL or search terms. This is in spite of the fact that my Preferences specify that a new window is to be preloaded with my "home" page (which is http://www.techmeme.com). Also, upon startup, Safari is slow to respond to selection of the "home" button on the toolbar: it takes at least three "clicks" to get a response. Later after Safari has been up and running, Safari responds correctly to File==>New Window by creating a new window pre-loaded with the "home" page. This problem didn't occur on previous releases

Tried; failed. Yes, the Apple page (eventually) loaded upon Safari start. It was *very slow* to load, and its URL *did not* appear in the address bar: the prompt for an address or search terms remained. Nonetheless, I reset the home page to http://www.techmeme.com/ and received a blank page upon startup. It should also be noted that, upon receiving email notification of your reply, I took the link "Go to the message" in the email. Again, I was greeted with a blank page.
FWIW: Plugins present on my Safari are:
Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3
    Glims
    iPhotoPhotocast
    Java Applet Plug-in
    QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.1
    Shockwave Flash
    Silverlight Plug-In
    WebKit built-in PDF
I removed Picasa and Google Talk lest they be involved...I doubt others would be involved...but, who am I?

  • Safari displays blank pages for some sites

    MBP 15 inch. mid-2014
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    Safari Version 8.0.2 (10600.2.5)
Some pages, sometimes on Apple's on support site simply display as blank pages. The same page displays perfectly on Firefox or Chrome. What is this strange behaviour? For example, this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH15327 shows a completely blank page. See: http://i.imgur.com/PRPWgus.png
The same site displays without problem in Firefox:
    http://i.imgur.com/82lEuaF.png
I have no extensions installed in Safari. JS is enabled, all settings are default. This is a fresh and clean install of Yosemite. No anti-virus installed.
What's going on? Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks.

As an aside, and I don't have specific data for this, but Safari does seem to load some other pages so slowly, it's annoying to the extreme.
How can I debug this? (The blank page issue.)

  • VirtualHosts loading blank pages in Mavericks

I'm having issues loading VirtualHosts I've setup on my iMac, all that they appear to be returning are blank pages. I've tried multiple browsers, flushed my DNS cache, cleared browser cache etc but nothing appears to be fixing this.
Here is what my /etc/apache2/httpd-vhosts/conf file looks like:
    NameVirtualHost *:80
    <Directory "/Users/chris/Sites/test/">
    Allow From All
    AllowOverride All
    </Directory>
    <VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName "test.dev"
        ServerAlias "test.dev.*.*.*.*.xip.io"
        DocumentRoot "/Users/chris/Sites/test"
    </VirtualHost>
Here is what my /etc/hosts file looks like:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1   localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1             localhost
    fe80::1%lo0 localhost
    # VHX START
    127.0.0.1 test.dev
    fe80::1%lo0 test.dev
    # VHX STOP
In my /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf file I've made sure to uncomment the following line:
    Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
I'm using VirtualHostX to manage all of this but I've even resorted to deleting everything in these files and starting again following guides online – that didn't work either.
I've tried to tail the apache access log and whenever I try to access http://test.dev nothing shows up in that file or the apache error log – it's as though my machine has absolutely no idea that URL exists even though I believe everything is setup correctly.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
    Thanks, Chris

    Hi,
have you tried redeploying the CmcApp Do the following:
    1. Stop the tomcat
    2. Go to the webapps subdirectory found under the directory where the tomcat server is installed. (In Windows this should be <BOBJ installation directory>\Tomcat55\webapps ).
    3. Rename the CmcApp and CmcAppActions subfolders to CmcApp_OLD and CmcAppActions_OLD
    4. Restart the TOmcat and ait until the CmcApp and CmcAppActions folders are recreated in the webapps folder.
Try again to use the CmC.

  • Preview, Notes, Safari print blank pages

Suddenly I've got the problem, that in some programs (Preview, Notes and Safari) I can not do any printouts. The dialogbox appears, but in the preview-area on the left side is shown nothing above the number of pages and arrow to browse (even not a blank page!). If I do the printout I get a blank sheet.
If I log in as another user I do not have this problem.
Other programs work fine, like Pages, Addressbook, Excel, Firefox. Even if I select the PDF in the Finder and type Cmd-P it will be printed (I thougt, Preview would be used for this???)
I started in Safe Mode but the problem persists.
Does anybody know what is the secret behind this behavior? It would be great...

    Thank you John!
The link to the similar problem did not help (the queue is empty and no Internet-Plugin), but then I deleted in the ~/Library/Preferences folder all items starting with com.apple.print. (17 items). Therefore I lost the presettings of the printers.
    After this everything worked fine!
Then I tried to copy back the 17 files step by step but I did not get back my presettings but I can even print, so I did not find the real mistake, but the main thing is that everything is working again. And it is no problem to do the presets again, I just wanted to find the faulty item.

  • Problem with safari loading unselected pages

I've been having some problems in safari associated with pages loading that weren't selected. I don't believe that any of the pages that I end up on are actually links on the pages I was on. It happens when I'm reading in google reader or in Yahoo reading some of their top stories. I usually end up on a "select a survey question", I am able to hit the back button and get back to the page, but then it will try and forward to the same page I just left.
I've emptied cache, reset safari, ran the disk utility repair, and while it's an infrequent occurance it happens often enough that I want to fix it.

    Good... you're up to date.
I think this may be more of a Google Reader issue then Safari. Try the troubleshooting help here.

If you can't resolve the problem there, post back here.

  • Safari loads old page when clicking "Refresh" or "Reload"

    Hello Everyone,
I am using the latest version of Safari (4.0.3).
When I am viewing a webpage that contains data that is updated frequently (for example, this page in Apple Forums) and I click on "Reload" current page to view the page newly updated, Safari loads the old page...not a new one.
Anyone having the same problem? Or, perhaps, I have a setting that may need to be changed?
    Your thoughts are much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    joe

    Greetings,
It sounds like your cache isn't being purged, or there's something preventing it from being purged, so try this:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Disk Permission, restart Safari and see if the problem continues.

  • Safari loading problem pages ?

I have Safari loading and opening new pages in an additional tab, typically this is Mackeeper or some other advert..
All software updates are current on this IMac
    Any help with solutions ??

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes the word is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same word you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
