Safari Lock Icon Blocks Access?

Hi
Can anyone help me with this?
Just taken my Imac to genius bar and due to hardware problems they have installed safari 5.1.8
Very new to Apple.  When I access some work pages the icon just spins and times out.  After some research understand the lock icon appears in the top right showing SSL encrypted pages.
What change do I need to make to unlock this and access the pages I need for work?

Might be a certificate issue >  Safari, Mac OS X 10.5  Changes in client certificate authentication
If you aren't sure which Mac OS is installed, click the Apple logo icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. You'll see the version number there. Helps to post that information when asking for help.

  • Lock ICON on ACCESS DATABASE

    Hello there!
    I am using javabeans to connect & disconnect from a database by calling the methods listed below. What i have noticed is that sometimes the jsp application refuses to disconnect from the database after executing a sql command such as insert, e.g
    bean.connectToDatabase();
    bean.insertIntoTable(item one, item two );// this method test if there is a connection before inserting.
    bean.disconnectFromDatabase();
    what i have noticed is that the lock icon appears on the msAccess database after running the jsp application. Do i need to close other stuff like PreparedStatments in my bean as well. Were is the leak coming from? Any ideas?
    public void connectToDatabase () throws ClassNotFoundException,
    SQLException
    try
    Class.forName ("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection (connectionURL, "", "");
    catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
    error = "ClassNotFoundException: Unable to locate database driver ";
    throw new SQLException (error);
    } // end try
    } // end connect
    public void disconnectFromDatabase () throws SQLException
    try
    if (connection != null)
    connection.close ();
    } // end if
    catch (SQLException sqle)
    error = "SQLException: unable to close the database connection ";
    throw new SQLException (error);
    } // end try
    } // end disconnectFromDatabase

    maybe try if(connection.isOpen() == true){
    rs.close();
    stmt.close();
    connection.close();}

  • Safari 5.0.3 on Windows 7 64-Bit - Downloads all have a lock icon

    Every files I download from Safari always gets a lock icon, which means only an administrator can access the file. It's not really that much of a pain, as it is a quick and easy fix, but the point is this shouldn't be happening.
    Here's what it looks like"

    Does anyone know why Safari does this (and only Safari, as no other browser does this), or does anyone know how to fix it?

    I'm having the same issue. Have you been able to resolve it?

  • I just upgraded to Firefox 5.0.1 and since the "lock" icon never appears when accessing secure websites, where should I look for it?

    I just recently upgraded to Firefox 5.0.1 and now the "lock" icon doesn't appear anywhere (I can find) when accessing secure websites. I haven't seen it once. It used to appear in the lower right corner of the screen. I also have Norton Internet Security.

    Padlock is no longer part of Firefox; it was removed beginning in Firefox 4. The padlock shows that there is a secure connection but does not supply additional information. You could have made a typographical error and still have been connected to a secure connection. The padlock was replaced in Firefox 3 with the Site Identity Button. • Safari Locks Up - Locks Up Access To Apple Menu

    I'm having a recurring problem with Safari on two iMacs on an AirPort Extreme network. I have an iMac 1.8ghz G5 running OSX 10.4.2 with iMB RAM and running Safari 2.0.1. All patches are up to date. I also have an iMac 1ghz G4 with the same software levels. The problem happens on both computers, though more frequently on the G5.
    Basically, what happens is during a Safari session, the browser will freeze. I can close the window but not quit Safari, but have no access to any other programs, and can't stop Safari using force quit from the Apple menu, as I can't access it.
    This problem first started about 3-4 days ago (no problems ever before that). The G5 started first, then the G4, and lock-ups happen 5-6 times a day now.
    I had a chat session with an Apple tech support person 2 days ago. He told me to do the following:
    - do a PRAM reset
    - do an NVRAM reset
    - delete the following files: com.apple.Safari.plist com.apple.Syndication.plist com.apple.SyndicationAgent.plist com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    - run repair disk and repair preferences
    Did all that, and the problem is still happening.
    One thing I have found: If I turn the Airport Extreme off (hard shut down or from the menu bar), killing the internet connection, Safari gives the "Can't find the internet" error page and wakes up out of its hibernation.
    This problem is exasperating. Any help would be appreciated.

    James,
    I've had an identical experience with two different iBooks, also running the latest updates. I use a generic 802.11b WiFi router asa WAP, hooked up to a modem, but the same solution you mentioned applies. When the Safari lockup occurs If I restart the router everything responds and returns to normal. As I had discussed in a different post, I've found the problem seems to occur more often on java intensive web sites. For several days I could repeat the problem every time I tried the foxnews.com web site. I noticed it the night the Jet Blue aircraft had the damaged front gear, and it continued until yesterday. The past two days, just as strangely the site now works and video etc streams perfectly. I'm wondering if Safari has a problem dealing with a java script error or something similar on the offending web pages, causing it to get stuck in a loop. thats my current best theory anyway.
    There are a number of identical complaints to yours on these and other forums, unfortunately I've yet to find anyone actually identify a positive solution.
    Good luck

  • Safari 8 not displaying lock icon for https secured websites

    It seems that Safari 8 (installed with Yosemite) is not showing the lock icon for HTTPS websites.
    I can't find a way to see the security certificates for secure websites.
    I switched the “Show full website address” setting in Safari's Preferences, but nothing happened.
    It's essential having this icon, or any way to tell if the site is secure or not.
    I don't see any other option in the menus or anywhere else in Safari to see a sites certificates.

    I'm not sure if Safari was updated since your question, but today the lock icon is in the address bar right next to the address
    This forum page shows:
    Or, a non-Apple site, like google, just shows a grey lock like this:

  • How do I know if a login site is secure? In Safari or Explorer there is a visual lock icon, but not so in Firefox. Is there an add-on that meets this need?

    How do I know if a login site is secure? In Safari or Explorer there is a visual lock icon in the web browser window, but not so in Firefox. Is there an add-on that meets this need?

    The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server. So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL. The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the Site Identity Button on the left end of the location (address) bar.

    This has actually existed since Firefox 3.0

  • Volumes show Locked Icon and no access priviledges to "custom" permissions

    Help!
    Since I upgraded and then migrated to Leopard I have been having issues with ownerships and priviledges.
    Constantly was getting cannot move or trash or change due to lack of priviledges but two days ago 4 of my 8 drives have a locked icon on the volume icon and when I try to access them I get a "you do not have access priviledges to this "FOLDER"" message when I try to open the drive?? There is a lot of reuired info and data on these drives and I need to access them!
    When I go to GET INFO and look at the permissions they are all "CUSTOM" and when I try to modify or add myself to the list my name comes up but does not add to the list.
    I also see 2 (TWO) "system" and one "everyone" on the list??
    Some drives only have one "system" but all show custom as priviledges??
    PLEASE HELP!

    run the following commands in terminal
    sudo chflags nouchg /Volumes/"drive-name"
    sudo chmod 775 /Volumes/"drive-name"
    put the name of the external instead of "drive-name" in the above. keep the quotes. you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal. repeat for every affected drive.

    SInce last upgrade to ios8 Safari freezes with a lock icon in the URL box.

    Hi ..
    Reset the device:
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Can I lock or block the ability to delete safari history?

    Can I lock or block the ability to delete safari history?

    Your child should have their own account. That account can then be restricted with "Parental Controls".
    There is a substantial set of "Parental Controls" available, including limiting to ONLY a WhiteList, OR a blanket "adult sites" restriction with or without an additional BlackList of your choosing.
    There is also a restriction to whom s/he may send emails and with whom s/he may send instant messages. This is important.
    Keep in mind that the REAL enemy on the Internet is not pørn. Pørn may give them a distorted view about how adults deal with sex.
    But pørn will not make arrangements to meet your child after school. The REAL enemy on the Internet is unrestricted Chat rooms with strangers.

  • Lock icon by battery, safari won't work, covered by grey screen

    lock icon by battery. saferi locked. How do I turn lock off?

    The lock icon by the battery gauge means that the screen rotation is locked. Read this and the article in the link.
    First check the side switch on the side of the iPad above the volume control. Try flipping the switch the other way.
    If that switch did not unlock the screen, then do this. Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar at the bottom. Swipe all the way to the right in the task bar. Look all the way on the left side and see if there is a lock icon there. If so, tap it and see if the lock icon disappears.
    You can set the side switch to either mute system sounds or to lock the screen. Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Lock Rotation or Mute. Whichever function you choose for the side switch, the other function will be available in the task bar.
    Read this about the side switch.

    For this issue with Safari try these steps.
    Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. In iOS 4.3 - clear history, cookies and cache.  Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    If that doesn't work - quit Safari - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Finally - if nothing else works - reset the iPad.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks, Safari/Adobe are constantly blocking access to PDF files

    Since upgrading to Mavericks, Safari/Adobe (Version 7.0 (9537.71)) are constantly blocking access to PDF files.
    I can intuit what this is all about, however, I can find no information about it... the Adobe Plugin/Safari is apparently building a "white-list" of "trusted sites," but I can not find any information about this white-list -- where it is stored, how to revoke permisions, how to "one-time" permissions, etc.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    I am experiencing this exact same behavior since upgrading to Mavericks, too.
