Safari locked out of secure servers after OS X 10.5.6 update

I should have waited another day. After updating to 10.5.6 I can no longer logon to any of my secure servers (bank accounts, brokerage accounts, credit cards, etc.) using Safari. I have been told by tech support at these sites that it is due to changes that Apple made to the way Safari handles proxies. The choice they offer is to go back to 10.5.5 or use a different browser. Since everything I do is set up in Safari I would prefer to roll back to 10.5.5. Responses to other issues related to 10.5.6 indicate that this is only possible by reinstalling the OS or installing 10.5.5 from a back up. I use Time Machine. Can someone please tell me how would I go about going back to 10.5.5 from the last back up prior to updating to 10.5.6? Do I need to restore everything, or can I do a selective restore? All advice will be most welcome.

"I assume the problem is with Safari 3.2.1. I am having no problems with 3.1.2. (the one included in the update)." -- KJK555
I am confused by your post. Following software numbering conventions, version 3.2.1 ought to be newer than 3.1.2. I have installed the update twice, so I have to believe that 3.2.1 is the most up-to-date. It is also the version currently available on the Apple web site.
At least the posts on MacRumors confirm that I am not alone, nor is there only one institution that is in contact with Apple on this issue. The following is an excerpt from an HSBC Internet Banking Technical Support email response that is posted on the MacRumors forum thread listed in my previous post (2:28 PM 18Dec2008.)
"Thank you for using the feedback facility for our Internet Banking service.
This is with regard to your recent e-mail concerning being unable to access Internet Banking. We realize that some customers are facing difficulties connecting to Internet Banking through an Apple Mac OS X system running with a Safari browser. The matter has been escalated to Apple who have identified this as a problem on their end."
Now if we could just get some feedback from Apple on when this will be fixed. Or, maybe they just want us to use a different browser and forget about Safari.

I called the number but the rep didn't identify herself only stated that they work with Apple & Safarii to help reduce these problems, then proceeded to ask for permission to enter my laptop remotely. I colorfully told her where she could go. So my Safari is locked out, MacKeeper hasn't identified the problem and the Safari app doesn't show in Mackeeper for me to uninstall the entire application. Please help me get rid of Safari then load a brand new one without the Debbie does Dallas getting her sticky fingers in my MaBbook Pro (17-inch) OS X updated 10.10.1 Yosemite.
How can I uninstall Safari on my MacBook Pro when it is entwined into the OS X operating system? Then reinstall a clean version.

  • Safari locked out told to call bogus number

Safari locked out and msg posted re serious security problem and told to call 18007988393.  This looks bogus.  When I called I was told I had to share my screen.  I hung up.

It's a scam to fleece you out of hundreds of dollars to "fix" a problem you don't have.
Press Command+Option+Esc. Highlight Safari and click Force Quit.
Hold the Shift key and relaunch Safari. The Shift key tells it not to reload the previous open sites.

  • Locked out for security reasons

Recently a message board I sometime visit started giving me the java needs to be enabled to view error. I read here that this is usually a problem with the web site, so I mentioned it to them. The response is below. Is this correct? Or does it only effect my older safari v1.3.2?

    Thanks

    Hi Yositimy
I checked the link you gave, and got a "Sorry, you must have javascript enabled to view this site." using Safari 2.0.4 on 10.4.10 Camino & likely any other browser works fine.
As for their explanation - hmmm what rubbish. I'd guess they've had some coding problems causing incompatibility issues with Safari & decided to put some checks in to stop Safari users from viewing the site, or some of it.
If you wish to use Safari, the following worked for me on Safari 2.0.4
enable the 'debug' menu... either by using Terminal & entering defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1 then Return - while Safari is not open, or via a 3rd-party app that makes such mods.
Then, from the debug menu, I chose User Agent - Mac MSIE 5.2.2 . All the other 'user agent' options gave the same message about javascript.
Actually, rather than guessing... the javascript message comes as a result of umm a javascript , which 'tests' for javascript being enabled, then the page produces the error message upon deciding, incorrectly in Safari's case... that it isn't.
the site owners could likely find an answer at the http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=117' vbulletin forums.

  • Time Machine Locked out of Backup Disk after Install of 7.6.3 Airport Utility

Yesterday the system advised that Software update was available for Airport Utility. I updated (7.6.3) since I was having trouble getting AirPlay to work. Following the update the system wanted to update the firmware on the Time Capsule and also the Airport Base Stations. I did this as well. Now the new Airport Utility can't find my Airport Base Stations with any reliability. Also, Time Machine can not run because the Backup Disk on the Time Capsule is "in use". The Airport Base Stations are working just fine even though the utility doesn't always see them. I am most concerned with the backup situation.
Do I need to undo this faulty software/firmware upgrade to resolve this? If so, how?
I would appreciate some guidance on this very much.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cyclone
PS the iMac is at 10.8.2. Can't seem to be able to change it on the profile.

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.

  • Safari unable to establish secure connections after security update

Is Apple going to fix this or at least tell us how to go back to previous version that worked fine??? Does any one know haow to do either???
I too have had it!!! I have used a Mac for over fifteen years, but this may be the last one!!! There does not seem to be anything intuitive about it any more.

we are also running cucm 9.1.2 and are considering getting several sectera viper units.
did your issue ever get resolved?

  • Has anyone else had Messages and Mail lock up and then crash after doing the iOS 8.2 update? Rather, has anyone else had Messages and Mail lock up and then crash for the first time a day after doing the iOS 8.2 update?

I have a 64 gig second gen iPad mini that I updated to iOS 8.2 yesterday with no initial problems. You're probably thinking all's good right? Wrong.
All was good until about an hour ago. When I saw a text notification on the lock screen I swiped right thinking that it wouldn't act any differently from the countless other times that I've done that same action...little did I realize that it would lock up once unlocked. To clarify, when I say "locked up" I mean frozen with nothing on the screen except for the basic design of Messages.

Not experienced an issue with my iPad Mini, and I've been running iOS 8.2 since it came out.
What troubleshooting have you tried since the device froze? Is it still froze? First step would be to try and power off the device. If that does not help, then perform a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The device will reboot, and it will have no affect on your data. That should correct things, but if it doesn't, then the next steps are a restore from backup, and if necessary a restore as new.

  • Trying to lock out Solaris 11 non-root users but not working-

    Hi,
We are trying to lock out non-root user after 5 unsuccessful login attempts by editing the policy.conf file but it's not working..It's working in the global zone but not in the non-global zones. Is there something else we need to do?
This is Solaris 11 with Solaris 11 NGZs.
    kind regards

It works exactly the same way in the global and non global zone cases. This code is 100% userland so it doesn't mater if it is running
in a global or non global zone.
Note that you do need to configure policy.conf in both the global and non global zone.
Are both configured similarly with respect to nameservices ?
Currently we only support lock_after_retries for the local files nameservice.

  • I've forgotten one of my answes to the "security questions" now I am locked out of my account. All I wanted to do was buy an album and now I am "locked out" how do I get Itunes to let me buy this album?

The Three Best Alternatives for Security Questions and Rescue Mail
        1. Use Apple's Express Lane.
Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the
bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then
'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Forgotten Apple
ID security questions' and click 'Continue'. Please be patient waiting for the return
phone call. It will come in time depending on how heavily the servers are being hit.
         2.  Call Apple Support in your country: Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support or
Apple ID- Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security. Ask to speak to

  • HT201303 Stolen iPhone w/out an security password has locked me all my password protected account.

I've been waiting to re-activate my old cell (via Assurion Insurance/Verizon) as I expected there would be usage & I'd be responsible.  However, tomorrow I plan to notify the insurer for Verizon as no calls have appeared as charges.  Not "IT" savy, however; I suspect that whomever has my former cell; replaced my sims card & activated it under their personal #.  My basis for that contention is I regularly used a minimum of 7 e-mail accounts in addition to approximately 100+ miscellaneous password associated accounts and I am bounced & locked out of each & every one. However, yesterday & today I found two exceptions to accessing "iTunes" & iCloud, albeit I've yet to be able to use iCloud except to see several messages from former email accounts sending me multiple notifications that my email account passwords were changed.  Problem is I tried to respond regarding comprimised password & found that despite including that address as an alternate contact; the email bounced back stating something to the effect that since I'm not using the ios from whence same email address originated; messages cannot be sent? Any simple sequential steps anyone can suggest to retrieve all the data I've accumulated since 2001 when I switched to a Verizon Cell would be greatly appreciated.  FYI: Beware & exercise caution w/ respect to using security features; backup everything regularly...I didn't.  Now, I'm paying the price for it cuz my Calendar, approximately 35 folders, emails, contact info, applications, gps, etc. are gone...hopefully, I can figure out some backdoor means of retrieving them cuz FYI e-mail Accounts aren't responsive to either phone calls re:  this matter or responsive to emails requesting assistance. Anyone have any ideas; or perhaps found themselves in the same lock down? Thx, dasqm PS Formerly synced iPhone w/ either my MacBook 10.5.8 OSX or MacBook Pro Mountain Lion or Gateway 2000; however, the Town's water pressure was set too high & water leaked thru the ceiling frying them after my phone was stolen.  Therefore, no repository of old material aside from accessing iPhone data if even retrievable.  Just purchased an ASUS Windows 8 the day before yesterday, so there's nothing on any computers.

You wouldn't want to use a Panther Disc to try to change the PW or even to repair the HD.
It sounds like your HD is dead, bit...
OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-s and type in the following:
    /sbin/fsck -fy Enter
    /sbin/mount -uaw Enter
    rm /var/db/.applesetupdone Enter
    reboot Enter
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!! (if it works at all)

  • Safari 7.0.5 problem-- I can't erase saved passwords-- I delete it in Preferences, it keeps entering the old password. I just got locked out of a bank account-- AGAIN!

I changed my password for an important account.
I deleted the old password under preferences on Safari.
I entered the new password and it asked to save it.
Next time I went to the account----it entered the old password--- and after three tries, I was locked out of the account.
I re-did the whole process--- it happened again!
    Help!

Passwords saved by Safari are actually stored in Keychain Access.
Open Keychain Access located in   HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the website you are trying to change the password for top right corner of the Keychain Access window.
That website keychain should be there.
Then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
Then back to Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
Then select the Passwords tab then delete the the website. Make sure: AutoFill user names and passwords is selected.
Now go to the bank account website and try changing your password.

  • Frequent requests to login in to Apple ID followed by Security lock-out

I have an iPhone 5s and an iPad 2 (not air). My son has an iPod that is connected with the family sharing option. Over the last month or so, I've been frequently—and I mean FREQUENTLY, almost every day—been asked to enter my Apple ID password. That would be frustrating enough, but then, after I enter it, it pops up again and again and again until it tells me my password is wrong. I can tell you with 100% certainty that I have entered the password correctly more than once in a string of those pop-ups and it continues to happen as I described. And, when I then go to reset my password, I'm given the option to "unlock" my password which requires me entering security questions and my password, which it readily accepts as correct and unlocks my password.
Most of the time, I will then go to use my devices after that and the password will then work for a while until the cycle starts again a day or so later.
I've talked to Apple Support and they told me the only reason I'd be getting locked out of my account is if someone has tried to enter my password too many times, but from my end, I would be the only person that would be trying to enter it. And that doesn't solve why its not accepting my password that I know for a fact to be correct when asked to sign in.
As added information, I did completely reset my password about a week ago and it still continues to happen with the new password. Also, when I then sign on to once of my two Mac computers (iMac and Macbook Pro) they prompt me to enter my password twice and then verify the security code from my credit card in iTunes.
I'm beyond frustrated at this point. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I am having a similar problem. My account has been disabled, I have changed the password and spoke with tech support and they said i would have to talk to someone about why my account was disabled before it ca get fixed.
