Safari Locks Up When Choosing "Browse Files".

Hey there. Every time I click Choose File, or Browse for files, for example while uploading images, Safari locks up and freezes. If I leave it alone for say, 5 minutes, it will fix itself, and sometimes it works fine. If I drag the image into the choose file area, I can upload, I just can't browse for files.
Any idea how to fix this?

I'm running Safari 4.0.4. By the way, this happens with all browsers I have (Opera, Firefox, Chrome) when searching for files.

  • Unresponsive behavior: android p780 choose/browse file button

    Hello lonovians,
My phone is p780 8gb s226 ROW and yes it's rooted. My problem is when I want to add attachment, pressing the choose/browse file button resulted in no response, as in no folder popped out for me to select a file to attach to a message. I tried chrome, dolphin an mini opera browser and even the problem exist in on of my app where i hve to upload a picture but cant do so because of the 'dead' choose file button. I cant seems to recall what i did but i am sure that this problem diesnt exist even under rooted s226. It just the option myteriously died probably killed by my sleepy fingers.
Can any of you help me? Please and thnk you.

iTunes supports syncing and, where applicable, backing up of Apple's own devices. There is no support for Android. Read the manual/help sites for your device. I don't have one but I assume you copy media to it using Windows Explorer.

  • After the latest OS update, Safari locks up when trying to flip back to the previous page

After the latest OS update, Safari locks up when trying to flip back to the previous page using the two finger sweep.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Safari 5 locks up when attaching a file to a yahoo email

While using yahoo email I tried to attach a PDF and Safari locks up requiring a force quit. I attached the same file while logging into yahoo mail via Firefox and didn't have a problem. I have tried deleting and reloading Safari 5 but it didn't help. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem in Safari? Should I just go back to Safari 4?

Safari 5 changed a few things internally, and it broke BrowserPlus. A patch was made last week and is available here:
    Mac:
    http://github.com/downloads/browserplus/platform/BrowserPlus2.9.2full.dmg
    Windows:
    http://github.com/downloads/browserplus/platform/BrowserPlus2.9.2full.exe
Otherwise, you can uninstall BrowserPlus. The latest instructions for that are here:

  • CS6 beta locks up when saving portrait files

I've had an issue with the CS6 beta.  It doesn't happen every time, but it has happened at least 5 times.
When I have been editing portraits in CS6, occasionally when I flatten an image and then go to save it, the program will lock up with the 'save as' window frozen on my screen. I can move my mouse around, but it won't click on anything photoshop related.  I can pull up Safari, or go to other programs... but CS6 is jammed. Fortunately, CS6 has a recovery feature, and I haven't totally lost my work (only the layers of the other opened files, which could obviously present a problem).   I think it might happen if I click in the 'Save as'  box within a few second of it opening  when I go to rename a file - If I wait a while longer, maybe 10 seconds longer after the 'Save as' window pops up, it seems to avoid the issue.
It seems to happen when I am working on multiple images (more than one portrait open at a time).
Also, now when I am running Portrait Professional through cs6, my macbook gets very hot... it never did that before.
This issue has happened on my macbook pro, Mac OS X,  version 10.6.8, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, 2 cores, 8 GB memory.

I am not that familiar with OS dialog, and bad disk data structure...  but I am not doing anything different than I normally do.
When I flatten my image and go to File/Save, and the standard little window pops up - and I click inside the Save As text bar at the very top to give the file a name - cs6 locks up at that point.  Each time this has happened, I have not selected a new location, I merely clicked in the Save As text box... but could do nothing else from that point on. When I click file/save as, when the window pops up- The current file name inside the text window always appears highlighted in blue - indicating that it is selected and ready for re-naming, when I click on that to rename it, that is when it locks up. The letters remain highlighted in blue... just frozen to the cursor.  I can't get photoshop to 'hide' at this point either, if I go to Photoshop/hide photoshop.
I will check out the DiscUtility idea, but I do a lot of work on this computer, and have never ever had this issue until cs6 beta, and only when I am on cs6 beta. The few times that I have used cs5 since I downloaded cs6 beta it hasn't done it.
These files that I am working on don't have any issues after I force quite cs6 beta and reopen them. The only thing that I can determine might be causing it, is clicking in the box too soon... like I have to give it 10 seconds to get its act together to "save as' another name. It might be preparing a file thumbnail... that makes sense, but it is taking an unusual amount of time.  I have tons of memory, so it doesn't need help in that department.
Beside this issue, I really like the look and feel of cs6.

  • Safari Locks Up When Filling Out PDF Form.

I'm trying to fill out a PDF form online that when completed, it sends to an e-mail address. After I fill out a random amount of fields, it comes up with the box (snapshot of it is here (and posted below): /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/110/11008709-1.jpg ). I cannot click (or "enter") away the box at all. Basically Safari locks up and I have to force quit it.
    Any suggestions?

Well, since I'm not running 10.5, I can't be certain if that toolbar you see if for Safari or Acrobat Reader. But if you look in /Applications/InputManagers and/or /Applications/Internet Plug-Ins, you should see an Adobe PDF plugin file (or something with a very similar name. If you have that, that means Safari is using Adobe Reader to render those files.
Even so, try filling out and submitting the form using Firefox to see if that works.

  • Safari bookmarks erased when other browser used

Hi. I regularly use a site that doesn't work with Safari so I have to use another browser except that whenever I use any browser OTHER than Safari, when I return to Safari all my bookmarks have disappeared!! Why is this happening? Is there a way to prevent this or is Safari the only browser we can use?

    Hi Donna,
Using another browser has no effect on your bookmarks. Safari's bookmarks are maintained in the file Bookmarks.plist in your User Account>Library>Safari folder. If the bookmarks disappear when you quit Safari, it may possibly mean the file is not being updated, hence, any bookmarks you added in the previous session would not be retained.
In the Finder, go to your Safari folder. Right click (or control key/click) to bring up the contextual menu>select Get Info. When the info panel appears look at the bottom "Ownership and Permissions". Does it say "read and write". If not, change it to "read and write" by clicking on the drop down menu. If the permissions are correct, do the same for the Bookmarks.plist inside the Safari Folder. If that is OK, go to your Home Folder (User Account) and check the permissions there.
    Post back.

  • Both Safari & Chrome freezing when downloading a file

    Hi,
Ever since upgrading to Yosemite I'm having issues sometimes downloading files from browsers. I usually use Safari and I noticed that when clicking on file and selecting Download Linked File or Download Linked File As, Safari freezes and requires force quit. I had the same experience with Chrome. I'm specifically trying to download from Blackboard, if that makes any difference. The only way to fix this is to reboot. Also, perhaps this bug is related to Finder because today, Restart would not work. I had to manually force restart.
    Anyone else having this?

  • Itunes locks up when syncing .pdf files from computer to ipad

When transfering .pdf files from PC to iPad, sync locks up.

After you open the Apps tab in iTunes, select Adobe Reader from the list of apps on the bottom list. On the right, you will be allowed to "add" files. Just drag and drop files onto that box and then hit sync. The next time you fire up Adobe Reader on your iPad, the files would be there for you.

  • Tecra M2 locks up when Intranet Browsing

We have two Tecra M2 machines in the company which connect in the office to our company LAN. When they are being used for surfing the Internet, they are fine - speeds are OK and pages load correctly. However - when users browse our company intranet, pages load slowly and the whole machine is tied up while pages load.
These are the only laptops that this occurs on. Desktops are fine and other Tosh models are OK. Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix?

    Hello
In your case the very important is that LAN functionality is OK. If you have this kind of problem first you must contact your LAN administrator. I am pretty sure that they have a right explanation for this issue.
I am not a LAN expert but please ask your LAN administrator if you use a Proxy server. Check in your browser under Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings > Proxy server option. If the option is activate, you can find there a option called Bypass proxy server for a local addresses. Activate this option.
I am pretty sure that it should works much faster.
    Bye

  • Safari locks up when making it default browser

If I try to make Safari my default browser by going through the setting in Safari it always locks up Safari. I'm then forced to do a force quit on Safari to relaunch it. Anybody have any idea why this would happen? Firefox has gotten strange on me lately, so I want to make Safari my default one until I can figure out what's up with Firefox.

    Hi Barry,
Sorry for the delay in saying thanks for the help. I ended up rebuilding the launch services database that cured that problem and another one I had. I do really appreciate your help.
    Many thanks again,

  • Safari locks up when I try to open it, ultimatley will not open

When I click on the Safari icon in my dock, it shows Safari in the toolbar at the top of my screen, but it just shows the spinning beach ball with no safari window actually on my screen. I have to "force quit" the application in order to get out of it. What gives?

    Hello,
Try a different user account and try to launch Safari that way.
Adding a new user account to your computer
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
See if you can launch Safari in a different account. Also, if not, try using a different browser, such as Firefox available here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/mozillafirefox.html

  • Safari locks up when typing URL, but not from bookmarks

Safari Version 3.1.1 (4525.18) in OSX 10.4.11 on PowerBook G4:
The dreaded spinning beach ball appears as soon as I begin to type in a URL (first "w"), requiring a Force Quit. If I access a site from my Bookmarks, no problem. If I copy and paste a URL, it locks up. Google search does NOT have this effect.
This has followed on from what I would describe as increasing instability (i.e. sudden quits) over the last week or so, which I put down to having viewed too many YouTube vids (I have become very wary of letting Safari run for too many days without quitting and re-opening).
I am fully up to date via Software Update. Just wish I could remember when the latest version went in, but it wasn't long ago.

  • TC and WD500 External drive - Locks up when copying large files

I have a TC with a Western Digital 500GB my Book connected to the USB port on the TC that I use for network Storage. Everything works fine until I try to copy large files or directories from the Finder mounted share. After the copy freezes the external drive can no longer be seen by airport utility. If I look at disks it sees the disk but no partition. I have to power cycle the external drive to have TC see the drive again. Then I disconnect the drive and plug it in directly to the MAC and run disk utility and his repairs the journal. I have to do the repair every time it locks up. Should the external drive be formatted different or does it have to be connected to a USB hub. Or is this just a bug with the TC and afp ?

I have this very same problem.
I tried to copy a 4GB+ folder from the Macbook to the 500GB MyBook attached to my TC and it froze.
Now the the files on the MyBook are invisible when attached to the TC ("0 Items") but are available when the drive is connected directly to the Macbook. I have run disk utility but it hasn't helped. The disk is FAT 32 formatted and the files on the MyBook are still invisible over the network.
When the drive attached to the Macbook directly I can see a 'phantom' file with the same title as the 4GB+ folder I'd tried to copy. This file is "ZERO KB" and it cannot be deleted (error code -43).
Anyone have a clue what is happening here?
