Safari login keychain

How can I stop the Safari pop up that states "Safari wants to use the "login Key Chain" ? I have installed and using Leopard OS X 10.5 and this pop-up happens about every time I move from one application to another.
Thanks,
Bo

Hi Bo
Welcome to Apple Discussions
The remedy lies in Keychain Access.app in your Utilities folder.
The following will eliminate the prompt. You only have to do this for one of your Safari keychain entries.
From Keychain Help Menu:
To set up automatic keychain access for an application:
1.Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities.
2.Click Show Keychains if the Keychains list is not open, then select a keychain.
3.Select Application in the Passwords category. Click the disclosure triangle if Application doesn't appear.
4.Double-click the password in the Keychain window, then click Access Control.
5.To allow access to this password by any application, select "Allow all applications to access this item."
6.To control access to this password, select "Confirm before allowing access."
7.To require the keychain password instead of the application password, select "Ask for Keychain password."
8.To add individual applications that can access this password, click Add or + and navigate to the application you want to add.
IMPORTANT: If you select "Allow all applications to access this item" for an item in your keychain, you make it easy for a computer virus or other software to read the password.
Click Save.

How do I find the login password for keychain

    Hello Linc Davis,
I am a novice MAC computer user and am being plagued by the Safari login keychain pop up, as well. Could you please tell me the steps I need to take to get to the place where I can disable this prompt. I do know my login password (for my user name on this computer), but I don't even know where the Keychain login can be found. Your help is greatly appreciated!! Many thanks!

  • Safari wants to use the "login" keychain. -- Why can't Safari remember???

When I launch the Safari application, I get a dialogue box with a message indicating the following:
Safari wants to use the "login" keychain.
    Please enter the keychain password.
    Password:
    Cancel -- OK
When I get this dialogue box, I enter the login keychain password in the Password text box, and I click the OK button. Then, Safari proceeds as normal. This is extremely annoying, because it happens almost every time that I launch Safari.
This only started to happen after I upgraded on Monday to Mac OS X Leopard version 10.5. During the Leopard upgrade, I had problems with the keychain passwords, and so I then upgraded again with the new "Login and Keychain Update 1.0". But, the problems with Safari forgetting the login keychain password continue.
The strange thing is that there is NO option in the dialogue box to indicate that Safari should REMEMBER the password. The option does NOT exist, so I can NOT click the Remember box.
I also went into the Keychain Access utility and double-checked and confirmed that my First Aid preferences were properly CHECKED for "Synchronize login keychain password with account" and also "Keep login keychain unlocked". Both of these preferences options are checked. So, I can't understand why Safari cannot remember the login keychain password?
I have this exact same problem with the Mail application, as well.
And, it looks like many many people are having the same problem -- See the following link to related discussions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5679135&#5679135
Can anyone please help? -- When is Apple going to release a fix for this problem? -- Has anyone received any kind of acknowledgement from Apple that they are aware of this problem and that they intend to fix it?
    Please help !!!

I had the same experience and found a solution.
After the upgrade, I had a login keychain (the default) and my original username keychain. Both are in the chain of keychains, but since it has a choice, Mail keeps asking you to confirm.
I moved all the entries out of username into login, deleted username, and all is well.
Note that Keychain asks for your password on EACH ITEM that it moves, which can be tedious. So I changed the keychain password to a single character, just for the duration, then changed it back to something secure.
If, on the other hand, you don't have two keychains, then I can offer no suggestion.

  • "Safari wants to use login keychain" how do I stop this message popping up

    Hello out there!
Everytime I go to a new web page in Safari I box pops up on the screen with the message " Safari wants to use the login keychain. Please enter the keychain password." I click on the "cancel" button and the message disappears and I can get to the web page ok. It's just that having this message box pop up all the bloody time is driving me crazy. Is there anybody out there who knows how I can get rid of it entirely and restore my sanity please?
I don't want to use passwords or keychains.
Thank you so kindly for reading my posting and thank you in advance for any help.
    Best regards Wooziewooster.

Ah yes, you may also (or instead) need to "Open Keychain Access, and choose Preferences from the Keychain Access menu, and click the Reset Keychain button. Enter your current login password and you're done." See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8318028&#8318028

  • Cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.

when Update to 10.7.2 ,I cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.
    OS:10.7.2
    Macbook Pro 2010-mid 13inch

I also have the same problem, however if I use Firefox or Opera sites with ssl connection work fine. Still, I can't use Google Chrome (ssl), Safari (ssl), the Mac app store (generally), or the iTunes store (generally). Both the iTunes store, Safari and the app store won't respond, and Chrome displays this error: (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT). The problem persists regardless of what network I'm using. Also, when trying to access the keychain or iCloud, the process will not start (will hang). I didn't have these problems at all before updating to 10.7.2.
Sometimes rebooting helps, and sometimes not. If the problem disappears by rebooting, then it only lasts a few minutes before it reappears. It is very frustrating, especially since there doesn't seem to be any obvious or consistent way of which to fix it.
    I'm also using a Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2010.

  • Since upgrading to OS 10.8.5 login keychain corrupted keeps asking for password for OSX, mail and Safari. Solutions?

Ever since upgrading to OS 10.8.5 login keychain corrupted; keeps asking for pasword tor OSX, mail and Safari. Help!

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application and select the login keychain. If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, unlock it. From the menu bar, select Keychain Access > Preferences > First Aid. If the box labeled Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it. Then select Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid and repair the keychain. Quit the application.

  • Export all Safari and Keychain login details to print

How can this be done so I have a hard copy of all my login off Safari or Keychain?

If you want a paper copy of your login.keychain (which includes all of your Safari ones), use this simple AppleScript which generates a list containing the name, account username, and password for each key in my login.keychain. I use this list as a backup for all generic and webpage keys. This works without a problem when run in Script Editor (copy and paste the script into Script Editor, but don't include the <begin script> and <end script> items), prompting with a dialog box for approval to open each key, and continuing on to the end, producing the desired, tab-delimited text document named "Passwords", and saving it to the Desktop. Every time the dialog box pops up, click the right-most button that isn't grayed out. Once through, if you run the script again, it'll remember what you entered previously and not ask again. I usually clean it up manually and copy it into Excel where I can sort it.
Ensure that Keychain Scripting.app is in /System/Library/ScriptingAdditions/ and that the login.keychain is in /Users/username/Library/Keychains/.
    <begin script>
    set osXKeychainScriptingPath to ¬
(path to scripting additions from system domain as Unicode text) ¬
    & "Keychain Scripting.app:" -- one line
    set theSecuridPIN to {}
tell application "Keychain Scripting" to launch
tell application "Keychain Access" to launch
using terms from application "Keychain Scripting"
    tell application osXKeychainScriptingPath
set KeyList to every Internet key of current keychain
    repeat with aKey in KeyList
set theSecuridPIN to theSecuridPIN & ((name of aKey) & tab & ¬
(account of aKey) & tab & (password of aKey) & return) as text
    end repeat
    end tell
    end using terms from
tell application "Keychain Scripting" to quit
tell application "Keychain Access" to quit
    tell application "Finder"
open for access file (((path to desktop folder) as text) & "Passwords") with write permission
    set theFile to result
    write theSecuridPIN to theFile
    close access theFile
    end tell
    <end script>

  • How can I fix an annoying repeating request for "login" keychain by multiple applications like Safari and AddressBookSourceSink.

This issue arose after upgrading to snow leopard and ultimately to Mavericks.  I took my Mac into a Genius Bar to have them look at this issue.  We attempted to change the Keychain Password which failed to change the local items password.  As a fix we changed the administrator password then changed the keychain.  This appeared to be the fix however my Mac was never connected to the Internet while at the Genius Bar.  Upon returning home and reconnecting to the Wifi the popups began again.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Network user, network home folder, and the login keychain

I've got everything set up in WGM. I can log the user onto a workstation, and the home folder maps to the appropriate network location.
What I can't seem to do, is get a login keychain working. The keychain exists, in the proper folder on the network home folder. Keychain Assistant First Aid says everything is hunky dory. The problem is that the login keychain won't show up on the keychain list, nor can I add it. If I delete the file from the networked location and run first aid again, it says the login keychain doesn't exist and proceeds to create it, just like I'd expect. Only problem is, the keychain still doesn't show and I can't use it!
So any time I try to save email passwords, Safari passwords, etc. it errors out. Going through the prompted reset dialogs doesn't seem to do anything. I'm not seeing any console messages pointing to errors, either.
    Anybody gon any ideas?

Ok then, I got one for you. Similar sort of thing. Just created a 10.6 server, created all the relevant users within WGM, then imported the home folders from the previous 10.5 server. Ensured all new UIDs matched the UIDs from the 10.5 WGM because it then simplifies permissions - i.e. all the permissions are recognised by the new server automatically for the right users.
Now for one of my users, her login keychain is never open by default. When you start Keychain Access (she's on 10.5.8 btw) you get the System keychain and the System Roots list of certificate authorities, but no login keychain.
Have checked the permissions of her ~/Library/Keychains/ folder and they're correct, as are the permissions for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain.
Double-clicking on the login.keychain file opens it up just fine in Keychain Access, however as soon as you close KA and re-open it, the login keychain's gone again.
I've tried importing a keychain, adding an existing keychain (obviously the login one) and creating a new keychain called login, none of which work - there's no error, it just ignores me.
I'd rather not create a temporary user account, transfer all the docsuments/mail etc, delete the original and recreate a new one using the old name and copy everything back, but unless someone can help me out, that's what I'm going to have to do.
There has to be some guru's out there somewhere that can help???
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

  • Login keychain going crazy

My login keychain is set (via Keychain first aid) to "always remain unlocked". However, it seems to lock itself from time to time anyway. (I've set the machine to require a password to unlock the screen saver.) Even when the menu bar shows it to be unlocked, applications like Safari and Mail still prompt for the Keychain password.

SSHKeychain is to blame for locking the login keychain. It has an advanced preference that can stop this.

  • Accidentally deleted Login Keychain

I accidentally wiped out my whole login keychain. Now, no matter what I do, I cant seem to save away any passwords again. for instance....my POP mail password...even tho i check the box to save the password and i successfully get into and download my mail..the next time i log on it asks me again.
also, on microsoft messenger....if check the box to have it remember my password...it will not work and will not log me on...but if i use the same password and DONT check the box...i get right in.
how do i fix this!!!??? even Safari wants to access that login keychain and its driving me crazy!!!!
    help!
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi,
    One thing you could try:
    Go to Applications/Utilities/KeyChange Access.
Open this application and double click on one of passwords listed there.
In the window that appears click on 'Access Control'.
Here you can specify if you want to be prompted for this password or not or to let all programs have access.
Changing the settings of your passwords in this manner may stop you being prompted each time.
    Hope this helps!
