Safari loses connection

Since moving to Maverick on an iMac 27" I am experiencing a slght but still annoying problem with Safari.
If I have not been using the machine for some time (minutes not hours) when I try to access a web site, could just be going to google, I get an error saying "not connected to the internet". By reloading the page a couple of times things will work.
Info: OSX 10.9.5
Also running an XP machine under Fusion: 6.0.4. Network adapter Bridged Ethernet with pre-assigned IP's.
Never had this sort of problem with any previous OS Versions and the other machines i our LAN don't have problems either. I have a OSX server running snow Leopard and a mac mini still on Lion.  Also I noticed that since going to Mavericks Firefox on the virtual machine takes minutes to start up. I am not sure if the problems are connected Also calling up any web-site on the virtual machine takes ages. Once a page responds it builds very fast so I think it is a connection problem with the host machine.
Anyone have any suggestions?
TIA

  • Safari loses start page

Safari loses internet connection, reboot macbook and it is ok for a short while then loses internet again,
Screen just freezes, no beach ball.  Going round in circles, shutting mackbook down or reloading passcode to reload internet.
Works for a short while then freezes again. Stays open long enough to read a post then it locks up agian. Can any one assist?

I 'contacted' Earthlink. Actually, 'support...live chat'. Here's the great advice I got...
.....Hello, I'm Dave. I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 and Safari 4.0.3. Since upgrading from Safari 3 to Safari 4, my start page...my.earthlink.net loads blank pages and sometimes freezes. NO other links or web sites do this. Does Earthlink have any info or fixes for this? Thx!
.....3 min wait ensues....says "hello, may I help"....
Solomon K: Okay, just try to click on the link given below and try to access the home page:
    Solomon K: http://my.earthlink.net
....I almost spewed; did he not read my question?!....of course I got a blank page again....
Solomon K: May be there is some problem with the Safari 4 browser you are using.
.....I almost responded, "Duh!" ....but held my tongue as it were....
Solomon K: The only option to fix the issue is to install any other browser in your computer.
Solomon K: I am sorry Safari 4 is a new browser and some time you will have compatible issue with it.
Solomon K: So the only option is to install a new browser.
    ....I responded...'so you have no idea?...thx...night-night' ...
Incredible. I could call, but the problem with phone 'support' is I'll no doubt get the same type person and answers. I reckon since this issue has persisted for so long (with many other users), I'll just revert to v3. Can't say I din try.

  • My Mac OS X 10.6.8 is wakes up slow, occasionally hangs, and my mouse loses connectivity fairly often.

Recently my Mac has been waking up very slow. It runs all applications slowly when I first start using it. It seems to be better after that. My mouse also loses connectivity several times a day, even with new batteries. Not sure if that is related. When I try to restart it Safari often won't close even when I force it.

I ran Etrecheck and this was the result.

  • Yahoo mail account drops out randomly. I have 2 yahoo mail accounts on my Mac. The primary account works fine but the second account loses connection.

II have 2 yahoo mail accounts on my Mac. The primary account works fine but the second account loses connection. When I put in the password I get a message that it is not the correct password. The only way round it appears to be to go into Yahoo on Safari, log out then log bck in again. If I then go back into Mail and right click on the account I cn then get mail for this account without having to enter a password. The problem only started when I installed Lion, but is still the same in Mountain Lion.

  • Airport loses connection but still shows 4 full bars

I've got a strange problem I haven't been able to figure out myself.
On my MacBook Core Duo (original 2006) on 10.6.2, my airport loses connection with my wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) after 5-10 minutes of use. My airport still shows a full signal, but I lose all connection (I cannot even see the router itself when I navigate to its IP address in Safari - normally I get the web based configuration panel). If I turn off Airport and then turn it back on again, I get my connection back for another 5-10 minutes.
    I am using WPA encryption.
I get this problem when my computer is far away from the router or very close.
I do not get this problem on our other computers - one Vista desktop and and two XP laptops.
I have no connection problems when I plug my modem directly to the MacBook via ethernet.
My only thought at this point: there are numerous (8-10) other 802.11x networks in my building. I've done my best to choose a free channel, but the best I can do is choose a channel only 1 channel away from others (i.e., choose 7 when others are on 6 and 8). I wonder if signal interference is an issue...but why would all my Windows machines have no problem?
I'm out of ideas at this point - I appreciate any help :)! Thanks!

I am having the SAME exact problem with my Mac. I have a late 2008 white 13" MacBook and it's been upgraded to Snow Leopard and I'm running version 10.6.2. I am wondering if any Apple employees can assist us on this issue or tell us if the impending 10.6.3 upgrade will have a fix for this.
My Airport will be connected to my wireless network and be working fine. As MBaker22 says, after 5 minutes the connection seems fine, the IP is fine, the network is fine and the network works for other laptops and desktops in my house BUT I can't access the Internet. All of a sudden I have no ability to check for software updates, browse the web or do anything that connects to the Internet.
Some other strangeness. When I try to hit the IP of my wireless router in my web browser, it asks me for credentials and then just sits there saying Connecting to 192.168.1.1...
It also only says connecting to www.google.com or www.cnn.com or www.yahoo.com when Airport is behaving this way.
If I plug in my Ethernet cord to my Mac everything works just fine so this is an Airport issue and probably an issue with Snow Leopard? I'm not sure.
Anyway the REALLY weird thing is that I can ping some websites and not others in the terminal when Airport starts behaving this way. That might be because of caching but either way.
Here's a TCPDUMP of my connection on Airport (en1) using Google DNS 8.8.8.8 (but if I use my ISP DNS it still does this):

  • Windows 7 Pro Client loses connectivity to internal Win2k8 web server

    1. affected workstation are Optiplex 380 running Win 7 pro sp1 with broadcom NICs.
    2. Internal users use a internal webserver for customer invoicing application. Users lose connectivity to this internal web server, all other networking works, network shares, internet, etc. If I try to ping the webserver IP I get no reply. XP
machines are not affected. Not a DHCP issue as there are plenty of IPs.
    3. I have tried different internal NICs (3com) but still had issue. I have upgraded BIOS, nic drivers. etc.
    4. I rebuilt one of the machines using Windows XP pro sp3 and have had no issue with that workstation.
the problem started a few months or so ago. I have not been able to determine the source. I tried running wireshark but nothing stuck out. I have changed the session settings on the IIS server from 15 minutes to 6 hours but did not make a difference.
    5. Today when client lost connectivity to the server I tried pinging from the server back to the client and the connection was restored. This issue really has me confused as I cannot find anything in the logs that sticks out.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your question.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Remote app on iPad connects to iTunes but then loses connection.

    Hi,
Basically, I can get the app on my  iPad to connect to iTunes, but if I then start doing something else on my iPad, or my computer goes to sleep, then the remote won't connect again. Even if I wake my macbook and try to connect it again.
If I press 'add an iTunes library' in the remote app, nothing appears on iTunes.
To solve the problem, I have to restart my computer.
I just checked to see if my iPhone connects and it worked straight away. Maybe its a problem with my iPad?
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Oscar

I too have this problem and made it worse. Under Mavericks and iOS7 everything set up very easily and worked beautifully like Apple stuff usually does. Then a couple of weeks ago I took the dive and updated to Yosemite, iTunes 12 and iOS8 and then I would occasionally lose connection with my iTunes library as described by the second poster. Very aggravating. So I made a bigger mistake and deleted the library from my iPad Remote app and whenever I started it up again it would say 'Add a device'. I clicked and a randomly generated 4 digit number appears with the exact instructions: 'To add an iTunes library, open iTunes on your computer and choose Remote from the tab bar'. I went to iTunes and searched EVERYWHERE for this Remote tab bar and could not find it. I then went to iTunes Preferences: Devices and clicked the button 'Forget All Remotes' thinking this may reset something in iTunes and make the Remote tab appear somehow to start from scratch. Wrong! Now there is absolutely no connection between the Remote app on my devices and iTunes on my computer.
Can anyone point me to this Remote tab in iTunes?? If I can find that then I think I should be able to fix this.
Geez, talk about effing up what should be (and was) a very simple app.

I have tried restarding the browsers, deleting the cookies and a few other stuff but nothing seems to be working..
This is a new Mac ANd I havent installed many programms in it.

You, or someone using your computer, changed the network settings in an attempt to bypass copyright restrictions on Netflix. The illegal DNS server you're using should never have been trusted and now doesn't work.
Delete all the DNS servers by selecting them and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom of the list. You may have to unlock the settings first by clicking the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and entering your administrator login password when prompted.
If the server addresses are grayed out and can't be deleted, even with the preference pane unlocked, then the change was made on your router. Refer to its documentation to find out how to reverse the change. The router should get its DNS settings automatically from the ISP.
Click OK, then Apply. The DNS server list should be repopulated automatically with the address of your router, or the addresses of the DNS servers provided by your ISP. If that doesn't happen, open the TCP/IP tab of the preferences and click Renew DHCP Lease. If you're not using DHCP, manually enter the DNS server addresses you got from your ISP, or else use these temporarily:

  • HP Officejet 4620 All-in-One Loses Connection to Wireless Network When It Goes Into Sleep Mode

My HP 4620 All-In-One wireless printer works fine until it goes into sleep mode.  Once it goes into sleep mode, it doesn't wake up if a print job is sent to it.  If I wake it up manually by pressing the blinking on/off button, it still doesn't print.  If I completely turn it off and then on again, the print job that was queued on my computer will start printing, but that's a huge pain and waste of time nearly every time I want to print.  I've installed all available updates.  I also assigned a static IP address in an effort to correct this but nothing helps.  I see that others have complained about this problem, but I do not see that anyone has had success resolving this.  My operating system is Windows Vista.  I use a Link-Sys Wireless G Router.  Thanks.
    This question was solved.

so I have called HP tech support 12 times over the last 6 weeks and still my HP Officejet 4620 loses connection overnight. Of course becasue it was a birthday present I spent more time than I normally would have on this issue. While the tech are very polite they have not fixed my problem and now it is too late to return printer to store. This is a lot of money wasted and I think they need to admit this is a bug in this printer and resolve the problem!!!!!

  • Officejet Pro l7580 Constantly loses connection to wireless laptop!!

    Hi and thanks for helping.
I have an Offiecejet Pro L7580 and use it on my network, servicing a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is wired to the router while the laptop is wireless. Concerning my desktop, the printer connection is solid. It is 100% dependable. My laptop is a completely different story. I noticed that it would connect just fine and print, scan, etc... But after about 10-15 minutes it tells me that it is disconnected. This has been a continuous problem. Both systems use win.7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I found out that if I go into my D-Link DI-524 wireless router and change my wireless channel from one to another, it automatically reconnects. This means that my printer... or laptop is losing a connection due to channel activity. I have tried multiple channels in case of wireless interference from other devices. It happens all the same. This either sounds like a printer firmware problem that loses connection when the router channel cycles, or my laptops network card (even though I never lose connection to the internet). My laptop uses a buffalo mini usb wifi adapter (thanks to a widely known problem of DV series factory defects).
Please help me find out what the problem is.
    Thanks,
    Jason

Here are a few things to try:
    1. Update the firmware on your router.
    2. Set a static IP address for your printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.0.100 to .199  Enter 192.168.0 220 for the IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • IPad3 loses connection to home network and same happens to laptops.

I purchased the new IPad a week ago. Since then, I often lose connection to home network. Cannot join network unless I power off and on the modem/router. This also hapens every morning. The same is now happening with our  wireless laptops.  Never had any problems all these years until the iPad was introduced to our network. Our Internet provider confirmed that modem/router protocols were set per advice from Apple Support and they did additional tweaking but problem persists. I am thinking of getting a new modem and router but wonder if it is worth it. Has anyone had similar problems where their other devices are having the same connection issues as the iPad? Thanks.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

I'm connecting to my home LAN via WiFi connection to a TP-Link 300M Wireless router that is setup as a switch (per instructions here http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=417), which in turn is connected via wire (ethernet-over-power) to a Technicolor cable modem/router provided by my ISP (UPC in the Netherlands; I can look up the model number of the router if needed, but it's two floors down right now and doesn't strike me that this is the cause of the problem).
I have a problem that my MacBook Air intermittently loses connectivity to the internet for extended periods (minutes) even though (a) the MacBook Air maintains full connectivity to my LAN at the same time through WiFi and (b) other computers connected to the cable modem/router maintain their connection to the internet while my MacBook Air has lost its connection.
My test to see where the breakdown is occurring is to have four terminal windows up and running ping processes:
    1) ping to 192.168.0.1 (my router) - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets
    2) ping to an external address (I'm using 74.125.136.94, a google.nl address) - this is my main test for access to the internet and where I see ping failures (I'm also testing with pings to other sites when the problem is occurring to ensure it's not something on the remote end).
    3) ping to 192.168.0.13, which is a Synology NAS attached via ethernet cable to my main cable modem/router - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets.
    4) a login to the Synology NAS, where I am also running a continual ping to 74.125.136.94, and this external ping does NOT fail when the one from my MacBook Air does, it stays live with essentially no lost packets.
The problem will usually correct itself after 1-3 minutes (though the time is not consistent), and also gets corrected if I turn the MacBook Air's WiFi off and on again.
Any suggestions for what I can do to stop this problem?
    Thanks
    John

No. If connected to WiFI served by Technicolor, the problem does not occur (even if the other AP is connected to the network).
    >     b. can the Technicolor be replaced easily by an Airport Express/Extreme, to repeat this test?
Unfortunately, Technicolor in router mode is required by my ISP.
    > 2. Instead of WiFi, if the MBA is cabled to the secondary AP, is the behavior the same?
    Yes.
    > 3. Has Wireless RF interference been ruled out for dropped connections?
Yes. A Windows machine and several iOS mobile devices work flawlesly for me.
    > 4. If the MBA has a wired connection to the Technicolor, does the problem still exist?
No. The problem occurs only if connected through additional AP.
    > 5. Have packets been captured at each interesting point in the topology to see where are packets drops occurring? netstat -s is probably worth looking at > such points. Wireshark (or similar tools) can help.
Not yet. I will not have a chance to do it for the next few days though :/

  • Apple remote app loses connection

I am using the remote app to control my Itune on my computer on Vista. I am able to initiate the connection. But when I close the remote and re-open I still see the library but I am not able to open it.
I able to reconnect if disable and re-enable home sharing.
    *I have no firewall activated
    *WiFi conection working perfectly
*Same problem from my Ipad and my Ipod.
I did all recommend troubleshooting from apple with no success. I read a lot of post on web about that problem but it seems that it should had been fix in the latest version.
    Any idea
    Thanks.

I have the same / similar problem.
Just after starting iTunes (10.1.2) I can see the library in remote (2.1), can connect and control iTunes.
This works fine for a couple of minutes, then the remote app loses connection to iTunes. The library turns from black to grey in settings, can nor be found nor added.
I have tried this on two different Vista PCs and three different routers with all firewalls turn off.
Looks like a straight forward bug to me. Any ideas please?
