I 'contacted' Earthlink. Actually, 'support...live chat'. Here's the great advice I got...
.....Hello, I'm Dave. I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 and Safari 4.0.3. Since upgrading from Safari 3 to Safari 4, my start page...my.earthlink.net loads blank pages and sometimes freezes. NO other links or web sites do this. Does Earthlink have any info or fixes for this? Thx!
.....3 min wait ensues....says "hello, may I help"....
Solomon K: Okay, just try to click on the link given below and try to access the home page:

....I almost spewed; did he not read my question?!....of course I got a blank page again....
Solomon K: May be there is some problem with the Safari 4 browser you are using.
.....I almost responded, "Duh!" ....but held my tongue as it were....
Solomon K: The only option to fix the issue is to install any other browser in your computer.
Solomon K: I am sorry Safari 4 is a new browser and some time you will have compatible issue with it.
Solomon K: So the only option is to install a new browser.
....I responded...'so you have no idea?...thx...night-night' ...
Incredible. I could call, but the problem with phone 'support' is I'll no doubt get the same type person and answers. I reckon since this issue has persisted for so long (with many other users), I'll just revert to v3. Can't say I din try.

  • Safari/Earthlink Start Page Unstable

Beginning with installation of Safari 4.0, my Earthlink domain default browser home page became unstable. Intermittently the page loads, flashes the content then goes blank. The page header is displayed but no content. It takes two or three reload attempts before the page content remains stable. This also happens regularly when navigating back and forth between the home page and selected sites on the the main page.
I've tried most of the fixes you can readily think of. Apple sez to reinstall OS X (ugh). Using Safari, with Firefox as the browser, eliminates the problem. Unfortunately I have an extensive number of download sites saved with Earthlink.

  • Safari Apple start page, top sites and history blurry

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? I recently installed a new graphics card HD 6950 and I noticed right away that apple.com on safari as well as top sites and history browser is blurry. It's clear for a split second that slowly becomes blurry in about half a second. Every other site is normal and the video card doesn't have problems on games. Viewing apple.com on IE looks normal also. I've tried installing different drivers but still no luck. Here's a shot of what its like for me:

  • Trouble with safari. Impossible to keep starting page

Since few days, I can't keep the starting page. When opening Safari, the start page is Apple web site in France: I tried to save my favorite start page but Apple in France keeps going

Might be corrupted Safari preferences ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.
Quit Safari if it's open then relaunch. Go to Safari > Preferences > General and reset your homepage.
If that doesn't help, press Command + Option + E on your keyboard to empty the Safari cache. Quit and relaunch Safari and reset your homepage.

  • Apple Start page no longer works with Safari 1.3.2?

I just set up an iBook G3 with Mac OS X 10.3.9, with all updates, and opened Safari, which is set to got to the Apple Start page initially:
    http://www.apple.com/startpage
Safari loads the page, but two areas are blank: the "Hot News Headlines" in the middle of the page, and the "iTunes Movie Trailers" on the left side. No content appears in these areas. If I click on the "All" next to "Hot News Headlines" a page of html-code text appears.
When I load this page in Firefox or Camino, these areas have the expected content: text in "Hot News Headlines" and a picture in "iTunes Movie Trailers".
I know Safari 1.3.2 is pretty old now, and cannot be upgraded to anything later, since it's integrated with 10.3.9; for this reason I recommend using a more current browser such as Camino or Firefox with this System. But I was just wondering: has anyone else seen this behavior? Is Apple's own web page now too much for Safari 1.x to handle?

    Hi HandyMac,
Yes, Safari v1.3.2 is quite dated by today's standards. And yes, the Apple StartPage doesn't work for me either 100% on Safari v1.3.2.
Most Panther users have migrated to Camino. FireFox 2 is no longer updated for Panther either.
On Panther I use Opera and SeaMonkey.

  • Safari doesn't open in start page

    Hi everybody,
since I have installed Mac OS X Lion, Safari doesn't open in start page. It opens always at the last page I was at least. What can I do?

    Try this:
    Open ‘System Preferences’
Locate and open the ‘General’ menu
Near the bottom uncheck the box that says “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”

  • On MacBook Pro unable to print webpage; I get a single blank page. But I can print using Safari. Started last week while using Firefox 3.6. I downloaded Firefox 5.0--same problem.

I am now able to do live broadcasts with my i-sight, but my original problem still exisits....
Unsolved Problem:I need to be able to broadcast from CamTwist as CamTwist is the only program that will allow me to do what I need to do.   Justin.tv and Ustream.tv do not recognize CamTwist for reasons I can not explain.

  • I have accidentally change my "Apple start-page" to one that does not have "search" window.  How do I get back to my original Safari start up page?

When I am in safari and go to a site, I now do not have a place to "search".  I accidently lost the original page that appears when going to safari.  How do I get back to my original "start-page" that I started with?

I think you may mean the search box on the toolbar.  In Safari click on the View menu and select Show Toolbar.
Alternatively, if you mean the 'Home Page' then open Safari -> Preferences -> General and next to 'Homepage' put in the address of the page you want - I'm guessing "http://www.google.com/".

  • Change Start Page to Safari From Firefox

The Mac G4 I bought on eBay is configured to use "Mozilla FireFox" as the start page.  How do I change it so that "Safari" will be the start page?

You want to say that you want to use Safari as the default Internet browser. To do it, open Safari, go to Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and choose Safari as your default web browser

    Hello,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Earthlink Start Page with Safari Obscured by Google Search Bar??

Earthlink's personal start page inserts a Google search bar at the top of first page. Instead of moving up out of the way, when scrolling down, the Google bar follows at the top of the page. If the page is swiped diagonally, to expand the content, the Google bar expands proportionally obscuring the content of the page. Expanding the page is usually necessary because of the small print size on the small iPhone screen. If the page is expanded enough, the Google bar obscures all the page content. Both Earthlink and Apple do not acknowledge the responsibility or resorces to address the problem. This makes using Earthlink, as an ISP with Safari, as your home page unacceptable?? Any suggestions other than switching browsers on the iPhone??

Complain to Earthlink. They coded the page. It's their problem.

  • Restore old firefox logo to firefox start page & lose crazy tail fox logo

Within the last few days my regular firefox logo appearing on firefox start page changed on my desktop (windows xp), and two laptops (windows 8 & windows 8.1). The logos all changed around the same time. The normal logo (orange fox holding blue globe) is now an orange fox (holding globe) with a crazy out of control tail that wildly circles around the globe a couple of times. No longer cute & compact but instead takes up a lot of space & really bothers me. Firefox was one of the few browsers I allowed to do automatic updates, but I will modify those settings since I have had so much trouble trying to change the logo back. My update history shows update 32.0.3 was installed 9/24/14 & update 32.0.2 installed 10/30/14, which seems odd to me since 32.0.3 would seem to come after 32.0.2. (There is no cartoon character saying "click me" nor are there any snippets, and I do not wish to block the regular brand logo, just want to get rid of this crazy tail logo).
I appreciate your help on this as this crazy tail logo is driving me crazy! Thank you very much.

Alternatively you can use these steps to disable the snippets on the about:home page:
    * Set the <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> pref to an empty string on the <b>about:config</b> page
    * Open the <b>about:home</b> page in a tab
    * Open Web Console in this tab (Firefox menu button > Developer or Tools > Web Developer)<br>https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Web_Console
    * Run this command via the command prompt of the web console:<br /><b>gSnippetsMap.clear()</b>
    * Close the tab with the <b>about:home</b> page
    * Close and restart Firefox
