Safari/Mail icon home screen reset moving issue

I ran into an interesting issue earlier today when I was resetting the home screen layout of my iphone 4S. I attempted to move the safari and mail app icons out of the bottom tray (while the icons were "wiggling") and for some reason they would not come out. I hit the home button to stop the icon wiggling and attempted to move them again. No go. The phone and message icons moved out without an issue, but safari and mail would not.
I shut the iphone off and turned it back on and re-attempted it. This time it worked.
How come I am unable to take and move those two icons off that bottom bar right after doing a home screen reset? Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I Have the same problem on my new iPad Air.

  • Safari & mail Icons will not stay in the Dock?

Two days ago I noticed that both Safari & Mail icons were not in the dock. I opened applications and returned them, they just vanish, when I open them from apps they both work OK.
I have worked round the problem by using an alias and placing that in the dock. Any way I can get back to were I was?

When you launch the applications and Control-click on their icons in the Dock, do you see "Keep in Dock" or "Remove from Dock" in the contextual menu? If the menu says "Keep in Dock," click on that setting.
Forgive me if you knew this, because I can't tell from your description if this is relevant or not: Normally, application icons will appear in the Dock when the application is running and disappear from the Dock when you quit the application, unless you have set the application icon to stay in the Dock via the above method or by dragging the application file to the Dock. (Dragging the icon out of the Dock will have the reverse effect, the same as choosing "Remove from Dock," and I'm thinking that might be what happened that caused your icons to disappear from the Dock after quitting.) Creating an alias of the application and placing that in the Dock is a workaround, but shouldn't be necessary.
If the above doesn't work, something odd is going on with your Dock indeed. Post back and people will help troubleshoot further.

  • My mail is set up but when I touch the mail icon the screen is blank with a message saying 'no message selected' then goes straight to home page. I have rebooted, deleted and reloaded my email account but nothing is working.

My mail is set up and it comes up with 75 messages received but when I click onto the mail icon the page is blank(White) with the message 'no message selected' and then goes to the homepage.  I have rebooted the iPad and deleted and reloaded my mail account but nothing works.

The app is crashing for some reason - maybe an email with a very large attachment or some crappy spam email is messing things up. Quit the mail app.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close mail by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the mail app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close it.  Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If mail still crashes, go to your webmail in a browser and see if you have an email in there that might be causing a problem and delete it. Then try the app again. If necessary, quit the app, restart the iPad and then try again.
If that doesnt help, try a reset. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Iphone 4s in settings can't access Notes or Mail.  Also can't access mail from home screen. Can't send email. All else is good.

I need help. I have reset my iphone. I have turned it off then on. Still can't launch my built in mail app from home screen. When I try it goes to blank page then right back to home screen view.
In settings for the iphone 4s I can not access Notes or Mail, Contacts,Calendars. When I tap either of the two they highlight in blue and then go right back to Home Screen view. I seem to be able to access everything else in settings with no trouble.
From home screen I have no trouble I can launch the built in utility Notes with no problem. I also can launch Calendars from Home Screen view. My Contacts are still reachable by tapping Phone from H/S view then clicking on contacts.
I can not launch mail. nor can I send email. Also the built in mail app is not showing it is recieving mail either. All else seems fine.
I can log in to my email from Safari on iphone and from my laptop with no problem.
Anyone have any suggestions?  My iphone is out of warranty. Apples only suggestions are To pay for support.
    Thanks in advance

Just had a thought....was trying to rememberif anything changed last night. I think I installed a mac OS X Security update. That's about the time the trouble started. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Safari crashes to home screen

    Can anyone help me?
When I am using safari to view a web page my iTouch suddenly goes back to the home screen - even though I did not press the home button at the bottom.
It has happened several times now. I have tried resetting safari in "settings" but that does not seem to work as it happened again soon after I did that.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks very much.
When you say "known issue" do you mean that it happens to you as well? Or do you mean that Apple know about it and are trying to fix it?
My iTouch is brand new (16gb model) and I have only been using it a few days.

    Hi there rrfaff,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

  • Safari "Add to Home Screen" Gone

I recently did a fresh restore to my phone because it was acting a little buggy and now it seems that the "Add to Home Screen" function in Safari is now missing. I have a screen capture of it here: http://img.skitch.com/20100818-kbhen3hsrx2i6u66ru63mnbaya.png
I tried searching everywhere to see if it was removed from the newest update and checked all the settings and could seem to figure out or find why its gone. It appears to be not being discussed anywhere so I figured I turn here.
If anyone could help, it would mean a lot because I use that function a lot and its bugging me not to have it.
    Thanks in advance!
    I am running 4.0.2 on iOS 4 on a 3Gs iPhone.

I fixed it by resetting using home key & off button

  • Safari crashing to home screen

This is getting really annoying. Every single time that I use Safari, it crashes and sends me to the home screen. This crash will occur anytime within seconds to a few minutes after beginning to load a page. I have cleared the cache and everything else and the problem still persists.
In anticipation of a crash I stopped a webpage while it was loading this afternoon. I did this so this so that I could read the text on the page which had already loaded. Despite the fact that the webpage was no longer loading, SAFARI STILL CRASHED about 30 seconds after the loading was stopped.
I see this problem posted and there seems to be no solution. Does this affect every single iPhone?
FWIW, I pretty much only use edge and not wifi. I have 4 free gigs of space on the iphone. I am using Vista at home. Software version on the phone is 1.1.3. I've owned it since a day after MacWorld. It has never been jailbroken.

Try a Reset by pressing and holding the Home button and Sleep/Wake or On/Off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and the release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so.
If this allows Safari to load a website, quit Safari by pressing and holding the Home button until the iPhone returns to the Home screen. This quits the application.
Then clear the Safari cache, cookies and history.
Power your iPhone off and on or do another Reset.
If this doesn't resolve it, time to give AppleCare a call - (800) 694-7466.

  • Safari returns to Home screen

When changing websites in Safari our iPad often goes blank and returns to the home screen. Just recently started in the year that we have had it. Other applications seem to work fine.

You can try this next. You can remove databases in Safari. I'm not sure it will do any good but it will not hurt anything.
You can go to Settings>Safari>Databases. If you don't see databases under the Accept Cookies field in the setting then it doesn't matter and this theory is shot. If databases is listed - tap it and it takes you to the next window that shows all of the databases in Safari. Tap edit and remove them - or at least see if one or more of those databases is from the sites that are causing Safari to crash. If they are, by all means delete them and that may help. It does no harm to remove these because when you return to that site again the databases will reload. I delete mine from time to time. If you see one that is close to the size limit alloted for that database, it may be causing an issue. Restart the iPad after you do this.
Your theory about removing apps may still hold water. You may have not hit on the one that is causing the problem yet. One other thing you can try is to download an app - any free app - see if Safari works OK after you try that. This  seems to be a new "fix" that sometimes works for apps that crash. Again - no promises - but it will do no harm to try. You can always delete the app if you don't want it.

  • I have an iPhone4. I am unable to open my Mail icon - the screen comes up blank even though the icon shows 182 unread emails waiting. I uninstalled my email accounts and re-installed them - no change in the problem. Other apps work.

On my iPhone4, when I hit the Mail Icon I come up with a blank screen, though the Icon shows 182 unread emails waiting to be viewed. I uninstalled my mail accounts, and then re-installed them with no success. Other apps work fine

  • Home screens resetting?

    Hey all,
I have a 3GS running 3.1.3 (7E18) and 05.12.01. I've got a lot of apps which are organised into different screens, trouble is every so often at random they reset and they go back to their default/order they were downloaded in.
    Any ideas why?
The phone was plugged into the charger and not to my mac. So I thought ok, if I sync they'd go back to how I organised them? But nope.

    Any ideas why?
Either this is a manifestation of paranormal activity infecting your phone, or there are corrupted code or settings... It sounds like the Reset Home Screen Layout function is being activated somehow.
Thy the following basic troubleshooting steps as required:
    1. Reset phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears. (No data or settings deleted.)
    2. Restore phone in iTunes using a backup.
    3. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    4. Restore in iTunes as new iPhone.
If none of the above helps, there may be a hardware problem and make an appt. with an Apple Store Genius Bar.

  • Searching icon home screen always working

on my iPhone 6, when i am on the icon screen, next to the wifi identifier i see a little circle that rotates.  Generally it means that it is searching for something.  It never stops.  The minute i go into a program or lock the phone, it goes away.  I reset the network settings and that seemed to do the trick, but 2 days later it started up again.  I am not sure what it is looking for.  I went so far as to completely turn off location services and background app refresh (at the same time) yet it still does it.
I do notice that the phone drains battery a lot more than my old iPhone 4 no OS6 did. I also notice that cell reception is not as good as my iPhone 4.  At my desk i used to get 3 bars, now i get 1 or 2 if i am lucky.  Places in my office where i used to be able to get calls, now do not work at all.  I am not sure if it is the phone or my carrier.
    Any ideas?

You are accidentally activating the zoom feature.  Double tap with 3 fingers to reset.  Read the User Guide to learn how to deactivate the zoom feature permanently.
