Safari Menu Tabs

In Safari, how can I set the trackpad to open menu links in a new tab with Better Touch Tool? I tried assigning a gesture to 'CMD Click' and it doesn't open a new tab. Any ideas?

I don't use BTT but you might want to check Safari > Preferences.. > tabs tab > check "CMD-click opens a link in a new tab".

  • What's up with the Develop Safari menu item?

I recently noticed on this MBP a Safari menu tab labeled "Develop" which is located between the Bookmarks and Window menu items.
On my other MBP there is no such menu item.
I have the Apple developer installed on both boxes, so that's not necessarily the reason.
Under this Develop menu item are such odd items as
    Show Snippet Editor
    Show Web Inspector
    and many other interesting items.
Does anyone else have this item and if so, how did it get there?
I just found out the answer myself.
It's selectable in the Preference->Advanced menu
    Try it - it's interesting.

As far as I can make out the Develop menu replaces the old Debug menu. The Debug menu was somewhat arcane, requiring a 3d-party utility program or a Terminal command to make it appear. In early versions of Safari, I believe there was a means to send Safari bug reports to Apple (now moved to the Safari menu).
I used Debug mostly for websites that didn't recognize or weren't compatible with Safari. The User Agent option, that allows Safari to address websites as if it were a different browser, was very helpful. There was a period of several months, before my bank geared up for Safari, when I had to pretend to be using IE in order to access my account. There is still the occasional page that works best with IE, but that's becoming ever more rare.
In the current OS 10.5.4 (Safari 3.1.2), the Terminal command no longer activates the Debug menu. And, the User Agent option appears in the new Develop menu. Also, the Develop menu is neater, i.e., fewer, better-organized options and nicer windows. Finally, as you note, it's more-easily accessible, from within Safari itself, so I assume it represents Apple's most-recent conclusion as to how to deal with these "hidden" features that most users will never need.

  • I think there is a bug in safari......Whenever i swipe my fingers for going to the previous page on safari the tabs open get hanged up and i have to restart safari. This is a serious issue.!

    Serious issue.....

Might be a Safari extension issue...
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Safari's Tabs Acting Strange After 10.6.4 Update

    Hi guys,
After the 10.6.4 update Safari's tabs have been acting strangely. Say I have Apple.com open in one tab and I hit Apple-T to open a new tab. It then changes that tab (which Apple.com was loaded on) to the Top Sites, keeps the focus on this tab, then opens a blank tab right next to it. I effectively lose the page I was using and a blank one appears. Any ideas as to how to fix this?
    Thanks for the help!

    HI,
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still having problems...
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
And if you didn't repair disk permissions after you updated Safari, it's a good idea to do that.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Safari opens Tabs again, even after quitting them!

    Hi guys,
I'm having some annoying troubles with Safari for about 2 weeks now...
When I quit Safari, it should normally reload all my last opened pages (f.ex: google, facebook, apple and twitter), but instead it ALLWAYS reopens the same 2 tabs (some minecraft site + facebook). this is pretty annoying because it does not go away. I've allready tried everything... closing tabs with cmd-W before quitting safari, checking and unchecking the "reopen windows" setting (wich btw rechecks itself after I quit an reopen "system preferences").
anyone out there having the same problem?
    please help me
    thank you

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now. If you skip this step, no one but you will be responsible for the consequences.
    Quit Safari if it’s running.
Select /Applications/Safari in the Finder and open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in that window labeled “Open in 32-bit mode.” If that box is checked, uncheck it. Close the window.
Hold down the option key and select Go > Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the folder that opens (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Caches/Metadata/Safari
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Try Safari again. If it still doesn’t work right, quit again and move the following file to the Desktop:
    Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Then delete the following items (some may not exist):
    Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
    Cookies/Cookies.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    PubSub/Database
    Safari
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. Select File > Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the old bookmarks file.

  • I was using Safari , 5 tabs open, when my macbook pro just stopped working .What can i do ??

I was using Safari , 5 tabs open, when my macbook pro just stopped working .What can i do ??

Press the Power button for about 10 seconds to shutdown the computer. Wait a couple of minutes then restart. If it restarts OK, then immediately repair the hard drive:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Can't See Dark Safari's Tabs?  Move It Down To Eye Level.

I've seen a few posts here remarking that Safari's tabs and toolbar are dark enough to be unreadable on Leopard.
Having finally moved from my old 20-inch G5 to a new Intel machine, I've noticed the same problem. The tabs are so dark I can't tell where one ends and the next begins.
By chance, however, I noticed that this is controlled by Safari's position on the screen. I usually run it almost fullscreen, with the tabs and toolbars at the top of the screen.
However, if I move Safari down the screen so the tabs are level with, or below, the level of my eyes, they are quite legible and easy to read.
I'd still like to see Apple fiddle with the tabs and toolbars so this isn't an issue, but thought this might be useful info to others who are irritated because they can't see their tabs.

It's also possible that your screen suffers from "burn in" in which a section of it has less light output than other parts from the Safari menu sitting on one spot so long.
To check your screen, change the background to a solid light color and examine it closely.

My safari menu bar is missing.  The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc.  I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer.  Any ideas how to retrieve it?  Thanks.

I too was having the same problem However, I could access both the menu bar and the dock by hovering my mouse over them so it wasn't a huge problem but I prefered having it there anyway. I was not in full screen mode and I could still go into full screen mode if I wanted to.  I found the easiest solution was to just quit safai and restart it, but it might not work for you considering you couldn't access you menu bar either way.
I found this article that allows you to hide/show the menu bar and the dock through TextEdit (didn't work for me) http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/07/hide-the-menubar-or-dock-in-specific-app s.html It is pretty old so it might not work for lion and a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing so I wouldn't really recommend doing it this way.
And KSheppard, I know it's not really any of my buisness, but the way to get answers to a question isn't by insulting others and being quick-tempered. Even if you feel like you were insulted first, don't try snapping at people who aren't obligated to help you. Honestly, it just makes everything easier if everybody is cooperative and polite.

  • Is there a way to backup my bookmarks from the bookmarks menu tab?

After recently having a problem reinstalling my old bookmarks, I'm now wondering if there is a easy way to backup my very recent bookmarks, when I enter my bookmarks from the menu tab? I don't see a link within the bookmarks tab to do so. It would be nice to see a specific link within the bookmarks tab to do such a function. Does anyone have any solutions, or know a way to quickly backup my bookmarks? Thank you.

  • How do I turn off frequently visited in safari new tab.

How do I turn off frequently visited in safari new tab.  Note, I still want favorites to show.  But I feel it is inappropriate for safari to track frequently visited sites.  I wish I could use private browsing more, but I hate that keychain doesn't work in private mode.  Also, why can't I turn history completely off?

To turn on private browsing, tap Safari, then tap in the lower-right corner. Tap Private to turn private browsing on.
Note: If you're using an iPad, tap , then Private.
Tap again > turn off private.

  • How do you make the Safari menu bars at the top and bottom of the browser go away in iOS7 when you can't scroll the screen?

The menu bar at the bottom of Safari screens only goes away if you scroll the screen.  But for one page content, the screen can't be scrolled which renders useless any links/buttons at the bottom of the page.
Is there a fix for this in iOS7?
In iOS6, users needed only to tap the screen to remove the Safari menu bars.  This does not work in iOS6.

  • If i open a new window instead of a new tab, in the new window does not appear the menu tab

i want to open new windows instead of tabs and in the new window should appear the menu tab and scrolling up and down, but now with the new version the menu tab does not appear and i cannot scroll up and down.

Do you mean opening a window via the File menu (File > New Window) or do you always want to open links that you click on web pages in a new window?

This can happen due to OIM-LDAP wrong attribute mapping/value getting passed.
Can you please first try with OOTB attributes and see how it behaves?
