Safari MP3 File: Native Player vs. QuickTime Plug-In

Hi, everyone
I noticed that if I directly go to the URL of some MP3s, Safari will load it in its default player. However, certain other MP3s are opened using the QuickTime Plug-In in Safari.
I was wondering what causes the MP3s to be handled differently?
Thanks a lot!

  • Clicks and pops when QuickTime plays mp3 files in Safari

    When I use Safari to play a mp3 file which opens with Quicktime in a new window, the playback is full of tiny clicks and pops. It sounds like there is a conversion (from 44,1kHz to 48kHz) problem, but I don't know how to be sure - or how to change settings to avoid this. It happens with streaming mp3 files from everywhere (not only a single website).
    Anybody else experiencing this?
    Helge K.

    No, it's not just you: I get this too.
    I can play the same files with any other app sans click, including QT player itself when it's not inside Safari
    Very annoying. Did you find a fix?
    cheers

    No that is not the problem, it works with windows and I have done it before, just not with a mac

  • How do you convert an MP3 file to play in iTunes.

    I followed the directions in the Technical Support Section and when I highlight the file and click on it, the advanced tab doesn't allow you to highlight the "convert" option since it only appears in light grey. Any suggestions?

    Ok. Are you sure that they are .mp3 files? In iTunes, highlight one of the offending files and Get Info. What does it say on the Summary tab next to format? Does it say MPEG-1, Layer 3? If yes, it's an .mp3 file. If not, what does it say. If it really is an mp3 file, opening it with Quicktime. What happens? If it's an mp3 file, it may have corrupted tag information. iTunes is rather sensitive to that. You can try going to the Advanced menu in iTunes and selecting Convert ID3 tags.... I'd choose version 2.4 and see if that helps.
    Best of luck.

  • Why does safari/quicktime plugin not allow me to save mp3 files

    hello,
    there is a website allowing me to download mp3 files. But unlike windows where I can do "save as" -there is no such option available in safari/quicktime plugin.
    is it that apple doesn't want me to save any mp3 files?

  • Quicktime "plug-in failure" in safari 8.0.5

    I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 and get a quicktime "plug-in failure" in safari 8.0.5 when playing mov files at http://www.time-science.com/timescience/timelapse.asp

    So it's something unique to my setup
    I wonder how to fix it.
    Tried uninstalling adobe flash, restarting and reinstalling as I noticed that idea in some web searching
    This is what I get for the "Flowers":
    Sorenson Video 3 is a legacy codec that is only passively supported under Yosemite. QT 7 and the QT browser plug-in can still play this content. However, QT 7 Pro can only export to this compression format if the codec is turned back on by the user. (I.e., active QT export support of the "legacy" codecs was turned off under Lion.) Further, Sorenson Video 3 is neither QT X or QL "playback" compatible but can be converted natively by QT Player v10.4 if desired.
    Not sure if your error message is supposed to indicate that the QT browser plug-in is missing or is simply corrupted. Problem could also be in the way the web site is coded to play the files but I am not a site programmer so it would do me little good to examine the code use. On the other hand, I do already have a "Test" web site set up for a user trying to get his files to play in an older version of Safari so I added test pages for the Sorenson files from the site you referenced. See if you can play them from my alternate test pages. If they play there, then the problem may be site, otherwise, if they still don't play, you may need to reinstall the browser software.

  • Safari no longer plays mp3 files (OS X 10.9.5 Safari 7.1). Help!

    I have a 6-month-old MacBook Pro (13" Classic) running OS X 10.9.5. I use Safari 99% of the time to browse the web (version 7.1). Quicktime Player 10.3.
    All of a sudden (this week), Safari has stopped playing mp3 files. I have always been able to click on a link to an mp3 file and it would play in the browser. Now, this has stopped working. It does open a black page with the audio scroll bar showing. However, the arrow will not respond if I click it and it just says "Loading..." forever.
    What's up?!

    Force quit Safari and relaunch it while holding down the shift key.

  • Stopping Quicktime opening MP3 files in IE8 on Vista

    When I updated to iTunes version 9, Quicktime was also updated to version 7.6.4
    Now, whenever I click on a link to an mp3 file in IE8, it opens in a new browser in Quicktime, and, as I do not have and do not want Quicktime pro, I am unable to save the file. This is a real pain, as I cannot download the mp3 file. An example of this is the Snickers website, which uses Flash, so there is no option to click on the link and "save target as" and clicking on a download link just opens the file in a new IE8 browser in Quicktime. At present, MP3s are associated with iTunes, which is what I want. I have tried what has been suggested elsewhere and changed this association to Windows Media Player and then back to iTunes, but this has not helped. I have tried disabling the Quicktime IE 8 plugin, but this just opens a browser with a message telling me that the plug-in is disabled.
    Please can anyone tell me how to stop Quicktime doing this and allow the files to be saved?
    Many Thanks

    BUT... the site checks you are not a kid (don't worry, it's not an adult site, just a MR T themed Mars Snickers Bar site), so this link will probably take you to an enter your age page. If that happens, you will need to enter your age, then select More from the menu and then select loud and proud.
    Once on the downloads page then select any of the sound bites.
    Thanks again for your help

  • How do I specify quicktime plugin for use by mp3 files on ppc mac

    In the Applications section of Firefox Preferences I find no way to specify that the Quicktime PLUG-IN is to be used for mp3 files. Although this action option is a provided for other kinds of files, that action option is missing for MP3 Audio file (audio/mp3) and for MP3 Audio File (audio/x-mp3).
    I can specify that the Quicktime PLAYER should be used, but not the plug-in. How can I specify that I want the plug-in to be used?

    You need to set in the QuickTime Preferences what files types you want that plugin to handle.

  • Streaming m3u files using iTunes and not QuickTime plug-in

    Hi,
    I am listening to mp3 files using a webserver and streaming m3u files. When I click on the url I get the QuickTime plug-in. I don’t like the QuickTime plug-in very much so I would like to have iTunes starting instead of QuickTime.
    I have chosen to use iTunes for m3u files but it do not work. If I save the m3u file to my disc and double click iTunes is starting as I want but not when clicking on the link in Safari.
    Is there any solution to get iTunes starting when clicking on a link instead of QuickTime plug-in?

    Hi
    I'm generally ignorant in the way of those computer thingies, but seeing as no one else has responded, I'll venture my poorly informed opinion.
    It seems to me that what you're asking for can't be done (as yet). What you would need is an "iTunes plug-in" effectively, which I don't think exists.
    The only way you could set iTunes as the default for playing m3u is to leave the web/browser context (i.e. by downloading the m3u file) and then opening it with iTunes, which you already know how to do.

  • Safari QuickTime Plug In Issues

    Hello Everyone,
    I set up a IP Cam over at another location on an apple time capsule router. I mapped port 80 so external users ie. you guys could access it.
    You can view the camera here: http://67.165.53.251/

    My problem is using a Macbook air running OS Snow Leopard, QuickTime X and the latest build of Safari I can't get a video feed from the camera. The feed works fine on a PC and my GFs Macbook Pro running 10.4.
    Basically what happens is when the QuickTime plug in tries to connect to the video feed it says "negotiating" forever. Then eventually the video feed never loads. This one has me stumped, I tried calling apple care and they gave me the whole shpeal on how that my problem was not covered my apple care. A few days ago when I called them with a similar issue and one of their tier 2 guys was able to help me out. Any ideas on what is going on here? I don't have any antivirus or firewall blocking it. I already downloaded QuickTime 7 as an alternative to X but no luck. I cleared my cache, history and .plist files and still no solution. I also tried connecting to the cam on my bosses MacBook Air virtually the same as mine and he had the same problem I did.

    Your "kitty" feed works just fine for me using Safari and Snow Leopard.
    Difficult to diagnose the cause as there is no longer a QuickTime "System Preferences" pane where settings can be tested.
    The "negotiating" is talk between your streaming server and the browser plug-in. Once things are settled out playback begins. And it works for me but not for you.
    Test the page using a different User account. This helps rule out many issues.

  • Disable quicktime plug-in opening TIF files in browsers?

    Whenever I click on a TIF file in a browser (Chrome or Safari), Quicktime plug-in tries to open the file. I'd rather have the file opened by an application that actually works (quicktime fails to load or displays garbage in most cases, but I do not care - I just want it gone) or just downloaded without opening (preferred). Rightclicking to opt for download is not an option on the sites I use. In windows I could disable it via Quicktime icon in Control Panel, but I cannot find a comparable thing on the Mac. This is unbelievably frustrating. It cost me more than the Macbook itself in lost productivity...

    I already have TIFF files set to open with Preview. Nonetheless, USPTO.GOV website image files are all in TIFF format and it renders a broken plugin error in all browsers (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Firefox). Opera is actually the only browser that gives me the option to download the file, but that is cludgey. Anyone get it to actually work as a plugin?

  • Setting Quicktime as default mp3 and wav player

    Hello
    I know this is a pretty basic question, but how do I set Quicktime to be my defualt player for mp3 and wav files?
    If i select a wav file and then tick the "Always Open With" box it only does it for that particular file and I can't find any related options within the program.
    any help will be very much appreciated.
    thank you

    Highlight a mp3 with the mouse, then get info from the finder. (Right click or click+control key.) A window will open up with the mp3 info. Scroll down to where it says, "Open with:." Click on the tab to pick an application to open the mp3 with. If Quicktime doesn't show up in the drop down menu, pick OTHER at the bottom of the menu. The Application window (folder) should open up, if not, navigate to you Application folder. Scroll down to Quicktime and pick for the application to open the mp3 with. Done. Do the same with a wav file.
    Best bet is to click on CHANGE ALL in the info window. This will change all mp3s and wavs file to open with Quicktime.

  • Flash CS6 - Play MP3 In iOS Native Player?

    Hello,
    In my Flash CS6-based iPhone app, I'm trying to play an MP3 using the iPhone's native player, showing all the controls.  But, I cannot get it to play right in the iPhone's native player.
    Problem 1: I'm playing the MP3 directly in a WebStageView window (see graphic), but there's no Play/Pause button.
    Problem 2: I'm playing an HTML5 file (which launches the MP3) in a WebStageView window (see graphic), but the placement is wierd, and there's no audio scrubber.  Here's my HTML5 code:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0">
    <audio controls="controls">
      <source src="31_roundtable.mp3" />
    </audio>
    </body>
    </html>
    Does anyone have any solutions on how to play an MP3 using the iPhone's native player, showing all the controls?  Thank you.

    Just bumping this thead.  If anyone from Adobe can reply, I'd greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.
