Safari much slower with Lion!

I am a massive Firefox user but in the last 3 months I have been switching between using Firefox and Safari, both are excellent, Safari has been extremeley fast when compared to Firefox, however, since upgrading to Lion Safari is certainly much slower now sufing the web, has anyone else noticed this?

Quite the opposite for me:-
Mac 4,1 (2009 MacPro, 12GB RAM, 4870 Graphics) and I find it's much zippier in both Safari & Mail since I installed Lion last Wednesday. In fact it seems faster all round - and I use Office 2011 and Adobe CS5 intensively.
Got a couple of PPC apps which don't run, and had to replace a kext for my eSATA PCI card. 5 mins to replace the kext, PPC apps still run on my G5 dual 2.0 so I'm a happy camper.

  • MacBook boots much slower with Lion

I have a late '09 MacBook, and installed Lion on release day.  I noticed that every operation was slower - switching between apps, loading messages in Mail, refreshing web pages in Safari, start up, shut down - the gamut.
I installed additional RAM, going from 2GB to 4GB.  Switching between apps, and app response is much better, but the boot up process is still super slow.  With OS X 10.6 my boot time was around 30 seconds from hitting the start button to having a functional desktop.  With Lion and 4GB of RAM that time has at least tripled.
Is it just me?  Any ideas on how to resolve?
    TIA.

Whenever you install a new version of OS X, there's something called "Indexing" that takes place after the installation is complete. This uses a large amount of processing power but it only happens once, and can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on your system. Once this process is completed your system will return to normal. It has nothing to do with Lion itself.
Indexing, btw, allows you to find things in your Mac using Spotlight and Smart Windows
There's nothing you can do, but there's also no need to worry about your computer

Reviews say Aperture runs really slow with Lion, any suggestions?
To add on to Corky02 answer:
The recent Aperture release AP 3.3.x is very efficient, both on Lion and Mountain Lion. But you need a decent hardware to support it. The older Macs will have problems with the storage and CPU requirements. For good performance on large raw images plenty of RAM is important, at least 4GB, but 8GB would be much better, and your library should be on a fast disk, preferably on an internal drive. And don't let the system drive get too full.
Many reports about Aperture being slow are due to putting the Aperture library onto slow disks or acessing  the original image files over the network, insufficient RAM, or corrupted or  ill-designedAperture databases.
Aperture excels at all kinds of image processing that can be considered image developement - raw processing and color/lighting adjustments, but does not do compositing. If you are shooting raw and want professional image developement I'd recommend to do this in Aperture and not in iPhoto - you will have much more control over this in Aperture (after a steep learning curve). You can also  repair and retouch the image to correct minor blamishes. For graphics compositing and inpainting you can set up an external editor and send your images from Aperture to this external editor - any of the editors Corky recommended would be o.k. for this.
To see, if you will want the advanced image processing in Aperture or the easy to use, more basic options in iPhoro will be sufficient to you have a look at the Aperture User manual, or the tutorial on the support page: Aperture Support
But Aperture is a professional apllication, not "plug and play". You should only consider it, if you are willing to spend some time on learning to use it properly and are willing to work your way through the manual.

why did apple mail get much worse with lion osx?  I can't add recipients without copy and paste?

I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

  • IMac works slower with Lion

    Hi,
since I upgraded my iMac (bought it about 2 years ago) to Lion, the iMac Works much slower then with Snow Leopard.
    Greetz,

It is slower, but the difference should not be significan 10% maybe. Some sites like Hardmac have processed with performance tests. Older Macs are slower, but newer Macs get faster with Lion.

  • Running slow with Lion

Installed Lion (after very slow download) a couple weeks ago. Have started and run it many hours and days since then.
Starts and runs fine, but much slower in all categories--startup, opening apps, searching, etc.
    Any suggestions?

The solution was to press and hold the option and command keys while starting Aperture, and then selecting Repair Permissions. This seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks.

  • Can't get safari to open with lion.  Any ideas?

Hi,  Have been struggling to with lion and safari.  Feel like I'm on a safari.  Can't get safari to open. When it does, crashes immediately.  Any ideas?

    Nasty.  I have some ideas:
Can you open Safari in a different user account? (that will help to determine if it is a corrupt install or something systemwide).
Do you have any 3rd party add-ons for Safari?  Try disabling them.

  • Why is safari so slow with mountain lion?

Every page that I load in safari is extemely slow after upgrading to mountain lion. I dont have any other applications and it takes way too long. I can open the same page on my PC much faster. I really hope Apple releases an update soon because this is terrible. Apple even promotes mountain lion as having faster speeds for safari (what a joke).

It would be better if you explained what your program actually does - does it just do a dump of all user processes, does it check settings - what does it do that the built-in diagnostics or a list of command line instructions do not provide (that has as advantage that it's much more transparent what goes on)?
It basically does the same thing as Apple > About this Mac > More Info > System Report, but consolidates the important parts into a concise report that is easily pasted here in the forums.
After all, you are asking people to run an untrusted and probably unsigned program, so I'm actually happy they display a reluctance to do this.
It is signed with my Developer ID. All you will get is the "downloaded app" warning from Mountain Lion with the default Gatekeeper settings that allow both App Store apps and Developer ID-signed apps like EtreCheck.
I'm not saying you cannot be trusted - I merely observe that the reluctance to run an unknown program is not only understandable, but even commendable..

  • Safari loading slow with yosemite

Even after this latest update, Safari is loading incredibly slow since the OS X Yosemite upgrade.  Any suggestions as to how to get pages to load faster?  Sometimes they won't even load completely.

Tried clearing the cache, resetting network, switching between ethernet and wifi - still 10-20 sec delays on certain web pages - mostly places I hadn't visited in a while. Same pages loading on Firefox appeared instantly (I tried loading Safari first then Firefox first, each on a "new" page, trying to eliminate a DNS problem). I then wondered if the new “synchronized history” feature that uploads to iCloud could be the culprit.
Everything Apple is busy on Christmas.  So I tried this:
    Open System Preferences
    Select iCloud
    un-Check Safari
I assume this eliminates communication with iCloud every time you navigate to a new page.  Delays are now pretty much gone - seems much faster, even when I navigate to a site that I knew isn’t in the cache (a site I hadn’t visited since clearing).  Hoping that will fix the problem for now.

  • Mac is so slow with Lion

Ever since i installed Lion on my Macbook which previously ran Snow Leopard, it has started to run slow. Anyone else having same issues?

Sounds like you have a corrupted cache file
On the link I have instructions, do the following
0: Make a backup of just your User files folders off the machine to a storage drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect all drives.
1: Hold Shift Key upon boot, (Safe Mode) then log in, see if your issues persist and reboot and see if they clear up.
2: Run the Disk Utility Repair/disk routine (if it gives any warning or repairs, run it again, stop and report here)
3: Run the OnyX routine  (if it gives any warning or repairs, run it again, stop and report here)
    4: Reinstall Safari
5: If that doesn't work, check your Internet connection, reset your router, create a new user and see if the problems continue in there.

FYI, Safari is actually a lot faster than Firefox, because Apple gives it special tweaks, however FF is more user friendly and on a fast connection there isn't much difference between the two, comfort and control starts coming into play and Safari totally blows chunks in that area.

  • Wired Keyboard issues with Flash / general slowness with LION

So I upgraded to Lion about a month or so ago.  All has not been great.  I am running a 2009 Dual Core Intel iMac with 3 GB ram.  One thing I notice is that initially certain flash support was NOT supported (mainly web cam support through flash on web sites).  So web sites offering chat clients with cam support as an example - the performance would lag badly where typing messages would skip letters and leave nothing but garble.  I attempted to try different browsers, but found the results to be disappointing:
Safari:  Web cam support through web sites was simply broken - even manually trying to alter adobe settings would not get you any further
Firefox 5:  You had to set permissions for web cam support prior to launching a web site as flash settings to enable / disable it within the web site were simply not useable
Chrome:  Settings worked, but the performance was so slow, if using a web chat client and a web cam at the same time, it was almost impossible to type proper words unless you typed a character a minute.
I realize there has been a Lion update recently (a few weeks ago) and after the update, most of these issues seemed to be fixed.  But then, Adobe came out with a FLASH update and now performance is lagging once again to the point where web cam and chat is almost not useable.
Is there anything that can be done to work around this issue?

Please read teh directions for an SMC reset:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
