Safari never remembers passwords

Does anyone know why Safari keeps telling me the password i have entered is different and do I want it to remember the new one? Of course it's not different! It doesn't fill in the password fields as a result, either...

I just found a possible solution to this problem on another discussion topic. I'm hopeful that this password situation is finished now. Go to Safari in your Application folder. Right click and Get Info. Under the "General" drop down see if you have "Open using Rosetta" checked. If so, uncheck it. I've had it checked so I could use certain sites to view music. Since I've only just found this Rosetta vs. password connection, I'm going to give it a try and see if it takes care of the problem completely.

  • Firefox 34 never remembers passwords for sites, have to log-in to everything after each time I close browser

Was using Opera for a while, but really seems to be crashing alot lately so back to Firefox again for the 1st time in years (using whatever latest version is)
Seems no matter what options I check or uncheck in the settings, every single time I close Firefox it logs me out of all sites (FB, YT, email, Soundcloud, etc.) Been extremely annoying......I even took the time to try typing every site I wanted in the exceptions list for cookies, which did nothing at all....For the hell of it I tried the always remember history option with everything possible checked & still nothing...
Would appreciate any help, been driving me insane & sick of wasting my time re-entering passwords all day long
    Thanks

There are many ways that cookies might get cleared, including some Firefox features, Firefox add-ons, and some external privacy/utility software that sweeps up between sessions.
Within Firefox, you would want to double-check:
    (1) Not using automatic private browsing
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
This dialog should show either: "Firefox will: Remember history" or "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history". If it shows "Firefox will: Never remember history" then change to custom and uncheck the box for automatic private browsing.
    (2) Allowing persistent cookies
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
With the dialog set to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history", check that the cookie setting is:
    "Keep until: they expire"
If this is set to "Keep until: I close Firefox" then you would need to create exceptions for sites you want to be able to set persistent cookies (and then clear existing cookies so they get set again with the correct expiration dates).
    (3) Not clearing cookies at shutdown
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
With the dialog set to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history", check that either:
    * "Clear history when Firefox closes" is not checked, or
    * When you click the "Settings" button next to "Clear history when Firefox closes", the checkbox for Cookies is not checked
    (4) Not using extensions that clear cookies
You can review your extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
Does all of that check out?

  • Despite being asked to, Firefox never remembers passwords.

Firefox refuses to implement a pw for pages I am re-visiting. This means that even though the correct pw is stored by Firefox (I checked), every time I return to a pw-protected page, I have to enter the pw. I am also asked whether I want Firefox to remember the pw; even though I repeatedly tick the box that says I do, the next time we go through the whole palaver again.
    I have:
    1. Checked the pw in Preferences;
    2. Restarted in safe mode and with all add-ons disabled;
    3. Done a reinstal of Firefox;
    4. Disabled the old places.sqlite file (this was to deal with a problem of Firefox hanging, now cured).
None of the above has affected the problem.
I would very much like to avoid a clean reinstall, as it can take half a day to reset everything correctly.
    Any help gratefully received.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
*Create an Allow cookie exception to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception.

  • How to Transfer Safari Auto-Fill Passwords to Chrome

How do you transfer all of your saved auto-fill passwords from Safari into Chrome?
It won't let me do it in Preferences/Personal Stuff/Browsing Data
The box "saved passwords" is grayed out and it won't let me select it!
Thanks in advance for any help!
    HARDWARE/SOFTWARE I AM RUNNING:
2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OS 10.6.7

The box "saved passwords" is grayed out and it won't let me select it!
Are you referring to: Manage Saved Passwords ??
Your passwords are stored in Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities
Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on Chrome OS).
    Click the Personal Stuff tab.
Adjust your password settings in the "Passwords" section:
Select "Offer to save passwords" if you want Google Chrome to prompt you to save your password every time you sign in to a new website.
Otherwise, select "Never save passwords" if you don't want Google Chrome to ever save your passwords.

  • Safari and saved passwords

    hi
i was wondering if any faced this same problem whereby Safari just doesn't remember the passwords anymore?
under safari > preferences > autofill > i have everything checked, incl users name and passwords
however, when i navigate to a website with a username/email and password to be entered, the email/username autofills, but NOT the password.
(i have been to this site, entered the password, and saved before)
however, when i type in the same password, safari says, "this password is different ... would you like to save"
of cos i do instead of "not now" or "never" but it just happenss time and time again
i have tried to "remove all" usernames and password from preferences > autofill but it didnt help
please help... its irritating me and firefox now seeems a SMARTER alternative.

Thanks, but private browsing isn't enabled. At first I thought it was a .mac sync issue, but creating a clean account on the laptop (not really a PowerBook as I said, in the first post, but a new MBP), had essentially the same problem. Saved passwords wouldn't stick. This isn't an issue on my iMac running Leopard 10.5.1.
I've tinkered a little further, and I can delete the entries from the keychain and copy in a new entry from a clean keychain imported from the iMac (using file copy, instead of .mac sync). That will load and retain the passwords properly, but then I discover new wrinkle to this problem. Safari can no longer keep track of passwords for multiple usernames for the site. My wife and I have different usernames for webmail sites. It won't retain separate passwords for each username.
No third party extensions/hacks. Again, this was a pristine system. Several people seem to have similar problems, so I'm hoping Apple's working on it.

  • Ipad4 iOS 8 Safari not remembering passwords. Chrome is ok.

    HI
after the the upgrade to iOS 8 my iPad 4 Safari no longer remembers passwords and settings for webpages.
I have checked the settings for cookies and they are ok. Also Chrome works fine.
I reinstalled the iOS but no change.
I Checked for which cookies is saved in the controlpanel settings for Safari, at there appears to be lots of them, so apparently it just doesn't look at them afterwards.
    any ideas?

    Hi,
Too late to reply you :-(.
Yes, install the Chrome browser and access the PDF link. Our users are not happy with the Chrome idea because they were used to Safari all along. To be frank Chrome browser is performing well these days. We are evaluating and trying to implement HTML5 based solution from Mozilla PDF.js. It is a waste of time and resource due to this small silly, frustrating issue.
No idea when does this get resolved because there are no other solid solution that runs PDF within the browser. More over, IOS Safari does not allows to configure or install other PDF reader plugins to run as part of the browser otherwise alternatives like Adobe reader could be used.

  • Dreamweaver 8 never remembers Site Management information

My version of Dreamweaver 8 never remembers any remote site
username or password information. I have reinstalled from the
licensed box several times. Our company has several websites, and,
without fail, each time I open any of our sites in Dreamweaver 8,
it has completely lost all of the site remote information - this is
true for all of our sites. This is becoming extremely irritating.
Any suggestions........other than reinstalling, yet again?? Also, I
have tried exporting site definitions, but perhaps I am not using
it properly, as when reimporting them, Dreamweaver wants to build
    an all-new site.

  • How do I save the password for a site for which I have chosen the "never remember password for this site" option?

The first time you enter a password for a site a box pops up under the address bar that has a picture of a key and then the question: "Remember this password?". In the drop box, I chose the option "Never Remember Password for This Site". I can't figure out how to change it so that the password IS remembered.

It sounds like the printer is still trying to retain the old network information.
    Try a Hard Reset:
    * Unplug printer while unit is turned on
    * Unplug other end of power cord from the direct wall outlet
    * Wait 30 seconds
    * Plug unit back up for power
    Reset Network information to Default:
    * Press the Wrench/Setup menu button in the top right of the touch display of the printer
    * Select the Wireless menu option
    * Scroll down to Restore Network Defaults
After restoring the defaults, then try running the Wireless Setup Wizard. Let me know if the unit still does not retain the information.

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPhone by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad.
If you created a new account then you can log out of the old account and in with the new one as above, but any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can re-download its content and download updates to its apps.

  • Never remember password option fails to add site to Exceptions list

In Firefox 24.0, I visit a website and enter username/password. Popup asks if I want to remember the password. I select Never Remember Password for this Site. I logout and log back-in. After entering username/password, I'm asked again if I want to Remember Password.
Privacy tab: Always use private browsing mode is unchecked
Security tab: when I click Exceptions, there is nothing showing in the popup window
How do I get FF to add the website to the exceptions list so it will stop asking if I want to Remember Password everytime I visit the site?

    Password Manager settings
Firefox will remember passwords by default. You may have disabled this feature, or told Firefox to never remember passwords for a particular site.
At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Options .
    Select the Security panel.
If it isn't already check marked, check Remember passwords for sites.
To the right of Remember passwords for sites, click the Exceptions… button .
Make sure that the site you're trying to log in to isn't in the list.
If it is, select the entry and click Remove.
    Click Close.
Click OK to close the Options window .

  • Safari not suggesting passwords

I have been trying to figure out how to have Safari 7 suggest passwords and it will not suggest 1. It is syncing keychain information via iCloud as I expect but what is the trick to have Safari generate a password?

  • Safari generated website password lost...

    Hello all...
ISSUE: I created a user profile for a forum. Safari suggested a password, so I selected to use it.  Now I am trying to sign in with the info, but Safari will not auto-fill the password, and the site is not found in the keychain access.
Where can I retrieve the auto generated password? Again, a search for the site in keychain access produces no results.
I saw similar Q's, but none of them answered.

I too would love to know how to control this. I used FB with safari then I found it was automatically logging me into other sites when FB login was an option - however, I did NOT want to logged into those other sites!
