Safari - no address bar

This morning there was no address bar to type a www. in.
Tried 'View' but it just had 'hide address...'
Tried 'cutomise...' but the only clickable are was 'Done' - nothing else.
Possibly, I've pressed a sequence of tabs on the keyboard but the bar was visible when I 'shut down' last night.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,
Laturb.

Hi Latrub,
So how are you opening other sites, or are you not? Why don't you try Disk Utility > Repair Permissions... see where that gets you...
Did you try the keyboard shortcut Command L ( the apple and a lower case L)...
You might want to do as Miriam suggested and reinstall Safari, it maybe the fastest simplest thing to do and HOPEFULLY, that gets you back to square one...
Before I did that, I would go ahead and download another browser, like FireFox, download, install and make sure you have it working...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To get back the URL bar, open Safari and go to View menu (in the menu bar) > Customize Toolbar. Then, drag the URL bar to the Safari toolbar.

  • In Mountain Lion, Safari 6 address bar is blank

No matter what website im on, the web address bar is blank. Unless I click on it, I cant see the web address. Please help.

  • Safari 6 Address bar defaults to 'search'. How do I get default to URL?

I like the old default of adding '.com. to the location I type in the address bar. Now, it has defaulted to search and my options appear to be Bing, Google, or Yahoo. I've tried the Customize Toolbar option with no luck. How do I get Safari 6 to default to the web address rather than search mode?

@Camping Doc: I subscribe to this.
My first entry in any Apple forum if I recall it right, but hopefully some internal developers will see this.
From my point of view Safari 6 is indeed a big step backward. My troubles in short:
Entering urls causes a search engine request, seems that "Prevent search engine from providing suggestions" does not work properly.
Even starting the url with http:// or https:// or entering IP addresses causes search ?! (I don't want google to know any of my LAN addresses if mistyped, or servers I administer).
HTTPS (with the lock on the left) can disappear even if the certificate is trusted all the chain up. I would like to see directly if I login with SSL. Even my granny wants to see that.
Even if the setting  "Prevent search engines auto completion" == on I get an auto completion list, maybe a cached one ?! The dropdown list definitely says "Google search results ...".
Editing URIs causes me a lot of trouble, again because of the auto-completion.
I can understand that a some people (I personally know some) might be ok with all this because they might not care about SSL, and enter URLs in the Google page text field, but PLEASE make at least an opt-out setting or get the "Prevent search engine from providing suggestions" running properly. Safafi was always such a nice piece of software with good usability and good developer tools as well.

Click the url in the address box.
Sorry, you cannot increase the default length of the address bar.

  • Safari missing address bar

OSX 10.8.2 Safari 6.0.2 Safari is not full-screen.  Safari has no address or search bar.  I swear it was there before upgrading to iTunes 11.  Choosing View>Show Toolbar does nothing.  Anyone have any ideas?
    TIA.

Select Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them and test.

  • Safari Freezes Address Bar

We have about 25 eMacs running 10.4.7 in a lab(LAN) and this morning, when the students open Safari, they cannot enter an address at all. The computer is NOT locked up, but Safari us rendered useless.
The machines are updated, caches emptied, history cleared...the students are logged in as different people...but it also happens when I go in as root...
    Any ideas?
This is also happening on a handfull of 800mhz iBook G4s

I had the same thing yesterday with my Lombard 400.
My HD was busy and I thought it will organize itself and I let it do this over night. This morning the HD was quiet but Safari still freezes. While no problem in FireFox 2.
I installed Safari 2.0 from Tiger 10.4 CD (System/Installations/Packages/Safari.pkg). It was very fast and ... unsuccessful.
The installation I guess compared the 2.0 files with the already installed but not proper working files of 2.0.4 and resumed that it will not go back to older files.
So I renamed the Safari application in Programs on HD to Safari 2.0.4 and a second installation really installed a fresh Safari 2.0.
Safari 2.0 now works without freezing but I would like to update to 2.0.4
No idea how to do it.
Tiger Update from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 left Safari untouched.

  • The Safari address bar has disappeared how do I get it back?

The Safari web address bar has disappeared, how do I get it back?

Thanks Roger I can now see the name of the website and if I right click on the name it shows me the web address. I used to be able to see the web address e.g. "https//google.co.uk" in this bar without having to right click on the name, is there a way of bringing this back?

  • Where is my safari address bar ? It's even not in my toolbar ...

I updated my Mac OS X to 10.6.8. and when opening Safari my address bar was lost. I tried the 'Customize Toolbar' but even there the address bar is not showing.
Can anyone help me out here ?? Thanks!!!

      Delete Safari .plist file.
      Quit all applications.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" from the drop down.
      Library > Preferences >  com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click on it and select "Move To Trash".
      Restart.  Relaunch Safari.
    Best.

  • I deleted my safari address bar by mistake can't find it

I somehow deleted my safari url address bar by attempting to customize the toolbar. I have no idea what I customized or where the url bar is. Thank you.

Where is a new toolbar on the customize toolbar link?  Or how do I drag in a blank toolbar when there isn't one to drag in?? Would I open firefox and drag in that toolbar?  I just don't know how I lost it in the first place.
    Thank you

  • Safari will not open any address that I type into address bar

When I type an address into Safari's address bar Safari does not open that website, it does nothing. Also if I enter something in the search box Safari does not go to the Google site.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may have a corrupted preference file or Toolbar item.
First, open Safari, hold down the option key, then click and drag the Address Bar off the top part of the browser window. It ought to disappear in a puff of smoke.
Next, go to your View Menu>Customize Toolbar. There, you can drag a new address bar back up to the bar, as well as any other icons on the panel. Select "done".
Now try entering an address. If that doesn't solve the problem, go to your Finder. In your User Account>Library>Preferences folder, move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This step creates a new Safari preference file. You'll need to open Safari preferences to customize the settings to their previous state, unless you are satisfied with the Default settings.
    Try entering an address.

  • HELP: Safari Address Bar is missing

Does anyone know what I should do to get my address bar to come back? I have been using my mac mini for a few weeks, including Safari and one day last week when I turned on the PC and Safari my address bar was gone. I have gone into the view tab several times and tried to get the address bar to return but it is missing. I have rebooted and I have reset Safari and still no address bar. What can I do? Thanks

    Hi
Go to the View Menu>Customize Address Bar. This will open the Icon panel. You'll see an "Address and Search" bar. Click/Drag it to the Address Bar area of the browser window. Select "done".

  • Safar Address Bar HELP!

Recently, I found Internet Explorer on my Apple Mini Mac. Previously, I had been using Safari for my internet browser. After trying Internet Explorer I have found that I HATE IT! I prefer Safari, but now when I try to open Safari the address bar is nowhere in sight! I have gone to view- address bar- and turned it off and then back on again and it is still not showing up! Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

    Yough Alison.
    It's not a web site!!!
It's a file on your Mac.
    It's the Safari preferences file.
And it's location is mapped out in the funky sentence with the separators.
Macintosh HD | Users | Username | Library | Preferences
Quit Safari. Navigate there and drag that com file to the trash please.
It's not all that difficult. I understand you're frustrated. Many of us do this for a living so hang in there. It gets better.

  • Lion // Safari 5.1 Address Bar Dark Gray

Is there a stand-alone Safari 5.1 for Lion. I am having a problem with my newly installed Lion OS. Safari's address bar is dark grey. I have uninstalled any app or Safari plugin that might be causing this glitch. I have even reinstalled Lion, hoping a new install would correct this issue.
When I log-in to a guest user account to test if this more system wide, Safari 5.1 looks fine. I have removed .plist files for Safari and have corrected permissions, and the problem still remains in the root user.
I thought, if it were possible, could I uninstall Safari and do a reinstall of Lion --this might correct this problem.

    Carolyn,
Thanks for the great advice. I've been with Mac for about 25+ years. I had a pretty good idea how to systematically problem shoot this. But, I did go step-by-step thru the instructions with "Safari: Unsupported ..." and then I followed each of your recommendations.
The problem still pursists. I am quite stumped by this. It is not happening on any of my other machines with the Lion upgrade.
Here is an image of what I am trying to describe.
    Thanks for your help.
