Safari not caching on iPad?

When I open a new page then come back to the previous one, rather than just displaying the previous page just as it was when I minimized it by opening a new page Safari tends to redownload the page. This wastes time and bandwidth. I don't think Safari does this in my iPhone or desktop. I don't see any settings I can change. Is this normal? Does anybody else find it as annoying as I do?
Another small issue is that when I open a new page Safari places the insertion bar in the Google search field rather than the url field. This too is annoying and a time waster forcing me to reposition the insertion bar. Is there a way to cause Safari to place the insertion bar in the URL field by default.
Thanks.

Hi Russ,
Tap Settings in the Home screen then Safari / Clear Cache - Cookies and History.
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Hopefully that will kill two birds with one stone.

  • Safari not working on ipad

    Hi all,
i hope this is the right group to ask this question.
I let my friend have a go on my ipad, when returned safari is not working. the app loads fine. but the screen is grey. I can load websites but cannot do anything except that. the tolbar is fine. the issue is with interacting with websites, the screen is not responsive to any touch.
    hope someone can help.
    thanks,
    tom

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Safari not working on ipad mini

Hello, I can"t seem to get Safari working on my ipad mini. The screen is unresponsive and the text input boxes cannot have any text inputted. I have gone thru the various remedys I have found in this and other forums and nothing has worked. I brought it into an Apple store for a Genius to try and remedy and the inital troubleshooting didn't work. They tried a reboot, reset, and finally a new restore and the results were all the same.....nothing. They then took a brand new iPad mini out of a sealed box and setup that one. Believe it or not, after setting it up the same problem occured on this new iPad mini! So I asked to have my original iPad back as it had a personalization etched on the back but was told it was already swapped out and they couldn't return it to me. So now I have a brand new iPad mini that exhibits the same problem of Safari not working and also the advice from the Genius that in a couple of days Apple will have an update. I haven't seen any updates as yet so I am asking anyone on this forum if they have a solution to get Safari working. By the way everything else on the unit functions, I can surf using Chrome, read emails, etc.
    Thank you

Have you tried turning off syncing in Settings > iCloud > Safari > OFF?

  • Safari not opening on ipad?

Safari will not open on iPad?

Try completely quitting the app first - double-click on the Home button to reveal the recetly used apps bar or dock. Press and hold on an app's icon in the recently used apps bar or dock until all begin to shake/wiggle. Select the "X" on Safari's icon to quit the app which will remove it from the recently used apps bar or dock.
    Try launching Safari again.
If no change, try powering your iPad off and on.
If no change after that, try an iPad reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.

  • Safari not working on ipad issue

Safari is not working on ipad but is on my other mobile devices, what could be the problem?

Do this first, and then read Diavonex's post above - and perform those steps as well.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
After you perform all three steps, try Safari again.

  • Safari not working on iPad 2 with latest updates

The safari is not working on my ipad 2.  It has all the latest updates.  When I try to go to an internet site it gives me an error message, "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server."  My other mobile devices are working.  I have closed all of the inactive apps, reset the wifi and all of the other things that have been previously suggested, but still not working.

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. Do not reset your router. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • Safari not work for iPad mini after updated to ios 6.1.3

After updated to ios 6.1.3, Safari just not response. I cannot input any web address. Do anyone has this problem? Do anyone know how to solve it?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Safari not responding on ipad 2.  Checked wi-fi, it's working.  Ipad not receiving or sending mail, either.

I recently uploaded the new iOS6 operating system. My ipad worked fine until this morning.  Watched video podcast, received early mail, but when I wrote 4 email messages I found them remaining in my inbox, and I was unable to get new mail, or to update facebook, or find webpages on Safari.  Got the message 'server not responding.'  I rebooted my wi-fi modem.  Didn't help.  Called wi-fi tech server.  They couldn't find a problem.  Wi-fi works on my computer and iphone.  Checked settings.  Wi-fi on and connected.  Closed all apps, and re-booted ipad.  Held down home botton and off button on ipad until the applea appeared, and waited.  Problem remains. What else can I try?

I was unable to fix it on my own.  My son suggested that I take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store.  Fortunately I was going to be in the city, and was able to make an appt. with the store closest to me.  A very helpful young 'genius' took my iPad in the back room and fixed it.  I don't know what he did, but he said something about 'firmware'.  I don't even know what firmware is, but he said it was unlikely that the problem would recur.  There was a sense that it had to do with the new  IOS6.  If you are able to visit an Apple Store that is what I recommend.  Make an appointment first online at Apple.com.  The service is free and I was VERY grateful to have my iPad restored!

  • Safari not caching YouTube

For some reason, Safari no longer will cache YouTube videos.  There is no longer a progress bar that appears before the playhead in the video and now I can no longer save youtube videos.  I have uninstalled Flash and re-installed with no success.  I'm on Safari 5.0.5.  Anyone see this before?
    Thanks,
    Mike D.

The following link has a good probability of solving your problem.  Explanation: Youtube is running an HTML5 compalibility test. HTML5 is not compatible with Safari. By going to the following Youtube link, at the bottom of the window you will probably see "exit trial or exit html5 test."   Click on it and check Youtube videos to see if you're back in business.

  • Safari not caching previous page properly

After the last update I have had problems with going back to the previous page and it not being the last page I went to. As an example if I go the espn soccernet it will load the most recent page. If I click an article, read it and back click to the last page, it will load up a previous screen from another time I visited(ie one from another day). If I command-R, it will load the page properly. I have this problem with another service I use called chelsea sundayleague. If I set up tactics on a screen, and back click to the previous screen, it will load another dated screen. I have 2 "teams" and log in seperately for both, and sometimes back clicking loads a seperate team's page even though I have logged out.....It does this behaviour under private browsing and regular. I do use Safari Stand, if that matters... Any ideas as to what the heck is going on?? I am running safari 2.02 and Tiger 10.4.3. It does it on my imac G5 and my ibook g4...Wacky...

Private browsing seems to be causing the problem...

  • Safari will not open on iPad 2

Safari will not open on iPad 2.  I've rebooted the cable modem.
Other iPad 2 and iPhones work properly.

Do you mean that it will not launch a web page? It sounds like that is what you mean since you reference the other iPad and iPhones as working properly.
Can you get email on this iPad? Can you use any other apps that need Internet connectivity?

  • Is there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly?

    Greetings everybody,
I have run into a peculiar problem with the Safari browser on mobile platforms (IPad, IPod, IPhone) which I hope I can find a solution for in this community.
I just launched a new website where I sell products with certain variations, for example please view this link: http://www.finerribbon.com/aegean-single-face-satin-ribbon.html
On this particular product, the product variants are supposed to work in such a way where:
If you select the value "1/8" from the "Choose Ribbon Width" field
    THEN
The only options active and available to choose from in the "Choose Roll Size" field should be: 500 Yds, 20 Yds & Sample Swatch
Now, if we browse to the above link in Safari using a desktop or a laptop, there are no problems at all, but if we browse to the above link using an IPhone or an Ipad, then we have a problem where all the options are available regardless of the values chosen, basically the above functonality does not work.
I was told that there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly, is this true? Can anyone advise me if there is a solution to this problem? I would sincerely apperciate it.
Thank you very much for your time and help!

At the top of this window you'll see the following:
Apple Support Communities > Mac OS & System Software > Safari > Discussions
This the Safari forum for the Mac OS X.
Better that you post your topic here  > Developer Forums: Apple Support Communities
I do see on my iPad what you are rreferring to. But you shoudl get the feedback you need in the developer forum.

I would like to add to the Safari toolbar on my ipad 5 IOS 6  machine. I have searched the web and find some instructions to do this but the words and pictures do not match what I can see. I am beginning to think this is not a capabilty of the ipad 5 but perhaps for a Mac computer running Safari. Does anyone know if it is possible to add tools to the toolbar on the latest version of iPad OS & Safari Browser? If so please tell me how. Thanks

You cannot customize the Safari toolbar on the iPad.
What you can do on the iPad is go to Settings>Safari>Always show Bookmarks Bar>On and that will add a bookmarks bar on to the Safari browser.
