Safari not downloading files???

I have always been downloading files and stuff form the internet, but recently when i try to download things it seems that the URL refreshes but nothing is downloaded? Could I have inadvertently changed some crucial setting? help!

I lived in Australia for 2 years. Strangest day there was my first July 4th, which is just another day in Oz. All I could think about was the festivities/fireworks I was missing. Good to think of this day as an Interdependence Day - hopefully that's the direction countries around the world are moving towards.
Regarding SpeedDownload, have a look at its many features before you consider purchasing it. Seems quite useful for anyone who does a lot of downloading, and wants to organize and keep track of it all.

Why does Safari automatically download files? I want option to download or not. I didn't think it used to automatically download. But now every time I click on a file that has been sent to me it does give me an option to view or not..it just automatically downloads it. Any suggestions?

Safari has always done this. Maybe in the past you had a third-party application installed that did this for Safari.

For more immediate action, have a search around www.macupdate.com or www.versiontracker.com to see if such an 'extension' exists to force Safari to prompt on download. (Bear in mind these kind of things can be sensitive to the version of Safari they're used with, so if Safari starts crashing down the line they would be the primary suspects to remove)

I think you are trying to install a computer application to use on an iPad. You can't. They are incompatible pieces of hardware. If you want Family Tree Maker for your iPad, then you need to get that version, if it exists, from the iTunes Store. That download can't be done via Safari.

Download button in Safari PDF view does not download file...

When viewing a PDF in safari, on using the dowload button, the PDF file does not download. The file does download when using file -> save as, or CMD+S, but is obviously a much less efficient.
I'd be grateful if anybody knows how to rectify this issue.

Safari not downloading exe files for vista

The only problem I have with Safari is that it won't save downloaded exe files. As the download finalizes, an error box pops up.
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."
I went to the Windows Security control panel to see if I could turn it off. However, it only offers help for Internet Explorer. Any help is graciously appreciated.

The hatter is correct. Safari uses the Windows "attachment manager" interface to allow virus checkers and other security software to validate downloaded files.

It is likely that a virus checker (or related software like Windows Defender) is flagging the files as being infected or otherwise harmful. You might want to check the AVG and Windows Defender logs to see if they indicate any problems.
Another possibility would be that your system is configured through group policy or via the registry to flag these files as high-risk, which disallows them from being opened. Refer to the Microsoft KB article above for more information.

I keep getting error message safari cannot download file.

Correct, Safari can not be used to download files on the iPad. Also a Mac based game will not work on an iPad. Any available Apps for the iPad need to be downloaded from the App Store.

Safari not downloading upon click

Hello,
A friend of mine is running 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.2. The browser does not download any files upon click of the download link. The link must be right clicked and then "saved as". The same behaviour happens with Firefox as well. This is really surprising as both browsers show the same exact behaviour. Do you have any advice regarding this?
There are no extensions or plug-ins installed with Safari or Firefox.

For the friend running Safari 5.0.2.
There is a Safari update available from the Apple menu / Software Update..
Resetting Safari from the Safari menu may help. Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons, click Reset.

And since both browsers are having problems downloading files make sure the user can get e-mail. If not, then it might be the internet connection itself causing the problem.

Files are not downloaded in Safari as they might be on a regular computer. Only PDF files can be opened and saved to iBooks.
Files are usually copied to the iPad via a sync or the file sharing feature of specific apps on the iPad and iTunes on the computer.
What kind of file are you trying to get to your iPad and what app on the iPad will you use with that file?

IPod seen by Windows, not downloading files ...

Tried the '5R' bit. Didn't help. Let me see if I can explain.
* Purchased iPod for my wife for Christmas a month+ ago
* Downloaded iTunes and created a fairly large library of MP3 files from our CD collection. Use iTunes regularly on Windows, no problem.
* Got the iPod out of the box today, and followed directions.
* Plugged it in.
* iTunes sees it, entered information for iPod name, did registration stuff. [NOTE: each time I plug the iPod in and iTunes sees it, it brings up the "Setup Wizard", which is kind of pointless ...]
* It said it was updating the iPod. It showed it was copying the library file by file.
* It copied the files not to the iPod, but to: C:\iPod_Control in a folder there (they MP3 files in the library are in a folder called "C:\MP3s" and stored in folders there for individual CDs). This now doubles the disk space used on the harddrive, but also did not copy the files to the iPod itself.
Suggestions? What did I do wrong? Is it me, the software, what?
When I plug the iPod in, it is seen by iTunes. It shows the library of files, but in that other folder. How do I know? I go to the iPod menu, select "Settings" and "About" and it shows zero songs, zero videos and zero pictures (have no videos or pictures set for download, just trying to be complete). Any help will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks. The problem appears to be that the iPod was not being recognized by Windows as a drive. I had to go do some weird jumping through hoops. The computer wanted to map it as drive 'J:' which had a reference to my hard drive that had been mapped for my network -- am not quite sure why. But I could not get the computer to assign as any other drive letter (I am sure it's something I've just forgotten). Anyway, once I unmapped the drive 'J:' mapping, suddenly the iPod showed up as drive J: and I was able to start downloading files to it. I am still doing it, but I think it's working. I should note that I had previously deleted the iPod folder that I mentioned in the first post first. As noted, it apepars to be working, so we'll see. Thanks!

Not downloading files with php links

I've disabled Speed Download completely after trying to disable it for specific sites. What I'm finding is that links that use some kind of database redirect fail to download the files at all. For example a link to a download that looks like this: http://members.vbulletin.com/download.php does not work.
What happens is that a file called download.php gets downloaded, about 10k in size, but the link to the file itself and the file is not downloaded. This doesn't happen in Firefox. Any ideas what is going wrong?... I've seen this behavior on several sites that use database links to the files..

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, monitor, and Ethernet, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in as yourself. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, perhaps including wireless networking on certain Macs. If you usually connect to the Internet via WiFi, and it doesn’t work in safe mode, connect using an Ethernet cable. If you can’t do that, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and perform a safe login, as follows: Enter your credentials at the login screen, then hold down the shift key and click the “Log in” button. Keep holding the key until the menu bar appears. In this mode, your login items, among other things, won’t load.
In safe mode, test again. Same problem(s) now?
After testing, reboot (if you booted in safe mode) or log out/log in (if you performed a safe login) as usual.

Safari cant download file

Epub file of 722.73kb, its just a book, but everytime i try to download anything on here it says safari cannt download the file!! What am i doing wrong?

WSUS 4 not downloading files

I installed windows 2012 r2 and i also setup WSUS 4. Although WSUS synchronizes with Microsoft Update, it does not download any files. I am using a proxy for the connection to the internet.

Does the synchronization success? If yes, please check if you have approved any update. By default, WSUS server will download a update after it has been approved.
If the synchronization is failed, please check the items below,
Are TCP port 80 and 443 blocked?
Does the firewall filter some specified domain?

Why i can not download files any more?

I can no longer download files from yahoo mail, it worked before but stopped working yesterday. I tried both Firefox and Safari, neither worked. please help!

when I click on the attachment, a window pops up indicating "Scanning is complete and no viruses were detected" and on the bottom I can click either "continue" or "cancel". In the past, when I click "continue", the download window will pop up and I can see the file there. But now nothing happens.
I also checked the download folder by going to "Tools" then "download" and the folder is empty.

I have been having this issue for a while now it starts to get very annoying. Not just Safari, all of my browsers are unable to download any files unless I right click to save. However, for some files/apps there is no way to download at all. For example, when trying to download and install Flash for Safari, I was stuck on a blank web page when the file download was supposed to start, but nothing happened so the installation was unable to proceed. Was trying to download Chrome too, same issue... I could see the download link (as URL) grrr...but it just did not do anything.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
