Safari not downloading upon click

Hello,
A friend of mine is running 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.2. The browser does not download any files upon click of the download link. The link must be right clicked and then "saved as". The same behaviour happens with Firefox as well. This is really surprising as both browsers show the same exact behaviour. Do you have any advice regarding this?
There are no extensions or plug-ins installed with Safari or Firefox.
Thanks.

HI,
For the friend running Safari 5.0.2.
There is a Safari update available from the Apple menu / Software Update..
Resetting Safari from the Safari menu may help. Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons, click Reset.
Help here for emptying the Firefox cache. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20clear%20the%20cache
And since both browsers are having problems downloading files make sure the user can get e-mail. If not, then it might be the internet connection itself causing the problem.
System Preferences / Network. Select the *Assist Me* button then click Diagnostics. If any of the buttons on the left are red, click Continue.

  • Safari not downloading website

    hey all...
I have a website for my band that my PC using friend created. I can log onto the site, but none of the audio that is programed into the site works on my comp, however, it does on others PC'S. I have a G4 Tower and have tried both Safari 1.2 and my Explorer 5.2.3 but neither of them completely download the page.....images/words yes...audio no.
Any help is greatly appreciated as always. The site is

I have never programmed a page to start with music, so I don't know all the techniques (I tend to learn things as I need them), but on the fancy end, I have seen pages that, even if the sound/music starts immediately, let you adjust the volume or turn the sound off. Other pages invite the user to click on a link or button to hear the music. The embed tag does have some variables, like automatic or user initiated playback and the volume (worse than a site starting with something is a site starting with something at full/loud volume). One of the times that automatic playback is most intrusive is when I am also listening to iTunes, and then the two interfere with each other. Actually, if I am not listening to anything and I come across a site that starts playing something at a reasonable volume and that is not to grating then I do not mind it. BTW, strange is good, offensive is bad. ;-)>

  • Safari not downloading PDF's correctly

I find that Safari since updating to Maverick but any pdf download will not open, Adobe claiming the file to be damaged. Chrome will do the downloads correctly.
In addition I am finding that opening any application is much slower than from Mountain Lion.

    Hi
You may have an Adobe PDF plugin blocking the works. Go to your HD>Library>Internet Plugins folder.
If you see an Adobe PDF plugin, move it to the desktop. Then, go to your Applications folder and open either Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. Open the preferences and uncheck the Internet setting for PDF reading.
Then restart Safari and try a PDF.

  • Safari not downloading anything... wth?

I have a love/hate relationship with Safari right now. I love the actual browser, I hate the fact it won't allow me to download a thing. I'm not talking about downloading from illegal sites or going through any page redirects, I cannot download a thing at all. My page goes to a blackish screen and stops or it just stalls, flashes once and nothing happens.
    Here's what I've checked for:
1). No, I don't have Speed Download installed or a plug-in/filter for it.
2). I don't have a com.apple.safari.plist file or even a safari folder in Application Support.
    3). I'm running Lion 10.7.3 and Safari 5.1 currently.
I've even uninstalled/reinstalled Safari with no luck.
What the heck is going on with Safari???

    Hi mate
I'm getting the same problem. Have purchased a new macmini and tried to download carbonite on my machine and it won't. Did you get anywhere with this problem?

  • Safari not downloading videos

im having problems downloading videos. sometimes my videos will begin to download normally to my download folder, but other times they will just open in the same window and start playing and not allow me to download them. i downloaded flip4mac to play windows media player videos but i don't believe this would be the cause of the problem. does anyone have any advice?

Right click (Control click) on the link to view some other options.

Go to ~/Library/Safari. Move the Downloads.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Safari not downloading

strange, but i tried to download safari, from the apple site, and when i went to install it, there was a red exclamation point on my drive, saying Safari is only for versions 10.4 and up.....but I only run Leopard 10.5.5.
    ????? why cant download safari????
    thank you!!

    why cant download safari?
Because you should already have it. If you need to install or reinstall Safari for some reason, run the combo updater instead of using any of the standalone downloads.

  • Safari not downloading exe files for vista

The only problem I have with Safari is that it won't save downloaded exe files. As the download finalizes, an error box pops up.
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."
I went to the Windows Security control panel to see if I could turn it off. However, it only offers help for Internet Explorer. Any help is graciously appreciated.

The hatter is correct. Safari uses the Windows "attachment manager" interface to allow virus checkers and other security software to validate downloaded files.
More info on the attachment manager:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883260
It is likely that a virus checker (or related software like Windows Defender) is flagging the files as being infected or otherwise harmful. You might want to check the AVG and Windows Defender logs to see if they indicate any problems.
Another possibility would be that your system is configured through group policy or via the registry to flag these files as high-risk, which disallows them from being opened. Refer to the Microsoft KB article above for more information.

  • Safari not allowing right click?

I have a fresh install of 10.4.7, whenever I start Safari, and make a spelling error, I right-click and safari gives me a beach ball of death. I also get the error whenever I try to create a new tab.
This sometimes goes away after visiting another web site, but I have to force quit Safari to obtain functionality again...
I have removed all preferences except the bookmarks, and it still happens. Any help would be appreciated on why this is going on.

What was your original OS? If it was under 10.4.0, PLEASE TELL ME! Otherwise try updating Safari in Software Update.

  • Safari not downloading files???

    hi
I have always been downloading files and stuff form the internet, but recently when i try to download things it seems that the URL refreshes but nothing is downloaded? Could I have inadvertently changed some crucial setting? help!
    thanks

    Hi
happy 4th of July from Ireland;-)
    thanks.
I lived in Australia for 2 years. Strangest day there was my first July 4th, which is just another day in Oz. All I could think about was the festivities/fireworks I was missing. Good to think of this day as an Interdependence Day - hopefully that's the direction countries around the world are moving towards.
Regarding SpeedDownload, have a look at its many features before you consider purchasing it. Seems quite useful for anyone who does a lot of downloading, and wants to organize and keep track of it all.

  • My adobeflasher is not working anymore and when i try to download it will not download

my adobe flahplayer is no longer working and every time I try to download it it will not download i click download now and nothing happens there is no box to say install now what do i do?

I apologized for my earlier comments.  They were written out of frustration.  Yes, I was entirely out of line.  It's exceedingly frustrating not having Flash Player capability.  As with many things in life, you don't appreciate what you have until you no longer have it.  I no longer have access to news clips, Youtube, etc. etc., and I haven't had access in weeks.  There is an online ATV safety course that two of my kids need to take.  Yesterday, I opened the link to the course; guess what, the online safety course requires Flash Player.  AAAAHHHHH!!!!!  More frustration.  My kids will have to go to someone else's house or to the local library in order to (hopefully) be able to take to the safety course.  I've already resigned myself to the fact that I will no longer be able to use Flash Player (unless of course Adobe releases another version that installs/runs properly).  What exactly do you mean by Adobe is "generally aware" of installation issues?  It's not as if these problems have only occurred over the last few days and weeks; it's been many months.  Surely Adobe must know that tens of thousands if not millions of people are unable to use Flash Player.  Your mentioning that Adobe is expecting to fix installation issues "incrementally" doesn't sound as if this problem will be resolved anytime soon.  If my company fixed customer's problems incrementally, we would no longer have customers.  Is this Flash Player problem due to such a major glitch (or glitches) that it's going to take Adobe a long time to find the root cause of the problem(s) and a long time to rectify it?  Are there any other options for the many folks like me who are dead in the water in relation to Flash Player?  I would be interested in finding out if there are any alternatives.  I can't afford it right now, but is my only option to buy a new computer that already has Flash Player installed?

  • Starting a file download upon command

I'm new at this, so I'm hoping your brilliant minds can figure out the error that seems to be here.
I'm trying to figure out why a file is not downloading upon command from a webpage. I did not write this code, and I'm thinking that it does not actually cause the file in question to start download, but trys to open it as if it is another HTML file (the "window.open" command).
Anyone know what I can enter into the html document to correct this and start the file downloading to the user?
    Thanks!

  • ITunes 11.1 not downloading artwork for albums only on icloud

Since updating to 11.1 some more of my artwork seems to be missing. The get album artwork is only getting artwork for downloaded music. If I right click on an album without artwork which is not downloaded and click get album artwork nothing happens. This works fine once at least 1 song of the album has been downloaded. I'm on a mac with mountain lion if that's any help. Any ideas?

Okay, found it.  In iTunes 11.1, in the left column, under Libraries: click on Podcasts
Find "settings" at the bottom of the frame. The Automatically Download needs to be set to "Most Recent."  If it's set to "off" then the podcast will be available in the cloud to pull down individually.

  • When I open a link in a pdf file downloaded by Foxfire, it uses Safari, not Foxfire, although I have designated Foxfire as my default browser

When I download a pdf file with Foxfire and then click on a link therein, it calls upon Safari, not Foxfire, to get that link. This causes some complications. I have designated Foxfire as my default browser, so this should not happen. Is this a fault of Adobe or something else?

  • Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?

Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?  I updated last night and ever since, these files download as soon as I launch Safari.

I've gotten these from multiple web sites, including Drudge and National Journal.
It is my opinion that this behavior is a side effect of the latest Java update. Until this latest update, Apple has maintained its own version of Java. The latest update is Oracle Java.
Apple's note on the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 11 includes this:
On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
Looking at the innards of one file downloaded, it appears to be a JavaScript beacon from advertising.com for rubiconproject.com. These files are used to track web browsing activity. I suspect that this Java changed the way the beacon is served and Safari.
