Safari not loading previous pages

Hello all,
so, I like to keep multiple websites open in safari, commonly keeping the 8 tap limit. On the occasion when I click on a link that forcefully opens a new tab, safari will randomly pick an open tab to open the link in. Well, it won't allow me to go back to the previous page I had open. Is there a workaround for this? It really tcks me off when I can't go back to a page I was reading.

I tried throwing away the safari application and loading on a new one that I had downloaded from another computer, didn't help, still have the same problem.

  • Why will safari not load web pages with the prefix "fhp"?

Why will safari not load web pages with the prefix "fhp"?

Because it doesn't recognise them as valid addresses - just as the error message  says.
Firefox is similar : Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (fhp) isn't associated with any program.
Where are you seeing this problem ?.

  • Safari not loading web pages

My mom's Powerbook is no longer able to load web pages through Safari. Her email works, as does iChat, so it isn't her internet connection. Other users on the same network can load web pages, so it isn't the service provider. I have had her reset safari, as well as remove the preferences file, and the same thing happens (the 'loading' message appears but nothing ever loads).
Any suggestions what to try next?
    Thanks!
    Brian

    HI Brian,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache.
If that doesn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ Move the Cache.db file to the Trash
    If that didn't help...
Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins and /Library/Internet Plugins. If there are plugins in either of those folders, move them to a temporary location on the Desktop. With Safari open, from the Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences and click the Security tab. Make sure Enable Plugins is selected. See if Safari can load web pages. If not, move those files back to the appropriate folder.
Go to /Library/Input Managers. Move any input managers from that folder to the Desktop and relaunch Safari.
Might be a web clip causing the problem. Open Dashboard and remove any web clips.
If she is running Tiger 10.4.11, open System Preferences/Software Updates - Installed Updat4es and make sure she has the 2009-002 Security update installed. If not, download and install it here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC
If her PowerBookG4 has the original hard drive, 40 or 60GB?, it might be a lack of free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*

  • Safari not caching previous page properly

After the last update I have had problems with going back to the previous page and it not being the last page I went to. As an example if I go the espn soccernet it will load the most recent page. If I click an article, read it and back click to the last page, it will load up a previous screen from another time I visited(ie one from another day). If I command-R, it will load the page properly. I have this problem with another service I use called chelsea sundayleague. If I set up tactics on a screen, and back click to the previous screen, it will load another dated screen. I have 2 "teams" and log in seperately for both, and sometimes back clicking loads a seperate team's page even though I have logged out.....It does this behaviour under private browsing and regular. I do use Safari Stand, if that matters... Any ideas as to what the heck is going on?? I am running safari 2.02 and Tiger 10.4.3. It does it on my imac G5 and my ibook g4...Wacky...

Private browsing seems to be causing the problem...

  • Safari Not Loading Web Pages (Safari can't connect to the server)

I'm seeing increasing problems with Safari being unable to connect to websites. When the problem starts to manifest itself you see the error:
Safari can't connect to the server.
    Safari can't open the page.
Then you see the URL information. It is always seems to be sites that are trying to load HTTPS pages.
Clearing the cache and resetting Safari will make it go away temporarily, but it always comes back.
Note that when this happens you might happen to see something like this in the address bar:
    file:///Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/

I'm having the same problem, I can open safari but when I try to go to a website it just says "server stopped responding." I just updated to the new version and that's when it started happening, it was working find before the update. Any suggestions???

MagicMenu Enabler is a product developed by the
people who make Stuffit. From the above log it
appears that it might be compromising your system,
and possibly contributing to the problem you are
    seeing.
Go to your Main Library>InputManagers folder and
remove the MagicMenuEnabler plug-in (for the time
being move it to your desktop).
    Then restart Safari.
    Post back
Thanks, Joseph. Tried it last night on my laptop and it didn't help. I still have lots of similar error messages not related to Stuffit. I am getting frustrated. Sometimes Safari is OK, but I have great difficulty logging in to secure sites like my bank and brokerage accounts. Software Update still stalls. Sometimes I have difficulty logging into this site. But, some websites load OK. I can access all of them on my Windows computer in my office.

  • Safari Not Loading Web Page Fully

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem.
Occasionally and randomly when I try to load any web page in Safari (v3.2.1) it stalls half-way through the process. But when I launch another browser like Firefox (and it does connect to a pre-defined web page), immediately Safari completes loading the web page.
Any ideas why this is happening?

    Hi Carlton
With some internet providers Safari seems to function more efficiently in the page loads by adding DNS server codes to the Network settings.
In your System Preferences>Network panel, select your internet connection (airport or ethernet), then select "advanced". In the DNS panel, enter these codes on separate lines by clicking the + key:
If you live in the US 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
Outside the US 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222
    Select "OK", then "apply".
Restart Safari. Go to the Safari Menu>Empty Cache. Then try some page loads.

  • Safari not loading certain pages correctly

I have a black macbook (2008) and when I am running Safari it will load a webpage and when it finishes loading it will grey out the website, and jump down to the end of the webpage.  I can still see the website but I cannot click any of the links. I can scroll up and down still but it is greyed or blacked out.  I load up the same website in firefox and it is fine.  This problem never happens in firefox and it does not happen on every webpage in Safari, but it does it on the same websites consistently.
This has starting in the last few months and I cannot say for sure if it started before or after we moved and changed internet providers.
Thank you in advance for any helpful answers.
The first one is Safari and the second one is Firefox

This sounds like the same problem as:
    Version 6.0.5 (8536.30.1) grey page     https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5123846
Try some ot the things suggested there; it was due to an extension.

  • Safari not loading some pages after upgrade to Yosemite

iMac, mid-2010. Upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. Afterwards, many web pages refuse to load, partially load in Safari. Have tried all of the suggestions posted... clearing cache, DNS Prefetch disabling, DNS server changes, etc. None work.
Certain sites seem to always work like cnn.com, craigslist.org, linkedin.com... but Yahoo mail, Facebook, and many others fail to load or won't load completely.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Safari not loading some pages

I'm having trouble loading some web pages, e.g. can't log into these discussions except via Windows XP in VMware Fusion, and its the same on different macs on the home network and when using Firefox and Camino browsers.
The problem is causing me some real hassle with online banking, so any help would be much appreciated.

I have a possibly related problem, which seems to pertain particularly to Google's GMAIL. Sometimes Safari downloads the page in its usual snappy fashion, sometimes it seems constipated, downloading the page SLOWLY and painfully, and sometimes it hangs. So I rely on Firefox more and more, which works just fine. This is not a timing issue, by the way. Even while Safari's gear is spinning futilely, I can open Firefox and get my mail. This happens both on my computer at home (iMac with a cable connection) and at the office (XEON dual quad with DSL).

  • Safari not loading web pages....HELP PLEASE

i use my ipad for class everyday, and recently it hasnt been loading the entire webpage/slideshow that i am viewing... it will only load what you can see originally, but when i try to scroll, nothing is there. also, on one website, my ipad is cutting off about 1/4th of the right side of the page...i am zoomed all the way out, and cannot seem to figure it out. i dont remember it always doing this. any ideas?

    Hi and welcome....
Tap Settings / Safari. Clear the History, Cookies, and the Cache.
Then restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see the red slider. Move the slider to the right to power off. Restart by holding down the Sleep/Wake button until you see the white Apple logo.

  • Safari not loading some pages - won't let me sign in to my accounts

In the last few weeks, Safari has significantly slowed down on my laptop, to the point where I'm using my AOL browser to sign into different accounts to pay bills, etc. (Unbelievable!) For some sites Safari works fine, i.e. my Outlook, but others, like Donors Choose or any of my bill-paying sites are being really slow (i.e. Verizon). I don't have Firefox (though I'm thinking of getting it). I have Safari 3.1.2, but I'm still on 10.4.11. Can anyone help? Oh, the usual message I get is: "server is not responding".

    Hello susana:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
There are lists of things to try to speed safari in this forum.
    Try a couple.
    Clear the Safari cache
Trash the favicon file (~ library>safari>icons (This file, if it gets too full, will slow Safari).
As an aside, that is unbelievable that AOL's browser is faster!
Do you have at least 10% of your HD free? If not, that could cause Safari (and a lot of other things) to slow down.

  • Safari will not load numerous pages

Ever since the 10.4.9 update I've had trouble with Safari not loading certain pages. Yahoo!, YouTube and numerous other pages just will not load. The problem carries over to other browsers as well. I've tried numerous things to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a new set of X509anchors and X509certificates to see if installing them would fix things.
Does this sound like a reasonable approach to the problem?

I have had the same problem since zeroing and doing a clean install on my imac. Some webpages load, others don't, and I cannot see a pattern related to page content (e.g. flash). I use aiport express, but even when using the cable, the problem persists. My laptop PC (sorry) connects to all pages without delay, so the problems lies with the mac.
I've tried emptying browser cache, changing DNS settings, proxy settings (using passive ftp mode etc), resetting router, resetting airport express, changing safari mtu to 1492, disabling firewall, and Internet Connect detects no problems.
Reinstall osx and hope for the best?

  • Safari and Firefox both not loading any pages yet i am connected to the int

Safari and Firefox both not loading any pages yet when i run diagnostics it says i am connected to the internet... any ideas???

Now the kicker is i have a magicjack and you need internet to run it and that works fine... also i can access my itunes store which also requires internet. I can only run safari with the ethernet cable connected. That is how i'm connected now.. any ideas what it might be.. i have reset safari, emptied the cache, renewed the DHCP lease.. and all of the obvious... Please anyone help..oh p.s. my iphone picks up the wireless so it is working.. HELP......
