Safari not loading some pages - won't let me sign in to my accounts

In the last few weeks, Safari has significantly slowed down on my laptop, to the point where I'm using my AOL browser to sign into different accounts to pay bills, etc. (Unbelievable!) For some sites Safari works fine, i.e. my Outlook, but others, like Donors Choose or any of my bill-paying sites are being really slow (i.e. Verizon). I don't have Firefox (though I'm thinking of getting it). I have Safari 3.1.2, but I'm still on 10.4.11. Can anyone help? Oh, the usual message I get is: "server is not responding".

Hello susana:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
There are lists of things to try to speed safari in this forum.
Try a couple.
Clear the Safari cache
Trash the favicon file (~ library>safari>icons (This file, if it gets too full, will slow Safari).
As an aside, that is unbelievable that AOL's browser is faster!
Do you have at least 10% of your HD free? If not, that could cause Safari (and a lot of other things) to slow down.

Have reset Safari, emptied cache, etc. but no change. May be more pervasive than just Safari. What to do next?

MagicMenu Enabler is a product developed by the
people who make Stuffit. From the above log it
appears that it might be compromising your system,
and possibly contributing to the problem you are
    seeing.
Go to your Main Library>InputManagers folder and
remove the MagicMenuEnabler plug-in (for the time
being move it to your desktop).
    Then restart Safari.
    Post back
Thanks, Joseph. Tried it last night on my laptop and it didn't help. I still have lots of similar error messages not related to Stuffit. I am getting frustrated. Sometimes Safari is OK, but I have great difficulty logging in to secure sites like my bank and brokerage accounts. Software Update still stalls. Sometimes I have difficulty logging into this site. But, some websites load OK. I can access all of them on my Windows computer in my office.

  • Safari not loading some pages

I'm having trouble loading some web pages, e.g. can't log into these discussions except via Windows XP in VMware Fusion, and its the same on different macs on the home network and when using Firefox and Camino browsers.
The problem is causing me some real hassle with online banking, so any help would be much appreciated.

I have a possibly related problem, which seems to pertain particularly to Google's GMAIL. Sometimes Safari downloads the page in its usual snappy fashion, sometimes it seems constipated, downloading the page SLOWLY and painfully, and sometimes it hangs. So I rely on Firefox more and more, which works just fine. This is not a timing issue, by the way. Even while Safari's gear is spinning futilely, I can open Firefox and get my mail. This happens both on my computer at home (iMac with a cable connection) and at the office (XEON dual quad with DSL).

  • Safari not loading some pages after upgrade to Yosemite

iMac, mid-2010. Upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. Afterwards, many web pages refuse to load, partially load in Safari. Have tried all of the suggestions posted... clearing cache, DNS Prefetch disabling, DNS server changes, etc. None work.
Certain sites seem to always work like cnn.com, craigslist.org, linkedin.com... but Yahoo mail, Facebook, and many others fail to load or won't load completely.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • The Facebook app won't let me sign on with my account. I can sign on to another account just fine. Will not let me sign on through Safari or Google either. When I put in email and password it goes right back to the log in page. Help?

On my iPhone 4, the Facebook app won't let me sign on with my account. I can sign on to another account just fine. The first time I sign on with the FB app it goes to the news feed page, says loading, and then flipps between loading and connection error.  If I close out of that and try to sign in again it locks up on the logging in page.  From Safari or google it goes to the log in page, after entering my email and password it goes right back to the log in page.  I have tried resetting my phone, deleting and re-installing the app and everything else I can think of.  Since I can log onto another account on my phone it can't be the app, any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like a hard reset is in order...

  • After Update, Safari only loads some pages.

    Hello,
On my Powerbook G4 (OS 10.4.11), I recently installed Security Update 2008-008 (PowerPC), and since I've installed it, Safari (v3.2.1) is loading only some pages. This is not just Safari, but Firefox will not load some pages either. Pages that will load include Google, Gmail, and Yahoo. Some pages that won't load include Apple, Facebook, YouTube, and most large pages. It seems that
When I ping these sites using Network Utility, the average pings for these pages are as follows:
    Google: 100 ms
    Gmail: 17 ms
    Yahoo: 17 ms
    Apple: 100% packet loss
    Facebook: 90 ms
    YouTube: 85 ms
I have 5 devices on the network: two Macbook Pros, one Powerbook, one Nintendo Wii, and one iPod Touch. Each device works perfectly fine except for the recently-updated Powerbook.
Failed attempts to fix the problem:
    - Resetting Safari
    - Restarting the computer
    - Power cycling the router
    - Resetting the PRAM and NVRAM
    - Fixing Permissions
Are there any changed settings which could have caused this malfunction?
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks for your help.

Hmmm… then there's some larger-scale corruption with files that we can't pinpoint, so at this point you should do an Archive & Install with the option to Preserve Users and Network Settings. You will not lose any programs or data, just get a new copy of OS X installed and the old one removed. The old copy will be put in a folder named Previous Systems, which you should delete. You will also need to download the 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 Combo Update and install that, as well as Use Software Update to bring your system current.
    To do this:
    1. Quit all running applications and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
    2. Insert your Mac OS X install/restore disc and restart your Mac from it (hold down the 'C' key until you see the startup screen).
    3. Proceed with an install as normal, but choose Archive & Install with Preserve Users and Network Settings; then run the installer.
    4. Eject the disc after the Mac restarts.
    5. Quit Software Update if it runs and tells you to update things. Instead, download and install the 10.5.6 Combo Update; then run Software Update to bring your system current.
    6. Repair Permissions again.

  • Why will safari not load web pages with the prefix "fhp"?

Why will safari not load web pages with the prefix "fhp"?

Because it doesn't recognise them as valid addresses - just as the error message  says.
Firefox is similar : Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (fhp) isn't associated with any program.
Where are you seeing this problem ?.

  • Safari wont load some pages...please help

safari started running slow for me a couple days ago. when i go to load some pages, such as myspace, i get the error message "Safari can’t open the page “http://myspace.com/” because Safari can’t find the server “myspace.com”." i have no idea why this would happen. if someone could please help it would be much appreciated. p.s. im kind of a noob so if you have a solution that is somewhat complicated, step by step would be appreciated.

    reaper --
The Apple Discussions site has been having problems for about a week now.
Up, and then Down. They are working diligently on resolving it.
    As for FB --
A lot of posters report problems on that website.
I have not experienced any problems, but I have no idea why.
Perhaps FB is super busy . . .
Sometimes, when I'm having problems, I shut everything down, and unplug
the Mac, the modem & the router. Let everything sit for 5 mins. Then restart
modem/router until the lights get steady. Then restart the Mac.
    Just a thought.

  • Safari not loading web pages

My mom's Powerbook is no longer able to load web pages through Safari. Her email works, as does iChat, so it isn't her internet connection. Other users on the same network can load web pages, so it isn't the service provider. I have had her reset safari, as well as remove the preferences file, and the same thing happens (the 'loading' message appears but nothing ever loads).
Any suggestions what to try next?
    Thanks!
    Brian

    HI Brian,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache.
If that doesn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ Move the Cache.db file to the Trash
    If that didn't help...
Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins and /Library/Internet Plugins. If there are plugins in either of those folders, move them to a temporary location on the Desktop. With Safari open, from the Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences and click the Security tab. Make sure Enable Plugins is selected. See if Safari can load web pages. If not, move those files back to the appropriate folder.
Go to /Library/Input Managers. Move any input managers from that folder to the Desktop and relaunch Safari.
Might be a web clip causing the problem. Open Dashboard and remove any web clips.
If she is running Tiger 10.4.11, open System Preferences/Software Updates - Installed Updat4es and make sure she has the 2009-002 Security update installed. If not, download and install it here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC
If her PowerBookG4 has the original hard drive, 40 or 60GB?, it might be a lack of free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*

  • Why is Safari not displaying some pages correctly?

Safari seems to be messing up again.  Had this problem quite a while ago.  It's not displaying some pages correctly.
Notice the 2 enclosed screen shots.  I went to purchase something (no personal info in the jpgs)
Notice the W-Safari.  Little trash cans by the purchase items missing as well as the submit button and a few other things.  So I opened Chrome.
Notice in the W-Chrome, everything is displaying correctly.
I've had problems like this some time ago but I thought they were fixed.
Thanks for any suggestions or help.

  • Safari not loading some web pages

Got a problem with Safari where it won't load certain web pages. This happens when I try to click on the buy button on certain web sites (such as Amazon), but not on all web sites. Safari tries to load the page but stops before any content is downloaded. I've tried re-installing the software, re-setting Safari, emptying the cache, cookies are enabled, and proxies are unchecked. If I run Internet Explorer I can access the pages that Safari won't download. Anyone got any suggestions????

Do you have Little Snitch installed? If so, check the Little Snitch preference panel (under System Preferences) to make sure that there are not any Little Snitch rules denying Safari access to any ports. If only HTTPS sites are being effected, specifically check the rule for Port 443, as Safari needs Little Snitch to allow connections to that.
I am not sure, but I think the update changed these rules around, at least on my computer.

  • Linksys Router not loading some pages

I was using the internet on my new IMAC and it was running great. Very fast. I have now added Vonage to the mix and installed a Linksys BEFSX41 router to the fold and have my mac connecting using DHCP and the router logs into my server using PPPoE. Problem is, without the router in place and the mac logging onto the internet I can connect to ALL websites very quickly. With the router in place I can get to some websites but a lot of them Hang and don't load anything until Safari or Firefox time out. I have unplugged the Ethernet cable from the Router during the stall and it quickly tells me that the internet connection was lost so I know that my mac is sensing the internet. I have also removed the modem wire from the router and plugged the Speedstream modem directly into the mac AGAIN (going back to the original settings) and those same sites that lag, load very quickly. What do you think that the problem is?? I've been working on this for days now with no fix. If I lose the router then I lose my Vonage telephone. Info : Running an Imac 20" new last month, Speedstream DSL high speed modem, Linksys BEFSX41 router and a Linksys PAP2 Phone adapter.
Imac 20" Mac OS X (10.4.8) using speedstream DSL Modem, Linksys BEFSX41 Router, Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter, Running Safari and Firefox with same results. BEFSX41 router has firewall and VPN Endswitch (Which I have no clue what that is or does)
Imac 20" Mac OS X (10.4.8) using speedstream DSL Modem, Linksys BEFSX41 Router, Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter
Although this is a long message some examples are: Vonage website vonage.ca won't load at all. went to my scotiabank website and get the main page but when I click to take me to the login page that page won't load. There have been many others also. Linksys website I cannot get to the forums page but I can get to their easy answer page but their answers don't resolve my issues. I have not contacted them yet as I have read that they don't seem to want to support Mac users. (this may be untrue but I thought that I would try here first)
Thank you all who try to help me in advance.
Imac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   using speedstream DSL Modem, Linksys BEFSX41 Router, Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter

The way you word this sounds to me like the linksys came with the vonage package. If so, they would probably be the best ones to contact for support.
Aside from that, the first thing I would check is the version of firmware you have. Is it up to date? This is the most current version I believe v1.52.10 if I read the website correctly.
Oh and make sure you check on your router first to see what version of the router you have. I see like 4 or 5 different versions listed ... ie ... befsr41 v1, v2, v3, v4, and v4.1. Get the right version of the product first before you download the firware update.

  • Multiple Browsers not loading some pages

My wife ran into a problem late last night loading her LiveJournal page. Other pages seemed to load, but not that one. At first, we thought it was that site's problem.
However, this morning the problem has spread to other sites. YouTube Yahoo and Google load okay, but most others do not -- including Blockbuster. I tried running a software update, but it would not load and asked me to check the Network Diagnostics. I did, and it said my internet was running fine. E-mail loads fine, but the icons from LiveJournal will not load in a message. I tried running the netscape browser to see if it was a Safari problem -- and it won't load pages either.
It's a 20" iMac which is just a week and half shy of being one year old. I am running 10.4.11, I believe (I'm at work now and don't have the computer in front of me.) My internet is cable through road runner. I don't think there are any third party programs attached to Safari.
    Any suggestions?

i have the same problem with my space and apple.com
myspace takes for ever to load
most of the time it doesnt show pictures just a blue box with a question mark
and at times i get no internet connection on apple.com
    really weird
let me know if you get to resolve this....

  • Safari not loading some sites.

I don't believe I have changed anything in Safari, but this problem has recently started occuring.
Half the sites I go to won't load properly. It seems to try, as the progress bar begins to fill, but after a couple of seconds it gives up and leaves me with a white page. The activity window shows the page as being 1 byte in size.
This seems to happen more often on some sites than others, whereas some will not be affected at all and will work fine. Some of the offending sites will also load if I copy/paste the link into a new tab, but not if I reload.
It also occurs in the latest Webkit build (34130) but not in Firefox (3.0RC1) or Camino (1.6.1).
I've tried resetting Safari, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem, and often end up going back to Firefox as a result.
Also, Safari will very often not load www.hotmail.com. I get the following message -
"Windows Live ID is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons:
This site may be experiencing a problem.
The site may not be a member of Windows Live ID.
If I clean out all the hotmail related cookies, it then does usually load, but what a pain. I recently made Safari my preferred browser, but now regret having done so. Since this seems to be an Apple problem, hope they resolve it soon.

  • Safari keeps loading some pages

I have a 23 inch cinema display, everytime i opened safari the letters were too small so i had to zoom in a couple of times, so i changed the style sheet ( advanced pref) in zoom 145%
now this solved the problem of zooming every couple of minutes, but it created a whole different problem
Some pages keeps loading all the time, and i can see the status bar starting to go from the right towards left . I can see in the activity monitor that safari is pushing 100%. Also the facebook, twitter icon, keeps loading. I have to keep pressing "stop" in safari for 3-4 seconds in order to make the webpage stop.
also in webpages where there is a dialog box, " upload picture" lets say, the dialog box appears half down below the screen, and sometimes scrolling doesn't even work, the dialog box or picture doesn't appear.
Any idea how can i fix this?

The "letters" and "zoom" ...  might be a font issue. Try troubleshooting duplicate or corrupted fonts.
