Safari not opening page

After installing Yosemite, Safari cannot open server webmail page : 'server unexpectedly dropped the connection". However emails coming to Mail ok.

HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache...
Restart your Mac and see if Safari loads with your home page.
If not, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Now go to Safari/Preferences - General. Set your home page and restart your Mac. If it works as it should, move the .plist file to the Trash.

I'm using an iMac early 2009 with Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.9.2 and Safari 7.0.3.  Some time yesterday Safari decided not to open anything.  All I get is the spinning color wheel.  Chrome is working fine but I prefer using Safari.  Any suggestions?

  • Safari Not Opening Pages That Require Login

Since I installed the latest security update Safari won't open a couple of pages I use to use all the time. Most notably the My eBay sign in page and the Bigpond Log In page and just now the Apple Login Page (I had to use Camino to get to here). When I click on these pages Safari just sits there trying to load but does nothing and after about 2min I get the spinning Beachball and have to Force Quit. Also if I press the stop button and try to load any other page other than those 3 it does the same thing. This only happens after I have already clicked on one of the above mentioned sites. I then have to quit Safari and restart it to get it to work. All my other tabbed bookmarks work, It's pretty much just these 3 and probably any other page that requires login.
I have deleted prefs and reset Safari, Repaired Permissions, Deleted Saft, Googled for this problem and found nothing and tried to find a way to reinstall Safari but found nothing.
    Anyone got any other ideas.
    Thanks

Security Update 2006-007 (#6): Login to secure sites fails (cont.) -- fixes; Problems launching Microsoft Office apps; more
Login to secure sites fails (cont.) -- fixes We continue to report on problems logging into secure (https) Web sites in Safari and other WebKit-based applications after applying Security Update 2006-007. Since this update makes modifications to WebKit, it's logically implicated in the difficulties.
Even more telling than the WebKit changes, however, is the resolution (in this security update) of a vulnerability where "certain revoked certificates may be erroneously honored." It appears Safari is -- instead of erroneously honoring bad certificates -- erroneously rejecting some certificates.
There's one more change in Security Update 2006-007 that could be implicated in this problem: a fix for a vulnerability where it may be possible to create an X.509 certificate containing a public key that "could consume a significant amount of system resources during signature verification. An attacker may cause a system to process such a certificate, leading to a denial of service."
In at least some cases, the issue appears to be tied to certificates issued by VeriSign. Safari is incorrectly interpreting some of these certificates as invalid -- with a mismatch in the certificate-listed host name and host name of the visited URL.
As such, one potential fix involves deleting certificate entries using Keychain Access, as follows:
    1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
    2. Click on "Certificates" in the left-hand pane
    3. Delete any entries from VeriSign, or any certificates with a red cross next to them
    4. Re-attempt access to the problematic secure site
The most successful fix, however, involves deleting the file com.apple.security.revocation.plist from the following directory:
    * ~/Library/Preferences
You can replicate this workaround to some extent without deleting any files by opening Keychain Access (as mentioned above) then navigating to its Preferences (under the Keychain Access menu), clicking on the "Certificates" tab and making sure that both "Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP)" and "Certificate Revocation List (CRL)" are turned off. However, some users have found that only deleting the aforementioned file works.
Unfortunately, in some cases, it may be up to certificate providers to update their certification methods for compliance with Apple's new, more stringent security standards."

  • Safari not opening pages since recent upgrade

A few days back there was a software update message concerning airport.   I did the update and ever since Safari has been randomly failing to load pages.  It half loads the page and then just stops.   This happens most frequenty when I'm trying to access linked pages.   Once it stops I cannot attempt to reload the page without rebooting the computer.  What going on?  (10.8.4 on 2008  iMac)

Are other browsers, such as Firefox, also affected? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?

my problem is my iphone 4s is connected to wi-fi with full signal(3 bars) strength but freezes when browsing and says
    "Cannot Open Page"
"Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"
I already reset the iphone to its factory settings and erase all contents but still the browsing speed freezes or not searching at all. Sometimes it will work and fast but then the problem uccors every now and then. Iv'e been using iphone 4 for two years and I still have it and works fine compared to this IPHONE 4S.

Settings → scroll down to Safari → in Safari settings, I selected both Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
IF that does not work -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Finally - if problem still present -
    Go to Settings>General>Reset
Reset the network settings - you will need to add the password of your home WiFi in your phone once more
The device should turn itself off & back on then go into Settings>Wifi and join your network

  • Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding

"Could Not Open Page.... Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"
....but it could worked just fine for the first 2 weeks of iPhone4 ownership.
WiFi network at home, working fine with MacBook, visiting friends' phones, my new iPhone4 - no problems. Had to power down the modem & router very briefly last night. Rebooted, MacBook connected fine, iPhone doesn't - it goes through the motions - shows all signs of full connection, full signal, password accepted etc etc - but web pages will not open, displaying after 30 secs the warning message above.
Tried at work on another wireless network - same response.
Have gone through all the FAQs, reset network settings, forgotten network etc - still nothing.
Anyone experienced the same and fixed it?
    cheers

I'm having a very similar problem, but it's with my 3G connection, not with wifi. The display tells me there is 3G connectivity, and I get the loading symbol, but pages stop loading a few seconds after I try to open them, and some time later I get the "server stopped responding" message. That happens with addresses I know are working, such as Google. Some times, restarting the iPhone or the internet connection (by switching plane mode on and off) solves the issue, but it has been happening often these days.

I can connect my iPhone to my work wifi but when I try to connect my IPad it will not connect. It says safari can not open page.  What's up with that I have used IPad connected to work wifi before

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

I am getting message Safari can not open page.  Server stopped responding.  I have tried several suggestions but they have not worked.

This is on an iPad, correct? Are you sure you have a network connection? Is your iPad Wifi or Wifi & 3G? I know these might seem like dumb questions, but we've got to narrow it down to get a solution. If you're absolutely positive you have an active network connection we can move on to other things.

  • Iphone 4 error message while in wifi "safari can not open page because server stopped responding" after iOS6 update

I am currently using my Iphone 4 in wifi networks only after canceling my cell phone plan. Over the weekend I did the IOS6 update on the iphone as well as updated my macbooks itunes and OS X operating systems updates that were available.  Since that my iphone's safara app won't connect.  After it trys to connect for a minute or 2 I recieve the message: "safari can not open page because server stopped responding".  However ALL other apps that require the phone to be connected to wifi for use work properly, i.e app store, imessage, pinger, facebook, etc.  I have checked all network setting and they looked right to me.  Anything I'm missing, ideas to try, or am I sol (lol)?  Safari worked perfectly before the update so I thought I might have done something wrong or forgot to change some type of setting.
    Thank you!

If you can access Facebook while on Wifi at home, but you are unable to access it while away running on your carrier's 2G network, I could phone your carrier.  You have already completed the Cellular Data troubleshooting for the iPhone, so any limitations keeping your from connecting to Facebook over cellular will have to be answered by your carrier.

    safari not opening .asp pages
    i am running safari 6.0.5

I can't test because I don't have a login, but you can try the following.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
