Safari not opening - please help!

for the past 2 days my safari has not been opening - i click on it and nothing happens, when i move the mouse over the top toolbar the waiting cursor appears, so i just have to force quit ! i don't know what to do. i have tried re-starting the laptop.....

Hi Annabel,
Can you do a test and log into another user account on your machine to see if it works normally there? You can create another user account with System Preferences > Accounts > \[+\] if you don't have a spare one.
If it does work there, it could mean there is a problem with some user-specific cache files that are stored in a system area. In that case, log back into your normal account and try running Onyx with the settings shown on this page:

Hope that helps.

  • TS1717 iTunes will not open- please help!

My iTunes will not open.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same message keeps showing up when I try to open iTunes.   The error reads "C\Windows\system32\dssenh.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
    Please Help!!!

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with one of the Windows OS dlls associated with Cryptographic Services.
I'd first try the fixit from the following Microsoft document. (One of the things it does is reregister your copy of the dssenh.dll file.)
You cannot install some updates or programs
... but if you still get the issue, I'd try an sfc /scannow as per the instructions in the following document:
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

  • Freehand Download Not Opening - PLEASE HELP.....

I purchased Adobe Freehand a while back but have had to reload the package.  I went onto the official site viewed my downloads and re-downloaded the package but have been unable to open the zip file.  I keep getting the following error message:
"Cannot open file it does not appear to be a valid archive.  If you downloaded this file try downloading it again"
I have tried about 4 times but still get the same error message.
Really have no idea what to do?????
    PLEASE HELP

Is the extension ".zip" at the end of the name of the downloaded FreeHand? If not, type it in and try again to open it.
If the extension says ".sit" then it is a mac archive and you will need Stuffit: http://www.stuffit.com/mac-expander.html to open it up.

  • .MOV files not opening - please help

    Can anyone help please:
After having all sorts of problems with my iMac, I wiped my HD, reinstalled OSX (snow leopard) and restored my system using Time Machine.
Now some, but not all, of my .MOV movies filmed on iPhone will not open.  I just get the message "The document “IMG_00xx.MOV” could not be opened." in Quick Time Player.
Worst of all, I had backed-up these movies both using Time Machine and just as a copy of my Movies folder to an external HD.  However these back-ups also do not open.
Please can anyone help - I'd be really upset to lose these movies for good.
    thanks

no good here.  software updates is what got me scrambled and no new updates available.  I'm still on Leopard 10.5.8 so I think it's a conflict there and os 10.6 or 10.7 would solve it.. but I don't have time to drive 2 hours each way to the nearest Apple store to get the thumb drive OS 10.7 in time to finish my project by tomorow.  If that is the issue, I wish Apple's techies had disabled quicktime update for 10.5.8 and instead say (to use the newest Quicktime upgrade your os to 10.6)  At least I hope that's the issue.  Thanks for the info though.  need to get through this weekend and get this project done for a live performance, then I can worry about upgrading OS.

  • Itunes Icon bounces, will not open PLEASE HELP!?

I have an Imac G4 running 10.4.11. I am/was using Itunes 7.6.4. About a month ago afer downloading and installing updates from the system updater, My Itunes stopped working. When I attempt to open the app either from the dock or from the applications folder, the Icon will bounce once, sometimes two or three times, then stop, and the App will never load. I tried repairing permissions, no response. I tried removing the "com.apple.itunes.plis" file from User>Library>Preferences because i saw it in a forum for a similar problem on this site, no response. I backed up my music, deleted itunes, and reinstalled, no response. I deleted the application, then attempted to install an older version of itunes 7.5, same result.
I dont know if it matters, but i have a Shuffle model A1204, and an Iphone. I am at a loss. I have all my discs that came with the computer, and I'm up for trying anything. Im at whits end. Please help.

You may have to reinstall the OS or even upgrade to Leopard. By the way, get a new mac if you want to upgrade.

  • Itunes 7.0.2 will not open- please help!

I have just downloaded the new itunes 7.0.2. It downloads seemingly successfully and the icon appears on my desktop but if I try to open it an hourglass appears for a second, then disappears and then nothing happens at all. It refuses to open at all and gives no error message.
    Please help!!

Make sure your Windows software is up to date. I was having the exact same problem, but then I went to microsoft.com, updated my software (I don't use the automatic updates), rebooted, then removed iTunes, iPod, and QuickTime completely from my computer (using add/remove programs in the Control Panel), rebooted, then reinstalled iTunes 7, and now it is working perfectly.
Also check to make sure your anti-virus software firewall is allowing full access to itunes.exe, ituneshelper.exe, quicktimeplayer.exe, qttask.exe, and qtinfo.exe.
Hope this helps. Only took me five hours to get mine working.

  • Core Mac software not opening (PLEASE HELP)

    Hey guys
I recently did a clean sweep of my computer using MacKeeper, to clean my caches, junk and duplicate files, now my programs like iCal, IChat, Mail, Address Book are not opening up when I click on them, is there a remedy for this without re-installing snow leopard?

Some "clean sweep." Try running the 10.6.4 combo updater and see if that helps. Repair permissions before and after.

  • I tunes not opening, please help

First, I am running I tunes on windows. Anyway. Every time that I click on my I tunes icon, the loading hour glass will apear for about 5 seconds, then dissapear without loading I tunes. I worked before but not anymore. Also I am not sure this matters, but I have installed other audio/video programs, Realplayer and windows media player, after i installed i tunes. Please help

I have exactly the same problem as you, although I haven't tried installing the stand alone version of Quicktime yet. I've seen countless people that have problems with the new iTunes and Quicktime.
I love my iPod, but it really annoys me how after paying loads of money for it I struggle to use the program I need to put music on it.
I had no problems at all with the old iTunes and Quicktime. I've heard that Apple could take ages before they sort out the problems with the new iTunes, but I hope that with the amount of people unsatisfied they will make an effort to come up with a solution quick.
I can actually use iTunes if I keep constantly trying to re-install it, usually every single time I want to start it up. But there are people who can't get it to work at all and I can understand they are even more annoyed.
    Please sort this out Apple!

  • Web pages do not open - Please Help

    I've noticed that both web browsers i'm using (Safari and Firefox) will not open certain web pages. They begin to load them then freeze half way through and never load (I've waited 20-30 mins and still nothing). Here are a couple of the effected pages addresses;
    http://www.myspace.com/
    http://www.lloydstsb.com/
    http://www.littlewoods.com/
    These plus many more.
I wanted to know if this is something anyone else is experiencing? Other computers (Not Mac) are opening these pages fine.
I'm wireless, running the latest updates and have an early MacBook Pro. I've not made any changes from factory (exept updates) as i've just wiped and
re-installed Tiger. Some pages open fine yahoo, google and others, This is also effecting Firefox!
    Any thoughts???

I've been doing a bit of research on this forum and have tried a few of the fixes.
The 4.2.2.2 one - tried it and nothing changed after the reset.
The creating a new account one - still freezes when loading in both accounts.
And finally removing the cookies.plist - made no difference.
I should add I have no firewall running, Mac or after market.

  • My Itunes will not open, please help

I am running version 10.7.0.21 - since upgrade itunes will not open.  I have visited the support site and done many things to get this working - taken hours of my time I do not have, including setting up a new user and same result.
My PC is running Windows 7.  I need my itunes as I have 4 ipods and 3 iphones - I need to back up a phone as I have just upgraded,
One error I seem to have caught is as follows:

    Fault Module Name Quicktime.qts_unloaded

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?

  • Safari not working, please help!!

alright, so i usually browse the web at work, and safari works just fine. when i get home and start using safari, at first it'll be fine but after opening a few pages, it just gets stuck like this:forever. the page doesn't load, it stays blank, the blue bar always gets stuck at the same place, plus i can't even open saved web pages with it! (but other brwsers work just fine)
the only way i solve this problem is restarting my mac, but I honestly don't want to do that every ten minutes.
the next day when i go to work, i restart it and everything is fine again. end of the day, i get back home, same problem occurs.
please!!!! help!!!! thank!!!! you!!!! so!!!! much!!!
    ps. system is lion 10.7.4

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
