Safari not opening sites

I've noticed since I upgraded to version 3.1.2 that I am frequently getting the message "Safari can't open this site" or part of the time it just seems to hang up with the the first portion of the url highlighted and do nothing.
I usually can copy the url and paste into Firefox which opens it without a problem.

Hello,
Sometimes repairing disk permissions can fix a problem like this. Quit all open applications. Launch Disk Utility, it's in your Applications/Utilities folder. With DU open, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, then select the FirstAid tab, then click Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished. Relaunch Safari and see if you can open sites you haven't been able to previously.
If not, with Safari open, from the Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache. If that doesn't help, click Safari/Reset Safari. This action will reset your Safari Preferences to default values.

  • Safari not opening sites it used to open

hi, i have safari 2.0.3, safari is not opening webpages it used to open easily, like my online bank site but others that aren't password protected. it doesn't say it can't open the site, it just opens it partially, the top part only. so i've been using netscape for those sites. any idea why this is happening? there don't seem to be any other issues. i have done my repair disk permissions and restarted. thanks, bobbie

    Bobbie --
It could just be real basic and easy stuff.
    Have you done these?
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    There are other easy things,
but these are the basics, at least in my own humble non-tech opinion.
    Report back, OK?
    If it's solved, we'll have a party.
If not, there's about 4 other easy things.

I have ipad with IOS 7,  Some apps doesn' t work, safari not open some web site. What can I do?

Try this and see if it helps.
    Settings>Safari>Clear cookies and data.
Now close Safari completely. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then "swipe up" or "drag up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I suspect that as well, that is why I asked:

And what procedure did you use to reinstall Panther 10.3.x, after the failed upgrade?"
I also suspect that if, after the failed Tiger 10.4.x upgrade, you performed an Archive & Install of Panther 10.3.x, and chose to "preserve your user and network settings", there could be some corruption of the system.
See this KB Article for info How to reinstall a prior version

"Downgrading" your operating system version to an earlier major version may lead to issues. For example, downgrading Mac OS X 10.4 or later by performing an Archive and Install installation with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier Install discs could lead to:..."
Could you please also post, how the Tiger 10.4.x upgrade failed?

  • Safari not opening .asp pages

    safari not opening .asp pages
    i am running safari 6.0.5

I can't test because I don't have a login, but you can try the following.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

  • 10.5.4 fix safari not opening?

For those of you, like me, whohave had safari not open after the 10.5.3 update, I was wondering if 10.5.4 fixed this. I have not had a chance to try it yet. When I try to install the latest safari update it tell me I need 10.5.2 or higher and I have 10.5.3. If this new leopard update fixes safari please post or post a fix for it using 10.5.4, because I have given up on 10.5.3

Was the update to 10.5.4 only for Safari or was it a systemwide update that just happened to affect Safari?
It's a system wide update that included some fixes for Safari.
Add-on programs and some plugins are now invalid with this most recent version
Your best bet is to wait for the developers of your extensions to update them. It usually only takes a few days. As many people here have found out, attempting to reinstall Safari can cause many problems.

  • Safari Not Opening All Pictures

    Hello,
I'm a college freshman that just received a MacBook to use for next semester. As you may or may not know, sites such as Facebook and MySpace are essential to the life of a college kid like me.
However, when I browse these sites with my MacBook, which is connected to wireless internet, if I look at people's picture albums, the thumbnails only show up as question marks. If I click on them, I can see them fine, but if I'm viewing them all at one time, no can do.
I've posted on this before, and one reply told me to make sure the "display images when page opens" option is checked in the Safari Preferences. I checked and it already is, so that's not really a fixing option.
Any other ideas, would be greatly appreciated.
    --New Mac User

    Hi bradley!
Congrats on your Macbook Pro! Is it your first Mac?
Ok a few things...it could be browser related, network related, or network settings related. So we'll try to narrow it down. As a general rule Macs are very easy to setup and should perform very well. Since you've posted in the Safari forum I'm going to assume first it's a Safari issue. If that's true then you should be able to blaze through sites with no prob using Firefox but once you use Safari it gives you problems. So if you don't have Firefox can you install it and see if that gives you problems. Sorry to ask you to download an app you might not have but most people do keep another browser in addition to Safari. There are others besides Firefox but that's the most common and compatibility is very good. (If you want to talk more about browsers let me know.)
Can you post back and let me know the results? Than we can go from there...
    Reg
Note: let's continue this on your new post if that's ok? I will put a copy of this post there...

  • Safari not opening Home page at start-up

I prefer Safari to open my Home page when it is launched at computer start-up via login items.
Safari 4.0.5 launches OK at start-up but it does not open my home page - launching it from the Dock does open my Home page.
Is there a setting I can change to get it to open my Home page at computer start-up?

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache...
Restart your Mac and see if Safari loads with your home page.
If not, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Now go to Safari/Preferences - General. Set your home page and restart your Mac. If it works as it should, move the .plist file to the Trash.

  • Safari not opening on ipad?

Safari will not open on iPad?

Try completely quitting the app first - double-click on the Home button to reveal the recetly used apps bar or dock. Press and hold on an app's icon in the recently used apps bar or dock until all begin to shake/wiggle. Select the "X" on Safari's icon to quit the app which will remove it from the recently used apps bar or dock.
    Try launching Safari again.
If no change, try powering your iPad off and on.
If no change after that, try an iPad reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
