Safari not processing iTunes links

Not only iTunes but all links from mail pulling up respective pages always pulls up blank page in Safari with folders of past pages history.  When I make Chrome the default browser, it opens then opens iTunes to the appropriate link -- in this case a book.  What's wrong with Safari?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Safari Not Opening External Links

When I click on any external link, eg: from Mail, Dashboard, a link icon on my Desktop, etc, Safari comes to the front, but does not open the link. Also when I try to "Reopen All Windows From Last Session", after reopening it, nothing happens. If I have a window open, I can drag a link off my desktop, drop it on the window, and the link will open.
I have tried resetting the cache per this link:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8777756&#8777756
Also running Macjanitor, and repairing permissions. None of these worked. Any suggestions?

That worked, thank you so much. Although I am a bit embarrassed that I didn't think to do that in the first place.
I also want to explain what caused it, and what happened after I reopened safari. The problem started after I installed Verizon Access to use with Verizon's wireless broadband; it crashed Safari, but at the time I didn't notice any anomalies upon restarting Safari. It took a couple days to realize that Safari wasn't opening any external links.
When I went to the preferences folder to remove the safari preference, there were two: one was "com.apple.Safari.plist" and the other was "com.apple.Safari.plist.saved". I put them both on the Desktop and reopened Safari.
I don't have a Home Page selected, I prefer just a blank window when I open Safari, but it opened a Verizon page instead. So I went to Safari's Preferences and removed it. Restarted the browser, but it was back. It took a couple tries, but now Safari opens with an empty window again, and everything else is back to normal.
What's odd is that the Verizon page didn't show up as the home page until I removed the .plist files from the Library.

  • Safari not loading picture links

    Hi,
I'm using Safari on Windows 7 and am having trouble with it loading some picture links (i.e Facebook).
I recently installed Avira (about a 2 weeks ago) as my antivirus, but no problems occurred until about two days ago. I've already tried changing the web browsing security with Avira, but to no help.
    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks.
Starting some basic pricinples troubleshooting now.
First we'd better determine if this is a systemwide problem or a user-account specific problem. (This isn't a cure in itself, but it will allow us to narrow in on some possible culprits and rule some others out.
Create a new user account on the PC with full administrative rights. Log out of your usual account and log into the new one. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Launch Safari in the new account. Do pictures appear on websites there that don't display the pictures in your normal account? Or does the same thing happen as in the usual account?

  • ITunes links not working

    Folks,
Am running iTunes 11.1.4.62 on Windows 7 64-bit and am having a few issues, which I suspect are related:
When I buy a season pass and emails arrive with a link to download newly posted shows that have already been purchased, the links do not open iTunes - they just take me to the page to download iTunes, which I already have installed. This is not browser-related, it happens with all browsers (Safari, Firefox, IE.)
Links on the web to go to the App Store to download an app also do the same thing - instead of loading iTunes and taking me to the App Store they just bring to the page to download iTunes.
Lastly, every time I access the App Store, I get an email saying that it has been accessed from a new machine, which is not true. (And I frequently, though not always, get messages telling me that my computer is not authorized, even though it is - and when i click on 'authorize" it tells me that it is already authorized.)
Anyway, the first issue is most important... btw I have removed iTunes and done a clean re-install several times, but this has not fixed the problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Why is my Apple ID not working in iTunes and App Store on my iPhone? Nothing happens if I click buy for apps or music. If I then go to settings/iTunes App Store my Apple ID is not there. If I then enter ID and password it does not save or link to account?

Why is my Apple ID not working in iTunes or App Store on my iPhone? When I try to buy apps or music it asks for Apple ID so I enter my info and nothing happens. When I go to settings/iTunes App Store my Apple ID is not there. When I enter my ID and password it does not save or link to account. I do not have this problem with iPad ID is stored and can be used in App Store and iTunes. I have just upgraded to 5c and it's still a problem.

When fist setting up your new iphone you will be asked to log in with an apple id and password. If this did not happen you can then do as you suggested going to settings to itunes and app store and add your apple id login. This apple id login must have already been created for the iphone to accept it. If this apple id is already created but is not being accepted by your iphone you then should shut down your iphone and restart the device.
    Good luck.

  • HT204074 I have a new machine with a previous installation of Itunes, linked to another Apple ID. Even  I authorized the machine to my Apple ID, I can not connecto to the Apple Store. I tried removing Itunes and reinstalling it, but anything changed.

My previous machine has Itunes Installed, and I deauthorized the machine so I unlinked to my Apple ID, if this is correct.
Anyway, Dropbox is also not connecting....so I do not know how to make it woek. please help!

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • When I open a link in a pdf file downloaded by Foxfire, it uses Safari, not Foxfire, although I have designated Foxfire as my default browser

When I download a pdf file with Foxfire and then click on a link therein, it calls upon Safari, not Foxfire, to get that link. This causes some complications. I have designated Foxfire as my default browser, so this should not happen. Is this a fault of Adobe or something else?

  • Safari not connecting to iTunes from email

I've been trying to connect to iTunes from my weekly email (hotmail) iTunes updates, but every time I do it goes to the 'connecting to iTunes page' and never connects to iTunes and ends up freezing safari. I've had the same thing happen when I tried linking the facebook iTunes link (specifically the back to school sampler) to iTunes and the same thing happens. Anybody else with the same problem?

I don't have any problem with the URL you gave in your reply, but if you can't connect to iTunes from within Hotmail, then I'd say it's an issue with Hotmail. You could just change your subscription information so that iTunes emails are retrieved from Hotmail using Mail, instead of logging into Hotmail to read them; that may solve your problem.
Or, you could copy and paste the links in the email directly into Safari and see if that works any better for you. It's possible that the links themselves aren't correct, but then Apple would no doubt be hearing complaints from millions of people who subscribe to that email newsletter.

  • Firefox does not process paypaly continue_shopping links correctly.

firefox does not process paypaly continue_shopping links correctly. When you are at the paypal 'View Cart' and click on the continue shopping link it should take you back to the page you came from (this works in IE and Chrome) instead you end up on a 'sign in to PayPal page'
As far as I know this will happen on any page that is using PayPal add to cart buttons with a continue_shopping_url but you can see it on my own page below.

Very odd today it seems to work ok. I've tried it several times over the last week and each time it would do as described above. Today it works properly. Go Figure.
