Safari not reading Cyrillic as well as it used to

Recently, none of the Text Encoding options for Cyrillic have been able to read several websites I've visited. Instead, all I get is a row of squares in place of letters in Russian. Does anyone know why this might be and/or how I can fix it? Thanks in advance!

Here are two examples of the problem I'm having:
http://www.rvb.ru/ (all squares under the heading "Публикации" [Publikatsii])
http://rulex.ru/01021318.htm (scroll down the page - it's all squares for me after Биография, Россия, История, and Знаете ли вы?)
Thanks in advance!

  • Safari not reading Arabic website correctly

    Dear Experts,
Is there a way to add fonts to Safari? Cause when i open some arabic websites i am not able to see the website font displayed correctly. I am using ITouch with the latest update. Your feedback is highly appreciated.
    Regards.

Unfortunately, character encoding errors are a significant problem in both Safari and Mail. Apple needs to add a function for users to be able to specify the encoding for a web page or mail message. When Safari or Mail guesses wrong, there is no way for the user to manually select the correct character encoding.

  • Safari not reading CSS scripts correctly?

I have in my .css file a command as thus:
    menu {
    font-family: "Monotype Corsiva";
This under all circumstances works, Monotype Corsiva is in OS X, and Windows OS's... but for some reason Safari won't view the font... why?
This has to be a Safari bug, for I can get some other cursive fonts working...if it isn't how do I get the fonts working in Safari?

It also doesn't answer my question.
I doubt you will find one here. You might go to
    http://webkit.org/
and try the latest nightly build and see if it works better.

  • Labview not reading csv file properly.

I'm trying to use the read spreadsheet file vi to read the attached csv.
It does a few things incorrectly:
    1) the first cell of the resulting array has ÿþ appended to the front of it, seems like labview is grabbing some special character it shouldn't? (Notepad, notepad++ and excel can all open the file without issue and none show ÿþ or anything like it).
    2) It's mistreating the EOL characters as two line feeds, resulting in blank rows between each data row. (Looking at the csv in notepad++ confirms that the lines are ended with a CR and a LF (same as EOL).
    3) I'm reading it in as a string, because one of the columns is non-numeric, but then I strip that column out and attempt to convert the remaining string array into a numeric array (this fails). It also fails if I pull out an individual element of the array and attempt to convert it to a number (in both cases using fract/exp string to number), below I have an example of trying to read the 2nd column of the 1st row (index: 0,1) which is formatted as a string: "1.37238168716431" and converting that into a number gives 0 as you can see in the snapshot of the front panel.
    Solved!

I guess the file is in unicode, that doesn't help me very much.
I don't use the "Read from Text File Function" - at least not directly, although it is called in Read from Spreadsheet File. Where is it called, however, right-click doesn't show an option for Convert EOL, instead it's a terminal and it's default is F and as the terminal is disconnected, I'm assuming it's not converting EOL. So it's already "unchecked" in a sense.
No idea how to convert the unicode string to ascii. (no functions show up when i search unicode or ascii in the manager). It displays it just fine in the text box, so I'm not sure why it's able to display it without issue but not read it as a number.
Using Labview 8.6, by the way.

hi um i have the ipod 5 and my computer seems to be fine with the wifi but when i pressed wifi and my wifi does not pop up it i put it on airplane mode reset the  networks erased my safari history . and it still has not read my wireless internet ?

    If not:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Adobe PDF Document in Safari not working

    Hello,
Recently put Abobe Creative Suite on my MacBook Pro - which is working fine. But when I go to view a PDF online with Safari it brings up this message:
Tried reinstalling Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat works fine generally opening PDFs so not sure what's wrong. Google Chrome on my MacBook Pro can view PDFs like normal.

    Daniel

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari Not working on certain web sites......

There are many sites where Safari does not work correctly.
    A example is eBay.com and GoogleBase.com
Where you are trying to enter text in the "sell a item" window.
I have been told by these sites that I need to update to a newer version or Safari.
    I am running Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3) on a iMac G5 2.1Mhz OSX 10.4.8
When I Use Foxfire on these web sites I have NO problem entering text.
    Why will Safari not work?
    Is Safari to old?
Are the web sites to new?
    Thanks

Complying with security standards and complying with web design standards are two entirely different things.
Many web sites don't comply with web design standards - it's an unfortunate fact of life. In a very many cases, it's because the sites are designed to work with Windows Internet Explorer* with no attempt to make sure the web sites work with any other browsers or on any other platforms. Usually that doesn't result in the inability of a web browser to access the site properly, but in some cases it does.
*(In case anyone thinks Windows Internet Explorer should be the standard, this simply isn't realistic, despite possibly sounding sensible on the face of it. Web design standards are based on usability guidelines and and well-researched methods to make web page code more practical, streamlined, and able to be used on a variety of devices and by people with a variety of needs. They're not just a set of rules that can be changed on a whim to conform to a certain web browser's quirky way of rendering sites. Internet Explorer is notorious for not being compliant with agreed upon web standards. Internet Explorer is even inconsistent in how it renders web pages from one IE version to the next, complicating matters even further.)

  • Safari not printing from hotmail

I am running Mac OS 10.5.5 with Safari. Since hotmail has done their recent site upgrade I can no longer print my emails with Safari. The preview comes up blank and when you print it is blank. I have re - installed the latest drivers and have done all of the latest software updates on my computer. When I try firefox it will print but cuts off the page on the right hand side. Does anyone have any ideas

Thank you for your reply. I have tried to save as a PDF and the PDF file saves as a blank form also. Never tried Camino - I will check it out. I am using a Konica Minolta Magicolor 5430DL. I am on a network and have tried my other printers as well and I get the same result with all of them. I also just downloaded the latest release of Safari with hopes that would work and it did not.

  • Safari not supported, told by my IT guy to use IE

I bought my MacBook Pro basically for work, my family owns a few new car dealerships, ad I am to manage their web pages, and our new program is all web based, and my IT guy and host said their system will only work on IE, i've used a few of their tools on Safari, but the one I really need to use will not work.
I cant even do it at home because thats all I have are Macs, and the PC here at the dealership are always in use. Is there anything I can do for Safari to work? What makes IE so much different than Safari? And finally, I hate to even ask this, but is there an IE for OS X?

    Hi
If the site in question uses Microsoft's proprietary ActiveX coding, then you won't be able to access the site on the Mac side. As designed by MS, this code (rather outdated at that) is Windows only.
With that said, have you tried the site using another browser such as Firefox or Camino?
If still no go, then your other option would be to install Windows on your machine, either using Apple's Boot Camp, which is included on your Leopard Installer DVD (you'll need a Windows Vista or XP installation disk), or one of the emulation software packages such as Parallels or VMWare. Have a look at this Macworld article, as well as this article from EveryMac.com.
The basic distinction between Boot Camp and the others is how you access Windows. In the former case you would need to reboot your machine to go from one system to the other. In the latter, you would not need to reboot, however, performance would not be as fast as Boot Camp.
Then, you would be able to use any of the Windows based browsers such as IE, Firefox, or even Apple's Safari (windows version).
Note: using Windows on a Mac makes your machine susceptible to the same viruses, spyware, etc. affecting any Windows system. In that regard, either limit how you use the machine in the Windows world, or install necessary spyware and virus detection programs to minimize these problems.

  • Just updated, safari not opening....cant find all extra apps to delete

i just updated a bunch of things, and from my research this explains why safari suddenly keeps crashing when opened. i dont know what little apps might be messing with it so i just want to go back to the previous working version....what is the best way to do this? tried searching for athe previous version of to download here but couldnt find.
anyone finding an easy solution to this problem??
    THanks!

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, as well as the latest Java update.
