Safari Not Recording Browsing History

I have a new iPad Air.  Safari is not recording any of my browsing history.  I checked my General settings, Privacy settings, and Safari settings, but I can't find anything that would cause this problem.  I also tried powering down and restarting.  Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?  Thanks,  Greg

Make sure that private browsing is not enabled.
Click safari then click the icon on bottom right looks like two boxes one in front of other.
Once clicked select private on bottom left.
Good Luck!

  • Safari is not recording browsing history

There is no history after a few weeks of browsing on a new install. What is going wrong. Check many times. Would be using Chrome but it's packed up since I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite.

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

Played around with Safari/ipad settings and deleted all browsing history.  Now it doesnt track website history at all even when private isnt manually selected.  Have I changed a default?  Want it to track History now and cant find an obvious fix!

  • Firefox recording browsing history; "You have visited this page X times."

I had to reinstall Firefox. I use Google as my search engine.
I finally got things to where my browsing history was not saved. (Or at least I assumed it was not.) Suddenly, a week after I reinstalled Firefox, I am getting that tag "You have visited this page X times. Last visit was [date]." What is going on?
I DO NOT want my history tracked. I have Firefox clear the cache EVERY session, and I also run CCleaner.
What is very interesting about this is, I have requested my history not be tracked many months prior to reinstallation, and it seemed to not be doing it. Yet, today, when I do a Google search, it tells me my last visit to a certain site was 4/26. NOTE: I have had (supposedly) Google not tracking my search history for months.
Also note: This time, I left checked the "Remember search form and history box." But if I supposedly wasn't being tracked before, why the heck does it remember the last time I visited a site?
I want to know definitively--Is there a way to make my usage utterly anonymous, at least to Google. I am trying to get an idea of where a nonprofit site I run is appearing in search results. Because Google starts putting first any site you regularly visit, this makes it impossible for me to track how the site is actually doing.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    For research purposes, you could:
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder. However, Flash cookies may be shared among profiles (maybe, not sure).
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
    Do not delete anything!
Click the Create Profile button, use name like June2014, and skip the option to change the folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
''Before searching:'' Let's take Flash cookies out of the picture by preventing sites from using Flash automatically. To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".
And finally, does Google give you different results in this new profile?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • Awesome Bar will not show browsing history after update - I have location bar set to show from history and bookmarks with history being saved for 10 days. How do I fix this?

I updated firefox last night and now none of my history will show up in my location bar. Everytime I either close the browser window or start a new tab I have to completely type out new addresses.

I'm the original asker. I uninstalled Firefox, including associated personal data and reinstalled. It now seems to work. I used FEBE to reinstall bookmarks and extensions.

  • Safari not showing recent history

The newest item showing in the history folder is from 9 days ago. Other programs (email) are also not filing sent and received items in chronological order. Some items are being buried as far as two years back. I have reset PRAM. It seems that the computer's "filing clock" needs to be reset. I would welcome suggestions for a fix. Thanks.

    NotAgain,
    I found this:
    http://www.forevermac.com/ibooks/AppleMac_iBook_G4_93314.htm
which indicates that a PRAM battery is "N/A" for your model which I take to mean not applicable or better....does not have one.
So, I guess you are back to square one. I don't know much about notebooks myself, but I wonder if it is your actual battery is not holding its charge or something like that. It sounds like a hardware issue to me...but as I say I don't know much about iBooks.
Perhaps it would help to post in the Power, Battery and your iBook G4 forum and see what those users think. Ask if they feel if it might be caused by your battery or have other suggestions.
sorry I couldn't be of more help,

  • I have 64bit firefox and it does not keep browsing history?

Every time I click out of my browser, and if click back on it resets everything on my homepage, and all the history is gone.

You should check settings -Options>Privacy>check your History and Cookie settings. Make sure "Clear history when Firefox closes" isn't checked. Changes on your Home Page might require further investigation.
I doubt if you have Firefox 64bit which hasn't been publicly released for Windows yet(only Mac and Linux). Win 64 runs perfectly with Fx32 - we aren't missing anything at this stage. (I'm writing this bit for other readers, too).

  • My safari does not keep my history despite all the settings and adjustment i made to the safari preferences so as to be able to keep my browsing history. the browsing history is wiped out whenever i close safari.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Safari still creating website history with Private browsing on

Since downloading Lion I have noticed that despite having Private Browsing on Safari regulalry records a history of web sites visited. It doesn't do it all the time but I now have no confidence in this faciltiy. Has anyone else had the same problem?

This issue appears to be effecting Safari 5.1 in general, as I see this behavior both under Mac OS X 10.6.8 and OS X Lion 10.7. Still hoping to find a resolution, but I may suggest using "Report bugs to Apple..." under the Safari menu to ensure they are aware of this issue in the meantime.

  • Mozilla is not saving my browsing history beyond the last 7 days.

On one of my 2 computers, Mozilla is not saving browsing history beyond the last seven days. On my other computer, it saves all my browsing history.
Is there a setting I need to change? Is there some other reason for the abbreviated history?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Monitor Safari for iPhone browsing from iMac?

Don't know much about iCloud or if this is even an option. Wondering if there is a way to monitor web browsing (i.e. what sites are visited) on Safari for iPhone on my iMac using a combination of Parental Controls and iCloud somehow.  Is iCloud solely for syncing other types of content? Is there an option to disable the 'Clear History' function on Safari for iPhone? Never seen it....worth asking.
I know how to disable Safar for iPhone in the restrictions.  Trying to avoid that if at all possible.  Just want accountable usage of Safari for iPhone without having to disable it and download some other browsing app that will not match Safari's superb mobile browsing experience.

  • Browsing history is not being recorded.

Browsing history stopped being recorded. Yes, I've set it to record history. And yes, I've checked the questions here and I've tried creating a new database and all it did was delete my entire history. Then it recorded history for some time and now it stopped recording again. Any help?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Share safari bookmarks but not browsing history

In iCloud, how do I share safari bookmarks but not browsing history?

Thanks for replying. Private browsing doesn't save either type of history, so it wouldn't make a difference.
I don't want my browsing history available when Firefox is open. I sometimes leave the browser open for days at a time if I haven't turned my computer off.

I'm not sure but I think as browser history is just a series of URL links they would work with any browser. I found this info
    Symptoms
When syncing iPhone or iPod touch bookmarks between Safari and Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows, the Favorites bar in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 may not refresh to reflect changes or updates to the bookmarks.
For example, if you sync Safari bookmarks to your device and then make changes to the bookmarks on the device (such as deleting some bookmarks, editing the web address, re-arranging the order of the bookmarks), when you then sync those bookmarks to Internet Explorer, the changes will not be reflected in the Favorites bar for Internet Explorer.
    Resolution
To refresh the Favorites bar, quit and reopen Internet Explorer.
Seems to indicate they work with internet Explorer
