Safari not responding..freezing

is this normal?..i got the browser to freeze twice this last weekend...i'm new to mac...just switched...so dumb question
thanks

Hello mr:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
There are no dumb questions - answers, yes, but not questions.
It is not normal to have Safari (or anything else) freeze.
Try a couple of things:
Clear the Safari cache.
Trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist)
Restart
If that does not help, do a couple of other things:
Run repair disk from your software install DVD
Run permission repair from your internal HD.
Restart.
If that does not help, run the hardware checker that came with your system (to try to rule out hardware issues).
If none of those help, take your system to an Apple store (or call Applecare). You are under warranty, and Apple will troubleshoot the problem further.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Safari not responding all of a sudden please help!!

    Hi,
Could someone please help me because I don't know whats going on. I've had the iphone 5 since Nov 2012 and everything has been working fine.
All of a sudden on Tueday I was on the internet when it kept saying safari not responding. My wifi icon says I am connected. The weird thing is it will let me access the internet for maybe 5mins at the most then says not responding and it will maybe be half an hour before it'll let me on again, it might only let me on back online for 2 mins.
I have cheked wi fi settings and it says I am connected. It isn't letting me access youtube either (only for 2/5 mins like safari). Everything else is working fine. I checked my router and my home pc is working fine also. I have turned it on and off and linked it to itunes online for updates but software is up to date.
Even if my wi fi would sometimes loose signal in my house or outdoors I could still use safari through the 3G, I would run a tiny bit slower but not much. I am unable to access safari through the 3G also.
I just don't have a clue what's going on and would appreciate any help anyone could offer!! Thanks for reading my long winded question lol

No worries Gail I don't mind the more the merrier lol. Thanks for joining in Ocean to help with my weird problem.
I read a post on here last night about clearing cookies and data and history so I done that but today the problem still persists. I have it ticked to except cookies from visited sites. Should I untick this and select never?
It never occured to me to change web browser, doh!! I shall try that now and see what happens? Should the browser have an impact on youtube app that comes already on iphone though as this is playing up to?
Many thanks again to you both.

Why does Safari not respond after loading OSX Mavericks on a MacBook air?

What exactly happens? Does it launch at all? Have you tried rebooting?

  • What´s QTKitServer- (254). Web content for Safari (not responding)

Help Please!! Hi, my name is German, and I have a MBA 13 mid 2013. I have a doubt in according to activity monitor. Becasue there is an item in activity monitor (CPU)  that is says: QTKitServer - 254. Web content for Safari (not responding) in red colour.
Do you know what is that?
    Thank you very much,
    Germán.

    Hi,
I've also seen this Not responding QTKitServer-(xxxxx) process and i've suspected Safari Extension issue.
So i deactivated all the extensions, then reactivated one by one and i saw that the issue was ClickToPlugin (ClickToFlash also). It's occured while ClickToFlash block a Flash Advertising.
So, for now the only way is to deactivate ClickToFlash and to wait for an update from the developper.

  • Plug ins are up to date but still having touble with not responding & freezing

my plug ins are up to date. why am i still getting a mozilla not responding message and computer freezing?'''bold text'''

I have had this problem for a few days, no sound in Firefox, but IE and WMP (offline) have sound, this is a Firefox ONLY problem, so the volumes are all set correctly and the drivers and needed files are there, I've tried every fix that people have suggested on Google like checking the flash player settings, creating the "missing.reg" registry file and importing it, etc...
nothing works, I may just have to switch to Safari or Chrome, I watch a lot of video online (Youtube, ESPN3, NFL.com, etc.) so this is a huge problem...

  • Dreamweaver CS6 not responding (freezing)

I am running Windows Vista and performed the most recent update of Dreamweaver CS6 (I am using Creative Cloud) and my Dreamweaver program continues to not respond if I need to go out to another program and then back into Dreamweaver. It was not responding before the update, as well. I am using a Typekit script on all of my pages and this freezing/not responding thing just started happening, though it had worked just a few weeks ago. I have done the following:
    disabled Javascript
    disabled all extensions
    turned off "Display External Files"
    Currently defragmenting my computer
    Performed a disk cleanup
My site is not linked to any outside site. This issue is making my development double in the amount of time and I really need this fixed. Any other suggestions would be great.
    Thanks, Amber

and was told that my operating system, Windows Vista cannot run the new Creative Cloud CS6 products
That's complete rubbish.  I'm using Vista with Creative Cloud and have no problems.  Vista is essentially Win7.
There are a couple of 64 bit products I can't use on my 32 bit operating system but the rest work fine.
I suggest you delete your cache and/or personal configuration folder.

Hope someone has solved this problem before and can give me some good advice...
    Thank you very much!!!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
I just tried the site and no volume here either. I don't believe it's your browser causing the problem, but instead the web site needs to do maintenance.
Has this site worked for you in the past or is this the first time?
I just tried that site using the Firefox browser and it does not work there either.
It's not your Safari causing the problem. Not being able to read the text myself, look for a support link that you can use to contact their support area.
This is not something that anyone at Apple could help you with anyway.

  • Safari not responding after installing 10.6.8

After updating 10.6.8, Safari is behaving very strange.  Once homepage screen is loaded in Safari, anything I do it becomes 'not responding' and have to force to quit but It works fine in safe mode.   I removed all kernel extensions but no success.  Crome and Fireworks work fine but only Safari has a problem.
Have anyone had this problem and know how to solve it?
    Many thanks!

have you tried download (http://www.apple.com/safari/download/) safari and reinstall it?

  • Safari not responding instantly on startup.

Has anyone else had this issue where Safari stops responding immediately after you start it up?
When I click it, the icon bounces up and down like it normally does, but as soon as it stops, that little spinning color wheel shows up, and from that point, Safari is unresponsive. A browser window doesn't even come up. I went to the Apple Store to get it fixed once, and they did it somehow, so this is the second time this has happened.
Does anyone have a better time-saving solution, or help? Thanks ahead of time.

I am having the same problem. All of a sudden Safari seemed to stop loading. I would wait 3 or 4 minutes then force quit as it said Safari was not responding. I have since done everything imaginable including debugging with the debug menu, deleting the java cache, deleting every imaginable plist, going through every imaginable file and moving it to the desktop them reinstalling, removing all plugins, resetting, emptying cache, etc....
When I log in under a different account Safari works just fine.
Finally, if I let it go more than 4 minutes it finally loads the apple start page. But on re-initiating
Has anyone made any progress on this? It is frustrating!

  • Firefox will go intoa "not responding" freeze mode

  • Safari not responding on ipad 2.  Checked wi-fi, it's working.  Ipad not receiving or sending mail, either.

I recently uploaded the new iOS6 operating system. My ipad worked fine until this morning.  Watched video podcast, received early mail, but when I wrote 4 email messages I found them remaining in my inbox, and I was unable to get new mail, or to update facebook, or find webpages on Safari.  Got the message 'server not responding.'  I rebooted my wi-fi modem.  Didn't help.  Called wi-fi tech server.  They couldn't find a problem.  Wi-fi works on my computer and iphone.  Checked settings.  Wi-fi on and connected.  Closed all apps, and re-booted ipad.  Held down home botton and off button on ipad until the applea appeared, and waited.  Problem remains. What else can I try?

I was unable to fix it on my own.  My son suggested that I take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store.  Fortunately I was going to be in the city, and was able to make an appt. with the store closest to me.  A very helpful young 'genius' took my iPad in the back room and fixed it.  I don't know what he did, but he said something about 'firmware'.  I don't even know what firmware is, but he said it was unlikely that the problem would recur.  There was a sense that it had to do with the new  IOS6.  If you are able to visit an Apple Store that is what I recommend.  Make an appointment first online at Apple.com.  The service is free and I was VERY grateful to have my iPad restored!

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Not Responding (Freezing) When Working With Other Programs

    Hello,
I have a performance issue with Premiere Pro 5.0.3 version. When I have the program open and bounce to another program or Windows Explorer window lets say to drag in an asset such as a music or video file and then when I make the Premiere window active the program does not respond for a good 15 seconds, then after some processing (you see the mouse icon change and hear the hard drive chugging), I am able to again work. This is happening every time I switch windows to work on something else. Even if I just click away to another window and click right back without doing anything else, it does this non responding action. It even says it in the title bar (Not responding). I am wasting so much time waiting for the program to respond.
    My system :
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80 GHz
    8.00 GB of RAM
    Quadra 5800 Nvidia graphics card
Drobo Pro 24 TB drive (where my project files, music & video files live) connected via iSCUSI
Sonnet 4 TB raid drive (scratch disc) connect via ESATA
    Dual Monitors
    Please help!
    ~ Doug

    Doug,
Similar had plagued earlier releases of CS5, but I thought that it had been addressed with the CS5.0.3 update. Maybe I am wrong.
There were several other threads here, with similar problems. Maybe they contain some tips that will help. The "constant" seemed to be shifting focus from PrPro, and then back to PrPro.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
