Safari not slowing downloads. Help!

Why does safari not allow downloads. I am trying to download Microsoft office and it wil not allow it. Any suggestions?

No, Microsoft Office is for Mac (Office 2011) running OS X, not iOS (which is what runs on the iPad and iPhone).
To open and edit Office documents, I recommend DataViz Documents to Go (http://www.dataviz.com).

Safari not working, please help!!

alright, so i usually browse the web at work, and safari works just fine. when i get home and start using safari, at first it'll be fine but after opening a few pages, it just gets stuck like this:forever. the page doesn't load, it stays blank, the blue bar always gets stuck at the same place,plus i can't even open saved web pages with it! (but other brwsers work just fine)
the only way i solve this problem is restarting my mac, but I honestly don't want to do that every ten minutes.
the next day when i go to work, i restart it and everything is fine again. end of the day, i get back home, same problem occurs.
please!!!! help!!!! thank!!!! you!!!! so!!!! much!!!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Safari very slow downloading files

When I bought my MacBook Pro in 2009 I used Safari for few days then I switched to Firefox, and the reason for that is that downloading any kind of files goes very slow to around 5 KB/s while downloading the same file in any other browser is so fast. Now after the release of Safari 4 I thought this problem could be solved but here again the exact same problem and I really love the new safari except that this problem is really annoying me. By the way browsing is working perfectly fine.
I have a 2 Mpbs ADSL connection.

Preference files retain information about the default and custom settings for a particular application. Also, they store information accumulated over time not directly related to a preference setting.
In Safari's case, this retained and accumulated information comes from a variety of sources within and outside of Safari. For example, 3rd party add-ons, such as Glims, store information in the preference file pertinent to their operation and settings.
Sometimes, corruption occurs if this information is incorrectly coded in the software. In that instance, as Safari accesses the preference file, it will crash due to a flaw in the data stream. Another example - updating Safari from one version to the next might trigger corruption if the 3rd party content within the preference file is not compatible with the new version's operation.

Safari has stopped downloading, help!

Safari Version 5.1.10 doesn't download, instead it shows that it's loading a page and just shows me a blank dark page. Safari not opening - please help!

for the past 2 days my safari has not been opening - i click on it and nothing happens, when i move the mouse over the top toolbar the waiting cursor appears, so i just have to force quit ! i don't know what to do. i have tried re-starting the laptop.....

Hi Annabel,
Can you do a test and log into another user account on your machine to see if it works normally there? You can create another user account with System Preferences > Accounts > \[+\] if you don't have a spare one.
If it does work there, it could mean there is a problem with some user-specific cache files that are stored in a system area. In that case, log back into your normal account and try running Onyx with the settings shown on this page:

Thanks for the reply. Short answer: Safari, or Acrobat Pro.
In short, if I open Safari (or Acrobat Pro, or both), and quit them after a while (a few minutes or so), no problem. They quit as expected.
But if I open any of them (or both) in the morning (I cold boot the Mac in the morning and shut it down at night every single day) and try to quit any of them (Safari or Acrobat) at night, each one of them takes several minutes to quit. In fact, if instead of quitting them I try to shut down, I get the error:
"Logout has timed out" - "The application Safari failed to quit and is not responding"
or
"Logout has timed out" - "The application Acrobat failed to quit and is not responding"
If then I leave the Mac idle a few minutes and them try to shut down the Mac again, it shuts down (this time, immediately; in one second or so).
IN SUMMARY. Something is preventing Safari (and the same for Acrobat Pro) to shut down normally in a few seconds. Instead, they need minutes to shut down.

Firefox is up to 320kbs. What gives!

I'm having the same problem. I'm writing this from my PC using Explorer because the performance is TERRIBLE on my new MAC Mini running Safari. Even worse, I bought the MAC Mini to replace this PC. The PC performance is fine on the same network connection.

Slow Response by Safari (not slow network)

I've been having problems with Safari's speed for a while and I've treid the usual things (reset, clean out icons folder, trash prefs) but nothing seems to work.
I'm using an MBP 1.83Ghz with 2GB RAM. As I'm typing this in the web form on the Apple support site Safari cannot keep up with the keyboard (and I'm not a fast typist believe me!) If I have multiple tabs open and I mouse click to switch between tabs there's a delay of at least a second before Safari responds. Same thing happens when I click on any menu.
I expect this sort of performance from Microsft Office but not from one of Apple's own applications! Activity Monitor shows that I have plenty of unused RAM and the CPU usage isn't overly high.
Can anyone suggest a solution? This is driving me crazy!!!

Problems specific to filling in a web form is an indicator for corruption in the AutoFill file. Go to Safari Preferences>AutoFill. Uncheck the box, then go back to a Autofill page and see if performance improves. If it does, then you have corruption in the file. If so, go back to the Autofill Preferences. Select "edit" for Other forms. Either delete the entire file, or remove from it web sites you no longer use. I would choose the latter option first and see if that improves Safari's autofill performance. If it doesn't, delete the entire contents of the file.
Overall system performance can lag when routine maintenance is not performed on the computer. When was the last time you used a Maintenance Utility on your machine such as OnyX?

You can change the email address you use as your apple ID. this doesn't mean you have to delete the old email address as email.
When you delete an email from your device, it is only removed from the device, it does not delete your emails or the email account.

Slow download - HELP

I just purchased the 80g ipod and I'm trying to download a movie.....I purchased the movie from itunes, but now it is saying that is takes 8 hours to complete. I don't know what is wrong, I am not using dial-up. Can someone tell me what the problem is?

I also have a new 80gb ipod, and just tried to download video to it for the first time. I found it took about 5-6 minutes to download a single episode of Grey's Anatomy (30 minutes, I think). Does this ratio sound right, to you? I'm using a high-speed cable modem on a pretty fast Dell tower (2.8 Ghz, 512 MB RAM). For some reason, I was thinking the download would be faster, but maybe the technology just isn't there yet. Are downloads faster on Macs?
On a related topic, is it possible to download video from sources other than itunes? Their tv and movie offerings are quite limited.

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!
I hope this helps, because it was incredibly frustrating. Good luck!

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

1.Download speed depends on the Internet Service Provider.
2.Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
   It will take a while.
   Restart the computer.
3.Start up in Safe Mode

Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to " Remove saved names and passwords".
Click "Reset".
5.Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
