Safari not supported, told by my IT guy to use IE

I bought my MacBook Pro basically for work, my family owns a few new car dealerships, ad I am to manage their web pages, and our new program is all web based, and my IT guy and host said their system will only work on IE, i've used a few of their tools on Safari, but the one I really need to use will not work.
I cant even do it at home because thats all I have are Macs, and the PC here at the dealership are always in use. Is there anything I can do for Safari to work? What makes IE so much different than Safari? And finally, I hate to even ask this, but is there an IE for OS X?

Hi
If the site in question uses Microsoft's proprietary ActiveX coding, then you won't be able to access the site on the Mac side. As designed by MS, this code (rather outdated at that) is Windows only.
With that said, have you tried the site using another browser such as Firefox or Camino?
If still no go, then your other option would be to install Windows on your machine, either using Apple's Boot Camp, which is included on your Leopard Installer DVD (you'll need a Windows Vista or XP installation disk), or one of the emulation software packages such as Parallels or VMWare. Have a look at this Macworld article, as well as this article from EveryMac.com.
The basic distinction between Boot Camp and the others is how you access Windows. In the former case you would need to reboot your machine to go from one system to the other. In the latter, you would not need to reboot, however, performance would not be as fast as Boot Camp.
Then, you would be able to use any of the Windows based browsers such as IE, Firefox, or even Apple's Safari (windows version).
Note: using Windows on a Mac makes your machine susceptible to the same viruses, spyware, etc. affecting any Windows system. In that regard, either limit how you use the machine in the Windows world, or install necessary spyware and virus detection programs to minimize these problems.

What's up with Safari not supporting the United States Postal Service web apps since the last update?

Exactly what web apps? Did you see them at the Mac App Store? Or can you post a link to where you saw them please.
Or are you talking about an iPhone or iPad with iOS?

Ipad2 gives me ""accessory is not supported" message w/ VGA adapter that I used lots of times before. Now it's not working. Why? and how do I get it back to normal functioning?
I used the (Apple branded) VGA adapter lots of times last year. Now I got back to one place I used it many times and it does not work. When I restart iPad with the adapter connected, I get the "accessory is not supported"message. But that same accessory WAS supported before.
This is very annoying as I planned a whole bunch of presentations starting this week to do with my iPad2 and that adapter.

I received the same error message, "Accessory Not Supported"  from both the VGA and DV video adapters I purchased, both were boxed direct from Apple. However, to bypass this problem I  simply clicked on Photos icon on iPad2 and flipped through photos until it displayed on my projector.  I then exited the Photos app and my home screen displayed fine on the projection screen.
Some logic issue with the video adapters, but launching Apple Photo app initializes the video adapters then they work fine for mirroring after that.
    Platform: iPad2
    IOS: 5.1.1

  • Can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture. I'm using mac os 10.5.8

Been using Firefox (many years) version 3.16.. Received invitation to download Firefox version 4 for Mac this morning and did so (regretably losing 3.16 version) because now the new version 4 won't open. I just keep getting the error message "You can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture." I'm using the latest Mac OS 10.5.8. The processor is 1.8 GHz Power PC G5.
I trashed the first download and downloaded a 2nd Firefox version 4 and had the same results.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

my samsung says video out from i pad is not supported. i am connecting with apple dock using hdmi. I do get the audio  any suggestions?

    Jeffrey-
If the HDMI input to the Samsung is not compatible, does it have a VGA or composite input?  I have both the HDMI and VGA adapters for the iPad, which work with the small Vizio HDTV I tried.  I understand a composite video adapter is also available.

    Hola,
Try changing the user agent string to be one of the browsers they recommend (search for 'debug menu' on this forum if you're not sure how to activate it). If it works, then they are using some numbskull validation checks. If it doesn't work, they probably doing something non-standard.
Jusging by the validation check it looks pretty badly done.
They created this browser. I remember when you could send reports to Apple for incompatabile web sites. I think they still need that now.
You still can. They just removed the debug button from the default toolbar selection. Safari menu -> Report bugs to Apple...
It takes two to tango in this game really. Websites need to do their part to write standards compliant pages, and Safari needs to be more tolerant of said non-standard pages.

  • Does Safari not support scrolling in frames within a webpage?

I haven't been able to scroll frames in webpages on my iphone. Am I doing something wrong is does Safari just not support that?
If they don't support that, that *****.

I just stumbled across this, but I think it works if you scroll with two fingers, just like a MacBook touchpad (assuming you've used one). just put two fingers over the frame and slide them up/down. That was able to scroll a frame for me.

  • Safari not supporting Web Standard?

    Hi,
I was baffled a little while ago when i went to the American Chemical Society's web page to download some articles and was given an error msg on the page itself, that my browser did not support Web Standard.
I find this really odd, because this MBP isn't more than 4 weeks old.
Also in Windows Live Mail I am stuck using the 'light' version because Safari supposedly doesn't 'have what it takes' for the full version of WLM (although my 5 yr old PC does ???).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    François

I have no problem viewing the page either. It was a different page than the one I initially saw.
Can I get a 'New Tab' button to show up on Safari, or do I have to go via File--> or Apple+T ?
Regarding a New Tab Icon: Safaricon is a great 3rd party application for creating custom Safari icons, including ones for new tab. Improves the GUI appearance quite a bit. If you download the program and its many themes, you'll see quite a selection. I use the theme "Molokini". The developer, who lives in Hawaii, is very responsive to questions etc.
    Very easy to install.

  • Safari not supported

I downloaded Mavericks and everything was good but after a day, this message shows up when I tried opening Safari: You can't open the application "Safari" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.
So now I can't even open Safari. HELP!!

    Hi, deionisedwater.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend processing any available updates on your MacBook Pro and test launching Safari.  If the issue persists, process a reinstall of Mavericks.
    Reinstall OS X

  • I am trying to resize disk space on parallels 6 for windows XP under configure Hardrive and I get the error resizing failed unable to resize last volume the file system of this volume might be damaged or not supported?  I am on a Mac using Parallels 6

I have been trying to increase my disk space for windows xp on my Imac and I am running parallels 6.  before opening windows I go into configure in parallels and open the hard drive and try to move the allotted disk space from 32 gig to 64 or any other increased gig and then apply and I get the error message: resizing failed unable to resize last volume.  The file system of this volume might be damaged or not supported.  How do I increase the size??  I just also did a disk repair utility with Apple on the Apple side of my IMAC.  Please Help!!   I had uninstalled SQL server on the windows side and needed to uncompress files to install this and then I ran short on disk space.

This sounds to me that your Parallels XP file system is corrupted and not the OSX file system.
Have you checked the XP file system while running the Parallels XP yet ?
However, it would be better to ask such question in the Parallels Forum http://forum.parallels.com/

  • I want to download movies to my ipad directly.  The free VLC media says it does not support address. What app should I use or where am I going wrong?

I want to download movies from Putlocker to my ipad directly on off hours.  I read to get the VLC media (free) app.  I put in the address for Putlocker and it stated that this version did not support this address.  Help!  I am new to this and want an app that is easy, supports Putlocker, set time to download and speed.  Any suggestions?

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

  • I've gotten the message Sorry, your browser/program is not supported by Web Dynpro! I'm using Windows 9

I attempted to open up a program, it seemed to open fine until I tried to click on the tabs to view specific information & that is when I received the message that my browser/program is not supported by Web Dynpro. I checked the website for Web Dynpro but their downloads only cover Windows 8.

There is no Windows 9 as Windows 8 is still in Beta testing and not out until 2012.
There is Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) browser and you appear to be using Windows 7.
Perhaps the 8 is for the IE8 browser.
Perhaps the unnamed download you are referring to from Web Dynpro is only for IE.

    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click  Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
    2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

  • Safari not supporting YouTube

Since restoring a newly installed hard drive from Time Machine, Safari has not recognized site's security certificates? Even when coming onto the Apple site to make this post, it didn't recognize the security certificate of the site. I've also noticed some difficulty with certain sites being able to even load the first page.
Any others having had this issue and gotten it fixed?

    1. The process by which OS X checks the validity of root SSL certificates doesn't work behind the authenticating SOCKS proxies used on some enterprise networks. If applicable, contact your network administrator. The proxy server may need to have its settings changed.
    2. Disable the built-in application firewall and any third-party firewall, "security" software, or network filter. Failing to do this is a common mistake. Test.
    3. In some versions of OS X, Parental Controls has a bug that prevents loading of secure websites. Turn it off.
    4. Are the current date (including the year) and time shown on your system clock? If not, correct them and test.
    5. Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar of the Activity Monitor window, if not already selected. Enter "ocspd" (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Is a process with that name listed?
    If not, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Into the text box that opens, copy the following line of text:
    /var/db/crls
From the folder that opens, move these two files to the Trash:
    crlcache.db
    ocspcache.db
You’ll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot, empty the Trash, and test.
