Safari often freezes up my whole computer.

Safari often freezes up my whole computer. The cursor can move around some on the desktop, but then it quickly jumps back to the last safari page. Nothing seems to help. I have to shut down the computer from the power button. Argh!

Go step by step and test.
1. Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
2. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
    Click “Remove All Website Data”.
3. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
Turn on those one by one and test.

  • ITunes is freezing up my whole computer?

The latest version of iTunes along with the Apple Mobile Device Support is taking up 100% of my CPU and causing everything else to freeze up and become unresponsive. iTunes becomes unresponsive as well when I try to sync my iPod. How can I fix this? I'm really annoyed that I can't update my iPod, add more music, ect. And especially annoyed that it is affecting the preformance of my computer as well. Help!

    Try:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Next, post in the iTunes forum.

  • ITunes won't work and freezes up the whole computer!

I upgraded to the new 7.0 iTunes and for about 10 minutes it worked fine. I then changed my library view to the screen the shows the "jukebox-like" images of the album cover. Just a couple of minutes in that view froze my entire computer and now iTunes will not work at all! I've tried uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it and I've gotten nowhere! I don't get any error messages either. iTunes will open but it will show up with a completely black screen and the only thing showing is the part at the bottom right hand corner where the album artwork should be. I've been trying to figure this out, but I can't! Does anyone have any suggestions?

i tried reinstalling itunes and then this message popped up: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below".
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • 24" iMac running Lion often freezes

    Hello.
    I have a 24" iMac (Early 2009)
    2.66 GHz IC2D
    4 GB DDR3
    640 GB HD 7200rpm
    Nvidia GeForce 9400M
    OS X Lion 10.7.2
My iMac very often freezes and the whole screen becoms gray and it says : You need to restart your Computer.Hold down the Power Button.
    I don't get it.
I checked Disk Utilty and it says my Volume is fine.
    What should I do?
    This Really bothers me

This is not a freeze it is a system panic (crash). If you bought AppleCare your system would still be covered and you could call Apple for help. Or if you are near an Apple Store the Genius Bar can help analyze the panic. Analyzing panics is not easy. It could be a hardware problem triggered by Lion, it could be incompatible software, or it could be a bug in Lion itself.

  • 10.5.2 made Safari freeze my whole computer

Before Leopard, Safari would freeze (apparently when viewing a Flash site; I'm not positive this was the trigger) and the freeze would freeze the Finder and many other apps as well. I used Firefox and that solved it. When Leopard came out, I was able to use Safari again. With 10.5.2, the problem returned on the G5 dual, but not on my Intel MacBook Pro. Safari freezes, I can't quit, I can't even force quit and I can't do much else. Sometimes, if I let the computer sit for 10 minutes or so, everything is okay (after I quit Safari, that is), but not always. I'm back to Firefox and I don't feel good about it. Any ideas on how to get back to work?

I have the same problems on my iMac G5. Both browsers, actually any browser, and usually with Flash heavy content. There are a number of threads about this, including my own. None of them have any real answers. I suspect it has something to do with the ATI drivers. I base this on research of other people and stuff I found googling.
Btw, I also seemed to have similar problems after the latest Tiger update. This was one of the reasons I upgraded to Leopard a couple of weeks ago (clean-up the system, fresh install, etc.).
    ps.
Also check your /var/log/windowserver.log for message like below, I get them whenever a freeze start to happen (you can tail -f the log file in terminal, then browse to a flash site to test):
    Feb 26 21:49:16 69 kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGXSetWindowTransform: Invalid window 2523
    and:
Feb 26 21:49:01 69 kCGErrorFailure: CGXDisableUpdate: UI updates were forcibly disabled by application "Dock" for over 1 second. Server has re-enabled them.

  • Mail is freezing my whole computer

I feel as if I'm back using OS9. I've been fighting with this all day, as I'm getting sick of it - it's been going on for 2-3 weeks now.
As long as I'm actually using Mail it seems to be fine but if I leave the computer, whether Mail is the active appl'n or not, when I come back, the whole computer is hung and I have to force quit. I can move the mouse around, I can click to other appl'ns but I can't DO anything. I can get to the Finder but again, nothing works. I've hit the Force Quit key combination for 2 to 3 minutes at a time - nothing. The only solution is to force quit.
I've read these forums. I've verified my discs (all 4 of them: 1 internal, 3 external) I've repaired permissions using my installer disks at least 3 times (lost count). It still comes up saying there are permissions which need repairing but from another post on these forums they are innocuous and nothing to worry about (ie an iPhoto permission).
I've tried trashing my com.apple.mail.plist prefs and have rebuilt all my accounts TWICE today but then they don't work properly (can't send e-mails). I've tried restoring the prefs from TimeMachine, at which point Mail hangs immediately. What on EARTH is going on? Has anyone else been experiencing this? I'm wondering if there's any connection with the fact that 2 weeks ago I had my laptop hard drive and RAM upgraded. Could this have started the problems? I can't remember when I started having this freezing problem.
Having used a Mac for years (since 1986, I think) I know that they're pretty bullet-proof but at some point I'm sure it's going to say "enough is enough". I'm especially worried about my FilemakerPro files, as each time I open them after a crash they have to be rebuilt.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate hearing them. I'm ready to try pretty much anything! I'm also going to post this to the Leopard forum in case it's a system issue not triggered by Mail but from what I can see, it's Mail that's causing it.

Well Helen, feeling some pressure? I like your implication that you want to leave Apple over this, and that after 21 years, Apple now stinks. You may be right. Let's see.
How on EARTH did you get that idea from what I wrote??!!! You MUST be kidding because that's sure not what I said. What I said was that after 21 years of using Macs I know that they can take a lot of force quitting without trashing things.
Start by going to ~/Library/Preferences, trashing com.apple.finder.plist, and restarting.
I didn't think of that one - thanks, I'll try it.
If this fails, drag the entire Preference folder to the Desktop, and restart. Replace your Mail folder, and Mail preferences, and now see if the issue persists (If it does, the Preference folder can be replaced.
Hmmm. I'm not sure I'm following this. Wouldn't this totally mess up ALL my preferences for ALL my applications?
Note: You bet new RAM can be an issue. Know how to reseat it?
On a desktop tower type Mac, yes. On a laptop? No. I'm not sure I'd even want to try, to be honest. If that's necessary I'll just take it back to the service guy and have him do it.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • IPod sync freezes my whole computer

    Hi everyone
I'm having this really annoying problem of when I plug my iPod (120gb) into my computer my whole computer crashes, literally, I cant move the mouse, even the caps lock light on my keyboard wont come on or anything. I messed around with iTunes when it 1st happened and it worked again for about a week or so then it started to freeze up again. And I've tried all the usual 'resetting the iPod' and all the other stuff
Also, when I plug the iPod in not even the screen with the 'Do Not Disconnect' message comes up, the backlight comes on and the main menu or whatever screen I had on last appears and I'm still able to work the iPod as I normally would be able too
    Any help would be great
P.S. I don't know a lot about computers so I wont be able to tell you any information about it lol, sorry
    Thanks again, Jack

  • I have the latest version of Itunes but it freezes my whole computer when it starts up

I have the latest version of Itunes but it freezes my whole computer when it starts up.  I have installed/reintalled Itunes but it still stops my whole computer when I start Itunes.

OK, so we rule out LSP then,
Try following steps one at a time and test your itunes:
    1. Restart computer, right mouse click iTunes icon and select "Run As Administrator", now try your itunes.
    2. If that does not work, check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    3. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    4. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.

  • My whole computer freezes.

    Hello,
This just happened recently, but it seems as soon as my skype starts up, my whole computer freezes. Skype then eventually closes, and the freezing stops. However, when I open it back up again the problem persists and my computer proceeds to freeze up once more. I have tried everything to restarting several (about 20) times, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling (20 times). When I go into my administrative errors, this is the message I get:

  • IWeb freezes whole computer.

Lately, everytime I work on iWeb (2.0.3) it freezes the whole computer and there is nothing I can do but restart it. I have worked on different sites and the problem occures while working on any. Anyone's an idea on this?

    Hi,
I'm not sure this is the solution to your problem but it may be a problem with permissions...
    Try repairing disk permissions:
    1. Go to Applications/Utilities
    2. Open Disk Utility
    3. Click Macintosh HD
    4. Click on Verify Disk Permissions
    5. Click Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Safari is freezing my computer

Today I opened a video on FB, and a message said I needed two new plug-ins to run the video. I downloaded those. Since, Safari has locked up again and again. Not only is Safari freezing but my whole operating system. I've had to shut down and re-boot to continue. But the problem keeps coming up.
Isn't there a utility I can run to correct whatever I've messed up? I remember Apple having something to highlight incapatible extensions, but haven't used it in years.

In the Finder go to the Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins folder and then put the Finder window into List view (done at the top of the window, or by going to the View menu and choosing "List").
Then choose "Date Added" from the View > Arrange By menu, and this should reveal any items that were added to this folder today. Remove these items from this folder.
Then go to the Go menu in the Finder, hold the Option key while opening this menu, and choose Library from the menu. In this library, again go to the Internet Plug-Ins folder and repeat the above process to remove any items that were added to this folder today.
    After this, try relaunching Safari.

  • Freezing monitor/whole computer

My computer randomly freezes and then the screen says "Monitor going to sleep" and then the whole computer shuts down--regardless of whatever you were doing--and then restarts, with no explanation. Antivirus says there are no viruses or anything, and malwarebytes comes up with nothing. Any ideas and/or solutions? I have an HP Media Center PC m7357c.

    HI
while turning the comp on try Hitting F8 key on the top of the keyboard it will take you to an advanced boot options
try selecting "disable automatic restart onsystem failure"
this time the comp will not shut down it will give you a blue screen let me know what it says over there
