Safari on iPad freezes

I have a 1st generation iPad. This week, Safari started freezing when I opened more than one webpage. I've read other discussions suggesting clear the caches and/or reboot.
Reboot -- is that the only solution? Why has this suddenly started to occur? My iPad was problem free until this week. I am bewildered.

I wonder -- how many apps are too many apps -- for iPad 1st generation?
I have no clue! I am an iPad 1 user as well. I only have about 65 apps on my iPad right now. I use mine mainly for surfing the web, email, reading news, sports (especially) TV apps ... not much productivity stuff - although I do use Pages for some very light document creation.
I'm not saying that the game app will be your solution but any number of apps that rely on the internet may be causing a problem as well. It's just something else to consider. The best way to know is experiment. You can always download any purchased app again for free, it's the data that you may be "kissing goodbye".
Side note about deleting apps  .... I removed my Pages app just the other day (for experimental purposes) and reinstalled it and all of my documents were gone. BUT - I had just backed up the iPad prior to deleting Pages so then I restored from that backup and all of my documents were back in place just like they were before I deleted the app.

  • Safari on iPad freezes from time to time... Any hints?

We got three iPads at home, excellent machines. I use mine for work and also, sometimes, for browsing.
My wife is extremely happy with hers and doesn't want to use her pc anymore (no wonder): she uses internet to browse, read her newsgroups, upload and download info, copy photos, etc.
But hers sometimes freezes. The URL field starts reading but stops and no progress can be made.
What is the best way to procpeed?
I also hope Apple has a fix for that bug in a coming update.
    Thanks

Bugs, by definition, affect everybody, all the time. I'm just not seeing 10 million plus users all complaining about this and, believe me, they would be.
The progress bar can freeze up for any number of different reasons, with who perhaps to blame stretched out all the way from your iPad to your network to your ISP to the net itself to the server that you're connecting to.
As for best way to proceed, boilerplate follows:
A more or less standard sequence of steps is laid out in your User's Guide which you should follow in those cases when either your iPad or an app isn't behaving as it should. They sort of mirror 'The Three R's (Restart, Reset, & Restore) that you use for iPod troubleshooting, with a few extra iPad-specific things added in to the list.
Others here may just print out various parts of that list in their responses. I prefer instead to direct you to p. 170 of your Guide, in the Tips & Troubleshooting section. The directions there will start you out from the quickest and easiest first step, which will often be all you need to do, all the way to your atomic blast fix of totally restoring the iOS and all contents in your iPad.
You can call AppleCare, and they will probably have you do the same things. Or, you can take it I to a Genius Bar, and they will also go through the same steps. Needless to say, if you work through the whole process without being able to correct your problem, then you've pretty much shot your bolt and will have to start talking to Apple or the app developers for a resolution.

  • Brand new New IPad freezes all the time, on everything

I bought a New IPad a little over a month ago, to replace an aged laptop for my wife. Unfortunately the New IPad freezes all the time, about every five minutes, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. It freezes on pretty much everything, Safari, Chrome, even app store. I've tried reset, upgrading to IOS 6, pretty much everything I know off. I checked message usage, which is low, and I constantly make sure there isn't many apps running. But nothing helps. To me it's really a piece of crap. Very very frustrating.
My observation, although not very conclusive, is that everytime it freezes, it's in the middle of network activity.
Once it freezes, home button doesn't work at all, so no way to switch app, or kill an app.
Has anyone experienced the same? it's more likely a hardware issue, such as memory chip problem?
Any idea or suggestion to help, I'll appreciate.

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • HT4623 My iPad freezes on certain web pages such as my jet2login

MY iPad freezes on certain web pages and does not complete the task. Page back then works but certain pages it will not display are there any settings I am missing? Lynne

Clear Safari. Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data. Quit Safari and reboot the iPad.
From the home screen - Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Does anyone know how to do a text search in the new Safari for iPad iOS 7?

Does anyone know how to do a text search in the new Safari for iPad iOS 7?

The feature has been removed to make safari even less useable. You need to download a third party browser like atomic web browser to get the functionality you want back.
Like many new IOS 7 "features", safari on the ipad is a FAIL.
At least you can now bury safari in a folder containing hundreds of icons that you can only view 9 at a time.

  • I can not get my iPad to mirror with Apple TV. When I toggle to mirror the tv screen goes black and the iPad freezes. The iPad iso is up to date

I can not get my iPad to mirror on Apple TV. When I toggle the tv screen goes black and the iPad freezes. Have updated the iOS to latest settings and also updated the settings on the Apple TV

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • How to use KeyChain API from client-side HTML scripting in Safari on iPad?

I have a requirement where I need to add client-side scripting in an HTML page to be supported by Safari on iPad that creates a private / public key pair and that creates a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) in PKCS#10 or SPKAC format that can be sent to a certification authority server using form HTTP/POST that will then return the generated certificate.
I initially thought that I could simply use the HTML 5 tag <keygen> which can do exactly what I need, but unfortunately this tag is not at all supported on mobile Apple devices like iPad or iPhone, so I have to look for another solution.
I have noticed that the KeyChain tool should be available on iPad using the documented API, but I have no idea based on the documentation whether the API can be called from client-side HTML scripting on iPad.
Question : is it technically possible using the functionalities and API's exposed on an iPad to implement what I just described in HTML client-side scripting? If so, do you have some links with useful information that can help me on my way?

  • What do you do when your iPad freezes up. The message "iCloud Backup appears and reads "This iPad hasn't been backed uo in 6 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi." Each night I plug my iPad in to recharge.

What do yoou do when your iPad freezes up. My iPad is plugged in each night and is connected to Wi-Fi. This morning the following message appears:
    iCloud Backup
"This iPad hasn't been backed up in 6 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi."
I press OK and it does not budge. I try to power off. The red arrow appears but it does not slide to power off. The iPad has simply frozen on the home page.
    Mike

Try resetting it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then releasing.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

  • How do I bookmark a link in Safari on iPad?

The question is a bit more trickier than it sounds at first.
The problem is, I can't just open the link and then add it.
It's a "What's new" link in a forum and once you click it it changes from the actual generic link to a specific search ID link which then is pointless to bookmark
So I need to somehow copy and paste the generic link into the bookmark in Safari on iPad.
    Any ideas?

  • Audio on/off button is not coming in safari on iPad(iOS6)

    Hi,
We have published some content using Captivate 7. We are facing a problem where audio on/off button is not being shown in safari on iPad(iOS6) while this is working fine on desktop browsers.
    Thanks
    -Manish

There is no reset button.  To reset, hold down both the power and home buttons for perhaps 15 seconds and the iDevice will turn itself off.
But the problem you report (a blank lit screen shows for a second then disappears) is what you would get if the battery wasn't charged up.  Try plugging it in for a few hours, then turning it on normally.

  • Ipad freezes if I try to highlight text when composing mail

I am having trouble with the Mail application.  When I compose an email, if I try to highlight or select text from one email to copy into a new email, my ipad freezes and I have to exit out of the mail application.  When I open Mail again, everything is blank for about 5 seconds (showing no mail and no folders), then Mail closes.  If I select Mail again, it opens normally but usually will not save my last email.
I checked and my ipad is running the current OS software.
    Any help is appreciated!!

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Request for new sub-forum in the Safari area:  Safari for iPad / iPhone

Safari on the iPad/iPhone is different enough from the desktop versions that it deserves its own forum. Questions about iPad Safari are considered off-topic in the Safari for Mac forum. Can we have a new Safari for iPad/iPhone forum?

To get the phone number displayed in the notification ar you could try the following
