Safari on iPad quits suddenly

I have first generation iPad running IOS 5.0.1.  Safari periodically quits and goes back to the Home page.
It doesn't matter what the web page is. It is not consistent.
I have cleared the history and cache. Restarted holding the power button and home button at the same time.
I'm wondering if this is a bug in IOS 5 since I do not remember it happening when I was running IOS 4.

If you search this forum - you will find that of all of the issues reported with this update - Safari crashes rank up there at the top. I find this to me a major disappointment. Safari was crashing on me in 5.0 and this update to 5.0.1 did nothing to help.
You can try restoring your iPad to factory settings - clearing Safari, Turning off iCloud, don't sync bookmarks -all of the stuff that has been suggested - and see if it does you any good. It has done nothing for me.
Frankly - if you have to tear apart your iPad after an update - to solve an issue with one of the preinstalled apps - one that you would think should not be affected at all - an app that worked flawlessy until the updates - that sure sounds like some kind of problem on the Apple end to me.
All we can do is continue to send feedback.

  • Safari quits suddenly

I was enjoying my Mac for without crashes for a while. But recently, my Safari would just quit suddenly or unexpectedly. All the tabs and windows will be closed. Should I open safari, the tabs opened on the last window will still be there though.
Anyone knows what is the issue here and how to resolve it? Will greatly appreciate it.

I am having the exact same problem.  Very frustrating to have the browser close randomly.  I have a new machine, new loads, running Parallels with Windows 7 (maybe that is the problem?).

  • On my iPad Air Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow.

On my iPad Air , Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow on an internet site. Sometimes it doesn't crash but the slideshow is freezes. Any idea why?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Can't play a podcast in Safari on iPad or iPhone

I have always been able to play podcasts from my website on my iPad and iPhone but this week I get the play icon with a circle/slash through it.  The podcast plays in iTunes and in Safari on my Macbook pro and in the app associated with my organization.  Why won't it play in Safari al of a sudden?  Here is the link to the podcast: http://shulamite.com/listen/living-stones/
Can someone advise me on what I could have done to get this error.  I build the podcasts in Garageband and share them into iTunes and upload them from my site admin.
    Thank you!

    Johnster .....
I am getting the same icon that you are getting whether I use mobile Safari or iCab Mobile identified as Firefox or even if I identity it as mobile Safari. I wonder if that means perhaps the podcasts was not created correctly. However, I know absolutely nothing about creating a podcast.
You obviously have been doing this successfully up until this point, but by virtue of the fact that I am getting the "No Plugin" icon in both browsers - whether viewing as a desktop browser or a mobile browser, I simply assume that there is a problem with the podcast.
The podcast plays fine in my desktop Safari on my MacBook.
Just so that you know, the preinstalled apps are only updated when the iOS is updated. There are never updates released for Safari, iTunes, the App Store and so on, except for the features that may be added when the iOS is updated.

My ipad has suddenly stopped connecting to the intenet via my home wifi system. The settings have notbeen changed. why is this?

The first thing to try is to power down your modem and router for about 30 seconds, then repowering by plugging them back in.
Also, if that doesn't work, on your iPad you can try going into settings/safari/clear history/clear data and cookies.

    1. If Safari is open, quit Safari.
              - Double-click your Home button. Your open applications will appear in a row at the bottom of your screen.
              - Find the Safari icon. Touch and hold down the icon until the icons of your open applications start shaking.
              - Tap the red circle in the upper-left corner of the Safari icon. The icon will disappear from the list.
              - Press the Home button again to return to normal operations.
    2. Tap Settings, and then tap iCloud.
    3. Tap Safari to turn it off. Tap either Keep or "Delete from My iPhone" when asked if you want to delete synced data.
    4. Press the Home button to exit Settings, and wait about one minute.
    5. Tap Settings, and then tap iCloud.
    6. Tap Safari to turn it on.
    7. Press the Home button.
    8. Open Safari, and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
    - Turn off, and then restart your iPhone. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
    Thanks,

There is no 5 device limit.
There is a 5 computer limit for authorization.  This has noting to do with ipod/iphone/ipad/Applet tv.
If you have reached the limit of 5 computers then deauthorize all, then authorize the active computers.

  • Does anyone know how to do a text search in the new Safari for iPad iOS 7?

Does anyone know how to do a text search in the new Safari for iPad iOS 7?

The feature has been removed to make safari even less useable. You need to download a third party browser like atomic web browser to get the functionality you want back.
Like many new IOS 7 "features", safari on the ipad is a FAIL.
At least you can now bury safari in a folder containing hundreds of icons that you can only view 9 at a time.
