Safari on my iMac doesn't remember who I am

hi,
Whenever I tick "rememeber me" or "stay logged in" and revist the page, my log in credentials have been lost - at best the site will have my username/email but not my password - yet my macbook pro does store and use the relevant info - where and how in settings do I chnage this on my imac?
Thanks

  • Safari 2.0.3 doesn't "remember" My Yahoo login, more

For the last few days, even though I have "remember me" checked in my "My Yahoo!" home page, every time I exit Safari and reopen it, i get the My Yahoo sign up page. Same goes for Amazon 1-click, Google preferences, VersionTracker's log in, etc.
I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with an Apple technician, and we deleted cache's plist files, reset Safari - all to no avail.
Today I created a new user, and set up My Yahoo to be remembered as my home page, quit, then reopened. Took me to the log-in page again!
Is this a 2.0.3 problem? I'd hate to have to do another archive and install.
Also, Safari freezes quite a bit since the update. I guess I'll have to use Firefox for now until there's a fix.

This just now happened to me as well.
Ever since downloadig the Safari update, it's been crashing like crazy, and today was the first time Yahoo didn't "remember me"!
Something is definitely screwy with this update, as Safari is crashing constantly, and Mac Mail is as well....

  • My iMac doesn't remember my wireless network

A couple of months ago I bought a new wireless router and ever since then when I turn on my Mac, it's only about 1 time in every 4 that it automatically reconnects to my wireless network; most of the time I have to click on the top menu bar, select 'other' from the wireless menu, type in the network name and key in the password. It is probably worth noting that there usually is an entry with the right network name, but the encryption method is wrong if I select it, so I have to use 'other'.
Prior to getting this new router, the Mac used to automatically connect every time. Any ideas how to make it do so again? Thanks.

    Hi,
Your best bet is to try System Preferences > Network > Airport and check the options in there...
Also there's a thread on another forum about this...

  • Safari Doesn't Remember Tabs

Noticed a strange behaviour in Safari 6 on Mountain Lion.
When I close the window by clicking the red x in the top left and then re-open, Safari comes up with a blank pages, it doesn't remember any of the tabs I had open.
If however I close it by clicking quit on the Safari dock icon and then re-open, Safari opens back up with all my tabs from the last session.
This doesn't seem right, any advice?

When you quit Safari, (Mountain) Lion's Resume feature will remember what pages you had open and reopen them the next time you start Safari, because that's what the feature is supposed to do.
But when you close Safari's window—not by quitting, but by clicking the red button—(Mountain) Lion assumes that you don't want to see all those window's tabs again. (That's why you closed the window.) So it doesn't restore them when you open a new window.
You should get into the habit of quitting Safari when you want to stop using it, but might want to resume where you left off later. Really, the same goes for all other Apple apps. Closing a window tells the app and the OS, "I don't want this file/page/whatever to be open anymore." On the other hand, quitting the app tells the OS, "I don't want to use this app right now, but I might use it again later, and please reopen the same files/pages/whatever the next time."
By the way, the easiest way to quit an app is to press ⌘Q.

I bought a used ipad on ebay and the icloud acct is still linked to the old owner who doesn't remember the acct information. How can I set up my apple id on the iPad?

You will need the previous owner's Apple ID and Password to:
    1. Turn off Find My iPhone
    2. Erase device
    3. Reactivate device

  • Imac clock needs to be set and bluetooth doesn't remember ethernet connection

My Imac is less than 2 years old.  Upon startup, I am getting the error message "You computer's clock is set to a date before Jan 1, 2008.  This may cause some applications to behave erratically."  It also doesn't remember which ethernet connection it had last in the bluetooth menu.  I have to choose it everytime.  What's wrong with my mac?  Is it the battery?  If so, why is this happening now when I've only owned the machine (purchased brand new) less than 2 years?  Could it be something else?

I HAD this problem with my Power Mac G5. The "before date" was different and my date and time were correct in the menu bar! The message appeared on December 16, 2011 and on January 16, 2012. Then on January 21 I pressed the button to turn the g5 on. The light came on then went out. SILENCE.  I tried again but NOTHING. I didn't do the SMU thing as I assumed it was the power supply which I had allready replaced once (in about 2007). I hope it wasn't just a battery, because I had the hard drive put in a cradle and am about to gut the G5 so I can use that beautiful case for something else! Did you ever figure it out?

  • HT3910 Hi, I'm trying to create a new account because I have bought an iMac second hand and the previous user doesn't remember his admin account password. Would someone advise me on what command prompts I need to write in order to create a new account. Th

    Hi,
Just wondering how I can create a new account and password?
I've bought a second hand iMac from a dealer who hasn't fully erased the previous owner's user name and password. Therefore , I can't update or install any new password or update to Mountain Lion...
There is also no installation disc, so I don't seem to be able to reset the password that way.
I've just gone into the dos text :/root and wondered what I can do to create a new account and password without having to reinstall Snow Leopard?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Steve

Follow the steps in this article. Be sure to enter the commands exactly as written, paying attention to case and spaces, or lack thereof.

Hey guys I got a used iBook from a family friend that has it password protected.I can't update or delete programs or download anything without the passwords and he doesn't remember them.Is there any way for me to get around these without wiping the computer and starting from scratch?

    Hello,
Sadly without the system disk you can't do a lot. I would suggest you enable root user, log in as root and reset your administrators password, however you can't without knowing the administrator password first.
The only solution would be is to obtain the correct system disk or buy a retail copy of Mac OS X. But note, it depends on what version of the iBook you own depends, on what version of Mac OS X you will require.
You can still obtain the system disk or retail disks from online vendors, but they come at a cost.
System disk are grey in color, while retail disk have a big 'X' on it.
    Best of luck

  • IMac doesn't recognize input devices after going to asleep, must reboot

Quite often, my iMac doesn't respond when I attempt to "wake" it using keyboard or mouse. The only way to wake the iMac is to tap the power button. However, when it wakes the mouse cursor is a spinning color wheel and the system does not recognize any input from the keyboard or mouse. I can leave it sitting for quite some time and it still will not recognize my input devices. When this happens I must hold the power button to reboot.
This has been happening for a quite a while now, and it is highly annoying. I can't remember if this was happening before my screen was replaced by Apple a few months ago. It definitely did not happen before upgrading to Lion.
I am hoping you guys can help, otherwise I suppose I will be calling Apple and see if they can figure it out. I am tired of this!
    Thanks,
    Robyn

I'm having a similar issue. I put my screen to sleep before I go to bed, next day, the computer is frozen, but still on since I can detect heat from the top vent.
I've checked memory for any errors (5 hours of testing) and removed any system extensions. Still gets frozen.
I did attach an old USB mouse just to wake it up when it loses connection to the wirless bluetooth devices. I've been able to wake it up from this condition a few times.
I will keep investigating. My iMac is 1 month old, 27" i5 quad core.

  • 10.4.6 - dot mac pref pane doesn't remember password

With the recent update on my G4 alBook to 10.4.6 from 10.4.5 (using combo updater and due precautions, including doing a sync before updating as Apple recommends) The dot mac/sync pane of System Preferences is acting weird: it doesn't remember my dot mac password. Every time I write it in, it connects and checks and says it is verified and I have so many days left in my dot mac subscription. If I then go to the sync tab and try to sync- it hangs with the Beachball of Death. If I just write in the password in the dot mac pane and quit System Preferences after it has been verified, next time I open the pref pane I am back where I started - an invitation to join dot mac, my user name filled in but not the password. So obviously I can't sync my stuff with dot mac on the Powerbook, though I can on the G4 Dual MDD running OSX 10.4.5.
Anybody else seeing this behavior? I'd be grateful for suggestions. I have repaired permissions and checked the disk which is OK and I reset the PRAM at startup with the 4 finger exercise. I could trash some preferences...but which?

    Nina,
Are you familiar with the concept and the troubleshooting procedures which are associated with the removal/replacement of plist files? .plist files, contain instructions for recording and executing tasks associated with the the application or function that owns them. They can and do become corrupted. If you look in the ~Library/Preferences Folder you can usually guess what application or function the .plist serves by analyzing the file name.
Proper identification of the appropriate .plist is not always so obvious, but for example com.apple.Safari.plist is the preference file for Safari. When an application malfunctions, removing the associated .plist file from the preferences folder to the Desktop is often the best first troubleshooting step. If you have a problem with an application, Quit the application, find the associated plist file in the Preferences Folder, and move it to the Desktop as a first step in your troubleshooting procedure. Then log out/in or restart and re-evaluate the performance of the application.
A new default .plist file is automatically created in your Preferences Folder after you remove the recalcitrant .plist and initiate the log out/in restart sequence. You can expect default application behavior and you will have to reset some preferences. If the application or function returns to normal after removing the .plist file, it will prove that the original file was corrupt, and you can now safely trash the .plist file which you placed on the Desktop. If the application or function is unsatisfactory, the original copy of the plist file which was placed on the Desktop can be safely returned to the preferences folder.
If you are having problems with any aspect of OS X, experiment with deleting the appropriate .plist file. Plist corruption is common and .plist file deletion often cures many problems. Too many users try intricate solutions first and end up complicating their problem. If you are familiar with the concept and understand the consequences, I would recommend that you explore removal/replacement of the com.apple.DotMacSync.plist.
Another troubleshooting procedure you may want to explore is Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption, by Dr. Smoke.

  • Just switched from safari on my imac. when using search menu safari gave me the option to "find on this page," which was an incredible help while doing research. Is there any way to have this feature using firefox?

Just switched from safari on my imac. When using search menu in safari I had the option to "find on this page," which was an incredible help while doing research and looking for specific phrases/words. Is there any way to have this feature using firefox?

I think Safari has the same keyboard shortcut as Firefox "command+F" on a Mac or "Ctrl+F" on Windows.
Look in the lower left corner for the Find. There are more likely to be differences in Find Next and Find Previous in the keyboard shortcuts, but continuing at the Find bar at the bottom doesn't matter what browser you use. There is an "X" there to dismiss the Find bar. In Windows the "Esc" key will dismiss the bar if you are within the find text entry area.
    Keyboard shortcuts:
    * [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard%20shortcuts?s=keyboard&r=0&as=s Keyboard shortcuts | How to | Firefox Help], from Mozilla very limited number of shortcuts but will show correctly for your system
    * [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/keyboard.htm Firefox and other Browser Keyboard Shortcuts (Comparison Table)], more comprehensive but is oriented to Windows users with some guidelines for Mac and Linux users.

  • When in safari on my ipad I get the home screen of safari from my iMac

When in safari on my ipad I get the home screen of safari from my iMac this has only just start to happen can anyone tell why, and how do I prevent it.
    Thanks

Safari on the iPad doesn't have a homescreen setting, unless you cleared it's history and cache via Settings > Safari it will re-open the last set of tabs that you had open in it, or if you created a homescreen shortcut for a particular page then tapping on that will always open it on that page

  • Safari show all tabs doesn't work all the time

It is annoying: safari show all tabs doesn't work all the time. The little icon to the right of the "New Tab" area sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. The Shift Command Back-slash, sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. I find no rhyme nor reason for this. I have a MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion, the latest updates. It doesn't matter if I am in Full Screen or not.
I am quite confused regarding this.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type of copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, empty the cache more often from your keyboard.
    Command + Option + E

  • My apple tv is registering on my tv - i can see it on my system info screen but the apple tv doesn't show up, as well my imac doesn't seem to let me share - so i don't know whats wrong, why my apple tv isn't working

anybody able to help me with my setup for apple tv.  i've followed the directions in the guide and my tv doesn't seem to register in part.  it's weird because my tv system info identifies the apple tv but the screen never went black and it doesn't show anything, too, my imac doesn't seem to register the apple tv unit either

I would try connecting it to another tv to see if it works there if it does
then likely your tv can't handle the default resolution and you should lower it on the other tv
if not then you should connect it by usb to the computer and use itunes to restore it's firmware
