Safari on Windows - Launching PDF on click hyperlink

I have installed Safari 3.1.2 on Windows 2000 OS. When i am launching a PDF on click of one hyperlink , it is launching in a new window in stead of same window. Also it is showing the Download window. Is there is any way to launch the PDF in same window?. Also i would like to suppress download window which is opening automatically while launching the PDF.
When i am opening the PDF , it is showing a confirmation box to open or save the PDF. I would like to open the PDF with out showing the dialog box.
Is any body can help me?

You can middle-click the link to open it in a new tab.
The "Save" feature is that way for security reasons.

  • How to make Safari browser always open a new web page in a new Safari browser window which was clicked from a PDF document URL

    Hi
I have a web application which would enable users to see a list of PDF document on the web page and when the user select the PDF document, it will be open by a adobe PDF view
Within the content of the PDF document, it will contact URL links to some other portal web pages which we would like these other web pages to be open in a new browser window, but our testing shows that the new web pages may not always open in a new browser window.
Could you help to advise how I can enforce that new web pages that are clicked from the PDF document can always be open in a new Safari browser window ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

    Thank you.

  • When a linked .pdf is clicked, it downloads rather than following the link and opening in another safari window.

When a linked .pdf is clicked, it downloads rather than following the link and opening in another safari window.

Thanks for the tip, but I had already tried this and it did not help. The File still downloads and , at the same time, a new Safari window opens - but the Safari window is blank.
Another discussion thread related to this problem is:
How do I prevent automatic downloading of .pdf files?
but this deals  with Safari 5.1 which evidently has a problem with Adobe Reader.
I am using Safari 5.0, so the suggested solutions do not apply. ( I tried them anyway, but they did not work.)

  • Safari for windows cannot open PDF files

I'm posting this topic because it was archived in 2009 without a solution.
When clicking a pdf link in Safari for windows (4.0.3) it opens a new window but does not show the pdf. The window remains blank with "canceled opening page" in the status bar.
For me this hangup was caused by the environment variables TEMP and TMP being set to an inaccessible location.
Basically, to open a pdf file Safari needs to safe it to a temporary location. Then Adobe reader can open it from that location. The location is set in the environment variables TEMP and TMP. For me they were set to "D:\Temp", however D was a CD drive hence the file could not be saved let alone opened.
Solution: Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced tab>Environment Variables then check/change the user variables TEMP and TMP to something you are sure is accessible like "C:\Temp".
If this solution works for you please write up a response. Good luck.

There needs to be a way in Safari (or in Acrobat or Windows) to say "if you download a PDF file from Safari, launch Acrobat and open that file."
I'm not on a Windows machine to check at the moment, but in the Mac version you can set in the Safari preferences an option to 'Open safe files after downloading'. I wouldn't be surprised if this were missing from the Windows version though due to the additional security implications this could have on Windows. There is no ability to configure different files types to be opened by specific applications from within Safari, unlike Firefox for example.
You can however open files simply by double clicking the icon in the Downloads window that Safari pops up when a download occurs.
... how I tell Apple there needs to be an option to allow Safari to push streamed or downloaded file types to their correct creator application?
On a Mac, Safari menu -> Report Bugs to Apple...
On a Windows PC, Safari Help Menu -> Report Bugs to Apple... (I think)

  • Clicking hyperlink in email opens two browser windows

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 with Mail.app 4.3 and while in Mail.app, if I click on an email message that has a hyperlink, the default browser is launched but it displays two windows. One with the hyperlinked page and the other with the default home page. This only happens if the default browser is not already launched. If the default browser is already running, then only the hyperlinked page is displayed. Safari does not exhibit this behavior but FireFox and Chrome do.
Is there a setting I can apply to have only the targeted page displayed if FF or Chrome is set as default when invoked from Mail.app?

That can be a problem with DDE.

  • Can't open pdf files in Safari for Windows

Hi, I haven't been able to open pdf files in Safari - each time I click on a pdf link, a new tab opend and then a pop-up window says "can't open Adobe" (or something like that), and then Safari crashes. I've read that the solution is to install Adobe Reader 8, but I can't because I already have Adobe Acrobat which doesn't seem to work with safari. Does anyone know a way to view pdf files in Safari for windows?

Try to uninstall and after that install Acrobat Reader 8 again.

  • Trouble with PDF files in Safari for Windows

I downloaded Safari for Windows at work on my XP machine because I much prefer the Safari interface. The problem that I am having is that one of the web-based programs that I use at work does reports in PDF format and when I click on the link for a report Safari is popping up a window that says the document doesn't exist. Of course, the document does exist and my Internet Explorer and Safari for Mac that I have at home both view these reports with no problems through Safari. I have the most up to date version of Adobe Reader 8, and when I check the installed plugins through the help menu on Safari it shows that the Adobe plugin is installed. So, I have no clue how to get this to work, but if I can't get it fixed soon I'm gonna have to switch back to Internet Explorer (which I don't want to do). Can anyone help???

Try to uninstall and after that install Acrobat Reader 8 again.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • How do I get safari to open a pdf in window.

How do I get safari to open a pdf in the browser window. A while ago I turned it off by typing  defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -boolean yes   into the terminal. Basically how do I undo that command

Then do a "get info" on it (Apple Key with the letter "i" key)
    Select the "Open With" Box
    Change it to "Preview"
Then select the box just beneath it
    "Change All."
This should set your PDF's to be read with Preview.

  • How do I view pdfs in Safari for Windows?

Have to use Windows 7 at work. Fortunately, I can at least use Safari as my browser. Unfortunately, I can't view pdfs in Safari for Windows but I can with FireFox and IE. Any way to resolve?

What happens when you try to view a pdf file on Safari? In my experience Safari has never worked well in Windows. Use a browser you know works.
Did you check for a PDF reader plugin for Safari?

  • How can I force a new window each time I click on Safari?

I am trying to set up a Mac for my parents with the same functionality as their old Windows box. In windows each time you click the IE icon it opens a new window. In Safari each time you click on the safari icon it just opens the current window you have open.
I know you can do a CTRL+N or use tabs but I am trying to set this computer up exactly as their old one. Does anyone know if there is a setting that will open up a new Safari window each time the icon is clicked in the Dock?

There is a way to do it, but it's not reliable due to the way that web sites create links on their pages. Some are coded with JavaScript, and that will override any behavior you might want.
It's not hard to just put your thumb on the Command key and click a link or a bookmark; it will produce the same result as the other way I mentioned, but without needing to download, install, and configure a third-party "hack". It also has the added benefit of having one finger always in position to Copy or Paste something.

  • Print as pdf in safari for windows

When I print an article from the web as a pdf file with safari for windows, the PC creates by default a non-text file that I have to convert into a text file in order to access/highlight etc. the text. Both with Safari for Mac and with IE I directly get a text pdf. What can I do to make Safari for Windows to do the same thing by default?
    Thanks for any help!

It sounds like you're confused. Windows has no built-in capability to create anything as a PDF file, so I don't see how you would get one unless you had Acrobat Pro installed.
If you want to be able to save web pages as PDF files, you need to install a PDF writer in your system, which would let you do that via any web browser. You can download a free PDF driver here: CIB PDF Brewer.

  • Safari main window not showing up in my user account when launched

Safari main window is not showing up when launched in my user account.
For some unknown reason, there must be a bug with Space and Safari as when I switch from Space 1 to Space 2 (and vice versa) I can see the Safari main window for less than 1 sec but could not fix it to show up and stay in the foreground in any of the 4 Spaces areas.
I have tried to desactivate Space or change some settings in Space but could not fix the issue.
Last but not least, Safari is working well for all other user accounts on my Mac.
I have updgraded my OS to 10.5.7 and Safari v4 last patch but I have the same issue for 1 month

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.safari.plist
/Users/YourName/Libary/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac. See if that helps...
