Safari (Only) Won't Connect to a Single Web Site
I'm having an odd problem with both Safari 4 and newly downloaded 5. Most every site works fine. One, and only one, site always generates an error "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.salon.com/” because the network connection was reset. This problem can occur if either the server or the network connection is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again." This has been going on for weeks.
The site works fine in Firefox. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi Eric,
Try repairing disk permissions...
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Standard Edition - Single Web Site/Application?
Hi,
I hope I am posting at the right section of the forum...
I'm considering using Coldfusion for our company intranet.
However, reading the difference editions availabe, I notice that
the standard edition is only allowed for "a single web site/single
application."
So what is Adobe's definition of "an application?" If our
"application" provides many functions to different departments of
the company, does it count as one application or multiple
applications?
Thanks in advance for any answers, comments or suggestions.

There as always been some confusion one the term
'Application'. When
talking ColdFusion editions, it is ColdFusion itself that is
the
application. With Standard you can have one ColdFusion
application
installed on a given box up to 2 cpu's per license. With
Enterprise you
can have as many ColdFusion applications as you feel
comfortable loading
onto a given box, again up to 2 cpu's per license.
Each of these ColdFusion applications whether Standard or
Enterprise can
have as many web sites as you care to load it down with
connected to it. -

Silverlight 5 WebBrowser Control - Is the SL5 WebBrowser control is set to work in IE7 mode only? I have a 3rd party web site I'm hosting and now they will not work with IE 7 Compatibility mode. Looks like this control can't detect I'm setup for IE 9. I'm
running IE 11 with registry hack for IE 9. I think the SL5 webbrowser control is set to work only in IE 7. can some one verify this or tell me how to set the WebBrowser control up to run either IE8, 9, 10 or 11? I have same issue with machines running IE 8
and above. This Silverlight 5 application is running out of browser with the elevated privileges (hack) and at test certificates install in proper stores. This application has been running for 2.5 years. Vender switch on some changes a couple days ago that
broke this application. Help!!Hi,
It seems there is nothing to do with IE mode.
Please make sure your link still can be accessed.
The WebBrowser displays HTML content in applications running in a Silverlight 4 or later out-of-browser applications or in Silverlight 5 in-browser trusted applications only.

Cannot connect to target eHR web site
I cannot connect to eHR target web site. from my home computer which is running windows 7.
I get this error message from Chrome
"Not Found The requested URL /SecurityBrokerage/forms/login.asp was not found on this server."
This error from IE 10 gives me
"The webpage cannot be found HTTP 404"
I get the same error from my laptop that has windows xp IE 8.
the eHR web site is assessed from this page.
target.com/spot/team-services#?lnk=fnav_t_spc_1_13
At work (windows xp IE 8 ) I was able to access the website so I think it is a Verizon problemWorks for me on Windows 7 and Firefox.
My guess is that the OP has received an IP address that is defined in a Bogon filter somewhere that identifies that address as a "bad" site. If that is the problem it should be easy to fix, just turn off the router before going to bed and turn it on the next morning, it is very likely that a new IP address with be assigned, and the problem will disappear. It might be a good idea to record the current IP address and then check the new one to make sure it has actually changed.

when ever i put in an address or click on a site a "Set Web Site Rule" window pops up asking if i want Firefox exe to allow some function to occur. it does not seem to be security related but rather simple functions. Step 1, step 2 , blah blah . "Set Web Site Rule" window is annoying. how do i shut off this function it popped up more than a dozen times to connect to even this web site? then i had to click it another dozen plus times to get the next mozilla site open !!!! ??? if firefox does not know what it is doing how can i??????
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== i am just setting up this pc how ever i down loaded the most recent version 3.6.3by submiter - self solved: (thanks for the psychic help)
seems the problem was not with Firefox itself. Rather it seemed to have been an ad-blocker program called "WebMonitor" . i began by deleting Firefox and then opened Explorer (which i seldom do) and the same thing began to happen with MSN. So i
began deleting anti-virus programs till i came to the above mentioned freeware ad blocker "WebMonitor". it is a shame because i uised to have a program that blocked all ads on a web site which was such a relief to me. -
Safari won't display graphics for some web sites
There are some sites that Safari won't display all of the graphics. For instance, nissanusa.com opens to a blank page with a little "feedback" symbol in the lower right corner. Similarly, the infiniti.com page has some text but no graphics. Both pages open fine on Firefox. There are other pages, but I prefer not to have to switch back and forth between browsers. Am I missing a plug-in that I don't know about?
PhilSorry, Guys. Somehow I screwed up when I installed the new Safari with Leopard. I don't remember accessing the preferences for Safari and thought they remained the same as for Safari 2. However, upon checking, I discovered the "enable plug-ins" box unchecked. Checking it solved all of the web site problems.
Peter, Thanks for your response. For informational purposes, on Safari 3, the "enable Flash" button is no longer hidden in the Mime settings tab. Now it's on right on the advanced page of the Quicktime preferences.
Again, sorry for my screw up and thanks for your help!

Safari (and FF) crashes constanly when visiting specific web sites
Hi guys,
as of couple of hours ago I'm having huge problems with almost any sort of web browsing I am trying to do. But let's start this story at the start...
Few days ago I finally got a chance to get to my external hard drive and make a backup of my data so that I could upgrade to 10.5.6. After doing the backup I upgraded and I thought that there were no problems.
But then first problems started to appear with Firefox which I occasionally use (primary browser safari) - all of a sudden it started crashing, as far as my initial debugging went that was usually (but not exclusively) when visiting sites with https connection - first problem I actually noticed on mozzillas own add-on page and for a couple of days thought that maybe it is Firefoxs problem since everything else seemed to work just fine.
Now this morning my safari crashes - I wasn't shocked as I had about 40 windows opened and about 200 tabs in those windows so although it worked just fine before that I wasn't particularly worried and tried (with no luck, bummer) restoring the session. Soon I realized that crashes are so frequent and severe that browser became unusable - I couldn't restore a session, on a particular page it crashes immediately after I start to scroll, but if I browse onto subsections of the page I may use the web site without problems for some time.
Anyway, after googling and thinking that maybe I have problems because of an update and some kind of strange incompatibility between one of the plugins and safari I removed everything from /Library/Internet Plugins and /Library/InputManagers but that still didn't resolve the problem so although I stared at the output that safari gives at crahes for some time I have no idea what is causing this problem.
Already tried verifying disk (everything seems ok), but I can't run any hardware tests (personally I am suspecting RAM, although games run with no problems and only FF and safari crashed) until tomorrow since I don't have my install DVD with me. If anyone can give a suggestion before then I would deeply appreciate it.
Maybe also relevent but no idea how - when I press report after crash my mac makes the same sound as if I would just wake it up from sleep. Go figure why. :>
As said, any help deeply appreciated.

Looking back at your crashed thread, there are a whole bunch of ATS and font references.
Did you by any chance load on a bunch of fonts, or delete any lately?
Maybe you installed Word or some other app that comes with a lot of fonts?
Yep, installing some fonts which were already installed was the cause of the issue. After removing them the problem seems to go away.

Hi Neo~~,
As ~Bee says it's as much about hanging around here getting a feel for things and learning from others that help us diagnose the crash reports. In a former life I was a software developer (not Apple stuff) so that helps give me ideas what might be going on.
There is [this article|http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html] over at Apple's Developer area that is a bit of a dry read but it gives you some idea what all the different parts of the crash report mean.
Thanks for the article, it may prove useful. Personally I'm more into web dev and only recently started to look into desktop software so those thread warning did look a bit scary at the start. Will try to work on that. :> -
Safari shuts down when try to open a web site
I have a wifi only iPad which seems to have lost its' ability to access the internet. Whenever I open Safari and try to access a web site it closes without any messages. The same thing happens if I try to access the App Store. None of my apps can access the internet.
I have done all of the obvious things:
Tried turning it on and off (alone and after each of the below steps)
Clearing Safaris' history, cookies and cache
I am connected to my network and have no issues using my wireless network to connect to the internet from my Mac
The signal is fine - the iPad is currently 30cm from the router
Reset the network settings
I am hoping someone has a solution to save me from a trip to my (not so local) Apple store.I'm have the exact same issues, every app that acceses the internet closes in a flash! Open Safari? BAM it's gone. Open Mail? BAM it's gone. It started yesterday and since then I've tried everything, wifi off, power off and on, hard reset, restore a back-up from iTunes, nothing to that point. Then I noticed the update from 4.3.3 to 4.3.4, I had high hopes that it would fix the problem, but sadly not. My iPad is practicaly unusable right now.
To be more specific, it happens on my iPad 1 WiFi 16GB running 4.3.2/4.3.3/4.3.4 with 6GB of free storagespace and no apps loaded in the background or with strange exotic plug-ins installed.
This is not a minor glitch, it disables me from using it.
Please help us solve this problem, all I got from several expert forums is.. Memory problem, bla bla. -
Wifi connected but cant open web sites
I use my Ipad for email and surfing whilst traveling at air ports and hotesl.
Now some wifi sites ok but others sites I get connected but cant open web pages
WHY any ideas to fix problemIf you gave some examples of which locations caused problems and details on what happened it would help to give advice. There are many different types of "free" WiFi at these sorts of places. The mechanisms used to allow you to access the wifi are varied, i.e., agreement web pages, credentials, userid/password, etc.
In some cases, the Safari Autofill feature has interfered with the sign on mechanism used. If this is the case this feature can be turned Off by going to Settings > Safari > Autofill and turning it Off. -

The graphic is partially shown. You can see only text and you can't orient yourself.
It's interesting that I can open all these web sites with Internet Explorer without any problems!!!

Safari Pinch and Zoom not working on one web site
Now I thought the zoom in/out feature just worked when ever you wanted on Safari. Well I heard about the iPhone-version of the MacTech web site, so I went to check it out. Well now I can't zoom in/out on that site. It's totally ignoring me, so I opened another Safari window and went to a different site; low and behold the zoom works fine. So I go back to MacTech, and still the zoom doesn't work. So what gives?
This really s* since if I've viewing the MacTech website while holding my iPhone vertically I can't shrink the page down to see everything and I'm forced to scroll side to side.
I really hope that Apple hasn't provided web sites a way of blocking our zooming, as it is a fantastic feature.
Oh, the web site is:
www.mactech.com/commapplenewsforiphone.php
in case anyone else wants to try it out. They've set:
meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=2.3, user-scalable=no"
It's the user-scalable that's the problem. Apple considers the default (per their web coding rules at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/designingcontent.html to be yes.
I've noticed the same thing.
