Safari opens 2 tabs on open...

I am using Safari 5.0.2 and when I launch the app, it opens a new window with 2 tabs, the first one blank, and the second one, the login page for eBay. Every time. My settings are to open new windows and tabs with "Empty Page." So I'm at a loss for where this is coming from.
I do not have any extensions running that do any sort of restore feature.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi
do you have any extensions, and if so, have you disabled them all?
If none, quit safari & move its preference file: Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist to the desktop & test again.

  • I can't seem to open a new tab with the keyboard shortcut or the plus sign thing next to an already open tab to open another one. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

This didn't happen until yesterday night after I updated to Firefox 3.6. So now I have to resort to right clicking then choosing to open a new tab from there.

That can a problem with the Ask<i></i>.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)

  • On the tab bar, clicking on a button with a "+" to the right of my open tabs would open a new tab. Now, in version 3.6.13, that no longer works

How can I enable this function again?

  • Safari 4.1.1 opens but won't open a window or a tab

Safari 4.1.1 opens quickly without a window. When you try to open a window nothing happens. When you try to open a tab, the tab briefly opens and then Safari crashes. Tried reinstalling Safari to no avail. Firefox operates with no problems, but I want to afp files and I need Safari. I used Disk Utility to check permissions but no problems found. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

You may want to upgrade to 4.1.2 [Here|http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15675/apple-safari].

  • Safari warning before quitting when multiple tabs are open?

I'm a rather clumsy typist who often uses Apple+Tab to toggle through my open programs. This works great 99% of the time, but that other 1% is rather frustrating considering that the Q key is right next to Tab.
Apple guys, please implement a pop up/drop down warning when attempting to quit Safari when multiple tabs are open (or at least the option to enable or disable it). I use this browser for work and often have many tabs open, so accidentally quitting the browser only impedes on my workday. I know I should be more accurate, but isn't that what part of progress is? The empowerment of laziness? =)
Thanks for your time, and hopefully we see this included in soon-to-come upgrades!
Oh, and if this feature is already available, feel free to show me the way.

    jefftovar,
I created and modified the Safari Keyboard Shortcut
Quit (⌘+Q) command to (⌘ControlQ) by using System
    Preferences...>Keyboard Shortcuts.
    ;~)
Great suggestion! But, the default Quit (⌘+Q) command is still in effect. I've looked about in trying to deactivate it, but can't seem to find it. How did you get rid of yours?

  • Safari wont let me open links in new tabs anymore? Please help!?

On my Macbook, I'm using Safari as my browser.
Everything was fine until this morning; suddenly Safari will not give me the option of opening links from one page in another tab in the same window.
For example, if I'm browsing on EBay and want to open a search result in a new tab of the same window, usually when I would right click on my track pad or magic mouse, it would say "Open link in new tab" or "Open link in new window". However, now when I right click, it just says, "Open link" "Open link in new window" and "Copy link".
I haven't changed any settings or anything on my Macbook whatsoever in the last 3 hours (at least that I'm aware of). Can anyone please tell me how to get this back to normal?
Also, it seems that when I right click anywhere on a page, I only see the options "back" and "reload" whereas before there was "view source" etc.
    Please help!

    Hi,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64*. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
If Safari still won't let you open links in new tabs, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
If your forum profile is correct (10.6.1) go to the Apple Menu/Software Updates ...
Very important to keep your system software up to date.
If you install the 10.6.3 update make sure and repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • How do I block Roblox tab from opening In Safari 7.0.4?

Since last night, http://www.roblox.com has been popping up in a new tab in Safari. I can't find anyway to block it. It's a tab -- not a new window. I can't get in touch with their support unless I sign up for the game. Which I'm not going to do.
It's really annoying. And it won't stop. (I have reset Safari.)
And now since I've been trying to post this, Mackeeper tabs keep opening. What's going on?????
TIA for any help you can give me.
    OS X -- v. 10.9.3 -- iMac Intel Processor (20-inch, Early 2008)

    Force Quit Safari.
Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select the Safari if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.   Wait.
    Safari will quit.
Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

  • How can I find what time a tab was opened in Safari?

How can I find out what time a tab was opened in Safari?

As of Safari 5.1.7 there does not appear to be a way to view the time in the browser, but it is still possbile to find from the raw history file. Open /Users/[yourusername]/library/Safari/History.plist in a text editor. Depending on how your text editor reads the file, you may see a lot of garbled text, but you should still be able to find the URL that you want the time for. After the URL you may see the page's title, but should also see a left square bracket followed by numbers.
    Example:
    _?http://www.apple.com/_Apple[377832904.6o
The integer is an Apple timestamp (number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 2001). Find a timestamp calculator online to get the actual time for your timestamp. In the example above, Apple was visited on Dec 21 2012 at 17:35:04 PST.
    Cheers.

  • IOS 8 - How to Close All Open Tabs in Safari?

ioS 8 - Is there a way to close all open tabs in Safari on the iPhone?  The workaround in iOS 7 was to hit the "Private" button and then click "Close All Tabs," but that no longer works with the revised private browsing method.  Clicking each tab to close multiple tabs is burdensome if there are a lot open.

Yes, this is VERY painful after a few days of using Safari: Having to close one window at a time. Ugh.

  • Printing All Opened Tabs in Safari

Is there a way to print all opened tabs in safari

    HI,
    choppy/freezing video
Try uninstalling your current copy of Flash, then reinstall new, then repair permissions.
    Uninstall Flash
Install the most recent version of Flash here.
    Now repair permissions.
Empty the Safari cache from the Safari Menu Bar too.
If reinstalling Flash and emptying the cache didn't help, you may have Safari third party add-ons installed that were compatible with a previous version of Safari, but not Safari 5.
Go here for troubleshooting Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
You could also try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari functions as it should, them move the .plist file to the Trash.

  • Why is every time I open something in safari it will always opening a new tab?

Why is every time I open something in safari it will always opening a new tab?

Ordinarily a link will open in the same tab, however, the website can specify that a new tab is to be created.
Of course, you can specify that you want a new tab if you press and hold on the link and select open a new tab.

  • Safari 5.0.3, open link in new tab problem

    I have a Mac 10.6.5.
When I open safari it works fine, then if I right click on a link I see the options open in a new tab, or window (and many other options), when I click open link in a new tab it works, then in the new tab I have a problem: If I right click on a link I can't see anymore the option "open in a new tab", all I can see is, open link, open link in a new window, download linked file and copy link, if I click on open link in a new window it opens a blank tab :s.
Also right click options are always limited in a new tab and, if I right click on a picture in the new tab I can't see the same options that are normally listed when I fist open a window.
How can I fix it, is someone else having this problem?
    .

    Hi and welcome......
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari if it's open (Command + Q)
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. Now launch Safari. If Tabs work as they should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • Safari 6 on Mac opens new tabs in iPhone user agent?

    Hello,
Just upgraded to Safari 6 on Mac OS X Lion and every new tab I open changes the user agent (under the develop menu) to Mozilla iPhone (Causing websites to display mobile versions)?
Can anybody explain why this happens and how I can fix it? Its really annoying having to change it back for every new tab or be forced to view sites for mobile!

I have this same problem as well, except it's not limited to when opening a new tab.
I have developer's mode enabled and have reset it back to Safari 6, but it keeps going to the Mozilla iPhone agent.
Have tried getting rid of all Safari settings that I can find, using the option to Reset Safari - to no avail.
Thanks for any ideas or help. As the previous poster said, it's annoying.

  • ICloud continues to show open tabs even after Safari quit

Since OS 10.10, when I close and quit Safari on my iMac or MBP iCloud occasionally continues to show an open tab on the other devices like the iPhone, even for several hours after Safari has been quit on the iMac. This is annoying in that one time I left it, and the iMac restarted because of a kernel panic.
This appears to be an iCloud and Yosemite problem. Furthermore, I have called Apple care twice about this, and they have been unable to find any problem with my computers.
Has anyone else had this problem, and what to do about it.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
