There are several options in your prefs. See these in order

  • Safari opens all thumbnails in Forums

I read several forums and when there are thumbnail attachments, instead of showing the thumbnails it opens the full image instead creating confusing images. See this link as am example

Yep, it does the same for me. OTOH, that's my preference.

  • Stopping Safari from auto-opening all old windows

I find Safari openning all of my windows from when I last shut down incredibly aggrivating. Not only to I not want it but it takes FOREVER to get its barings and even start to load all the pages. I don't understand why Lion has all of these incredibly un-useful features turned on by default with no clear way how to turn them off.
If any one knows how to stop this from happening I'd greatly appriciate it. I've done a search and not really found anything. Thanks!

3 or 4 things you can do.
    (1) Turn off this "resume" feature for all applications via the checkbox near the bottom of the System Preferences, General pane.
    (2) Close all windows by hand before you quit safari.
    (3) option-quit safari.
    (4) Launch Safari from the dock using shift-click.

  • How to open all of  your favourite sites inside a folder in Safari

Hi! I didn't see anybody asking something like this... I have a folder in Favorites menu, and I want to open that submenu and click over "Open all in tabs" (or however it is in english :$). I was trying before posting, but I can't access to folders in that menu. Any help?

I'm not sure to perfectly understand what you are asking for. Let's suppose first that your “Favorites” folder is in the “Bookmarks” menu. Then the following script should do the job:
    tell application "Safari" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
click menu item -1 of menu 1 of menu item "Favorites" of menu 1 of menu bar item "BookMarks" of menu bar 1
    end tell
On the other hand, if your “Favorites” folder is in the Bookmarks Bar, then the following script should do the job:
    tell application "Safari" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
click menu item -1 of menu 1 of menu item "Favorites" of menu 1 of menu item "Bookmarks bar" of menu 1 of menu bar item "BookMarks" of menu bar 1
    end tell
    Hope this might help.

  • Using multiple desktops with a 4 finger swipe on a Mac Book Pro running Lion- is there a way that I can allow Safari open on several but not all??  Looks like I can set it for one but not others.  All, one, or nothing

Using multiple desktops with a 4 finger swipe on a Mac Book Pro running Lion- is there a way that I can allow Safari open on several but not all??  Looks like I can set it for one but not others.  All, one, or nothing

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

    Hi...
    Open System Preferences > General
Deselect:  Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
    Restart your Mac.

Do you happen to have an old version of Glims installed. if so try this new version http://www.MacHangout.com/dwnlds/Glims1b34DEV.dmg.zip
It seems to have fixed the problem for me.

  • In Safari I can define what pages are loaded when I open a "New Window". How do I achieve the same in Firefox (and supress the current begavior of it opening all of the tabs that I defined as my home page all the time)?

I am returning to Firefox after having used Safari on Mac for the past year. One thing I liked about Safari was that I could define what page gets loaded when I used the File Menu command to open a new Browser Window. I defined this as opening up with my Bookmarks Menu where I then was able to select the page I wanted to go to.
I have not been able to find a way to define this in Firefox and was surprised to see that "New Window" in Firefox opens all of tabs that I've defined as my Home Page.
Is there a way to manage this?

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • How can I get Safari 5.1 to open without opening all the tabs that were open when i last quit safari?

When I lauch Safari (5.1 in 10.7) I want it to open to either an empty page or a designated homepage - but istead it opens all the tabs that were open when I quit Safari.  How do i stop this, I cant find any preference to achieve this and see nothing in help.  Any help?

Hi James - Thanks for the info!  This has been bugging me, too.  I'm going to uncheck the Restore Windows box.  Agree with you that it should be app specific, tho.  I like opening to the last page I was working on in pages and numbers.  Hope it doesn't change that!

  • No web page address bar when safari loads.     When safari opens, it goes to the apple page. All of the sudden, since last night there is no address bar or search bar on top. Just grey. Please helps,

After Safari opens, there is no address or search box on top (or bottom).  I can't type in a new web page.
    Please help me.
    Thank you for any help

Under VIEW, the "hide toolbar" is in bold, so I can not click "view toolbar"
I tried the customize option as well and that doesn't work either.
Thank you so much for trying to help me. I don't know what's wrong with Safari. I restarted the computer and did all updates. Really bummed :)

  • My safari isn't open all the winndow

my safari isn't open all the address

If you can't see the Address Bar click View from the Safari menu bar then click Customize Toolbar from the drop down menu.
If Safari isn't opening windows, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset. Try again.

  • Safari opens up all my saved pages...

When I start safari on my macbook air, safari opens up all of my pages that I have saved on top. Why does this keep happening? Anyone else who has the same problem as I do?
This problem is not something that all the suddenly popped up after updating my mac or anything. It's just something that happened over night a few months back. I talked with applecare on the phone, but they didn't seem to be able to fix this problem of mine. So now I'm hoping anyone here has a solution!

Open the Safari preferences window and select the General tab. From the menu labeled
              New windows open with:
    select
               Empty page

  • Is there a way to automaticaly open all previous tabs after safari restart?

because i allways have many tabs open, it is anoying to reopen them everytime when i open safari or when it crashes. opera has such a feature for example or seamonkey.
to "open all the windows of the last session" wont somehow do the job...

    Hi,
if i change browser, which one would you suggest? Cabino, Firefox (isnt this the older version of Seamonkey?) or Seamonkey?
    They are all related.
SeaMonkey is essentially the old Mozilla application under a new name - this includes Web-browser, e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client and HTML editor
Firefox was the offshoot of Mozilla that only provided the web-browser in an aim to keep things as slim and bloat-free as possible (up for debate these days )
Camino uses the same rendering engine (Gecko) as the other two, but does not support their plugin architecture and wraps itself up in a nice Mac-oriented interface.
All are good browsers. Most people prefer Firefox. I prefer Camino
There's no problems downloading all 3 and seeing which you prefer however.

I cannot open facebook in safari it is coming up with cannot connect to server. I can open all other websites though. I have reset cookies &amp; history and hard reset a number of times. I can open other websites no problems.
    Any help appreciated.

You cleared cookies and data in Settings>Safari? Did you close Safari as well before you reset the iPad? Double tap the home button and drag the Safari thumbnail up to the top of the screen to close it.
