Safari opens at login & startup.
Only on my main user's profile, but the user's startup items does not have the Safari checked to open. This has been happening for month's but as I rarely shut down the system I have allowed this to continue. I have emptied caches, reset Safari, tossed preferences, but cannot locate the culprit.
All of the software (including Safari) is up-to-date.
Any ideas anyone?
HI,
Open System Preferences / Accounts - Login Items.
You may need to click the gold padlock icon to make changes. You will be prompted for your admin password.
Click + to add Safari to launch on boot.
The admin can do this for any user account. Just click the user name on the left side under *My Account*.

Safari Open at Login is incorrectly minimized
Hi,
I'd like Safari to Open at Login (I have selected this option when right clicking the mouse and made the the "Open at Login" selection), but I DON'T want Safari to be minimized (under Accounts in System Preferences I made sure not to click the box corresponding to Safari for minimize). However, Safari still opens as minimized.
Not sure why Safari does in fact open at login, but remains minimized until I click on it in the menu bar. I'd like to Open at Login and have Safari in full screen.
Is there another setting I need to change?Noonan wrote:

To ascertain whether the problem belongs to the system or the user, create a new user account and select Safari to start at login and see what happens when you login to this new account.
If it works correctly with this new user account, then it is a corrupted .plist file in your original account. -
Apps will not open at login. what can i do?
hi,
i've set a few of my apps to open at login/startup. the problem is they never open, i have to open each of them manually. it is really frustrating. i've set my apps through System Preferences and the apps themselves. is there anything i can do to remedy this situation?
thank youBack up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the System Preferences application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application, recreate some of your login items, and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item you moved.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.
For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go. -
Safari opens by itself at login
Hi all, it's a few days that Safari started opening at login, before any other application, even before seeing the menubar. Furthermore, it's unresponsive so I have to force quit it.
I've tried deleting the safari prefs with no avail. Found this in the console log:

Anybody can help?
TIASame problem (again!). I thought everything was ok, when the problem reappeared. This time I'm pasting here the whole startup/login log. Sorry for the flood and thanks for your help.

Wife's G4...on startup, Safari opens for no apparent reason. Trashed Plist,
installed latest Safari update, checked Safari preferences and startup items
folder to no avail. Repaired permissions, ran disk utility which reported and
repaired a minor error. No change in the problem. On the backup clone disk
from two weeks ago, there is no problem.
Any ideas why this might be happening? I think I'd rather wait for a system update than try to re install just to solve a minor problem like this but I am
curious as to what could be causing it.
Thanks

complicated and exotic attempts to fix a very simple issue.

Safari doesn't open properly at startup
Hi everybody,
I've been browsing the forum a bit, but didn't find an answer to my question. Here it goes:
I have Safari added in my dock, and I marked it as 'open after login'. The same for Mail. When my mac has started up my Mail indeed opens, but Safari doesn't. To be more concrete, I see the 'topbar' opening but no actual screen opens. Mail however works perfectly.
Maybe this is a very small setting or such, but I can't seem to find it.
Could someone please help me with this one?
Thanks!
pyturI see the 'topbar' opening but no actual screen opens
Make sure Safari is in the list in System Preferences > Accounts - Login Items
If it's there and you are only seeing the "topbar" when Safari opens, could be a third party Safari add on that's preventing Safari from loading the GUI and pages.

Safari will not open a window when "open at login" is enabled
I seem to be having this issue where I can't seem to get a Safari window to open at login. I've tried many many settings from disabling the pop-up blocker to application permissions, it just doesn't want to open a window upon login. The icon in the dock has the indicator light that it is open, but no window appears.
I had no issues with this up until the past few updates that were done. I don't have any 3rd party plug-ins installed and it happens on both my Macbook Pro and Mac Mini and it is not profile specific.
Does anyone have any suggestions?Lisa --Welcome to Apple Discussions!

You're having symptoms of a common problem here.
Your problem may be with the Community Toolbar.
It's a terrible app/plugin that messes up Macs like the plague.
Did you ever install a customized toolbar? Like a Facebook one? Or for watching sports?
Here's how to search and destroy:
Close Safari.
Check here for CT Loader
Locate and delete:
HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
It may not be in every single location, but get it out where ever you find it.
Restart Safari. Any Better? -
ios7 bookmarking web application to home screen via Safari, crashes after login and when we try to open any link inside from the icon that gets created on the home screen. Can anyone please tell me if there is any scheduled fix for this bug in safari?
From what i understand i see that - Cookies are not transferred between your website and your webapp when installing the icon on the home screen (for authentication purposes for example). It was working until 6.1 and now it’s not working anymore.
Can someone please tell me if this bug will be fixed in any future release, if so the ticket number of some kind that i can track, or if there is a workaround for this issue?ios7 bookmarking web application to home screen via Safari, crashes after login and when we try to open any link inside from the icon that gets created on the home screen. There aren't really any more details to add. I have checked everything I can think of in the Library folder and thrown out anything I thought might affect it. Firefox is not set as my default browser.
I have read many threads of people having this problem both here and on the Apple Support site. Most seem to be solved by unchecking "Open at Login" in the Dock icon or removing Firefox from the Startup Items in the System Preferences. Neither applies here. HELP!!! I like Firefox and use it from time to time but it seems the only way to stop this behavior is to remove it from my computer, which I will do if a solution can't be found.
Thanks for your efforts.Yes. I checked all of the places I could think of and those mentioned in the threads I read. Login items is what I was referring to when I said, "removing Firefox from the Startup Items in the System Preferences".
This is a nefarious problem! -
Safari 5.1 -- 'Open at Login' not opening a browser window?
I have Safari set to open at login (right-click Safari in the Dock > Options > Open at Login). When I reach my desktop, the Safari icon in the Dock bounces and the spotlight lights up as expected, but Safari does not open a browser window -- I have to click the Safari icon or click File > New Window to see a window.
I've used Open at Login with Firefox and Mail and have never experienced this issue; the application window always opens. I've also tried disabling Safari's extensions and resetting Safari's settings (Safari > Reset Safari) with no luck.
I know I can probably trick Safari by adding a shortcut to my homepage to the Dock and have that open at login, but I would like to resolve this if I can. Any ideas?I found this discussion about three or four months ago. I was having the same problem with Safari not opening, along with my other login items.
The tip posted by Linc on Oct 3, 2011 9:22 AM, resolved the issue.
Thanks Linc!
HOWEVER... Today, all of the sudden... Out of out of the blue... I have the same problem, again!?
I tried removing, then re-adding, the URL file from the log in items, automatic open list.
It did not work?
Does anybody have any ideas/solutions regarding this issue? This is becoming VERY aggravating! -
I got my safari to open at login , but it won't. On the icon itself it has the "mark" open at login....I restarted the computer, but still won't open automatically when I get in to my account. Thanks in advance for the help/
Hi Lorraine,
When you 'Open at login' I think Safari always opens the application without a window open.
To get around this, go to your homepage and using the blue globe/icon to the left of the website address, drag the address onto your Desktop to create a shortcut.
Once you have a shortcut to your homepage, drag that into the 'Login Items' under your account preferences (or add it to your Dock on the right-hand side and choose 'Open at login' for the shortcut.
Hope that helps. -
Memory Used at 4.22GB with just Safari open... Help!
Hi there,
I have a 2013 MacBook Pro Retina, 16GB RAM. I have been having difficulties recently determining why I keep running out of memory - then I checked my Activity Monitor and it appears 4 or so gigabytes of my memory is being used with only Safari open! Is there anything I can do to find the source of this and stop it?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated! Thanks! As OGELTHORPE stated you do not have a RAM issue. If you are experiencing problems I would look in to whatever app has installed all those kernel extensions. Those kernel extensions are made for older OS X systems and probably aren't compatible with Mavericks.

Page won't open automatically upon startup.
I used to be able to start up the computer and Safari would come up with my designated home page open. Now Safari comes up but I have to go to file - new window to see my homepage otherwise I have a blank screen with no page open. How can I have it automatically open the homepage? In preferences I have "Safari opens with - a new window" and "new windows open with - homepage". Could it have something to do with settings in Accounts? Although if that was the case then Safari wouldn't be open at all if it wasn't set right I assume.
Yes, I do have New Windows set to Open with the Home page.
I mis-stated the issue a bit yesterday.
What actually appears to be happening is that Safari does open, but the window is hidden.
I also checked in System Preferences, Accounts, User Login, and Safari is there, but the Hide checkbox is not checked.
So Leopard appears to be ignoring the unchecked Hide checkbox and hides it anyway.
Any ideas how I get to pay attention to my Unhide request?
