Safari opens websites not using HTML formatting- Why?

Can anyone help? This is what happens on many websites - such that I no longer use Safari : http://screencast.com/t/cmh3eNvkva
Safari gives me two problems:
1. Not formatting sites correctly making them unusable
2. Telling me that Site Certificates are untrusted (when they should be trusted - and are the correct sites)
I have tried everything I can think of - Clearing cashe - uninstalling and re-instaling Safari - upgrading Safari. Everything workd fine in Firefox - thank heaven.
But honestly, what's the point of a Browser - and a Mac one at that, which won't function properly?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Why is my iPad opening website links using the Google App not Safari?

Why is my iPad opening website links using the Google App not Safari? Everything was fine until two days ago when it started opening them with Google App. I tried uninstalling Google but nothing has changed. It would not bother me at all but it takes Google a lifetime to open them where as Safari used to do it in a matter of seconds. I own an iPad Air, iOS 7.1.2.

How is it opening a website with the Google App if you uninstalled it?
Are you sure its the Google App, and not simply Safari opening in a Google search?
    What exactly is happening?
Basically there is no way to change the default browser for opening links.
However, some apps like The Gmail App will open links within themselves or Chrome if it is installed and the option is enabled in the Gmail App settings.

  • How can I open websites that use adobe flash ?

How can I open websites that use adobe flash ?

The website should open, but the Adobe Flash will not work as there's no Flash plug-in for mobile Safari.
After some failed attempts by Adobe to work out Flash for iPad, Apple decided to forgo it, and Steve Jobs published a famous letter on the reasons why Apple would not be supporting Flash on iPad.
The fall, Adobe announced that they were abandoning Flash on all mobile platforms, including Android, and they have deprecated the use of Flash as a plug-in on Desktop platforms. Flash will be moving to become a platform for development of cross-platform desktop applications and HTML5 will replace it for web and mobile purposes.
Web sites that still use Flash will slowly move away from the technology in the next few months. Most web sites that expected traffic from mobile device users have already moved away from using Flash.

  • Mac Safari open website in mobile version sometimes, such as GoogleTranslate. How to solve it

Sometimes Mac Safari open website in mobile version, such as GoogleTranslate. How to solve it?
I use iPhone and iPad as well, but I never open google translate page using safari both on iPhone and iPad. Just use the GoogleTranslate App sometimes.
Why does my Mac Safari open google translate page in mobile version for no reason?

If you use iCloud to synchronize Safari with a mobile device, you may be opening a bookmark to the mobile version of the site. Another possibility is that you're getting a Handoff activity from the device.
Remove everything from the URL except the domain name and try again. For instance, if the URL is something like this:
    http://www.example.com/mobile
    or
    http://mobile.example.com
    change it to this:
    http://www.example.com

  • Outlook 2010 - Always reply using HTML Format Option???

    Hey Guys,
Have had a good look through the outlook 2010 options but can't find anywhere the option you had in previous outlook versions to set always reply using HTML format email as your default reply type.
You can open the email and go to the "Format Text" tab and Select "HTML" but I was looking for a permenant way of setting HTML.
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Thomas

A couple of things spring to mind.
If you click the Reply button then delete the TO address and type a different one that's not really a reply. You are effectively Forwarding the message (to another person) and changing its format to suit that other person. Perhaps you
could investigate adding a custom button that does these two actions with one click.
Your bug system started the email in Plain Text, probably because it isn't configured for or can't handle HTML mail. Perhaps you could investigate if it can be configured to use HTML format or changed for a system that can.
You don't have to copy and paste your HTML signature. After you change to HTML format, just click Insert | Signature again and any Plain Text signature should be replaced by an HTML one. (Outlook 2007 and 2010 certainly do this as they know where the signature
is. I seem to remember that 2003 and before add an HTML signature to the message so you have to delete any existing Plain Text one and/or move the HTML signature to the right place in the message.) This is assuming you have Outlook add a signature to all messages
as they are created. If you don't then there is no signature to change on the message. You just add the signature after changing format.
I fully accept that there are valid reasons for wanting to force Outlook to use HTML format
in certain circumstances but it will not be the right thing to do 100% of the time and if you do so you risk the message you send being unreadable at the other end. For this reason Outlook makes the change of format a manual task. It could, in future,
make it easier or help you decide when it is appropriate. We will have to wait and see what transpires in Office '15' which should be going to public beta in the next couple of months.

  • Create a Multiple-Line JButton Without Using HTML format

I used html format for multiple-line JButton and it took a long time to load that button up (about 5 seconds more). Does anyone know how to create a multiple-line JButton without using html?
Any suggestion or sample code will be appreciated.
    javamesser

    Hello,
You could try using the following:
-give your button some layout (e.g.: BoxLayout.Y_AXIS, or BorderLayout).
-create the wrapped text in separate JLabels (one line in each label)
-add your labels to the button
    Advantage:
this solution does not affect the laf classes
    Disadvantage:
focus rectangle is not calculated accurately

  • The timekeeping system we use does not like HTML 5 so what is the latest version of Firefox that does not use HTML 5?

We have been told by our timekeeping system provider that the latest versions of FireFox, Chrome and IE are not compatible with their websites at this time. I was told that it was because of the use of HTML 5 by the more recent versions of these web browsers. I need to download the most recent version of FireFox that does not use HTML 5. Can anyone tell me which version this would be?

It isn't "Timesheet Next Generation", is it? We had a thread on that here: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/961306 Websites using php and mysql stopped sorting drop down lists properly starting last week. Did something change?]
Unfortunately, HTML5 is a large specification with a lot of parts that has been implemented in pieces over the course of several years. It would be really helpful if your vendor could indicate what EXACTLY is not compatible and then it could be researched. Otherwise, you'd have to use trial and error. Either way, you would end up with an older browser that isn't safe to run on the internet. It could be time to consider other vendors...

  • Losing the bookmarks in Safari since I am using Mountain Lion, why?

Losing bookmarks in Safari since I am using Mountain Lion, why?

I too am having this problem.  I have Bookmarks sync enabled for iCloud.  Do you have that enabled as well?
I have been restoring my bookmarks from time machine backups and have exported them out.  I am wondering if I import in the bookmarks into the new file that keeps getting created if that will make this work.  My original bookmarks file is about 1.9 MB.

  • PRE 9 - Why can I not use flv formats in it?

There seems to be a fix or plug-in for every other version of PRE.  Why can't these fixes be used for PRE 9 - surely Adobe knows people want to use this format for editing - they let you load up to this format so why not include an editing function...?

A rhetorical question, right? Otherwise, you won't get an answer from any of us. We're just fellow users.
I'd recommend you contact Adobe and let them know how you feel. There's even a feature request area.
Click the Contact button at the top of this web page.

  • TS3899 I am trying to open a work report using html format on my ipad and it says it is blocked. How do I unblock it?

    Hello.
I am trying to open a report from work that is in html format and I keep getting an error message saying that html is blocked?? I am thinking I need to adjust some sort of setting, but I am stuck. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

Maybe it is not html document. It may have html elements in there.
You say reports, maybe it's in excel or some other formats.
If it's excel, you have to have some apps that can read the format.
Apple Pages app can open excel document for example.

  • Can not send HTML formatted email since Mavericks?

    Hi..
I was using Thunderbird happily in Mountain Lion and all was well. But as soon as I upgraded to Mountain Lion I can no longer send any HTML formatted emails at all. Everything I paste into Thunderbird get instantly converted to 'plain text'. Apart from manually editing basics like font colour, italics, bold I can't do much else.
'Compose messages in HTML' is checked across all accounts, and 'Delivery Format' is set to 'Rich Text HTML'.
Yet thunderbird refuses to render any pasted HTML formatted material.
If I can not find a solution to this I will have to find an alternate mail client as rich formatting is critical for me.

I just wiped Thunderbird completely from my system (Mavericks) and reinstalled from scratch. Yet still it will not render any HTML pasted into an email copied from Safari.
I did however manage to paste HTML from Firefox and then Chrome into Thunderbird and they both rendered perfectly.
But.. things get a bit strange. I am able to copy HTML from any webpage opened in Safari and paste it into a Googlemail email also opened in Safari and it renders fine.
This is such a pain as Safari is my browser of choice and Thunderbird my email client of choice. But they just don''t want to work together in Mavericks.

  • How do I make Safari open PDF's using installed Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0

I would like to force Safari 3.1.2 to open all PDF links using Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0. How do I accomplish this? I have no problem making Safari use the Adobe Reader, however, I would like to use the full Adobe Program so I can save and download interactive PDF forms I have filled out on the web. Using the Adobe reader, you can only download the form itself - all supplied information using the form's interactive features are lost when the filled in form is downloaded.

    Hello, Carolyn:
Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, it is not working for me. I have both Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0 and Acrobat Reader v. 9.0.0 running on my computer. In either program's preferences both programs are availabe when I choose the program to display PDF files in the browser (Safari). There is no problem setting Safari's PDF handling to the default value.
When I choose Acrobat Reader to be the program to display PDF files in the browser, Safari will indeed use Acrobat Reader. However, when I choose Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0, Safari does not use the Adobe Acrobat program to display the PDF file, rather the file is displayed by the PDF handling features built in to Safari. I have found no way to make Safari use the full version of Adobe Acrobat. PDF files residing on my computer opens without difficulty using my copy of Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0. Do you have any other ideas that would help solve this problem?

  • Safari not loading html formatting correctly

I have updated the a website that has or tags and the text does not appear as bold in Safari 4.0.3. Shows properly in Firefox and Navigator.
Does anyone know why this might be?
    Thanks for any help.
    Rich

Sorry. My message is unclear because the sample html tags I entered in my message don't show when the page loads.
I used the tags for "bold" and"strong" in a website but the text is not bold when Safari loads the html. Works properly with Firefox and Navigator.
Anyone know why this is the case? Or, if you want to try to load it, the page is http://www.fmlp.org.

  • HT2954 I can no longer open websites from my emails.  Why not?

Suddenly I can't access websites from links embedded in my emails?  Please help!

Which OS X software version are you running?
Is this Mail.app or another mail client?
Do you get any diagnostics or other feedback when you select the embedded links in the emails (and it fails)?
Does your web browser correctly open the same URLs, when entered directly into that?
Has anything recently changed with your configuration?
