Safari (or quicktime) broke Labview!!!!!

I have a dell workstation running XP w/ SP2, and yesterday I installed the updates to Safari, Quicktime and iTunes - and now Labiew 8.0 hangs on startup - and I'm in the middle of a development project.
I've uninstalled all three Apple components.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Labview
I've installed service updates to Labview
Nothing. Same issue.
Does anyone know which common DLL's were tweaked by these Apple updates? I need to get this machine back on-line, and doing a nuke/pave really isn't an appealing option.
Thankfully, my Macbook Pro is still running boot camp, or this would have been a VERY expensive problem already.
Thanks,
Alan

I used a system recovery point and resolved the problem. Still not happy about the situation though.

  • Safari and quicktime no longer working

I apologize in advance that I have really no information to offer...but this is really causing me problems.
This afternoon I received my normal system update notice, which included updates for Safari and Quicktime (I have Mac OS X 10.4.11), without really thinking about it I clicked accept and went about my business...after the restart I went online and noticed that absolutely nothing involving quicktime/flash/windows media player files would not show up on screen...I just got the Q with a question mark.
I read through all the discussions for quicktime, deleted and re-installed quicktime, my flash plugins, etc....NOTHING has worked.
At this point I am not sure where to turn, I am only basic in my knowledge of plugins and how things work, but I follow everyones advice and it is really annoying me that I cannot view any kind of video online.
    thoughts? Am I missing something?

for "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> (MIME Settings...) -> Miscellaneous ->" I have "Quicktime HTML (GHTM) checked, while "SMIL 1.0" is unchecked
So is "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> Enable Flash ->" (unchecked)
OK. They both look normal enough.
What plug-ins do you have under the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder? (This one is under the main hard drive area, not you User area).
Run this command in the Terminal if you're not sure and then paste the output here:
    <pre>ls -l /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/</pre>
I have the following listed: a micromedia folder, and "RealPlayer Plugin.plugin
I'm guessing you meant 'Macromedia' instead of Micromedia? Try dragging both of those onto your Desktop for the time being. Unless you have some special reason, internet plug-ins generally go in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder so that all users of the computer can access them. Plug-Ins present in the User area also take precedence, so there's a chance those might be part of the problem.

  • Right click "open with" yields 2 copies of "Safari", "Firefox" & "Quicktime

    Hi
I have this problem when i right click on a .jpeg .jpg file.
it yields 2 copies of "Safari", "Firefox" & "Quicktime. I have verified and repaired permissions using disk utility but to no avail. can anyone offer any help?
reward pts awarded. thanks in advance.

There are two possiblities: first that you actually have two copies (eg if you have a clone of your stuff on another drive that is mounted when you startup), second that your LaunchServices cache files have gotten out of whack. If it is the first case there is nothing to be done about that, if it is the second you can try deleting the cache files:
    "/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore"
    "/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-0140501.csstore"
The first is the general LaunchServices cache, the second is user specific. After deleting them, restart the computer and new cache files will be created. You will also start seeing the "you are launching xxx for the first time" warning if you are in the habit of launching applications by double clicking their files. Eventually you will be on the second time and stop seeing the warning.

  • Safari and quicktime keep crashing

if i run quicktime it crashes as does safari. this is new to me. i've been a mac user for twenty years now and apple's have been known to me for reliability, but this is getting ridiculous. does this have anythig to do w/the new intel macs?
or does safari and quicktime need a apatch?
mind you this is new, when i got the g-5 i didn't have a problem but recently both safari and quicktime keeps crashing intermittantely and it's annoying to say the least.

Based on your inquiry, I'd assume you're using one of the new Intel Macs? If that is so, there is an issue right now where Quicktime and the new procs seem to not like each other much. If you're experiencing this, try forcing QuickTime to open using Rosetta.

  • How to print uspto patent images using Safari and Quicktime

    3/18/06
Do you want to know how to print US patent images using Safari? Read on.
When you access the "images" link of a specific patent on the www.uspto.gov/ website using Safari, the page you are viewing is only one small upper left tile of a huge patent image that is not sized to the screen. You can scroll and try to read the page but it's almost impossible. Try to print it out and you only print what's on the screen. Bummer.
    The fix:
Place the cursor on the opened image (it may appear blank), hold down the CONTROL key on you keyboard and click on the image. Two instructions come up. Click on the "Save Image to the Desktop" instruction and a DImg.tiff file will be created on your desktop. Click on the .tiff file and it should open in the Preview program, then simply print out the image. Voila!!!!
Click the yellow arrow in the left margin to access page 2 of the patent and repeat the previous instructions to create another .tiff file on your destop. Do every page and you'll have the patent available to print out one page at a time.
You can then rename the files and create a folder for that specific patent so you can access it later without signing onto uspto site.
It's odd that the ever compatible Apple does not provide seamless compatibility to view and print patent images on the US Patent and Trademark Office's website. Where would they be without protecting their own intellectal property? Let's hope the next version of Quicktime includes the appropriate ITU T.6 or CCITT Group 4 (G4) compression language.
Even the "throw it out the Windows" operating system is up to speed on this issue for America's hard working inventors.
    Keep on inventing.

  • Safari Internet Quicktime Plug-in Fails

I recently purchased a Mac Pro a couple of weeks ago, and I have ran into a few glitches with the Intel based system, however I have found a fix for most expect this one.
When I launched Safari and went to watch Apple Quicktime Trailers I received and image instead of the video that looked like a Q with question mark inside it. So I of course made sure the software was current... restarted... checked the Quicktime perference... checked the MIME settings... and I still received the error.
I logged onto discussions hoping to find an answer to the problem. I did find people with similar problems and tried those fixes, but nothing worked. I unclick the Flash media MIME setting under Miscellaneous file formats in the Quicktime perference... restarted... and now the Apple Quicktime Trailers just show white space where the video should start playing.
I have searched and search to no end and no results... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

  • Why Safari and QuickTime don't work with OS 10.3.9

I have an old Mac G4 running OS 10.3.9.  Safari 1.3.2 does not work properly. Moreover QuickTime does not work at all. I cannot watch the movies on my website. I know my site is OK because everything works with a newer computer. What can I do to improve the situation? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Click Software Update from your Apple menu. Make sure your software is up to date.
Moreover QuickTime does not work at all. I cannot watch the movies on my website. I know my site is OK because everything works with a newer computer.
The older Safari / QT versions may not be able to stream the video.

  • While using safari, all quicktime related stuff revealed as a question mark

just got my new macbook today. i know i have quicktime, but many webpages i have looked show parts of it with a quicktime icon and a question mark. i am sure there is something i need to reconfigure, but i cannot seem to find out where to start.

This setup should enable you to view/hear pretty much everything:
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Safari Help - Quicktime Question Mark

Hey guys, I need help here. My Safari doesn't seem to be working 100% here. I have the Quicktime logo with a 'question mark' on top of it on some on the website I visit. I wonder what I need to do to fix that. Thank you.

Same thing happened to me. Finally figured it out. Install the latest Flash 9.
    Now do this...
    1. Go into System Preferences and choose Quicktime.
    2. Click on Advanced tab.
    3. Uncheck Enable Flash box
    4. Then, click on MIME Settings
    5. Click on triangle next to Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous File Formats
    6. Uncheck all boxes under and including Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous File Formats (you may only need to uncheck the Flash Media box, but I did them all and haven't noticed any other problems)

  • Safari Flash/Quicktime problem

Running safari 2.04, Pro Quicktime and Flash 9 player plugin. All I get is a Q with Question mark on flash pages or movies. Tried removing flash and re-installed flash player with same conclusion. What's going on???

Yours is not a Flash issue.
    Yours is a .m4a versus .m4v problem.
    http://web.mac.com/thewarondemocracy/iWeb/TheWarOnDemocracy.com/The%20War%20On%2 0Democracy%21/A718A12D-5B4B-4398-AC88-540579F39DA0_files/05.21.2007%20As%20the%2 0Power%20Unravels.m4a
All the junk above is a link to your to your .m4a "enhanced" Podcast file and it's the file extension that is causing the trouble.
This "error" doesn't occur in all browsers but does show the QT ? icon when viewed in Safari.
You can "test" it by clicking on the link above which will open your Podcast in a new browser window where it plays.
Control click (right click) and copy the URL and then open it in QuickTime Player and you'll see the chapters tracks.
Best "fix" is to use the Finder to rename the file extension from .m4a to .m4v and use iWeb app to republish your page.
Apple must fix the other issues and they are working on it, I'm sure.

  • Why Safari and QuickTime don't work on OS 10.3.9?

I have an old Mac G4 running OS 10.3.9.  Safari 1.3.2 does not work properly. Moreover QuickTime does not work at all. I cannot watch the movies on my website. I know my site is OK because everything works with a newer computer. What can I do to improve the situation? The interesting thing is that in the past everything worked fine. The problems started when I reinstalled the system and upgraded it to 10.3.9. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I also apologize for having posted the same question on the Safari forum. But I think the present forum is more appropriate.

When you reinstalled and upgraded to 10.3.9 you perhaps have not applied relevant updates to Java and Flash.
10.3 Panther barely works on the internet anymore so i am not suprised you are having problems.
You can check which Java version you have at the link below
    http://www.javatester.org/version.html
and I'd try another internet browser like Camino. It is 'less old' than Safari is on 10.3, but basically 10.3 has been left behind as far as the internet goes.

  • Safari 3 & QuickTime issues

Still having problems getting Safari 3 to play nice with Quicktime. Most of the time I'm still getting the dreaded "?" for sites with QT. Sometimes reloading the site will work, about 1 out of 5 times. I've got a fresh copy of Safari and with new plist too. Downloaded and reinstalled QT 7.3. Have no Input Managers, in either folder, and no hacks at all. Everything I've tried makes it work for a few times and then back to the "?"
Any suggestions on what to try next?

Quicktime with a ? refers to Flash video.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Safari and QuickTime

So I was messing around with the Safari settings, and for some reason I clicked the "Play Videos in QuickTime Player" tab and now when I visit a website and want to watch a video, it starts up the QuickTime Player and plays it. I would like to be able to play the videos inside the browser's page like they used to but I cannot find the setting to un-click it. I might need to do something to the plug-in but I cannot find that setting either.
    Any help would be aprecciated,
    Chris
    edit:
I found the answer on a website.
    Question #2
How can I change the tab settings in Safari to open everything in a different tab instead of a new window?

How can I change the tab settings in Safari to open everything in a different tab instead of a new window?
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
In your Safari Preferences>General select "open links from Applications" in a new tab in the current window.
There are instances though where a new window opens regardless of the above setting. Using 3rd party SAFT ensures all items open in tabs in the current window. SAFT also offers many other useful features augmenting Safari.

  • Safari-Leopard: Quicktime Videos from Web Pages - GARBLED AUDIO

OK, so here is the problem:
    1. I am using (the new) Leopard, and all updates have been downloaded and installed successfully.
    2. In Safari, when an (embedded) video is present, the video appears perfect. However, the audio is garbled, and unintelligible. This is true for EVERY video I've tried to view on a webpage.
    3. I've saved a few videos as Quicktimes to my desktop, and opened directly with Quicktime. The same problem occurs, without fail - GARBLED AUDIO
    4. The most recent "test" was a Quicktime using the AAC, H.264 Codec.
    5. It seems as if I have installed all of the appropriate plug-ins, but can't be sure of this.
So it seems as if this might indeed be a Quicktime problem, and not a Safari problem, but thought I would post here in case others are having similar issues. I will make the same post in the Quicktime forum as well.
    What is the solution?!?!?!??
    rw

    Hi Robert
A number of Quicktime/Safari issues have surfaced with Leopard. Here's one example.
Have you looked at your Audio settings in your System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>Mime settings panel? In my panel, everything is selected except for Sound Designer II. Might be helpful to uncheck the Audio setting, select "done", then go back to the panel and select it again. Close the panel and try an audio in Safari again.
In your response here, please provide a link to your thread in the Quicktime forum. While Apple discourages posting the same issue in multiple forums, I think in this case the issue may be more Quicktime related than specific to Safari. So good to cover both bases.
